How to flash a stock firmware in my M8? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I've been trying for a while to find a post where I can find exactly what I want but I can't, so I don't know if it's possible. The thing is, I've an M8 with "Vodafone" in Spain (Android 4.4.4). Yesterday I unlocked it by code and know I want to flash an original stock firmware (GOD, it was a way easier with my old Xperia Z2) so that I can get Lollipop and erase all Vodafone's rubbish forever. However, I don't know if this is possible. I've seen that my cid must be HTC_00*** but I hace "VODAP304". Then I've seen I need firewater but it's no longer working (to s-off the device). So, I'm a bit lost and I don't even know if I can flash a stock firmware over a Vodafone firmware. Any ideas?

You can use sunshine to S-OFF
http://theroot.ninja/

Thanks for replying!! I heard that one could have some bugs, but if you recommend it I will use it. And then, can I flash any firmware?? No matter what?

Yep, pretty much. Before you pay for Sunshine it goes through some checks to make sure it's compatible so give it a go

I need to pay ???

Yep, $25

Woah, I think I'll leave it like that. I think that what I want to do is not worth 25 dollars

It really is
Without S-OFF, you can't remove all the carrier rubbish and get OTA updates directly from HTC

I knowwww X), that's why I wanted, but I just spent 15 dollars to unlock it. 25 more dollars is just too much XD. Is there any other option?

Hope so, at least he got something in return then. I have seen people pay that much just get their bootloader unlocked
Than it would have been a good option to s-off for 25 and do the SIM unlock yourself and get the freedom of s-off with it

If I had known I could do that in advance, I would have never paid for unlocking it. Oh God, I feel stupid now xD

Yeah. To be honest I'm not an expert, but I usually do this kind of things by myself. However, for the last let's say 2-3 years I've seen that's almost impossible unlocking a phone without paying. I made a little research and found it was more or less the same with the HTC One M8 (and I also found that there was another program to made it s-off but it wasn't working anymore), but clearly I didn't look everything

Well, I've finally decided to use Sunshine. However, when it tries to make a test to see if my phone is suitable for Sunshine this message appears: "Sunshine could not find the su binary, please root your device, then run Sunshine". Is it necessary to root the device in advance? I thought Sunshine itself did it

What do you think the message means, if it can't find the su binaries you need to root it in advance. If sunshine would root it for you it would have said so. Pretty clear to me

Hahaha lol I know, but I thought there could be some kind of option in advance or something X). Well, I'm going to investigate how to root the device then =)

People have been asking almost everyday for an unlock method in the Galaxy S4 forums for about 9 months now with no luck so unfortunately asking doesn't seem to get any better results
I don't know why but after I upgraded (OTA) to 4.4 my phone is now unlocked and S-Off. My contract was up a week earlier and I called regarding an unlock token but was told I needed to have a third party do it. Totally contrary to the Agreement the 4 majors had with the gov't in December over unlocking phones when contracts were up. So I'm just hanging out waiting for one of the resident masters to figure out a root.

If you're unlocked and s-off all you need to do is flash a recovery like TWRP and then flash a prerooted rom (most are pre rooted). It's the getting S-off part that many are still waiting to get figured out. You're free to flash away.

I'd be up for someone creating a general Q&A for this phone. It would have helped me quite a bit when I was just starting. I know enough to get one started but I'd feel better if I could get more experienced people contributing to it.

Ya, I think you can just flash a superuser.zip in recovery (you will need to flash a recovery first. Either TWRP or CWM...I prefer TWRP). It's been awhile, but I know it's not hard. There used to be a little tutorial in OP of the Rumrunner thread on how to gain root but I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

[Q] Radio and OpenDSP have "INVALID-VER-INFO" beside them. Is this normal? Need help
I just recently purchased the m8. I did lots of research learning everything I could before doing any modding. So today I decided to unlock my boot-loader so it was my first time getting into recovery. But when I get into recovery I see both radio and OpenDSP have "INVALID-VER-INFO" beside them. Its never been modified and I got it from t mobile and was the first to open the device. Not a second hand phone. Is this normal? I've been googling for hours and cant find any information. Its been sort of difficult getting any help in the htc M8 help threads honestly. If anyone can shed any information I would greatly appreciate it. I haven't noticed any thing wrong with my phone out of the box and everything about the functionality of the phone has been stellar.

I think something is off on that phone. I unlocked and s-offed mine and the only thing different was the os is blank but everything else was fine.
But if u have no actual problems with cell reception or audio then maybe u just need to update the firmware to latest after u s-off and that Will fix u up. More than likely.
Let me know I have done a lot on my phone allready. I even switched it to a dev edition just to get the 4.4.3 firmware and then flashed my backup back to my Rom of choice.
I'll help if I can. I notice there ain't many people helping on this forum there all on the international forum

I appreciate that. I just didn't want to s-off since I dont do any heavy modding. I was just gonna unlock the boot-loader, install custom recovery root and flash arhd. I don't think this is normal either for a brand new phone that hasn't been touched software wise. I might go exchange it at t mobile. This is my screen

I understand about the s-off but really it's the best thing to do because if something ever goes wrong there will be nothing stopping u from fixing it.
Also I was gonna suggest taking it back but they might trip on the unlocked bootloader and if u fastboot oem lock it Will say relocked. So they will know. But it's worth a try. T-Mobile doesn't seem like they know anything about technical stuff. so if you try to explain to them they might look at you like they don't know what your talking about.
I seen the picture if it is still locked take it back. And show them
Your firmware is allready the latest so that's a factory f-up.

More than likely. I got charged 50 bucks one time and I couldn't even fight it because they sent it in and my Bill went up I wondered why so I asked and they said because of modifications all they did was exchange it but I still had to pay. Try it or relock it and do the ruu for that firmware. And see if it will take off the tampered flag and fix the ver info

No apology needed. Thank you for helping me out. I was able to s-off and get everything back to stock. Boot loader locked not "relocked" , s-on, unrooted. But the "invalid version" message was still there. I just came back from the tmobile store and they ran some diagnostics and said there was a problem with the software. They exchanged it for me and I checked it before I left the store and this one is perfect. I even asked for them to run the same diagnostics and everything checked out fine. I'm gonna do even a little more research before modding this one. I'm a little nervous now ..lol....but again thank you!!! I really love the M8. I came from the galaxy note 3 from att and sadly att locks the boot-loader on it. I love the note 3 just not on AT&T. I'm trying to sell my AT&T note 3 to buy a tmo version.

Probably not but everybody just gets to unlocking and s-offing so fast they probably don't notice.
It's probably just the ones coming with that firmware out of the box.

I have S-Off now what

Hi all, I read this boards all the time but rarely post. I recently had my phone S-Offed by Heroes96 (thank you again heroes!) However I am reading conflicting information about how to unlock and root now that I have S-off. I can't use htc dev because when I give them my identifier token it tells me my model is not supported (naturally). I also don't believe I can flash Super SU to use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-lock-unlock-bootloader-htcdevs-t3092036
because my bootloader is still locked. Can anybody here let me know what my next step would be? Many thanks.

AiO Bootloader Unlocker Tool

I realize this phone is from last year, but i feel like I am doing someone somewhere some kind of good by creating this program to Unlock and Root an HTC 10 (pme).
I hope someone of higher authority sees this and is able to use their authoritativeness to validate this program's usefulness. Thank you all those who use this tool!

What do u mean by "s off" ? and also this is just bootloader unlocker, TWRP installer, and rooting tool.
Does your program use HTC dev to unlock bootloader or something else ?
S off for bootloader there is s on and s off like sunshine does s off but is a paid app but I'll assume if you do not know what that is that it'll be s on

I will push it to the phone, but i wont be paying for moonshine's penalty distribution fees, or sunshine's cost. I will incorp sunshine since there is no penalty for that, but i will not be paying for it.
On another note, if someone finds a way to unlock the bootloader without HTCdev, please let me know. I am currently editing my tool to incorp sunshine pushing, and a couple other things i messed up, but i should have the official link ready in a few minutes from now.

He can't incorporate sunshine and make it a free tool, the developers of sunshine will not allow that.
And i doubt if there will ever be another (payable) solution to s-off besides sunshine.
Sounds like Monopoly haha but why wouldn't he be able to rewrite to change some things make his own and distribute as long as some coding is changed it's his they can't prevent him from offering a free app...
"Unless of course it's copy written where he paid to have protect and Pat. And even then if it's changed it allowed cough look at China they do it all the time" just saying ....

You've included the SunShine APK in your zip, which we do not allow. We update the software frequently, and disable old builds. Please remove it from your linked archive. To those wondering: There is no free/cracked version of SunShine out there.
Also, moonshine never supported the HTC 10 - I'm not sure why you would reference that.

Thank you. Just to be clear, there was not a cracked/modified version of sunshine in his zip (no such apk exists), but bundling sunshine in packages like this causes us significant support issues as we frequently update sunshine.

Alternate service to send in HTC 10 since Sunshine is down.

Is there another service to send in my HTC 10 since the service by Sunshine doesn't exist?
I am unable to unlock the bootloader, the Sunshine app gives me a failure. I have no OEM bootloader option in the developer tools. I've made several attempts using the various forums so I can root the phone without success. I feel it's time to send it out to someone who can assist me.

Other option, would be an XTC2 Clip/Power Adapter/Java Card, if they even still work after the HTC 10 has been updated to Oreo(not sure on that part).

I have orderd the XTC2 Clip/Power Adapter/Java Card and cables. Is the procedure available to unlock and root the phone available using this method?

I'm guessing,
http://xtc2clip.org/
Ebay. Do you have the procedure?
I've found this https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/unlock-your-htc-10s-bootloader-0178418/ after I read this thread, did you try that?
I'm a noob in a similar situation, have a completely stock non-branded Nougat and want to root and maybe install Viper or Lineage, but been putting it off cause I had to find a way to back up all the apps. Now I have to figure out a way to root/s-off quick, before my warranty runs out next month :S
edit: http://theroot.ninja/about.html seems to be up??

If your htc 10 is still on Nougat and ISN'T a Verizon device, then I think you can use Sunshine to S-OFF, don't hold me too it, but I believe you can. :good:
just download the app and try it out, it won't take your $$ of anything if it doesn't work, can't hurt to try.
I believe it is not working for Oreo and Pie htc 10 variants, and Verizon is needed to do by mail I think unless they fixed it for Verizon N as well.
Don't remember. but the website still says they do mail in, but I don't think they still are.
Give it a try and report back.

Got this message:
Failure!
SunShine was unable to gain root access to your device. You may need to gain "TempRoot" or "PermRoot" through some other means. For HTC Devices, unlocking with HTCDev.com and rooting with a custom recovery may work.

You can 100% unlock the bootloader @ htcdev and flash custom ROMs, you don't need soff for that.
I wouldn't update from N firmware until you try a few things out.
Maybe unlocking bl and rooting then sunshine will work?

Ah, that's good, didn't know that.
I'm gonna wait a few more days for an answer from the devs of the last app on my phone that can't back up via adb and its own backup process is broken. After that I'm gonna do what you said.
Is the guide I linked above ok or is there maybe an XDA guide to doing that? I looked at the Guides subforum here but there's too much stuff and I've never rooted a phone b4 so I'm not sure which thread I'm supposed to be looking at :silly:

Yea since you have the US locked version, or I think that's what you meant by unbranded. What's your firmware (in download mode) x.xx.617.xx or x.xx.401.xx
Here is the link for bootloader unlock: https://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/

No, I've got the EU version (or I suppose I do, I bought it in the EU). I meant that I got it from a retailer, not a cell network company like Verizon, since I see those need some special treatment. Software number is 2.41.401.41
