Just purchased SM-N910P on eBay. Can I verify the hours used? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just purchased a SM-N910P Note 4 from a reputable seller on eBay stating that it is new. They purchased it and decided on a Note 5 instead. The box was not sealed but all contents and packaging were there and looked new. The phone looks MINT but didn't have a screen protector on it, so I know they must have booted it up at least once. When I turned it on the first time it said "setting up the phone this may take a couple minutes". Then about 30 seconds later it booted to the Galaxy Setup Wizard to setup the phone.
Is there anyway to verify how many hours/minutes, if any, it has been used? Like something that keeps track of the phones uptime?
Anything else I should look for?
Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

After you go to settings> activate this device it tells you how much data etc... You have used in the billing cycle. You can use this feature as often as you like to check your plan. It also serves to speed up data like updating the PRL. After it finishes tap the menu dots in the top right corner. You are now in the IOTHIDDENMENU. From here tap PST then RTN. This screen shows information such as call time and if the phone has been refurbished or not.

Who just bought one?
I bet they sold a crap ton. I picked up a silver model.
I'm hoping that it's actually new, and without defects.
Supposedly it takes up to 3 Weeks to ship...

I just bought a Nexus yesterday form somewhere else for $100 more. But is a legit seller, super fast shipping, and I'm impatient so that 3 week wait would almost be worth $100.
Either way, if this deal works out good for you. I was just paranoid and actually paid a bit more to buy from a reputable seller and have peace of mind.

Yeah it's gonna take a hell lot of time for them to get it shipped to you. And don't worry, the phone will be new

I saw numerous recent reports from new egg stating that their "new phone" came with the seals broken, Chinese business cards loaded inside, finger prints, and reports of device tampering (setup program didn't launch, went straight to home screen)
Often on sites such as this, they sell at low prices because they acquire a large stock of cheap devices from an over seas distributor, and having some of the phones having been tampered with would lower the price for them significantly.
Let's hope the sale is legit, and maybe just an overstock of silver/white phones......

First post! Got mine from dailysteals as well when they had their promo a few weeks back (got mine mid Jan). Wait was a little over two weeks. And yes it was brand new and I've had no issues whatsoever.

I also ordered one yesterday from daily steals. Hoping for the best. I can't wait till it comes in!
I've had my Galaxy Nexus for quite a while. Ordered from Daily Steals as well. No problems to report here. Shipping took longer than I would have liked though.
Oh and if it makes a difference to anyone the one I got from them was a yakju.

Is anyone else having issues with the phone they received from this deal?
My phone is stuck in a boot loop, and it's still unrooted and at stock ROM.
Samsung won't provide me support because it's international.

Boot into the bootloader by holding down both volume up and down and power.
Scroll to recovery using the volume keys and select recovery.
When you see the android laying on his back press volume up and power. You might have to do it a few times. Eventually, it will show a menu.
Then clear user data and reboot.
Let me know if that works. You will lose your data but your phone will be functional again.
If that doesn't work we can try another method.

I'm going to try to do this tonight most likely when I get home.
I'm hoping there is a way to access the internal memory without booting the device. Someone recommended adp connecting via the computer, and somehow accessing the internal flash memory.
I'm going to copy/paste a well written explanation that details what I've done, researched, ect. In case anyone else finds this thread and hopefully they'll find it useful..
I'm experiencing a similar issue with my international version unlocked gsm galaxy nexus. My device is still on the stock ROM, not rooted, and no modifications. It had been updated to the latest version of Android available for this device via an ota update. My carrier is Tmobile USA.
I got it a few weeks ago from daily steals.com unsubsidized, and had been experiencing intermittent and random restarts of the device. This started about four days after getting the device, and would happen 3-4 times a week, sometimes multiple times per hour.
I researched online and found that random restarts were a common issue with galaxy nexus devices, especially gsm versions, and that at the time there were no known solutions to fix this issue besides factory resetting. Some users claimed after a hard reset, the device continued to randomly reboot. Others noticed the reboot issue stop upon the reset, but only to manifest itself again over time.
After about a week or two of this intermittent reboot issue, the phone seemed to have stopped restarting, or at least if it was, I wasn't noticing it (i.e. It was in my pocket, or I was sleeping).
Now, after it performing perfectly (as far as I know) for about a week, I thought it might have been a fluke, and that uninstalling some programs and updating others solved the issue, and it was just a software conflict.
Unfortunately for me, I was wrong. This afternoon after unplugging my phone from the wall and turning it on, it begun to boot loop. The previous night, I had let the device's battery completely drain to the point where the phone shut off.
Now it's not even staying on for more than 10 seconds at a time before restarting. If I can manage to click into an app before it restarts, it loads up fine, then it freezes, and I hear a Pop sound from the device and it restarts.
I haven't tried hard resetting the device yet, as I'm hoping there's a way to recover some of my data on the device first.
I did however somehow manage to boot it into safe mode once accidentally, which didn't do much as it still rebooted within ten seconds.
Some possible explanations that I've read across the internet include
1) general Android OS error
2) issue with wifi being turned on
3) possible issue with corrupted Sim card?
I've managed to turn off wifi in the few seconds the device was last on, but it still rebooted.
I removed my Sim card entirely and tried to boot as well, to no avail.
I've contacted Samsung USA, but they don't provide support for my device because it's the international version. They gave me a phone number for the UK Samsung support office, but I cannot dial it, as I believe it might be restricted on my phone plan, and I need to get a calling card.
I sent daily steals an email regarding this issue, but I'm not really expecting much from them.
Have many other people experienced the boot loop issue? I've seen a few incidents so far. Is it software? Hardware related?
Evidently people with custom roms are experiencing this issue as well, meaning it's a hardware issue, a software issue that certain roms share the same code, or a driver issue.
What's sad it's that my HD2 with Android hacked onto it still works fine, even after going through the washing machine full cycle while on with a fully charged battery...
Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Ordered a GN from dailysteals on the 21st. It arrived at my door 8 days later. No issues with the brand new phone.
Ordered mine with the most recent sale. Received in about a week with the factory seal almost broken, but it was hanging on by just a little bit. The unit is brand new and no problems. Only thing was the adapter that dailysteals included for the charger did not fit the Samsung Euro wall charger. Luckily had another one.
Battery life has been fantastic so far. I took it out of the package turned it on and the battery lasted over 12 hours without a charge!
It is not a jakju unfortunately and I don't want to mess around with it. The Google Play store website shows it as a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Nexus too.
I bought my nexus when they had it on March 1st and I have no complaints. The phone came brand new in the box with the factory seal and has worked just fine since the day I got it. Even though I paid a little more then it is in I'm very happy with the purchase.

[Q] Brand New Galaxy Nexus not loading/Logo boot-loop

Hey guys,, just got my new Galaxy Nexus, brand new one
Charged it to full as it said in the manual and turned in on, it got into the first 'setup' window and decided to crash, ever since it's boot-looping on the Google logo like in this video and won't do anything else.
I tried factory reset from recovery, I tried to remove battery and try again, I tried with and without SIM, same thing...
now my question is - did i get a faulty phone and i should replace it or it's something I can fix myself? Thank you
As long as there's no icon of a lock under the google logo in the first screen you see while booting, it's a production problem.
all options given to you by people around here about how to unlock it and try to fix it yourself are redicioulus in your case. When you have the phone for less than 7 or 14 days (depending on the country you life in, best way to check is by going over the shop receipt it should be mentioned all the way down. If you bought it online you got a mail) you can walk to the store and demand a new one. If they tell you that they send it to the factory point them on the law and the promises on their receipt... you have the right to give them the package back and pick a new one from the shelf with the same price.
But remember to take everything you bought (cables, earplugs, guide, the cardboard inside the box and the box itself) with you! If you don't they will tell you that you did not bring anything and have no right to pick a new one.
Just get a fresh one it's the best way for you since this problem emerged within the first few hours (and literally on it's first boot). It's most likely a production error. Waiting for a fix at the factory will cost you weeks... and many people report scratches on their screen and broken covers since the phones are not always treated nicely during their travel and fix.
Please post future news on your case here... it's a great help for people with the same problem.

Same problem but after months
Hi there,
I just had the exact same problem, with a difference : my phone had been working just fine for months. Now, impossible to get it to boot. It cycles the "Google" screen, and that's it. I found that when I hold the volume button down as I start the phone it shows "odin mode", but I do not know what it is for and it does not seem to download anything.
Any ideas?
When it happens right after you purchased the phone, it's better to bring it back to where you bought it from.
On the other hand, try this. Hope this helps.

Touchscreen not working after 4.4.3 update

I was excited to see that one of my Nexus 7 tablets was getting the 4.4.3 update today. I started the update and let it go. When I came back I was at the lock screen. I only have the simple swipe to unlock. I couldn't unlock it at all. Held in the power button for several seconds until it shut off. Thought maybe something didn't load right. When I booted it back up, same thing. No touch screen.
Here is a little background. This is a Nexus 7 v2. Unlocked it and rooted it using the Nexus Root Toolkit version 1.8.2. During the process I did install the recommended recovery option. Everything worked great until the update today. Seems like I can't do anything. I can't use this toolkit to restore from the backup I made because I can't get into the tablet to turn on USB debugging or whatever it is asking me to do. I tried booting into recovery by holding the volume down and power button. The result was a picture of the android with a red triangle and an exclamation point. Not sure what else to do so I am posting this for all of you guys with more experience than me. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Once you are back at the android lying on its back, hold down power and tap the volume up key, this will get you a recovery menu, from there you can try to wipe cache and dalvik, and if need be, factory reset.
Touch screen is still dead.
Thanks for the quick update. I did all of the above and was able to reset the tablet. Not I am at the Welcome screen and tapping the screen does nothing I find it hard to believe that the touchscreen died during the update. I guess I will need to look on EBay for some parts. Can anyone suggest what parts to look for? Touch screen digitizer assembly is listing for around $65.

I might suggest you open it up now (you're going to have to anyways to replace it), and make sure the cable is securely inserted.

Tried the cables...
I found a tear down video on YouTube and was able to disconnect and then reconnect the long cable that goes across the battery connecting the 2 circuit boards. I believe this cable is connected to the digitizer. I was hoping that maybe this would fix my problem. No such luck.
Here is my question. This tablet was purchased on EBay and was sold as a refurbushed tablet with a 90 day warranty from Asus. I purchased it about a month ago so I should be in the warranty period. Since I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, should I even try to send it to Asus for repair or should I just spend the $65 and buy the replacement parts on EBay? Instead of just buying the digitizer, I was thinking I would get the combo digitizer and lcd screen since it would save me having to use a heat gun to unglue the screen from the digitizer.
What do you think would be my best bet?
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions.

You can always unroot and relock the bootloader (you can use this to get it back to factory), if it's under warranty I'd go that route.
USB debugging...
Wouldn't this require me to have USB debugging enabled on the tablet? Since I went into recovery and restored it back to factory defaults, I can't get past the "Welcome" screen because I can't touch the screen. I am going to try and chat with the Asus support team and see if I can get an RMA. I'd rather go that route than take the whole thing apart myself. I like messing with computers but I don't like messing with phones and tablets. They are just too small and fragile for my unskilled hands. Thanks for your help. I will post an update if I am able to send the tablet out for repair.

It uses fastboot, I don't think it needs it (in spite of what the OP says). And if I'm wrong, the worst that will happen is it won't work. You will need the fastboot drivers correctly installed in your windows or linux environment though.
worked
Thanks for the link. I ran the dead_nexus7.bat file since I couldn't turn on the USB debugging. It wiped out everything. I then ran the command to relock the bootloader. All set. Talked with Asus (web chat) and got an RMA number. They even sent me a FedEx label to use. Now I am more comfortable sending this unit back since it has been restored to stock and the bootloader is locked again. Thank you for all of your help.

Update to my issue...
I contacted Asus using their web chat. Told the CSR about my issue and confirmed my Nexus 7 serial number. They emailed me paperwork to take to my local FedEx shipping location. It happened to be our local Office Max store. They scanned in the bar-code and processed it. I got a confirmation email with the tracking number. This was around June 6th. They received it in Texas 4-5 days later (because of the weekend). I checked the status almost every day. About 10 days after they received it I saw a status update. They included a FedEx tracking number but every time I entered it into the FedEx website, it showed up as invalid. I gave it a couple of days and then called FedEx. They were able to track the package and it was delivered to my house in late June. All in all it took about 3 weeks but they did repair it. I thought they would have just sent me a refurbished tablet. They actually fixed my tablet because it still had my screen protector on it. Just wanted to update you with the good news. My son was so excited to finally get his tablet back. I wasn't expecting it to take so long but I guess I can't complain. It didn't cost me anything out of pocket even to ship it to them. Thank you for your help with getting everything back to stock and the boot-loader locked.
Tablet was originally purchased as a refurbished tablet from a seller on EBay. It was supposed to have a 90-day warranty from Asus. Glad they held up their end. It all worked out in the end.

Good to hear, thanks for the update.

my HTC 10 died!

so, I go on vacation and put my phone in airplane mode since I'm out of the states. I'm backpacking in Aruba and place my phone in my backpack (contents: clothes, towel, water bottle, food) I took pictures from spot to spot. well I go to take my phone out and it is burning up. I mean super hot. Phone would not wake up/turn on. I was bummed.
Had the phone activated and was using it for a total of 5 days, then placed it in airplane mode when I left the states on the 4th. The 5th is when this saddening event took place. I finally got back into the states and got home on the 13th. I pulled my sim and activated my good ol m8. I noticed the backside of my sim card had brown spots on it. Looked like it was burnt or rust. It wiped off leaving faint spots. Sim card is working in the m8.
Has anyone had any issues and had to have their phone repaired? Apparently HTC says this is covered under warranty...and that if there is any other damage than what I described they will use the uhoh warranty.
I have tried every button combo, plugged in and everything day after day hoping it would turn back on. I do not even get a notification light when plugged in. The PC also doesn't recognize the device.
tldr: phone got super hot and wouldn't cut on. I have to send in for repair

If it's been under 30 days, I'd return it as faulty and get another new one. Take advantage of the option to return it!

I've tried everything. Every possible button combo for at least 10 seconds.
It definitely hasn't been 30 days, and I mentioned to return it, and they kept saying that since it was activated and in use, that they will issue a repair ticket. So that was my only option they gave me. I did call back and get another CSR, but they both asked has it been used and or activated. I didn't want to lie lol

Well, you're certainly able to return it within 30 days even if it's been used because I'm going on my 3rd unit trying to get one without the dreaded yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. It can all be done from the ordering email you receive... that is if you ordered it direct from HTC. I just request a refund and re-order a new one, no questions asked!
If the battery is dead and nothing happens when you plug it in with original power and cable then there is nothing to be done.

If it's been under 30 days, I'd return it as faulty and get another new one. Take advantage of the option to return it!

They don't do that. I tried when I was having issues with my device. Their answer was if I wanted a brand new device, I'd have to return and repurchase. ? (And lose out on my coupon and potentially lose my 12 mos financing with PayPal.)

Yeah, that's what I meant. :good: Return and repurchase.
so I finally heard back from HTC on the 22nd. They said my phone was exposed to liquid....ok I thought maybe the water bottle may have leaked...but here was no sign of it that day. Anyways, I opted to use my UH-OH protection to get a new/replacement device. They processed that and told me I would be contacted in 24 hours. That was not true
Have called/online chatted each day trying to get a status of my phone. Finally got someone today who told me the exact thing. "the uh oh department is waiting on a replacement device for you. You will be contacted by the escalation team within 24 hours"
So yea I'm a little frustrated with HTC at the moment. Never had any problems with them until now.

I just did a separate chat and acted as someone who was very interested in purchasing the HTC 10. Asked all easy questions and then asked for shipping. They said if I was to purchase today, I'd revive the phone next business day.
I'm on the edge about calling back and complaining some more about them able to send out phones if they are purchased, but yet tell me hey are waiting on a device.
sorry, rant over lol

Side note UhOh protection will only ship to your credit card billing address for advanced replacement.
A person can ship theirs in and have a replacement sent to whatever address you want but it requires them receiving the old unit before shipping the new unit.

Well, your replacement phone will probably be coming from a different stock of phones. Even it happens to be a new device rather than a refurb, you won't be getting the retail box or anything. It'll just be the replacement phone by itself.

HTC has had my phone since the 14th or 16th. I just want an HTC 10 back. Having it for the few days has spoiled me. Although this m8 is still a beast, I'm just wanting the best of the best.

I used Uh-Oh protection about 11 days after receiving my phone (in May) and they sent me a brand new unit in the box with full accessories just FYI.

You should have a service number and a login to track process. You'll be able to see if they've received your handset and where they're at in the process. If it's Uh-Oh protection covered they are required to ship you a new handset within 2 days of receipt of your old handset.

Oh, that's good to hear! I had spoken to HTC about a replacement device, and that's what they told me... but I'm assuming there's a difference between a standard replacement and using the Uh-Oh protection?

I have a sprint logo on my background.

I have a sprint logo on my background that stays all the time. How can I delete it?

Welcome to XDA-Developers @bijayrpoudel!
Where/who did you get the phone (SPRINT/Samsung/retail outlet/etc...)?
Was the phone new when you bought it?
Was the logo present from day one?
What is the exact model number?
Can you grab a screenshot of the "About Phone" page?
Have you tried running the phone in safe mode & /or tried a factory reset (the latter preferably without restoring a backup, if applicable) ?
The more information you present, the better & sooner you may get more responses/solution.

I almost want to say screen burn in or some sort of screen damage of some kind... Not 100% sure.
When and where did you get this phone?
If you got it recently then I suggest getting a warranty replacement. If warranty replacement isn't an option then try a factory data reset and see if that helps.

Where/who did you get the phone (SPRINT/Samsung/retail outlet/etc...)?
=> Retail Outlet. The owner said the phone was paid off Sprint and it's unlocked for any carrier. It is unlocked, I am using Att Sim card. Everything works great except that bloatware logo from Sprint.
Was the phone new when you bought it?
==> It was open-box.
Was the logo present from day one?
=> Yes.
What is the exact model number?
=> SM-N975U
Can you grab a screenshot of the "About Phone" page?
=>Yes, I will update the MEGA folder with the picture. LINK : mega.nz/folder/HNIDlCYJ#X7sPDhCYEb-au-6ovDdMRA

=> Yes, the logo appears on safe mode. I did factory reset as well. Still hasn't solved the issue
I tried deleting the Sprint bloatware apks using adb tools.
Thank You for your response.

Whoever told you that this was an "open box" phone was making generous usage of the term.
As someone else mentioned, it sounds like it has screen burn-in, which suggests this was a demo/floor model, likely from day one of release, hence the screen burn-in.
I'd take it back to wherever you bought it from for a refund, if possible.
Just for the heck of it, there are apps that make claims to lessen the appearance of screen burn,(Screen Burn Fixer, just to name one) it's free & you have literally nothing to lose at this point.
Good luck.
I looked at the pictures you provided and that is definitely screen burn in.

yeah the fact it doesn't show on the screen grab and only photos of the phone I would have to agree it is most likely screen burn in. as said above it's likely been a demo phone in a shop sitting with a sprint wallpaper on the screen for months leading it to burn the logo into the screen. I would look at returning it as if it has been a demo unit causing the screen burn in the fact it has also likely spent months plugged into the mains will have likely also degraded the battery considerably.
looking at the fact it likely is really bad burn in and likely an ex demo phone I would question the ethics of the store you purchased from as they likely sold you it knowing the phone was in poor condition, if nothing else I hope you got a really large discount on the phone as it has likely had more use than most of the phones out the wild, as the demo units are permanently plugged in and have the screens on for 8+ hours solid a day (assuming the store turns them off when closed) so a demo unit after a few months is probably in worse condition than a year old or more phone.
