I know the answer isn't out there as I've been searching for years! I've had my i317m from Telus converted to work on WIND for 3 years now using the AWS mod (dummy zip) but this never worked well when I was on the highway as it doesn't switch roaming towers well...it gives me no connection at times or hangs on 1 bar on home network when a true WIND phone would go between roaming and home networks when signal was obviously un-usable anymore.
Before anyone says, yes I was using a WIND ROM(no modem), but I could never get a T-mobile or WIND modem to be recognized, and believe me I tried them all. The baseband always says "unknown" and no connection. I believe it has something to do with different partition sizing?
So I would like a REAL WIND modem from a T889V to work together with a WIND ROM and that should solve my roaming issues. (any other ideas?)
I'm on Jellybean 4.3 (T889VVLUCMK4) still as I couldn't find newer rooted WIND roms with no modems(only ones I can use) for later versions.
Modem I ended up using is from Rogers i317M (i317MVLUCMK5) with AWS mod and I have all the required bands enabled for proper roaming (roaming for WIND in Canada is on Rogers, Bell, Telus)
I call on the experts on this site to chime in please, and there will be a few coffees/beers in it for ya!

I have Rogers Xperia ION on Canadian Network.
Before I had flashed Generic International rom (6.1.E.2.29), the stock Rogers Rom with ICS would pick up LTE.
But now, the phone only picks up 3G Signals.
I love the international rom which seems to be bit more responsive- but no LTE is big downfall.
Does anyone have any similar problem? And yes I have correct APN.

double check - and double check apn again ... Really sure .29 fw had LTE bb. Or reflash with full wipes again - Reboot couple times might re-cycle the rom to settle in.
Problem solved.
Under mobile network setting- network mode was set to 'WCDMA (Preferred)/ GSM'
Change this to LTE (Preferred)/ WCDMA/GSM
Thanks for your post!
Good to know !!! Glad you had it resolve.
I unlocked my GS3 through the software menu in jellybean. Then I put in a working Wind mobile sim, it says "Wind Away" and I am getting a "R" icon beside the signal. Is there anyway to make the S3 work properly?

did you have a working signal before this? is this stock/unrooted or rooted stock/rooted custom tw?
Yes I did, it works perfectly with a Rogers sim. It is stock. I called Wind Mobile and they said it does not support the AWS band. I want to try flashing a T-Mobile modem to try and see if I can activate the 1700 band, but it's only working on the i747 at the moment. The i747m's get bricked.
I am currently using sgh i317 flasked with 4.1.2 stock rom in china. here is the problem. even though i have 3G service in my sim card i cant access 3G service. i can just use 2G ( E symbol) in my mobile.. help me to fix this problem.. smartphone without 3G is hard to imagine ..
Samsung SGH i317 user from china...
1) Did you make a correct APN setting for your Chinese carrier?
2) Doesn't China use 1700/2100 band? If true you wood have to follow the steps to enable AWS like you are trying to join tmobile network, then input the correct APN settings.
Do i need a special APN for at&t?
I have enabled roaming and data roaming in the settings
but no data connection. Even when i manually connect to it!
Im running virgin rom 4.4.2 w/ t-mobile csc's
Baseband is M919UVUEMK2
I've also yet to see any roaming on my phone, and I've had my cell service get 0 signal sometimes in heavily concreted buildings and AT&T's signal should penetrate those fine but nope, nothing. Every time. Always get no signal and no roaming.
Are our phones able to even pick up the AT&T frequencies?
Good question.
I like to know how to connect to AT&T as well.

I have a SGS3 I747M from Canada Fido and now using in Pakistan after network unlock. It does not register on GSM 2G/3G network whenever the 2G signal strength drops approximately below -70 dbm. It can neither make nor receive a 2G call
Things tried so far
tried all available modem drivers from XDA Forums
tried on stock Jelly Bean 4.3
tried on stock KitKat 4.4.2 (currently on it)
tried changing to airplane mode and back
tried change network mode to 'GSM Only'
tried signal boosters from android market
But nothing works.Only where signal is strong around -50 to -60 dbm it is able to connect to the network.
have tried it on two different operators Mobilik and Warid but result is same.
What can be done to fix it??

I'm not so sure about this but perhaps the device doesn't have the right frequencies (being a Canadian variant).
That being said, You could try different baseband and modem. I'm not sure if will work but worth a shot.

I747m does support gsm 900/1800 which are supported in my region.
I have already tried all I747m modems available on xda forums but i guess these are all for canadian networks.
Can you suggest if i can use a modem for another s3 variant released for pakistan.
Would any custom rom/modem be able to fix this?
Problem is only when it detects weaker signal. Though other handsets connect comfortably in the same spot. If i move around a bit where signals improve, it connects and works fine
could there be a low signal threshold programmed in this device for power saving or something
Only flash things that are for your device model. Flashing s different devices modem is a great way to hard brick.
Sorry im not sure about a solution. Just wanted to at least warn you against flashing a different modem.
Have you contacted your carrier to see if they might have any useful info for you?
