[Q] 3G problem in sgh i317 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am currently using sgh i317 flasked with 4.1.2 stock rom in china. here is the problem. even though i have 3G service in my sim card i cant access 3G service. i can just use 2G ( E symbol) in my mobile.. help me to fix this problem.. smartphone without 3G is hard to imagine ..
Samsung SGH i317 user from china...

1) Did you make a correct APN setting for your Chinese carrier?
2) Doesn't China use 1700/2100 band? If true you wood have to follow the steps to enable AWS like you are trying to join tmobile network, then input the correct APN settings.

I'm guessing 100% on this. I'm from the USA and can only google things obviously, but from what I've researched the only two cellular frequencies operating in Israel right now are 900 MHz and 1800MHz for a base network and some providers using 850 MHz and 2100 MHz for 3G. The AT&T Galaxy S3 can operate on the following frequencies:
2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network: LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100
This means that if you were on a carrier that used 900 or 1800 MHz networks, you would only be achieving 2G network speeds which really are not sufficient for tethering and video chats.
Could you please provide your carrier so we can help you further? It could just be a matter of APN settings depending on your wireless carrier. Second question: Are you 100% sure the phone is SIM unlocked?
Also your baseband is related to your modem. UCLEM is the stock AT&T baseband. I9300 is the model number of the international Galaxy S3 and doesn't have anything to do with the baseband. Never flash an international modem on your AT&T S3 or you will risk a brick and or loss of your IMEI, something you should back up anyway.

ok so my carrier is HSDPA i am connecting in israel to company that calls "plephone" this company only has 3G,and for your other question when i got my phone it was locked for using here in israel so i opened it with a code like i saw on you tube and it works just fine for the basic things.
hope i helped you to help me.
Awesome. Are your APN settings as follows? You should have two. One for data and one for mms:
Pelephone APN settings for DATA
Name: Pelephone 3G
APN: internet.pelephone.net.il
Proxy:
Port:
Username: [email protected]
Password: pcl
APN type: default,supl
Pelephone APN settings for MMS
Name: Pelephone MMS
APN: mms.pelephone.net.il
Proxy:
Port:
Username: [email protected]
Password: pcl
Server: pelephone
MMSC: http://mmsu.pelephone.net.il
MMS proxy: 10.170.9.54
MMS port: 9093
APN type: mms
These should be correct and should allow you a good data connection. You should experiment with the data APN. I was reading that some people change the APN to sphone.pelephone.net.il and Authentication to PAP. Also some roms restrict tethering. If this doesn't work try a rom like triune II with unrestricted tethering and see if it works. Best of luck and welcome to XDA.

Weird. I'm sorry it didn't help you. It doesn't sound like a ROM issue, it truly sounds like you might have a bad SIM card or you're not provisioned for data OR the phone didn't unlock properly. Have you tried using the SIM in another phone?

Can you make regural calls? I you don't this seems like sim card is not unlock. If you do try diffriend modem and check if you APN's are 100% correct. Also for tethering you must root your phone and install correct mod.
hi
regular phone calls i can make i use the phone for almost 2 month, the sim card was before on my wife's iphone and worked perfectly, and allso on blackberry 9800.
mms messages i can send, but video call i can't accept, and in my phone i don't have the link to do video call when i press setting or when i want to call to one of my contacts, you see the problem is not that i can't make the video call but i don't have the link on setting or in my contacts to make this call.
if you suggest me to do root or something like that, please explain to me how to do it or give me link for explaination.
thanks

I see. VoIP and video calling isn't supported by AT&T stock software. In order to do a video call on Android you need a 3rd party application like Skype. There is no option to video call someone without using an application as an interface. Of course, the other person you're calling must also have that very same app installed to use it. I hope this helps.
As for your issue with using the phone for tethering: the stock AT&T software doesn't allow this. What you need to do is either use a 3rd party application to do this, or root your phone using the toolkit in the development section, install recovery, and flash a ROM that supports it. I'm still going to recommend Triune II by NunHugger. It has unrestricted tethering, it's based on stock firmware, and allows you to use all of the phones features. Best of luck to you.

[Q] [SGH-M919v] Galaxy S4 no LTE

Hello,
I have an open-line Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919v) and the problem is that I can't use the LTE feature of this device even though there is a sticker of LTE on the phone. The network mode option doesn't show LTE option as it only says WCDMA/GSM, WCDMA Only and GSM Only. I also tried to change the settings in *#2263# but selecting LTE changes the Signal bars to " Ø " I upgraded from Kitkat (4.4.2) to Lollipop(OTA) and still the LTE option on Network mode is missing.
I am using an LTE sim and also am very sure that I am in an LTE spot. The phone was from Canada but I don't know which network specifically it was subscribed to as it was only given to me.
Hoping to fix this problem as soon as possible, Thank you.
You should ask here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
But probably there isn't anything you can do. You phone doesn't really support LTE. It support some bands, but your provider is probably using a different band for LTE. So your phone will never get LTE with that provider.
Choose "automatic" after dialing *#2263*
Worked for me.
Sent from M919V Galaxy S4 via XDA Premium HD app.
I had a vzw s4 and was able to get lte in a hybrid att area. I had to use lte specific locked band in the options and would change to gsm or automatic when i left the hybrid area to be able to place calls etc. In the hybrid area everything worked fine.

SGH-T999 Stuck on Edge only

Hello there hope all of you doing well
i had Tmo SGH-T999 S3 which is unlocked but after unlocking its stuck on 2G Network i couldn't use 3g network
i search on google and i found this code :*#197328640#
but i don't know how to use it any way can you help me
wish best times 4 you ^_^
Did you sim-unlock the phone using a code?
I'm also having this issue. I have TMO SGH-T999 S3 sim unlocked before via software (not unlocked via code) and always stays on E (2G). I am thinking that i got messed up after the unlock. My IMEI is still intact btw.
First thing is to double check that your IMEI exactly matches the one on the sticker under the battery. If it checks out, the next best step is to reflash your current or newer stock firmware. (This can be caused by mismatched firmware so by flashing it you will either fix the problem or eliminate it as the cause).
You may also want to check your IMEI against the blacklists online. Especially if you bought it anywhere but a retail store.
Unlocking via code or secret menu should not affect radio bands available in the phone.
WCDMA Band preference
I've checked the WCDMA (3G) band preference available in my T999 S3 and below are the only option available:
The mode preference menu: *#2263#
The information menu: *#197328640#
WCDMA 850
WCDMA 900
WCDMA 1700
WCDMA 1900
WCDMA IMT2000
WCDMA ALL
... and found out my carrier band preference for 3G is 2100. Seems i'm out of luck for 3G data and since this T999 cannot support 4G LTE. I guess i'm stuck on E (2G) data unless i use WiFi.
P.S - Is there a way to add a 1800 or 2100 band preference to WCDMA? :fingers-crossed:
Check the General section in AT&Ts forum. They had something like this if I remember right. They could enable use on a different band, but I don't think it would stick after a reboot. It's been a long time since I looked at it though, so they may have made some more progress on it.
Goodbye 2G (E) data connection
I'm happy to report that my (WCDMA) data speeds is now functional on my SIM network carrier! :good: Loving the speed browsing at last . Although showing as 4G but i know my T999 is not capable of that and not very sure.
Again, thanks DocHoliday777 (I don't know how to link your name) for giving me the idea about the Modem mod. I just followed the guide on the link below and used the NV Data backup from T999L file. So for any users of T999 you can try this mod but please do it at your own risk and don't forget to backup.
I hope this T999L modem mod can be included on the newer root66 baseband/firmware so it can be permanent?
Anyway, just follow the guide on the link below and hit thanks!
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627
P.S - To access the modem setting on my SGH-T999 I've used the code *#0808#. And my final WCDMA setting i chose WCDMA ALL. Goodluck!

WIND modem (T889V) on SGH-i317M (now with WIND) possible?

I know the answer isn't out there as I've been searching for years! I've had my i317m from Telus converted to work on WIND for 3 years now using the AWS mod (dummy zip) but this never worked well when I was on the highway as it doesn't switch roaming towers well...it gives me no connection at times or hangs on 1 bar on home network when a true WIND phone would go between roaming and home networks when signal was obviously un-usable anymore.
Before anyone says, yes I was using a WIND ROM(no modem), but I could never get a T-mobile or WIND modem to be recognized, and believe me I tried them all. The baseband always says "unknown" and no connection. I believe it has something to do with different partition sizing?
So I would like a REAL WIND modem from a T889V to work together with a WIND ROM and that should solve my roaming issues. (any other ideas?)
I'm on Jellybean 4.3 (T889VVLUCMK4) still as I couldn't find newer rooted WIND roms with no modems(only ones I can use) for later versions.
Modem I ended up using is from Rogers i317M (i317MVLUCMK5) with AWS mod and I have all the required bands enabled for proper roaming (roaming for WIND in Canada is on Rogers, Bell, Telus)
I call on the experts on this site to chime in please, and there will be a few coffees/beers in it for ya!
