Hi,
Being in Australia the Captivate Glide is not available locally so ordered it online via a parallel importer.
I was supposed to receive the AT&T version but due to no stock I received the Rogers i927R version.
I cannot root the device as my work place prevents it since I need to use it for work related messaging.
1. Is there a list of differences between the AT&T and Rogers ROM's ?
2. I'm on Optus which uses 900/2100MHz, so the phone will connect on 2100.
Using an App called Network Signal Info I can see data connection switching when I'm moving around as normal, but the data symbol in the notification bar doesn't match when on 3G as follows:
NetInfo | Speed | Notif-Bar-Symbol
GPRS | 55kbit | G
UMTS (3G) | 384kbit | 4G <-- doesnt say 3G
HSDPA | 7.2Mbit | 4G
This a bug or ROM incompatibility ?
Thanks.
The only differences I know of is that the Rogers ROM is carrier-iq free and the tethering option is unlocked.
In my AT&T version, I can't find any way to manually toggle between 2G and 3G networks. However the network info apps/widget show it's automatically switching between EDGE, HSDPA and HSPA.

It would be handy to sometimes by able to force 2G to save battery.
Anyway, can the Rogers ROM be flashed onto the AT&T Glide and still work ?

Good point.
Sounds like I should stick with the Rogers one they sent me rather than swap it for an AT&T version since the Rogers one will be most compatible without having to 'root'.
Carriers in Australia seem to allow tethering by default as long as you have a working App for it.
Thanks.
Which parallel importer did you use, do they have an online storefront?
Hope the Rogers version pricing comes down as fast the AT&T one. That's I went for At&T, down the line I'll end up flashing it with an open ROM. Mostly because of OpenVPN support.

Indeed that's why I asked, since I don't use any data packages.
I checked my mom's S II, appears to be an AT&T carrier limitation. It won't even scan for other networks. I set her S II to 2G.
Earlier I wasn't concerned with the AT&T ROM, but this one is annoying, I could save some serious battery time by switching to 2G.

They've been very helpful and responsive, trying to get stock as quickly as possible.
When they couldnt get the AT&T Captivate Glide they sent me the Rogers Galaxy S Glide.
Seems that was the better way to go.
AT&T locks down their network and band select while Rogers does not. AT&T uses an "H+" on the HSDPA network to show status while Rogers uses a "4G".
Learned by flashing Rogers ROM onto an ATT cglide. Changed the model to 927R as well. Went back to ATT when I noticed the loss of the ATT wifi options.

So even after rooting the phone, there's no way to manually change bands while on the AT&T ROM?

Which WiFi options? Is the Rogers ROM disabling some WiFi options?

I'm using the Rogers version in Australia.
I have all the normal WiFi options and have used it at home and on public ones with no issues.
I think, just guessing, that Tynar is talking about the customized WiFi options on the AT&T ROM I have read about which gives you access to their own WiFi network.

Yep, I since had a look at the User Guides, of which there is a different one for each version Rogers and AT&T. The ROM's have been customized to show different symbols for mobile connectivity.

Ya... Thats at&t limitation, I guess... But atleast in my sister's AT&T Thrill phone (running Froyo + rooted with SuperOneClick) the "NETWORK" app (LINK) from AM/PlayStore works and helps in selecting 2G only or 3G only whenever needed...
But even that app is NOT working on my rooted CapGlide... May be because this phone has only rooted-ROM and not rooted-Kernal (as told by rooting guide in cap.glide development section)... Experienced members please help... I badly need 2G only for battery backup and 3G only for good speed as 3G coverage in my place is not great...
Thanks...

With AT&T Rom, you don't have that option.
You can flash Rogers Room (Untouched or Custom Rom) where you have the option of manually choosing network and choosing 2G/3G
Switching to 2G would really save on battery life.
So the notable differences are...
1. The AT&T ROM doesn't allow band switching or manual carrier search and selection. While the Rogers ROM does not have this restriction?
2. AT&T allows WiFi tethering, while Rogers doesn't?
3. Both versions come with Mail for Exchange apps?
4. Skype, G+ Hangouts, Google Talk, Voice and video works on both?
Please add/correct any other big differences. I'll make a table and put it up on Wikipedia once we have the notable differences, that could cause issues with international use.

No need to be rude!
Hey All,
So, for some reason, I am unable to get LTE when i am flashed on the AOKP jellybean rom for the SGH-1747M (rogers)
I did everything that was stated in Task's Gerrit (Changed the connection for WCDMA to LTE/GSM auto), all that does is work for a while on H+, then disconnects.
I've changed my apn settings to the Rogers LTE settings, which just cuts off communication all together
Ive flashed Rogers Modems, still to no avail.
The thing that bothers me is that other sgh-1747M users claim to have been getting LTE on the AOKP jellybean rom.
My question is WHY AM I HAVING TROUBLE!!!??? I know the Rom was made for an At&T sgh1747, so people may say thats why its not working, but people with Canadian SG3's have been able to get LTE on the same ROM im having trouble getting it on.
If theres anything at all im missing, can someone please clarify exactly what im missing and what I should do to get it working.
I love the AOKP jellybean ROM, i keep going back to it, but the LTE not working just hurts my feelings (since I am paying for an LTE smartphone plan). PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!
PS: the first time I ever changed from WCDMA to LTE/GSM autom i got a 4G symbol for about 30 secs.....never seen it again! HELP!
i dont have a gerrit. so im unsure what you are talking about.
you need to add a canadian LTE apn and then do this...
Enter *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer
phone information
set preferred network type
change to LTE/GSM auto

sorry not gerrit. you stated the info above in one of your earlier updates, which I did. Didnt seem to work for me though. Are there any suggestions as to how I can possibly fix the problem?

I'm not really sure. Being as I don't have a Canadian model its not something I can test. But I'm sure some Canadian users will be posting here to help you out soon.
when i try to change the preferred network it will not let me change it to anything else but to lte/gsm (prl) (i have the AT&T version)

Thats interesting. Maybe its because you are actually using at&t network. It works when I put it on LTE/GSM, but all I get is 3G and H+
Check your IMEI in about phone/status. If its showing 0, there's a thread for that.
If you're getting 4G icon and your mobile network status says LTE and are getting LTE speeds, then its cosmetic issue. I had that problem before.
What I did was I flashed Kyan's ROM 1.3 cause its based off of Rogers firmware. Once I verified I had LTE icon on Kyan ROM, then flashed the stock/rooted ROM after.

Interesting. I will try that method and see what happens. Thanks for the info; will post back with results soon
Ok, so after going through the whole process stated above, i WAS able to get a 4G symbol come every now and then. But before the connection actually finalizes and goes through (before it turns blue on the aokp rom), it disconnects and goes back to WCDMA preferred. I added the rogers LTE apn, and using that apn with the LTE/GSM auto selected allowed the 4G to come, but it keeps disconnecting. It even sometimes changes back to other apns on the list by itself
Anyone know if theres a way to lock the preferred network and apn settings?
enter apn settings, then REBOOT phone. After that, enter *#*#4636#*#* into phone dialer and go change to LTE/CMDA/GSM. that worked for me, I just needed to reboot my phone for the apn settings to work

I stumbled upon this thread and the above solution using the dialer code. Worked instantly, no reboot required. I'm running R4INS AOKP Jelly Bean port on a Rogers SGH-I727.

Mine works until I reboot. Then it changes back to WCDMA. I'm on Telus.
LTE on canadian i747M (Rogers)
I had similar issue with LTE after flashing to AOKP rom. The fix provided by AOKP (after every reboot, type in *#*#4636#*#* and flipping the network type from WCDMA to LTE_only, then flip to LTE/GSM auto(PRL) ) works. LTE will show up as 4G. I have the 2012-09-30 AOKP build installed.
Yesterday all of a sudden I could not get LTE anymore. Not sure what happened as the only thing I did was to activate a new account on Google. Anyway the 4G/ flipping did not work anymore. Reflashed the rom several times, still the same issue, my phone will not get LTE/4G.
This morning tried the following and voila it worked, thought I will share this:
Flip the network type to LTE Only, there is no connection, REBOOT the phone.
1. After reboot, flip the network type to LTE Only again, this time, the connection worked - what a surprise/thrill.
2. Flipped the network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL), connection was ok and 4G came on and stayed on. Did several reboots and repeated 1 and 2 and LTE/4G was ok.
Hope this helps.
I don't recommend you to use task aokp rom! You won't get LTE real speed and Dev won't help you since you are not an at&t user! He couldn't care less about the rest so try liquid jelly bean which is a lot faster and better or milestone 4 and aristodemo! They have better support although they are tw rom but worthy anyways

Task compiles that ROM based on AOKP source, but AOKP officially doesn't support att. Although I didn't have problems getting lte on his ROM the fact that you have to set it every time you reboot is why I am using cm10 for now otherwise it's a good ROM!
I'm having the same issues on my rogers branded s3. No matter what I do I can get lte to even appear. My apn auto rolls back to the provided apn and if I delete that I have no data at all. Hopefully this does have an answer because the Rom is amazing

Alright I think I have it figured out. I added the rogers APN related all others and the only change I made was I removed the info under APN type where it said internet+MMS and left it blank. Saved the APN rebooted and I have lte now. I even rebooted my phone and each time it boots up its showing 4g without having to play with any settings

I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and this only happens after a period of time where the LTE will just stop working but if you switch to CDMA it's working fine?
To go a step further I've wiped the phone and restored to stock. Once that's done LTE is working fine.
To go further again, I grabbed a different ROM and the exact samething happens, I'll be able to be on LTE for about a day and then the service stops and if I switch it to CDMA I'm good.
Just wondering if anyone else here has noticed that.
Cheers,
did you verify your APN settings?
i'm using a Bell version GN2 but on Fido and i can flash all day everyday and 4g has always worked.

The APN settings are always the same with Bell. They don't change.
HSPA+ will work but LTE will die after a little while. (This only occurs on other ROMS). If I stay on the stock rom there's no problem.

On a different note... I noted that if I have SAMBA Fileshare on I have strange things that happens DATA wise.... I'm still looking into it and dropping logcat and looking at different possibility.
At this point it's looking like something with the SMB Fileserver I have on the phone. (Will know later on)

Hello all, I'll be as brief as possible.
Bought Bell ZL C6506 bootloader cannot be unlocked, Unlocked carrier, used with Fido.
Everything worked perfectly, hated Bell Bloatware, tried to root with Binary nothing happened.
Flashed generic us firmware using flashtools > no LTE and loss reception here and there
Updated multiple times with PC companion/update service, fixed reception a little, still no LTE. 3G works though.
Any suggestions? It's obviously the generic us firmware that messed it up but it was for the c6506..
PS. Awesome phone, crappy screen > even my xperia S looks better but I'm happy overall

So if you are with Fido, you do use ltemobile.apn as the APN setting (its the same as Rogers).
And if so, have you checked the "Phone Information" by typing *#*#4636#*#*
You should be able to select the band. Try using LTE only to see if it picks it up. Maybe yours is defaulted with "WCDMA preferred".
I'm with Rogers and it is by default at LTE/GSM auto (PRL). This is on FW. 244 if it makes a difference.
Did it ever work in the past, was a different baseband flashed on it in the past for whatever reason?
If you had an xperia S in the past and had data, you were using 3G and H+. The Xperia S didn't support LTE. Did you get the SIM card compatible with LTE?

The apn setting is exactly that; ltemobile.apn
My sim card is LTE ready.
I have already tried going to "testing menu", but will try again as I'm typing.
Last time LTE only would just lose reception entirely (no bars, red x)
I switched LTE/GSM auto (PRL) to LTE only.
This time, it went to zero bars. I turned on Mobile Data and LTE showed up on the status bar. I tested this on a couple of websites and they loaded up quickly. Now If turn off mobile data, reception would return to 4/5 bars.
Maybe the baseband was changed..
I don't why the reception is 0/1 bar(s). Anyways LTE now works so that's an improvment, Thanks.
I have a SGS3 I747M from Canada Fido and now using in Pakistan after network unlock. It does not register on GSM 2G/3G network whenever the 2G signal strength drops approximately below -70 dbm. It can neither make nor receive a 2G call
Things tried so far
tried all available modem drivers from XDA Forums
tried on stock Jelly Bean 4.3
tried on stock KitKat 4.4.2 (currently on it)
tried changing to airplane mode and back
tried change network mode to 'GSM Only'
tried signal boosters from android market
But nothing works.Only where signal is strong around -50 to -60 dbm it is able to connect to the network.
have tried it on two different operators Mobilik and Warid but result is same.
What can be done to fix it??

I'm not so sure about this but perhaps the device doesn't have the right frequencies (being a Canadian variant).
That being said, You could try different baseband and modem. I'm not sure if will work but worth a shot.

I747m does support gsm 900/1800 which are supported in my region.
I have already tried all I747m modems available on xda forums but i guess these are all for canadian networks.
Can you suggest if i can use a modem for another s3 variant released for pakistan.
Would any custom rom/modem be able to fix this?
Problem is only when it detects weaker signal. Though other handsets connect comfortably in the same spot. If i move around a bit where signals improve, it connects and works fine
could there be a low signal threshold programmed in this device for power saving or something
Only flash things that are for your device model. Flashing s different devices modem is a great way to hard brick.
Sorry im not sure about a solution. Just wanted to at least warn you against flashing a different modem.
Have you contacted your carrier to see if they might have any useful info for you?
