at&t employee phone..risk to root?

Hey guys. Just got my new company phone after my skyrocket shattered. Can't stand the LG ui ... I want to root. My phone us owned by at&t..as an employee am I at risk to root you think? I'm familiar with root just not sure if it's risky since this phone isn't mine technically

If you know what you're doing and can back up everything for restoral later (CWM can help with this, of course), I don't see why you'd get in trouble for playing with your company phone. Just don't create more work than necessary for support techs and you should be fine lol. Also, you probably don't want to flaunt crazy customizations to your coworkers

Or you could always use Go Launcher Ex and other Go products

Ya I'm using adw right now with go locker. Still doesn't help me with the LG ui in every core app as well as the nasty notification icons. Any suggestions on how I can get those looking a little better?
As for rooting..I asked a coworker. He said I'd get fired Haha. Not sure how they would ever find out..

AT&T are parasitic leeches, they will find out. Trust me. They monitor the phones. I'd buy a Nitro off contract with a clean ESN and load it onto your account, that way you can say that it's your phone.

No not yet as there is NO roms or ASOP stuff out for it yet. So rooting or not rooting ur still gonna have it

FWIW, I've worked for At&t for a year and a half, and I've rooted every phone I've had. They can't tell when your phone is rooted; I even have a couple coworkers that have flashed MIUI on their GSIIs.

Where do you come off with saying that AT&T will find out if your phone is rooted? Firstly, u don't seem to be on AT&T but instead on Sprint. Second, there won't be hundreds of forums dedicated to AT&T android phones if AT&T knows immediately if you root the phone. Third, millions of users Root their phones, and even unlock the bootloader. I just sent my unlocked Atrix back to AT&T due a damaged 3.5mm port, and they didn't even say anything. So please do not provide false information to those who wish to know.

Oh now I'm tempted.. thanks for letting me know. What are the advantages without custom roms? And did you Work retail or does that even matter. And is there a recovery image just in case?

There is a recoverory image I think. BUT theres nothing for us to REALLY do to our phones yet. no roms or anything

it seems to me that since you came here inquiring about the risk to your job, that there is indeed some % of chance that you could lose your job over rooting your phone, is that fair to say?
if that's fair to say, I think this is not the best place to seek job security advice + the answer seems obvious.

Ya its not worth my job. I'll just wait for my personal phone in a few months. Thanks for the help guys. That Guy who said he roots all his COUs got me thinking though

Currently, I have a T-Mobile Note 4, but looking to change devices soon. Has anyone switched from a Note 4 to the G4?

I like it so far only thing I can't stand is the screen but not sure if mine is just bugged. Going to go look at one in the store and see if it has the viewing angle problems also

I figured it was a given to give pros/cons on that type of question.

But yeah I like everything better but the screen which I'm thinking is a dud for my phone

I switched from the Note 4. I received the phone last Friday and used it for a couple of days.
My initial impressions is that the phone is light, the leather feels great and the camera is awesome. I thought that I would have issues with the buttons being on the back but I got used to them pretty quickly. The IR Blaster is a joke. I literally have to be right in front of my tv to work.
I however felt like something was missing and decided to go back to the Note 4. It wasn't as much of an upgrade although it's a great phone.
I went to a cookout on Saturday and people kept complementing me for my case, I had to tell them that it wasn't a case and that it was part of my phone!!
I'd say that you don't have to switch if you have the Note 4 but if you are a tech whore like me, you may.

Oh OK, I got the note 4 a week ago, upgrade time, and being on galaxy 4 I was stoked to go with note, after a week with it, I felt it was too big, couldn't one hand swipe text, no root (huge deal breaker) and felt it was too overpriced for what it was, for the 700$ one could easily get a nice hybrid tablet that would trump the note... Now if it was rooted and unlocked might be a different story.... Anyways I took back note 4 and am awaiting the lg g4... great news LG has provided unlock.bin for EU version.... One step in right direction

Switched to the g4 and back to the Note 4.
Can't pint point what was missing. Just had a feeling that made me want to go back to my note. I don't use s pen much but it's nice to know that I have it there. Maybe that was it.

Camera definitely better, no major touchwiz lag, with the Note 4 pretty much had to install custom rom, I like the back buttons and lack of physical buttons. The S-Pen was cool at first but it was quicker for me to just pull up any other note app and just type a note than draw anything.

Interesting. I'm rooted on the note and using Nova. You make a good point about notes. An interesting thing about the G4 if you're coming from the Note is the size. You won't miss the Size

Also gps is a 1000x better I could never get a lock inside with my note 4. My g4 I can get a lock inside a basement Datacenter

Now im using galaxy S5 Im just waiting my lg g4 its comes with 128 sd card on TMO offer on the web ...

Samsung pay?

So I just got sent a replacement device and have not modified(rooted) yet. I was curious if there is any way to get Samsung pay working on this device.
Any insight would be nice

I have Note Edge Tmobile and am running RiverRom S6/Note5 looking rom...its nice and smooth. I have Xposed, Lucky Patcher, and Wanam..Gravity Box..XBlast and a few other mode...and Android Pay has been working for me since day 1... if I may ask what is the issue that you're having cuz I'm seeing this a lot lately

Android pay doesn't seem to have a problem but Samsung pay loads and then closes every tube

i so regret not checking the model number before buying. xD D856 legit has no support for custom roms afaik.

I'm a heavy user. Use the phone a lot. From morning 10AM to 2PM, the charge goes from 100 to 40% or so. Not really sure. I'll monitor it tomorrow.
And for apps? Mostly social medias (whatsapp, insta, db.) and 8ballpool and fifa 15. These majority of the time lately. Wbu?

Well..I also want to heavily use it but i face battery draining and over heating even while using the messenger app..I am going to buy a new battery today to see if its a battery problem or something is wrong with the mobile..
I think your battery life is decent if you play games and get that battery life...also do you face heating issue?

Both October and November patches for Sprint didn't mention any camera improvements, did you receive any?

I took the update then re entered my fingerprints. It appears to be working much better. Time will tell if it stays that way.

accidentally took the update on my n976v also lol.. there goes my testing.. looks like gonna move back to g975u testing

Received this morning upon waking. I haven't re input my fingerprints yet, but even at that, iit seems y to be working a little quicker than even with the patch they rolled out.. Verizon N10+ carrier version..

Yup. Received a feature update yesterday with camera improvements on my U1. Then got this update this morning. It's just a security patch BUT PLEASE NOTE!!! This moves you up to bootloader v2. You can NOT roll back to previous versions.
This also tells me the Android 10 beta will have a v2 bootloader when it's pushed, otherwise we wouldn't be able to install it.

In my experience, about every two weeks, the FP sensor gets mega wonky and won't recognize my prints. So I have to re-enter them. Then it works like butter, but slowly degrades in performance for a couple weeks until it's wonky again.

I've got 4 updates on my Note 10+ in the 7 weeks I've had it. Never had so many updates on a device in such a short time and I own a OP6T and P2XL
Maybe we'll be getting Android 10 with One UI 2.0 before the new year. It definitely seems companies are finally pushing updates like they should. We pay a lot of money for these devices so it's good to know they are being supported better these days.

Only in certain regions...
They roll out in waves but certain regions seem to get priority over others...
Kinda sucks balls being on the end of the list and waiting 2 months for an update or feature the forums are all talking about a month or 2 in advance....
Even worse when a security threat is found and we are stuck in limbo wondering if we are gonna get an update soon to fix that which has been found...

For me it's the opposite. Seems like the more I use FP the better it gets. When registering I alternate each thumb every press.

Hey, Butchie. I may have to try that. Been getting frustrated with it. Id say it's my Whitestone Dome screen protector, but literally when I first register the prints, it works smooth as butter. Couple weeks later and it's like it doesn't recognize my prints at all.

Anyone know of an Odin ASJ8 for U version in case we want to roll back to Pie?

Plenty of copies around. Venom has one posted on androidfilehost. Sammobile has one. They are present and handy. In fact, flash the csc from it AfTER you are on the beta to get back your carrier features.
