No 4G connection - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my brand new nexus 5x to replace my nexus 5.
So I had to get a nano SIM for it and once I activated my new nano SIM, I've quite astonished that I had no more access to 4G network.
Everything was fine with the Nexus 5, with an high speed 4g network.
I checked all the possible network settings and everything looks fine except that at the end I cannot connect to 4g, HSDPA only...
I'm based in France, using "FreeMobile" operator. Running MDB08L.
Is there any trick to enable/force 4g connection on the LG h791f ?
Bousqi

I'm having the same problem on my new Nexus 5X on the Nexus 5 I had 4G now the same location and the New Nexus 5X only gets E(dge).
Also the name of my mobile provider does not appear but just numbers: 206 01 but my Provider should be Proximus.
I'm from Belgium

APN settings?

Bad timing issue, it appears that my mobile operator network dropped down at the same time I switched from nexus 5 to 5x ?
Network is up again and 4g is running fine as I was expecting.

Mine is also fixed I got a new nano SIM and now it is working properly.
Thanks XDA !

Inconsistent data connection

HI folks, i'm not sure if this is a well known problem or not, but i thought i'd give it a try. Ok the basics of the problem are that i can be on my mobile browser or any app and you can see the upload and download indicator arrows in the taskbar working away just fine, then randomly, even if the signal strength stays the same, i will lose the download arrow, and the upload arrow will stay on. At this point I cannot access the internet at all and sometimes this does not start working again until i reboot, and sometimes not even then!! This has happened With my last 4 phones (all android) so it seems like either a problem with my sim card, with t-mobiles network, or with android itself. Is anyone else having this problem??
thanks.
4 phones have been G1, Nexus 1, Desire HD and LG Optimus 3D
I dont have such a problem (orange uk). I think that is a problem with your sim card or network provider

Really? Not a single person? Is anyone in the UK using a nexus on T-Mobile?? Lol

This used to happen all the time on my Vibrant here on Tmobile USA. 2.1 eclair was downright awful. CM 7.1 it was better but without Gingerbread drivers i was stuck with the last Froyo baseband. Even then i still frequently had this issue so i mostly used wifi at the house. Areas with stronger signal i rarely noticed this. But ironically i have yet to experience this with my galaxy nexus. Havent needed wifi at the house yet.
My problem seems to be different for the OP's. I lose the network connection totally; I get no data or no calls. Only a reboot can resolve it. I have noticed this with an AT&T SIM card and an H2O Wireless SIM card. IT seems to be the phone, as I don't have problems with the AT&T SIM card in other phones.
telstra Australia. the data is smooth and fast.

Unlocked signal problem?

I just unlocked my lg nitro hd and i either have no signal or 1-2 bars, rarely 3 bars. I also have to search networks and register on t-mobile everytime my signal is gone.
Signal always goes out in about 2 mins and Wifi is working fine.
Network mode is set at LTE / WCDMA / GSM
I'm running cyanogenmod 9.0
Baseband-V10j
I also resetted it to stock and i still get the same signals.
When i slip the sim card into my nexus one, i get 4 bars.
Any solutions?
thanks
Nitro HD doesn't support T-Mobile 3G frequencies, so you will only be able to connect to 2G towers. I'm assuming the distinction is that the Nexus One is connecting to a 3G tower which is closer to you.

[Q] Lte - anyone slow/idle 3g speed?

got the nexus 7 lte and with my 3g sim card, it has problem sending data even with full reception. For instance, at 3g /h, its does not switch to h+ immediately . When it changes to h+ it loads for a few seconds and goes back to h where the connection will just idle
But when I put in my 4g sim card, iit's fast and responsive.. Instant loading for all and no such idling..
No problems with wifi.
Anyone having problems with hsdpa? Running 36c version and changed to custom rom and i changed to a new 3g sim card butProblems still persist.
(no response from Q&A so had to post here)
I'm getting much better speeds with the LTE tablet on T-Mobile than my GNex phone on Tmobile. Maybe you don't have good coverage in your area?

Actually it's fine on 4g. Just 3g even with full reception..
Deleted weird double post (how does something like this happen 30 minutes after I exited the app?!?)
It's with full reception.. I tried the same 3g sim on 2012 nexus, it seems fine..
I got a feeling it's a bug or my unit is faulty
Remember on 4g it's fine.. Just hsdpa/3g
Mine has never shown LTE symbols, but it's faster than my non LTE phone. I don't know if that's because it's capable of faster HSPA or it just doesn't show LTE. Anyway, the speeds I posted are using HSPA not LTE as far as I can tell. Ignore the wifi speed test, I was testing a poor wifi repeater.

I dunno if it's my service provider sux or my tablet is faulty

LTE N7 owners: Is anyone having troubles switching between data and wifi

I have a question for other N7 LTE owners. Is anyone having trouble switching between data and wifi? When I leave a wifi area, I will pick up a connection but no data is sent until after several reboots/switching to airplane mode or maybe just hours waiting and vice versa too but when I connect to my router although I don't have internet I can still access my router's setup page.
Googling the issue I find many other owners of nexus devices (n4, galaxy nexus, n7 2012) complaining of similar issues but no n7 2013 lte owners yet.
So far I have not had any issues switching between WiFi and LTE.
I haven't had any problems with mine but then I switch off LTE (actually 3G with my provider) and switch on Wi-Fi when I arrive in a Wi-Fi area, then switch off Wi-Fi and switch on 3G when I leave it. Unless I'm in or near a dead spot, the 3G picks up a connection in a second or two.
Could it be the difference between LTE and 3G? Or could it be down to your provider?

I am in a 3g area too
So far, I've not had any problems. When I leave my house and ride in the train, I get normal data connectivity, 4G at the larger train stations and 3G at the smaller ones. Then when I'm at university, it connects to the Wifi there. Same thing on the way back home.
German Nexus 7 LTE with a T-Mobile data only SIM card and Elemental X 1.6 Kernel, stock ROM.
Who's your cellular provider? T-Mobile, AT&T, Straighttalk, etc.
Maybe have to do with the carrier.

Should I expect LTE or 4G symbol beside the signal bars?

I enjoy my new Nexus 7 LTE very much. But one thing bothers me. I have a LTE sim card in the tablet but I always see 4G symbol beside the signal bars instead of LTE. Actually I never seen LTE symbol since day one I put in the sim. Even at the same time my note 3 can have full bars of LTE signal, the tablet only shows 4G. The note 3 tested 100Mbps down on the speedtest.net but the Nexus 7 only has 50Mbps down when the 4G symbol is on. My carrier is Rogers in Canada. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or something is wrong with my tablet?
Mine always shows 4G only. If I use any other widget (like Zooper widget) that determines and shows connection type, it says LTE.
what's the top speed of your N7 on cell network?

Yes and no for me on AT&T.
I activated a SIM on AT&T on the Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE and it shows LTE in US.
But, I used the AT&T SIM I activated on Nexus 7 2012 3G on my Nexus 7 2013 and it never shows LTE, only H (HSPA). The transfer speeds on LTE are greater than HSPA on the same Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE..
Given the Nexus 7 2013 responds different on the same AT&T network at the same physical location just using 2 differently activated SIM gives me a clue there must be some difference in the network settings. I have not yet looked into the details exactly what happens different on the two AT&T SIM but this might help you.
I suspect the network configuration must be changed for LTE access, and it may have nothing to do with the Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE hardware. It is possible there is some AT&T throttling based on activation but I have no idea how they could do this on a per-device basis (outside my network configuration).

You have to call AT&T to "register" your imei number corresponding to the sim card you are using. Once you do that you will gain lte access. Mine was hspa until I called them.

Just done a test and found something very interesting, just like to report back.
I picked a spot where has very good LTE signal.
First I tested the speed on my Note3 and N7 with its own SIMs. My note3 showed LTE symbol and speed around 80Mbps. The N7 shows 4G symbol and speed around 70Mbps which is in the ballpark with Note3.
Then I switched the SIMs. The note3 still showed LTE symbol with N7 SIM in it. N7 showed 4G with the Note3 SIM in it. The speed test was about same as the first test.
My conclusion is that there is something in N7 doesn't like the Rogers network so the tablet always shows 4G even it is actually connected on LTE network and functioning on LTE speed.

I found it is possible to swap SIM on the same network provider without the tablet noticing, and the results might not change because the SIM settings are unchanged. There should be a tablet reboot involved when swapping SIM, so the new SIM settings are actually applied. I suspect you might have done a valid test, or it may be possible the settings did not update between SIM changes.
What I do is swap out one SIM, insert a SIM from another provider and boot up to configure settings for a second provider or at least clear out the first provider (the SIM does not have to be active), and insert the second SIM from same provider as first and boot up. This has worked very well. It might be enough to simply reboot the device but I don't know if the SIM setting are read and configured every time the tablet boots.
Good luck.

Yes, that's what I did. I power down the devices to switch SIM and power up to test. I've done the testing twice to be certain. If you insert SIM to N7 on the fly, the device will ask you to power off and on to make the SIM work.
