G3 randomly turns off for a few hours - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA,
My friend her G3 randomly shuts down sometimes, and it's impossible to boot it again for a while. After several hours it'll boot again on its own, and it seems like it went into some sort of hibernation since she doesn't have to enter her pin or anything.
Things she tried include removing the battery, holding down the power button for a long duration and charging the phone. Last time this happened the phone was at roughly 30% battery.
Does anyone here maybe have an idea what it could be or what a possible solution would be? It sounds like a very strange and improbably issue to me.
Thanks for reading!

This is due to kernal panic.
Flash stock firmware may be this will fix your problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089

Again this is a biasn answer could be kernal panic bad tweak rogue app. Ive even saw one that had a battery crap out on him out of nowhere

From next time i will try to mention all the possible reasons

Thank you straight flashing back stock may be a quick fix most of the time but we dont figure out the cause so we end up in the same boat cause we try to tweak the same tweaks. I dont claim to have the answers and yours could be correct. And i also accept critisism if im wrong

This could be a battery error. Is your battery old or new?. Otherwise it could be a kernel issue which can be caused by under volting or other tweaks within the kernel. If you are on stock ROM with stock kernel the only option is bad battery or hardware issue. Try factory resetting your phone if this doesn't work it is likely to be a hardware issue

[Q] Blue Screen of Death Everynight on CM11M7

This is the weirdest behavior I have ever noted from my device. I am on the LG E975 with CyanogenMod 11 M7 release. I installed it the day it came out and it was working like a charm, no problem.
However, over the last three days I wake up every morning to find that my phone has a blue screen of death on. I am quite groggy at this point, os I haven't ever tried to read the BSOD (I'll try to tomorrow morning). I shut it down and it goes into the bootloader menu, where it asks me to choose between options like, Power Off, Fastboot, Recover Menu ... And then I can power on like nothing ever went wrong. I suppose its relevant to mention that while hitting the bed my phone is usually near a full charge (>75%) but not plugged in.
This hasn't happened during the day at all.
I do not remember installing any new apps over the last 2/3 days and the only thing that is different is that my phone is on roaming (in the same timezone).
I tried having a look a the logcat but I am no mobile device expert and the one I was able to get in the morning only contained logs from the reboot, so no information about the crash itself.. If anyone has any suggestion on how to locate the problem that would be great.
I really want to avoid a complete wipe. Thanks all.

Leave a logcat here so i can help maybe.
Do you undervolt your cpu frequencys ? maybe you do it too much, or maybe overcock too much.
Also is a good idea check your app wakelock, maybe some wakelock is causing this, some app.

Hey,
Can you tell me how to retrieve my logcat? The one I was able to get is from the reboot in the morning.
I haven't ever played around with any sort of overclocking so that can't be it.
Can you also tell me a little more about app wakelock?
Thanks

With this you can get Logcat.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Download wakelock detector from playstore and check how many times and what app are causing wakelocks.
Really without logcat of reboot is very hard to say.
Anyway a hard reset should fix this..

LG G3 D855 shutsdown on its own

Hello,
So I bought a G3 the day before yesterday and yesterday was my first day with it, and for that first day my phone had shutdown twice on its own. The first time was when my phone was lying on the bed and doing nothing, it had around 50% battery and was not hot or anything.
The second time was this night i don't know when, i have put my G3 on the charger and went to sleep i woke up and it had shutdown.
I didn't made factory reset when i got i from the box which i will when i come home from work and hopefully this will fix it, but does anyone have a problem like that? If is something serious i will be disappointed to return the phone.
p.s. My previous phone was galaxy s2 and had this king of problem only with custom roms and kernels, but i have not put anything on the G3 yet, except activating the developers options and had switched it to ART and the first time the phone had shutdown i thought that the art was the issue and switched it back to dalvik, the second time though was on dalvik.

I have the exact same problem. The past few days when I go to bed and wake up in the morning, the phone has shut itself off. I haven't rooted or installed any custom roms.
I would advise you both to take a factory reset, only install apps you need for a few days and see if the problem persists, if it doesn't install your apps back one by one as it may well be a particular app causing the reboots.
If you still get reboots after the reset and with no apps installed then you may have to take the phone back to swap it.

Yes as I said in the first post the factory format and hard reset will be the first thing that will be done as soon I am at home. About the apps i have pretty much basic apps (facebook, messenger, soundcloud, etc) all from the market except smashhit of which i have the apk and installed from the internal memory.
Except those apps I have 2 mp3s and some wallpapers and nothing else, becouse when i got my phone it was late on the evening and i had no time to do anything else. So the phone is pretty much out off the box and I was verry frustrated when the secound shutdown happened, becouse i tought the first was from the ART runtime.
Anyway today I will have more time to spend on the phone and we will see what will happend.
p.s. The phone does not reboots, just shuts off.

Is it definitely off or is the phone just stuck on a black screen? It is quite common on some devices when something is not quite right for the kernel to be unable to wake the phone up, the phone is still technically on but stuck in deep sleep.
does holding the power button for 2 seconds turn it on? or do you have to hold it for say 7-8 seconds?

It is definetly shut down around 2 seconds(the normal time to hold the power button to turn on) it turns on and work perfectly and does not show anything suspicious in its behavior, it's super fast, not laggy and etc, may be a little high on ram consumptions but with this havy skin i think it is normal or could not be normal idk, the ram consumptions go from about 1,2GB the lowest i have seen to up to 2,3 the highes i have seen.
Anyway about the shut off think yes defenetly 100% sure it is off, it happend again a while ago and i thoght the same thing may be it si deep asleep even i had chacked the weather 10 min ago and call myself from a friends phone and the operator said that the phone is off or i am somewhere without network covarage.
i got same problem. it turn off it selft and black screen even battery still 70%. rmust remove the battery to restart again, ealy bad. huft

If you have to remove the battery to get it to restart then its not actually shut off, its just stuck in deep sleep! which is usually caused by a bad app.
Yes if you have to remove the battery the problem is different, i just have to push the power button and it boots right away after it have shuted off by its self........
i didnt have this issue with my 855. but i did a factory reset after i got the phone just for the hell of it
So it's reset time i finally have some time to the some staff on the phone so hopefully everything will be fine. I will post if this fix or not the problem to inform the other people in this thread.

did you have any luck with the problem? I have the same issue, performed a factory reset and restored, hopefully it will fix too..
Hi all!
I have and have had the same problem and think I've pinpointed the problem to Google Search but can't 100% confirm it yet. I didn't do a factory reset when I got the phone and it shutdown during the night. I did a factory reset, made sure it got enough time to update everything properly. Problem was gone and worked fine. HOWEVER, the phone kept asking me which home screen I prefer at random times when I hit the home button. With random I mean like 4+ times per day. I searched the net and found a threat saying that a guy with a G2 solved the problem by removing Google Search updates. So I decided to do just that and get the factory version back and the questions disappeared but guess what, the phone shut down the following night.
Any takers or might this just be random? Note that it was working fine for three days with the updated Google Search and shutdown the first night after the downgrade.
So I did hard reset and so far so good the phone had not shutted down itself, and I updated everything which need to be updated (mentioning this for the guy with the upper post). So far so good I will keep you in touch if something goes bad...

I suggest take it to your dealer and get it replaced asap. I've seen lots of returned phones(my job at XXXXXXX company ) with the same issue, and as long as the defect is reproducible the dealer will give you a new phone. If it's outa replacement period then they'll probably repair it.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand shut down again but this time it took quite a bit time longer to shut off by its self so i tought the problem was fixed, but it's not, so i am going to the store which i buy it from to replace the device.....
Does this also happen with the korean models?

Desperate for help with random reboots and shutdowns (all non stock Roms)

Guys,
I hate to do this but I really need some help. I am trying to troubleshoot my d851 which has random reboots and shutdowns with any rom other than stock. I have tried pretty much any ROM you can think of including PAC, Mahdi, Liquid etc.. This happens completely at rabdkm and can happen while the phone is just on the table or when I am surfing the web.
I downloaded catlog in an attempt to catch what is causing the crash but so far I have nothing ( not even sure I am using it right, I have no experience with debugging or things like that).
I used Catlog to record and actually had the phone reboot while it was recording so I might have something in that log but I have no idea what to look for
Any chance one of you fine folks is willing to help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ummm, would you be willing to try something? If yes, before replacing battery, open the hidden menu, i-e
Code:
3845#*851#
On the dialer app, navigate to ‘Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF’ and turn it on.
After that please restart, check if it shuts down at 50 percent again, if it does, please repaeat the proceedure but this time activate ‘High Temperature Property OFF' option.
Restart, then see if it shuts down at 50% battery power. If it still does, please disable both options and restart again.
Check one last time in the third scenario, if it still shuts off, please go on with replacing battery.
I am suggesting this because after installing Liveboot by @Chainfire, I have noticed the thermal daemon giving some errors at bootup, I disabled the daemon and now it doesn't shutdown on its own. I hope this is the case. Anyway, no harm in trying.
For me it was the battery ?

G3 does not boot unless I pull the battery

I just rooted and installed TWRP. Now when I power off my G3, I cannot boot it back up unless I pull the battery. I am not sure what went wrong. Please help
this happens to me on both D852 stock ROM and Cloudy.
I have the Sprint variant and I used to have the same issue on every power cycle. But now it happens maybe once every 20 power cycles. Do you have xposed installed? Make sure you flash the latest framework.

Sorry, by power cycle I mean the power off/reboot process. Sometimes, I would reboot my phone, but instead it would power off and it would not power back on until I did a battery pull. I also noticed that this happened more often when my battery was very low (below 10%). But for some reason I haven't had this happen to me in a while.

Well, once I upgraded to Lollipop this started happening. It never happened when I was on kitkat, and both times I have been rooted with custom recovery. It would do the same thing as you are describing. The phone acts dead and it does not charge/power on until I do a battery pull. The first time it happened I was scared because I thought I bricked the phone!

Is there a resolution to this? Or how is the problem for you now
I haven't found out what caused the problem to go away. I can either relate it to installing g3 tweaksbox and having the power menu come up through long press of home button, or by making sure I didn't greenify/freeze any critical system app. There is a system app called "Shutdown Monitor" that I think controls this power down process.

It used to happen almost on every reboot, but it only happened once in the last month. I can't trace it down to one cause. I think it has to do with active apps or processes that are interrupting the shutdown process. Make sure all your apps are closed and cleared from recents before shutting down.
I've been seeing this issue on CM12.1. I always thought the problem was CM related. It's interesting to see it's happening on stock ROM.
EDIT: phone is a d852

U have D850 right?
This issue is mainly with the at&t version of g3. On stock KK everything will be fine.
But on any LP rom there will be the No boot without battery swap issue and also Signal Drop issue.
This is not a issue with the roms. It is an issue with our AT&T lg g3. After a whole lot of search i still could not find anything. So i exchanged it with the international version.
Ive got the 32gb 3gb ram International version and mine does it too.
Its completly stock no root.It did it once about a month ago.
Then today i did a factory reset, charged the phone to 100% and unplugged it.
Went to use the phone a few hours later and it was dead had to do the battery pull connect to charger.
Battery was at 84%.
I also have this issue on my 32GB D852 variant. Battery pulls about 50 or 60% every time I try to boot. Sucks big time.
Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk
I have the issue too- D850 Fulmics 2.7. It's randomly shut off twice now in the past two weeks. Hopefully marshmallow will fix it! At the very least I'm glad it's not just me experiencing the issue- I just bought the phone used and was worried it was a dud.
Since this thread is pretty old now I'm wondering if people who have had the issue have any recommendations for potential fixes too.
Downgrade your TWRP to 2.8.5.1 and this will most probably (90%) solve booting problem. Before that you want to backup your modem with newest version of TWRP because old wersions can not do that. In case you need to restore your modem, just upgrade to newest version. So you are fully covered
I know I'm late to the game, but I want to thank @Navuhodonosor. Downgrading TWRP fixed my problem. I haven't had to pull the battery in over a month. Reboot and power on both work now, though Chainfire's Liveboot doesn't always load. Considering I installed that to try to troubleshoot the problem, I don't care

Random and untimely reboots

Hello everyon everyone.
I have the SM-P600 version, everything was good until the beginning of the week when touchpad began to go off without reason, and completely random.
I first reinstalled several official ROMs from the most recent to the oldest, with no significant improvement
Then i rooted and tried Lineage, it looked good for a while, but in the end same problem.
Please note, when the tablet begins to mess, the reboots are occuring more and more often and after a while it turns in a loop and im not even able to switch it off.
Samsung logo display, black screen, logo, black screen, etc ...
I think rather for a battery-side problem, if some people have faced similar problem, I'm taking help.
Do you know if by chance we can use the tablet without battery to test this theory?
Thank you in advance for any answers.

I think I'd be taking a close look at the physical power button. Seems to me that if it had gone flakey it could cause something like this.

Hello and thanks for you answer,
Just to precise i never faced this issue while flashing an official or custom ROM, dont know if it is just luck or it can help in anything
Anyway ill try to check it the power button just in case
It's weird I just started having this exact problem myself. One morning I unplugged it and it had shut itself down overnight. Since then it randomly reboots. Sometimes I can get 20/30 minutes out of it, but once it starts, it can get into multiple reboots with the only way to stop it is to plug in the charger. I tried wiping cashe/dalvic (no help). Nothing was recently changed (including apps). Tried resoldering battery connector (battery was replaced a year or so ago with OEM Sammy). The P600 is rooted with TWRP installed, but no custom ROM. Usually the reboots start while I'm doing something (surfing, email, etc.), but I don't think it will do it while sleeping. I'm considering the power button, but I don't see this exact problem anywhere else, but this post. Any ideas?
OK. My tablet has taken a turn for the worse. Now it is stuck in a continuous boot loop. I tried the power switch, no help. I tried booting into TWRP, and it went back into rebooting before I could do anything. Strange thing is I can put it into download mode indefinitely without it rebooting. Should I ODIN back to stock? I tried the resoldering of the battery connection earlier. Any other ideas?
