Desperate for help with random reboots and shutdowns (all non stock Roms) - T-Mobile LG G3

Guys,
I hate to do this but I really need some help. I am trying to troubleshoot my d851 which has random reboots and shutdowns with any rom other than stock. I have tried pretty much any ROM you can think of including PAC, Mahdi, Liquid etc.. This happens completely at rabdkm and can happen while the phone is just on the table or when I am surfing the web.
I downloaded catlog in an attempt to catch what is causing the crash but so far I have nothing ( not even sure I am using it right, I have no experience with debugging or things like that).
I used Catlog to record and actually had the phone reboot while it was recording so I might have something in that log but I have no idea what to look for
Any chance one of you fine folks is willing to help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ummm, would you be willing to try something? If yes, before replacing battery, open the hidden menu, i-e
Code:
3845#*851#
On the dialer app, navigate to ‘Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF’ and turn it on.
After that please restart, check if it shuts down at 50 percent again, if it does, please repaeat the proceedure but this time activate ‘High Temperature Property OFF' option.
Restart, then see if it shuts down at 50% battery power. If it still does, please disable both options and restart again.
Check one last time in the third scenario, if it still shuts off, please go on with replacing battery.
I am suggesting this because after installing Liveboot by @Chainfire, I have noticed the thermal daemon giving some errors at bootup, I disabled the daemon and now it doesn't shutdown on its own. I hope this is the case. Anyway, no harm in trying.

For me it was the battery ?

[Q] My phone won't turn *off*

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've been active here, but I've recently discovered a weird problem with my phone - I can't get it to turn *off*.
I rarely try to turn it off, so I have no idea how long it's been doing this, but I was on a plane recently and discovered that whenever I try to power it off, it'll pop right back on as soon as it shuts down.
I'm on CM7.1.0, but it's the same when I go back to my nandroid backups of 7.0.3, 7.0.2, and even stock 2.2! I have then eng-hboot (0.76.2000), radio is 26.08.04.16_M, recovery is CWM 5.0.2.0, but the same thing happened on 3.0.2.4. I can provide more info if needed.
Can anyone help?
Just... take the battery out?

But I mean how long is he going to keep his phone off for? If you're keeping the phone off for a long time, you shouldn't store it with the battery inside anyways.

Does this only happen when the device is plugged into the charger/connected via USB?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
1) Yes, pulling the battery works of course, but there should be a way to turn it off without doing that. And it comes on instantly when the battery is reinserted.
2) It happens regardless of whether it's plugged in or not.
Maybe I should try re-installing the engineering fastboot? Or try a different radio?
This was happening to a lot of CM Nightly users a few months ago (myself included), and it fixed itself a few days after it started. I still have no idea what caused it.

This happened to me just the other night. I needed to power off for a short while - I pulled the battery. I don't think it happens every time, but I was able to pull the battery and then reinsert it without the phone rebooting immediately.
It happens to me form times to times but i think its nothing serious so i just take the battery out
An update - I tried turning it off while plugged into my computer and watching the log in DDMS; it *CAN* turn off when it's plugged in! Still nothing when it's unplugged, though.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Like others have said, it's not like this is a major problem - I can always just pull the battery if I need the power to be off for some reason. And it's not like phones really need to be off for air travel, so I can't even think of a reason I would need it off, but still - this is obviously a flaw in something, and I can't stand knowing that it's not working exactly right. I think I'm going to flash a different radio, see if it makes a difference, but if anyone has any ideas how/why this is happening, I'd really appreciate you sharing them.
ETA: updating the radio didn't change anything.
same problem--- keeps turning back on
IOn my Desire Z running MIUI, i turn it off and it shuts down to turn itself back on! Very annoying, particulary when on a plane. Taking the battery off, OBVIOULSY fixes it. But not a very practical solution.
Similar to post above, it stays off when connected to USB. Go figure!
I think I read somewhere that this was a clwm issue with the most recent recovery, have you tried flashing a different one? Older or maybe try 4ext?
PS just reread your first post sorry, it seems you already tried a different recovery.
For the OP, since you tried reflashing, and I'm sure you wiped, then I would imagine it isn't a issue with the ROM, the radio didn't help so maybe bootloader or recovery.
OP here, sorry I hadn't checked in for a while. For unknown reasons, the problem's gone. No big changes to my phone, so the issue vanished as mysteriously as it appeared.

[Q] Anyone experiencing powering off and troubles switching it back on (charged)?

Hello guys,
I tried to search for a similar issues but I couldn't find anything similar so please bear with me.
My KF sometimes shuts down overnight. In the morning then I have troubles to switching it on again (clicking the power button, holding it for longer periods of time...). It usually helps for the tablet being connected to the charger, but it takes a few tries to turn it on. After I managed to turn it on again, for example yesterday, it had 80% of battery left.
I am using CM nighties and this is happening already for some time.
I am also using juice defender, I am not sure if that is relevant.
Do you have any suggestion, what could be the cause of this? Maybe a suggested alternative rom? Or some logs I can check? I think the powering on troubles bother me more than the shutting off overnight since I always think it won't come back on anymore.
Also, not sure if relevant. If I try to turn it on and it doesn't, sometimes the button flashes orange. After a few tries it turns green and powers on. Not sure if I am now not only confusing times, when it was simply out of juice.
P.S. On a different note, just curious, does anyone know how if there is a rom with working mic already?
Thanks in advance.
jkb
Yes, I sometimes have the same issue with the power button - in fact it happened to me this morning where I went from about 60% charge to 16% with a sudden power drop.
Not sure why this happens. I thought it was a bad battery so I changed it but am still getting the problem every now and then.

the only thing that i can think of is that during the middle of the night a soft-reboot happens and it cant boot back up into the system. this would cause it to sit there and continually try to boot up. this would use a lot of cpu and a lot of power. as for why that drains battery while being plugged in, well i cant help you on that.
Thanks for the input. I've wiped dalvik, cache and the system and installed hashcodes AOSP Jelly Bean (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041694) and at least it survived this night without shutting down so maybe this helped. If I come across the same issue, I will update this thread with new info.
Thanks again,
jkb

Sounds like a hardware issue, and Amazon has been replacing those of customers who buy new from them.
Mine has this issue too. I KNOW it has battery power, and is still on, but the screen won't turn on. Only solution is to plug in power, then hold down the power button until it shuts down hard. Then turn back on.
I'm returning mine because of it.
Thanks for the info. I am still hoping this is a software issue.Regrettably I am outside o the US and thus replacing it is nearly impossible. I will see, if the issue returns with the new rom and will update the thread if it happens again, just for your information.

Try going to the WiFi settings and selecting 'never' for keeping WiFi on during sleep. This seemed to work for me.... So far it hasn't happened again.

I think this is the bug I am experiencing:
Shutdown bug stalls out the shutdown. Looks like the device is off, but it's still powered draining battery. Currently requires long power button press to fully shutdown after the screen is black (about 15-20 seconds).
from the 3.4 kernel thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2264563). I am not sure if cm 10.1 nighties contain this kernel, but the description is pretty much spot on.I couldn't test the fix (holding the button for 15-20 seconds), since I already changed roms, but if someone experiences the issue again, he can post if this works and which rom and kernel they are using.
This happens to my Kindle Fire device as well. It just randomly shuts off and it won't come back on until I do a hard shutdown then turn it back on. I currently have AOSP Jelly Bean 4.2.2_r1 on it.

Yes, it happened again to me with the same ROM, but it happens less often. I will try the updated kernel once it is finished.
On May 27, 2013, Hashcode listed the known issues of the current kernel on his website:
Sound / MIC debugging
Deep sleep issues with “omapdss_dpi” device
SmartReflex shutdown loop fix.

[Q] Blue Screen of Death Everynight on CM11M7

This is the weirdest behavior I have ever noted from my device. I am on the LG E975 with CyanogenMod 11 M7 release. I installed it the day it came out and it was working like a charm, no problem.
However, over the last three days I wake up every morning to find that my phone has a blue screen of death on. I am quite groggy at this point, os I haven't ever tried to read the BSOD (I'll try to tomorrow morning). I shut it down and it goes into the bootloader menu, where it asks me to choose between options like, Power Off, Fastboot, Recover Menu ... And then I can power on like nothing ever went wrong. I suppose its relevant to mention that while hitting the bed my phone is usually near a full charge (>75%) but not plugged in.
This hasn't happened during the day at all.
I do not remember installing any new apps over the last 2/3 days and the only thing that is different is that my phone is on roaming (in the same timezone).
I tried having a look a the logcat but I am no mobile device expert and the one I was able to get in the morning only contained logs from the reboot, so no information about the crash itself.. If anyone has any suggestion on how to locate the problem that would be great.
I really want to avoid a complete wipe. Thanks all.

Leave a logcat here so i can help maybe.
Do you undervolt your cpu frequencys ? maybe you do it too much, or maybe overcock too much.
Also is a good idea check your app wakelock, maybe some wakelock is causing this, some app.

Hey,
Can you tell me how to retrieve my logcat? The one I was able to get is from the reboot in the morning.
I haven't ever played around with any sort of overclocking so that can't be it.
Can you also tell me a little more about app wakelock?
Thanks

With this you can get Logcat.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Download wakelock detector from playstore and check how many times and what app are causing wakelocks.
Really without logcat of reboot is very hard to say.
Anyway a hard reset should fix this..

[Q] Phone with CM restarts in airplane mode

Hey guys,
since ~a week I got a heavy-ass problem with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM). I am using the Cyanogenmod Nightly Version cm-11-20150412-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip (bootloader version primemd04; cwm version 6.0.5.1). I know that nightly versions are not really stable and still have a lot of problems, but so far everything didn't went that badly. At least I was able to use the phone...
So last week I put my phone in airplane mode. That was when the disaster started.
Now what happens when I start my phone is, that it starts in airplane mode with wi-fi on and no matter what I do, restarts after ~1min. Sometimes it even shuts down, when starting it in recovery mode.
What I tried so far is:
factory reset ---> most of the time it shuts down halfway done and restarts as if nothing happened.
updating CM ---> restarts as if nothing happened.
I'm really lost right now, but still don't want to give up all hope.
Thanks for every kind of help!!
Cheers,
Lovis
Try to get a legit application that tells you the real CPU temperature like FKUpdater, in case you have franco.Kernel. Then just run heavy tasks on in. If it just ****s doen, might be a problem with the battery. Mine just shutdown on itself just by doing common tasks like calling. Replacing the battery fixed it. Another thing O realized was that if you plug it in the charger and use it was helping it not restart. Try this method. If it restarts then its pretty much a ROM or hardware related problem, if not then a battery problem for sure.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
It has to be some kind of ROM problem. Before I got in airplane mode the phone worked almost perfectly.

G3 randomly turns off for a few hours

Hi XDA,
My friend her G3 randomly shuts down sometimes, and it's impossible to boot it again for a while. After several hours it'll boot again on its own, and it seems like it went into some sort of hibernation since she doesn't have to enter her pin or anything.
Things she tried include removing the battery, holding down the power button for a long duration and charging the phone. Last time this happened the phone was at roughly 30% battery.
Does anyone here maybe have an idea what it could be or what a possible solution would be? It sounds like a very strange and improbably issue to me.
Thanks for reading!

This is due to kernal panic.
Flash stock firmware may be this will fix your problem

Again this is a biasn answer could be kernal panic bad tweak rogue app. Ive even saw one that had a battery crap out on him out of nowhere

From next time i will try to mention all the possible reasons
Thank you straight flashing back stock may be a quick fix most of the time but we dont figure out the cause so we end up in the same boat cause we try to tweak the same tweaks. I dont claim to have the answers and yours could be correct. And i also accept critisism if im wrong

This could be a battery error. Is your battery old or new?. Otherwise it could be a kernel issue which can be caused by under volting or other tweaks within the kernel. If you are on stock ROM with stock kernel the only option is bad battery or hardware issue. Try factory resetting your phone if this doesn't work it is likely to be a hardware issue
