I just tried flashing salvage mod and its gapps and it wouldn't boot either time. I also cleared all cache. Anyone know what I can do?

What ROM were you on before you flashed Salvage Mod? If it was a sense rom, you need to perform a full wipe (data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, boot, system) prior to flashing the new rom. When you said you cleared 'all cache', do you also mean you cleared dalvik cache as well? What recovery are you currently using? I'm on salvage 1.2.1 right now, and I've never had a problem booting it. When you say it won't boot, what does it do? Does it boot loop, or does it hang at the splash screen (white htc evo 4g screen)? The more info the better. I'd basically suggest doing a full wipe though, and try again.

I was on stock rooted before this. I did clear dalvik cache but I need to do a factory reset like you said. Thanks.
I tried that and it's still doing the same thing. It just sits at a lit up black screen. Any other suggestions?

Can you boot into the bootloader? Power off your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text should scroll across the screen and then you will see a few options. One of the options will be recovery. Anyway, at the top of the screen, you should see either S-ON or S-OFF. Hopefully, it displays S-OFF. Anyway, select recovery from the set of options and then, as k2buckley has instructed, go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself. When you're done, do not reboot. Go to the flash menu and flash the rom you want to flash. Do not flash the gapps zip yet. Reboot after flashing the rom. I want to make sure you're able to boot into the homescreen. If you're successful, reboot into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik and then flash the gapps.zip. afterwards, reboot. When you're all setup, go back I to recovery and make a nandroid backup.

also, make sure you got the full ROM, not just the patch for going from 1.2 to 1.2.1. I did that
I was having similar issues, mine went into a boot loop about twice before getting hung up at the initial setup with FCs. I was coming from CM7 Nightly 41 that was acting weird with FC's, I always double wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset. I thought that I might have had a bad download so I re-downloaded, wiped and flashed. I couldn't get past the initial setup so I went back to Ultimate Droid and have been running that for the last 4 days or so with out any major problems except for the Facebook update dicking things up and one random reboot that I had today... I really want to give Salvagemod a shot though since it's Evo-centric.
still not working for me
hey guys... i been trying to boot into salvage mod for the past 2 days... i get it to install just fine i do get the salvage screen up too...
then when the rom is supposed to be loaded up i get the Android dude with emergency call and a crash u keep pressing ok then it goes away and comes back right away... i just wiped everything again and reflashed it and now i am stuck with salvage screen re looping..
any help would be appreciated
thanks
The OP's problem was solved in a second thread by following the below instructions:
Download a fresh copy of both amon RA v2.3 (PC36IMG.zip) and Salvage-Mod 1.2.1 and place both on the root of your SD card. Make sure there is no other file named PC36IMG.zip. on the root of your card. If there is, put that particular file in a folder. Now shutdown your device. Boot into the bootloader screen. The bootloader will automatically detect the PC36IMG.zip file and prompt you to install. Follow the prompts to install. Installation should take less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, reboot into your new recovery. Go to the wipe menu and wipe everything except the SD card. Do not reboot. Go to the flash menu and flash Salvage-Mod. This *should* work.

Glad you got him going Doug. I had asked him to use RA in a PM, and he responded that he liked clockwork and rom manager better, and wouldn't use RA, lol. I'm glad you convinced him otherwise.

You're a genius. I was doing a data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik, but not boot and system. When i did those, it worked. Thanks!
So i just flashed this rom. and everything worked fine including the ring. So after, i flashed diff mods and colors for the acer ring and also the fix (that was updated 6/2/12 i believe?
then after taking some screen shots. a pop up said,
system ui has stopped unexpecticly. or something like that.
and now the botton in the center is gone. So i cant use it at all.
Checked settings and it is enabled.
What should i do to fix? just reflash any acer ring or just the fix. or just flash the hole rom again?

ya. i got it working again.
i get nervous going into recovery to flash something. i already bricked my transformer tf300 last week. but i got it back up and running. i just get scared. I'm gunna do a noob mistake and permently brick one of my devices.
but i didnt wipe anything. i rebooted, but it was still gone, went in settings unchecked, checked acer ring, rebooted again then it was back
btw do you no how to change bookmarks in acer ring. too ur google/ chrome bookmarks instead of the stock ones?
I haven't noticed a way it seems to only show the stock browser, import them into the stock browser should put them on the ring too. Also delete from the stock any you don't want.
Huge edit: forgot to mention, any changes like flashing rings or mods etc. Should be followed by cache and dalvik wipe, and maybe fix permissions. That way old info is wiped so the new info can settle instead of it finding new info where it expects old info...make sense?
Flashing is fine provided you know what you're doing. Don't just do random things and you'll be OK. Only flash for your device, and mods meant for your rom, like the stuff civato posts for his FR rom. Recovery is safe as long as you use common sense and caution. If you don't know what something does, don't use it. Google it or ask, better to wait and know then guess and brick.
Generally always safe to do is wipe cache dalvik fix permissions. No data loss that you see occurs.
Safe if something broke and won't boot BUT you lose apps and settings is wipe data/ factory reset, done with wipe cache and dalvik and maybe fix permissions.
Wiping system wipes out android and you must flash a new rom or restore to boot into the system, and is always done with cache dalvik and data.
I strongly advise against partitioning from recovery if possible. If you must partition your SD card then use a PC tool not recovery. Don't initiate sd-ext wipes directly, if it happens on resets that's fine just don't do it by itself. I only mention this because on my phone we had a string of bricks due to bad recovery mapping and it was nuking our loaders instead. Stick to what I said and you're safe in recovery and flashing. I'm sure others can chime in with more info on this too.

i thanked you for your last post i feel i owe you more thanks than replies you made specifically to me lol. yah i had no idea you had to wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions. when flashing the acer ring. i thought only do that on roms. thats probably why my acer ring was giving me problems. havn't had one problem with it since i wiped.
but just to clarify, do you wipe cache/ dalvik before or after you flash (Acer ring for example) or both?

Either or. Some say before flashing some say after. I do before and after but that's just because of my scripts doing it before I flash (full rom). Something like the ring I flash then wipe cache dalvik fix perms after, so any of the mods etc that are not rom installs. Full rom installs I full wipe before then flash everything then clear cache and dalvik. I only fix perms if I get FCs.

Hi,
I am currently running AOKP build 31... I know there are many more recent builds but I was happy with this one.
I decided to try JB and was trying to wipe the device and I'm facing something strange:
- I tried to wipe the phone (data, cache, even data/factory reset) from the recovery menu and it has no effects at all...
- the first couple of attempts I did not notice that the wipe was not happening and when I tried to find the JB zip file on the phone from the recovery menu, it said "can't mount /sdcard"...
- I tried to trigger the factory reset from the settings menu on the phone and the phone comes back exactly as if I had done a simple reboot...
I'm a bit lost... Am I missing something obvious? I did search and was not able to find something that would look like what I'm facing.
Thanks for your help,

Maybe try Super Wipe Lite? Idk... it might be of use. Just flash it and it should wipe your device (except SD card of course).

Would be interested in testing this, but I seem to have no way to flash anything since when I'm in the recovery menus, when it tries to access the /data or /sdcard folders, it does not find it...
I think I'll have to find a way to get recovery to "see" /data and /sdcard to be able to fix that.
I found a "format system" entry... Just did it... Not too sure where this is going to take me...
I would reflash recovery if I were you. You can do it from fastboot mode using the gnex toolkit

I had tried it earlier today and it did not complete the operation (was blocked at something like "waiting for the device" something).
I have just done it again (after formatting /system) and it worked.
But it still doesn't "see" /sdcard... so I can't load anything...
Now when I enter in fastboot, I see : Fastboot Command Read Error - 21474833647
EDIT - I reflashed Recovery from the toolkit and Fasboot status is now okay... I guess I now need to find an img file and to try to flash it from the toolkit?
I'm stuck here... What would be the next step? I tried to do a Nandroid restore from Gnex Toolkit but when I start it, the main window of the toolkit just vanish and that's it...
Okay, so I used GN Toolkit to reflash entirely the stock config and now I'm installing 4.1. Don't know exactly where things went wrong but I'm now back on tracks, it seems.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, that most probably explains the second problem where the phone was not detected.
But i'm not sure it explains the first problem where there was no access to the /data or /sdcard...

CWM says : E:Can't mount /sdcard
Okay, so now I am trying to get back to my previously backed up ROM, after having tested JB...
And I am back to where I was earlier: CWM can't mount /sdcard...
I must be missing something very obvious but I don't know where to start looking.
I have just wiped entirely the phone, thought that this problem would be gone.
Any hint on what the issue could be?
Thanks,
I might be having a related problem, but it wont even let me go back to the stock rom... it errors out when flashing the stock rom but the recovery flashes a zip already on my internal storage..
My problem is that with JB and now clean CM9 RC1 both of them have problems booting and freeze and reboot during the bootup sequence..
Hi you guys. Im have a bit of trouble whit the CWM. Im stuck in a kind of bootloop after updating to latest CM10. It boots up and i can access my homscreen for like 6-7 sec, but then it reboots to bootscreen.
So i thought i have to wipe my data, get it back to factory state. So i do that, wipes cache to. I have even tried the Mount and storage > format /system /cache and /data.
But when i re-install my rom allmy apps, wallpaper and that, are all where i put them. I can even mange to open some of the apps whitin the 6-7 sec window i have before the phone will reboot. The CWM says it done all things right. No error messages at any time ...
Any one whit an idea to get this back on track ?

OK do what simms22 has explained. That should work.
But from what I am interpreting is that you are doing cache not wipe. So you go to "wipe data/factory reset" menu and hit/press yes. It should wipe it and done. BTW it might have been in a boot loop because you might of dirty flashed or you didn't wipe cache and dalvik cache. That is very important to remember. Never dirty flash and also wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Also did you play with tweaks and such before this was happening. Like voltage or over clock because that could be the problem too.
Dalvik cache and cache are hash signed by the last rom that was flashed. New rom, new hash sign. No need to wipe caches, just data.

Cwm is notorious for failed wipes.
Definitely upgrade to twrp, and if your phone is so messed up twrp can't wipe it, use the android revolution wipe script.

If you're backed up and don't mind losing EVERYTHING, yes, EVERYTHING in /data, then boot into fastboot mode and run
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
from your computer. (Might need root privileges if running on Linux)
Hi guys. I got it to work finally. I didt some tweaking whit the DPI. Maybe that was the cause of the crash ??
But i went to use the Galaxy Nexus toolkit, first of all to flash the other recovery program. But since it dint work either i flashed it whit sock rom, from the same toolkit at started all over. That did work, but hell of a way to go
Hi, phones been running great until yesterday when it started telling me the disk space was nearly full(via es filee xplorer). It then turned off a few times and i turned it on again. The phone would shut off if I tried to do anything like launch the camera app. It now bootloops when i try to turn it on.
I have tried wiping dalvic cache, factory reset, recover from a recovery point i made when i installed the cm13 rom and reinstalling the custom rom like I did the first time using twrp.
The phone did once go into a boot animation of the old boot screen(02 animation), another time it started the miui boot logo but went back to the normal samsung galaxy note 2 boot loop where its stuck at now.
Any suggestions on how i could get it running again? Thanks!

It should use the same procedure as flash stock ROM. I'm not sure because the last time I did it was some years ago.
I have found another way, it'sā a bit hard, but safer
