[NEED TEST] for anyone who use build 10572 - Windows 10 Mobile

i need someone who use build 10572 to test this mod to increase Virtual Memory
need CustomPFD v06 and interop unlock
first check you default Virtual Memory by going to Storage -> internal memory -> system -> Virtual Memory
then go to:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles
change number in value to 512 512 or more
check you storage -> internal memory -> system -> Virtual Memory
does it change to 512 or not ?
if it messed up, im sorry you need to HardReset you Phone to bring default VM back
check my other Thread as well:

yes, me too, build 10581 have bug in storage (cant see internal memory) thats why i need user that still use build 10572 to test it,
btw is it showing that you have low storage even your storage is not low ?

I dont have this error. But i noticed that when i try to change storage preference appear an APLLY buton
Is not involved this trick from above.

Done on build 10586.63 but i have used VCReg instead of CustomPFD i could obtain 1.47GB, have not tried higher values yet

I wonder why this topic is so low. I really think a lot of people would find this mod useful, like myself. I can't even sync candy crush saga (my guilty pleasure ) with facebook. When the edge starts up, the game closes.

This is really useful and yes, should be more commented.
I have done a few test keeping some apps on background even games like GTA SA, Batman, Asphalt 8 and several apps the result when I got back into them is that None of them closed while in the background.

Do you mean after this mod? and what device do you have?
Damn it, I used to have Nokia N900 before this device, I was free... These kind of limitations are so frustrating at least to say.

Thanks for the reply. I really hope something will change and finally we'll be able to adjust virtual memory to our needs and likes. Or maybe Microsoft implements an logarithm that does the job for us, who knows...
First step might be changing the name of this thread to more self-explanatory so that developers get more interested.

You can move pagefile to D:\
Hey guys, try moving the pagefile to D:\, it works for me lol!
Why I did this? I'm having some storage problems on my 535 lol! I can't update to the latest insider build even I uninstalled all apps on C:\ and move everything to D:\ lol!

If it works why you have 0 in virtual memory

The last time I did this, I always got loading and resuming screens even at the lock screen for 2 mins and I had to hard reset.
I had 1gb virtual memory btw.

FIX: T-Mobile 6.5 upgrade issues fixed!!

Found this over on the T-Mobile Site.
I Take No Credit .. But I will Say Amazingly Enough It Does Seem To Work!
I did find that this settings he suggest seems to use less mem and does seem to run 10-20% faster.
I am not sure why .. but its seems that it does .. hope the settings do not have a adverse effect.
Only time will tell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You may have noticed several issues after upgrading to the new T-mobile 6.5. ie... slow response, freezing, crashing, poor battery life, increased memory consumption.
I have made a few adjustments and no longer have any of these issues.
In fact for the last couple of days 6.5 is running better (faster) and the battery is lasting longer than before I did the upgrade.
I am not a trained professional. I do not work for Tmobile, HTC or Microsoft. Follow my advice at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage done to your handset. I suggest you check you memory usage now then again after all steps are completed. Mine went from the 70's - 80's to the 50's
Ok here it is:
1. Make sure you used the official upgrade released on 1/20/10. ( I used the leaked version first then the official release and I did find some differences) Please back up your Phone first!!
2. Download NETCFSetupv35
2a. Sync your phone to your computer
2b. Run NETCFSetupv35 on your computer. If given the option choose repair. Otherwise just install it and follow the prompts.
2c. If given the option restart your phone. Otherwise Soft restart your phone.
3. Download Advanced Configuration Tool
3a. Transfer it from your computer to your sd card.
3b. On your phone use file explorer and navigate to your sd card.
3c. Find the file and double click it
3d. choose install to sd card.
3e. If given the option restart your phone. Otherwise Soft restart your phone again.
4. From the start menu choose advanced config.
4a. You will see a warning screen first. Move past it.
4b Press the + next to Power Management
4c. The first 7 options need to be enabled. ( SD memory, MMC memory, NAND memory,Sim memory,Async, PPTP, L2TP)
4d. One at a time select the item then at the bottom of the screen select enable. (via the drop down menu)
5. Select Done (Bottom left)
6. You will be given the option to restart. Select yes.
7. Enjoy your phone!!
* Advanced configuration Tool can be used to tweak many settings.
I dont suggest you change anything under performance.
I did and the system became unstable again. Changed them back and everything is fine.
-----------------------------------------------------------
This could be the answer to the problem that im having with my batter life... Check out my thread...

I would think it wouldn't matter where ACT was installed, that's why I thought that line was sort of odd. I didn't know if there was some advantage I didn't know about for installing it to SD.
Since it's a program you just run once and forget maybe he wants to keep his phone memory free? I dunno. Just thought that line was odd. I'll be trying it out myself here in a minute

It seems to be running pretty smooth right now but I just soft reset of course. No hickups using the slider, opening mail, or playing with the Album. Memory usage started in the upper 40's and is hovering at 52% right now. I'll give an update later after using through the day.
Since I already had CF3.5 and Advanced Config on my 6.1 (stock) rom, I went ahead and made the same changes listed above, just to see if it had any effect. It's booted up using a little less RAM than before (38% vs 45%...I'd long ago applied the 2 memory management cabs for the TP2)...and it seems to grow a lot slower too; I've got file explorer, IE, WMP, google maps, and windows marketplace all open and running now, and it's still only up to 51% used.
So, bottom line, it might be worth it for anyone still running 6.1 to give this a try as well...you know, assuming that I'm not the only one left here that isn't on 6.5 yet
Update- while closing all the apps I listed above one-by-one, I watched closely and it seemed that the memory is not only reclaimed much faster than before, but it seems like it's (slightly) larger quantities too.

I think so, but it's kinda hard to tell...Opera and Google Maps both seem to snap open a good bit quicker than before, and button-response etc is as quick as ever, if not quicker.
If you want to suggest a stress test (certain apps/conditions), I'll be happy to give it a shot and report back
After about what... 8-9 hours after my soft reset. With my phone I:
-Received 10 emails
-used Opera Mobile to check the Woot Off 6-7 times
-Looked at another 6 web pages for probably about half an hour of browsing
-Used Google Maps and latitute with GPS
-Beejive IM was on for about 2 hours conversing with 2 different people
-15 minutes of phone calls.
Memory is now at 62%. I'd say I'm ususally normally in the 70's and have probably soft reset at least once by now. I don't know if it's *faster* per sey but it seems to hesitate less now. I've gotta give a big thumbs up to this so far. Definitely uses less memory and less battery so far. My battery just ticked down to 50% and I'm normally in the 30-40's by now.
Anyone who's done this:
Were these power settings all disabled (according to Advanced Config) before you enabled them?
Maybe these settings are only an issue on stock roms. I'm running a custom (Valky) rom, and all of these -- except SD card -- already had Power Management enabled for them. Must be a free service included with custom roms...good ones, anyway

stock touch pro2 6.5 rom here. I've used the no push internet and 0 sharememsize resproxy thing and i can say that this tweak doesn't do much.
The ram at startup constantly stays at 43% after reboot and there doesnt seems to be any significant benefit on the performance. Dont know about the battery though, will playbaround with it and report back.
Stock 6.5 t-mobile rom .. all were disabled for me too.
However In My case .. seemed to make a good inprovment

I've never used advanced Config besides instances like this where someone says "Change this setting to xxx".

Have you used these settings-tweaks tools? Both highly recommended.
"Rhodium Settings Tool"
"HD Tweak"
Rhodium Settings is probably better/easier overall...but HD Tweak does a few fixes that Rhodium doesn't.

Low on space - Phone Storage space is getting low

Somehow my space on my phone is very low. I started getting the messages this morning. I wouldn't say that I have a load of applications. No more than I had on my HTC Magic...Is this too much for it to handle?
Here goes;
2010 World Cup
Air Control
AppAware
Astro
Barcode Scanner
BBC News
BeebPlayer
DishPointer Pro
Droidbox Free
Earth
Engadget
F1Android 2010
Facebook
Foursquare
Fring
Gesture Search
Google Sky Map
Hoccer
iGo
KeePassDroid
Listen
Lookout
MapDroyd
Maps
Nimbuzz
Pkt Auctions eBay
Qik
Shareprice
Shazaam
Sky News
Soccer Livescores
Torrent-fu
Twitroid
UK TV Guide
Wave Secure
Zedge
What are my options?
1. Clear cache;
2. Remove some apps;
3. Wait for root + custom ROMs with APPS2SD
I am now wondering ... What is this "cache" ?
Do we really need to clean it periodically?
It would be nice if there is a widget to clean this.
And honestly, I am not impressed with the storage ... 512 RAM seems a lot, but actually it is NOT
I have removed Google earth as it was taking up nearly 22MB which in the grand scheme of things seems to be load of space....
I never understand why they don't a minimum of 1gb internal storage on these devices for apps.

...or just allow for apps to be installed on a memory card from the first place
Seems like that they [Android OS] have realised that without doing so, they will not be able to have storage hungry things such as games to be installed.
36 as I counted, is normal IMO. But yeah, I really hope that you will be able to install applications on your SD card in the future. Not that I want more apps, but I want BETTER apps (which means they will be more MB's). I remember downloading games for the iPod touch that were over 100 MB. They were also off very high quality.
About not allowing installing apps to SD card: I think the reason why it is not allowed is the following.. if you can install something to your SD card, you can easily share it with other over the internet, right? That will mean people will start downloading apps the 'dirty' way! That's the only reason I see.
But Google is very smart and so far keeps giving everybody what they want. I am sure they will find a solution!

When you use apps, it stores some files in memory for quicker access later. Downside of it is that it takes-up space. Normally you would not want to clear cache that often, but if you're running out of space it helps.
Unfortunately you can only clear cache for each app one-by-one, but here's an app that might make the process easier http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.cerisierbleu.qac
You can not store any apps on your memory card!
I did not know this
I have low space as well!
I have a game which is 20MB, i do not want to delete it beacuse it is the best game I have.
Is there no way to put it on your memory card?

No, you can't put apps on memory card until we have root and get to use cool ROMs like CyanogenMod.
Or until Google adds official support for apps2sd, but I can bet you that root will come first.
the reason why google doesnt allow apps etc to be installed on SD cards is because of security of the system, meaning that through this it would be probably easier to root or hack the device and they re working on some kind of encryption for this, and it will be included in the future update,
someone from this forum posted it somewhere here in this section
I also got low memory on my G1 with Apps2sd. That's because every app stores stuff on the internal memory, the browser cache, google maps cache and so on. My experience showed me that these things are the real memory killer.

Google will encrypt that partition of the sdcard so it is secure. IIRC, support for something with the sd card was checked in recently, along with the support for the LED (for the nexus one). I imagine apps2sd is something all android devices will be seeing soon.
Personally, I would be screwed if I couldn't install apps to my sd card on my phone...as stated above, google earth takes up way too much space. Tack on a couple games and a dozen apps? Forget it.

right. does that mean we wont be able to replace the sd cards unless we 'install' some additional files onto it?
and I think if google wont do this pretty quickly, droid might loose a vast amount of clients, because this is one of the reasons why iphone is so popular.

I thought it was due to the fact that the paid apps wouldn't be secure on the sd card, opening the gate further for app piracy and thus they were working on a solution to allow copy protection on the sd card.
I think this issue just turned me off the Desire and now I'm leaning towards the Nexus 1. I like to install plenty of apps so this could be a real issue for me
All android phones are the same, its just a matter of time before its sorted you can still get plenty of apps on, personally i can't see how anyone would need more than 10.

not sure to be honest. I would assume that you will be able to mount your sd card and copy all of the contents off the secured/encrypted partition if your machine recognizes that partition type...then again, maybe you won't be able to.
If you upgrade sd cards, you may have to start all over with installing to the sd card. Good question.

the iphone is popular for lots of reasons; app support being at the top...but I would imagine the viral advertising and the "everyone has it" thing doesn't hurt.
Funnily enough, Android is almost on as many mobile devices as iphoneOS (according to an admob metric report). So the "everyone has it" argument is about to become a moot point.

Solution for lagging when opening applications

AndroidCantral wrote yesterday an article about fine tuning android multi-tasking
about fine tuning android multi-tasking. They show a small tutorial to free some space using a MinFreeManager application.
Application discussion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5529436
I have tried this application in the aggressive preset setting and Galaxy was much faster and snippier with opening applications. It's running now for a day without any problems so far..
You do need root the Galaxy first!
Have anybody else tried this app?
I have been using this task killer.
Thanks for the info. Learn something new.
Will try later after I have completed charging my phone.
that program minfreemanager didnt work on my phone after reboot the file in /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree was not updating.. got the program referenced in the thread called autokiller and that is updating the file on reboot correctly.
getting rid of the lag
Memory management helps (I use autokiller) but what really solved this annoyance
was moving the applications' data to the NAND (see http://android.modaco.com/content/s...298/got-the-stalling-problem-rooted-try-this/)
Its like a completely different device
One caveat is that the size of the NANDs is limited so you better know what you're doing and make sure that your /data/data dir is small enough to fit there
I am nervous about doing this since android is not designed that way. until paul or someone comes up for a fix so you dont have to reinstall os if you go over the limit.

[HELP] How to make Nokia X run faster?

I hope this is the right place to post this. Anyway, some time ago... I softbricked my phone and thanks to you guys, I got it up and working again... also learned how to properly root my phone. Soo today, I come again with another question.
My problem is... my phone is soo freaking slow. I used DU Booster, it would boost, then a few moments later... its back to being slow again. Even if I restart my phone, its still the same. So is there anything I can do to make it faster? I've wanted to play games on it, even simple ones like "Piano Tiles 2" lags like hell. Its annoying to think that my phone cant even run a very simple game. I saw some guides to swapping internal with external memory.. will that make a difference??
or... is nokia x really this slow? and I'm doomed with a slow phone forever? (while Im still using Nokia X that is)
Guess no one wants to help :/ oh well.. thanks anyway
just install ram expander or try swapping method bro....hope it works
swapping huh... well, I heard someone say that it can make your phone slower coz depending on the Card that you use... Reading off the actual internal is faster... well, I'll try :3
and what's RAM Expander?? An app??

No, ram expander exactly works with swap file you have to firstly make partition of your sd card so that your phone use the swap file of partition made by you earlier as ram... So it may help your device to run faster... I didn't tried in nokia phones but you may try if u want.

u have to wait bro. i too soft bricked my device. thats not a porb now. use purify from play store and ram expander. these apps both work together to make ur phone run smoothly. but add purify as a protected app in purify before using it and also uncheck auto-start and block in purify.
DU will only slow your device. Go to these links:

Enabling Dynamic Page File for Speed Boost

Hey guys,
My Lumia 640 was running slow on Windows 10. It seemed like my apps were always closing and taking forever to reload.
The default page file settings regardless of the amount RAM in the phone is locked at 256MB. Where the persistent storage is also flash memory, writing to the page file shouldn't cause any major slowdowns.
I used interop tools and the data located at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms912851(v=winembedded.5).aspx to set the minimum size to 128MB and the maximum size of the page file to 768MB. The results were immediate!
Thinking it was a fluke, I rebooted my phone, and I noticed that it starts much faster now, too! As always, ymmv, but post your results in this thread if it helps!
Additional Info:
1. Setting the location of the page file to anything other than "u:\pagefile.sys" will cause storage sense to display a virtual memory size of 0 MB. To verify that your change worked, enable MTP Root Access in Interop Tools, plug your phone into a pc, and then navigate to the location of the new page file and verify that it was created.
2. Don't set the max size of the page file to be larger than the amount of free space available in the "apps and games" area of the phone. Setting the max limit too close to the amount of free space will cause crashes as the apps will lose "breathing room".
Edit 2:
After playing with this for a while, I discovered that the phone prefers a static page file. The settings that gave me consistently good results without crashing was to move the pagefile to the system partition (c:\pagefile.sys) and to lock it at 512 512. I am on rs1.
There appears to be an rs1 bug that if the memory usage goes beyond a certain number, the phone will become unstable. This is unrelated to the page file adjustment. How do I know? My brand new Alcatel IDOL 4S with Windows 10 gets wonky if I open too many apps. It has 4GB or RAM that is OS limited to 3.5 GB.

That's cuz people are dumb....the trick is to make it dynamic and let the OS resize it as needed. Locking the page file to a static size isn't even recommended by Microsoft, so I'm shocked they do it with Windows phone...
The system partition is also very tiny, so if a large pagefile is desired, the path should be modified from u:\pagefile.sys to u:\Data\pagefile.sys.
U:\ is already mapped to the data partition, so there is no need to change this.
Also, never NEVER move the pagefile to an SD card. That's just asking for trouble....

Lumia 640 XL come by default with 256 256 page size. So ask microsoft why.
@augustinionut I am aware...my new idol comes the same way...i have no idea why they do it....it goes against everything the recommend.... https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/motiba/2015/10/15/page-file-the-definitive-guide/

Hey guys,
My Lumia 640 was running slow on Windows 10. It seemed like my apps were always closing and taking forever to reload.

I keep Facebook on my SD card. For me, Facebook went from not loading at all to loading if I let it sit for a while with this mod.

It will do that for two reasons:
1. You changed the location of the page file to something other than "u:\pagefile.sys". If you change it, the size will stop showing up in storage settings.
2. You set the minimum size of the page file to "0".

No crashes so far.
I've set the pagefile to 128 768. Facebook (internal storage) loads in a snap without Messenger, Messenger (internal storage) loads in a snap without Facebook, but it doesn't work if you have both of them installed. Maybe I'll up the maxmem a bit. Thanks for the info.

Well i have finally succeed to change the page file. After all the struggle i can confirm that Lumia 640 it's more snappy than ever.
Facebook app still loading slow or ending with a crash.(Facebook it's on sdcard, messenger on phone)
I have only one bug with the lock screen display not displaying correctly on wallpaper or not displaying the wallpaper.
I have attached some screenshots. Enjoy !
If you have any question please don't hesitate.
Used Interop Tools RC3 with dependencies.
Renamed "u:\pagefile.sys 256 256" to "u:\pagefile.sys 1024 1024"

UPDATE#1: 512 1024 works fine. I have 2 gigs of internal mem free though.
UPDATE #2: 1024 1536 works fine. Now Facebook and Messenger can coexist on internal storage, and both work fine. Much, much better than before. Happy.
If this is a placebo effect, I don't mind.

Confirmed
When I change the string to 256 768, it shows VM as 0 bytes
Changed it 768 768
Now VM is 597MB
The device feels a little snappier
For anyone else looking on how to do this, I found this article on Windows Central that describes Interop Tools and how to go about using it.
http://www.windowscentral.com/interop-tools-windows-10-mobile
I've got interop tools installed and changing the value doesn't work. It stays the same (256). Any help?
