So after dropping my Nexus 5x on a case i started noticing that there was a slight rattle on the back of the phone so after paying close attention it's coming from the fingerprint scanner. So is it possible that there was adhesive that's broke lose or do they come like that can someone confirm if they have rattling without dropping the phone
Mine has a slight rattle, but it's only noticeable when I put the phone up to my ear and shake it.

Don't worry, I have a rattle also and I haven't dropped this thing yet. My guess is that it's the weight on the vibration motor.
Well at least I know now that it wasn't because I dropped it which was my main concern and thanks for the replies guys
Ive smacked my phone against my car seat a few times while getting out and I feel a springy vibration feeling in it when that happens. Figured it was the vibration motor
Both of mine rattle a little, seems like it's normal.
It has been confirmed by google customer support as well as many threads on reddit and here that the rattle is the spring mechanism in the SIM tray. Push the SIM removal tool into the hole and hold it in with your finger while you shake the phone... you probably won't hear it anymore. Its just something you have to ignore with the peace of mind that nothings actually broken

Hi all,
I have had my DHD for about 2 weeks now and I have just noticed that if I set it down on a hard surface it does make a bit of a plastic-y rattling sound. If I shake the phone it also rattles, but hardly near as much, it is barely audible. Is this something to be concerned about? If it's not going to affect the phone in the long run I would rather just keep it with the rattle but I would like to be sure before doing so. So is this going to cause problems in the long run or is it just a benign niggle?
Thanks in advance
They all do this, and I know what you mean. Nothing to be worried about, I've heard most handheld devices do this, let alone just this phone. The shaking when you put the phone down on the table i most likely just the phone shaking very quickly as you put it down, just because the camera protrudes.

Mine used to, But after dropping it on concrete a few times it doesn't lol
It would be nice if that were it but I get the same noise from tapping on the back, I think it could be something inside the camera that's a bit loose when not being used, it seems to work fine though,so I guess its not a huge issue, just a slight annoywnce.
How are you tapping it? Basically, there is a tiny rattle there, but it isn't prominent. I'd say it's the camera too, but definitely a non-issue.

It's just a tap below the camera with the flat of my finger, it is quite noticeable but only in a very quiet room. I guess I've got two years on the warranty anyway I'll try not to worry
Does anyone else hear or feel a rattle when the phone vibrates when they receive a text message or anything? I absolutely love the phone, but this tiny little quirk is driving me bat-**** crazy. If I have it in my pocket it rattles loud enough that I can actually hear it before I feel it. Easily described as a hollow rattle.
I was thinking of calling Expansys (I received it from someone who bought it there.) and seeing what they say, but I would probably have to ship it back to Europe for any type of Samsung warranty issues.
Let me know what you've experienced, if anything.
No one other than me has experienced this?
I hear the vibrate louder than I have on other phones but idk if its a rattle

My volume rocker is a little loose and it rattles.

I get it too, thought it was because id used volume+ app and had it too loud.

there is no rattle on my phone.
I got the same...and its freakin irritating
Maybe its just an extra loud vibrate then.
Rattle
No Rattle here. I guess you can either:
- Send it back for warranty repair
- Take it apart, find the offending part and tighten things up yourself (risky)
- Live with it.
sorry. For such an expensive device, you'd hope these kind of problems wouldn't happen.
I got it just now after i dropped it not a cratch but this annoying rattle may be enough to bring back to verizon
Mine has slight movement in the volume rocker as well. But its made of plastic and is to be expected from me. Not nearly enough of an issue to irritate me and is a complete nonissue.
*Unless for your phone, when the phone rings and vibrates it goes crazy with the rattle, then i would understand

Here's an update guys...i sent mine to the service centre today and a genius very young chinese boy opened my phone and realised the vibrator was the problem and was not secured on the board well....he rectified it and now my phone's perfect again
Happens on the Nexus S and iPhone 4S. Just part of the motor. Maybe try to take it apart yourself and see what's up.

Yes- my device has just developed this problem after a month of use. I've registered with Samsung and am sending it for a repair tomorrow. I'm really hoping that Samsung don't take issue with the fact that I've rooted my device. I had my nexus one repaird by HTC once and they didn't have an issue with the rooting- so fingers crossed
Just as an update to anyone who is interested- Samsung marked my Galaxy Nexus as 'Repair Complete' and 'Delivery in Progress' on Friday so I'm hoping to receive it tomorrow at my work. Having been updated to this status I can only assume that they did not have a problem with the fact that it was rooted. Quite rightly too as it was a stark hardware issue, but still, it's nice not to have to worry about it!
I bought one GSM Unlocked from Amazon and it rattled like crazy if the phone was at a specific angle. So I returned it and got a new one...which rattles just a bit if I'm not holding it a certain way with my hand over the bottom right side of the phone. So essentially I just switched the vibrate off unless it is for a phone call. I'm over it. Everything else about the phone is perfect so I'm not taking any chances.
Does anybody know if this is normal. The camera if you touch or shake your phone that the camera rattles /shakes seems loose

Yeah that's the auto focus most phones any kind do it

My friend's Optimus G makes a rattling noise as well, but don't know if it's this way on all units. Maybe set up a poll
I remember seeing another thread about this somewhere. Some say its the camera, others say its the volume buttons. Yeah, mine rattles just a little bit.
Not too worried about it. (Calmer than you are)

Just wondering, did you shake it or did you tap it around the camera?
With my friend's Optimus, it seems that it only makes the rattling noise if it's tapped. (that, or knocked against your knuckle) When it's shaken, there's pretty much no sound.

It sounds like it is coming from the earpiece area. However, this could be that it's merely the only passage for the sound to travel through. Either way, mine rattles with a shake, tap, and knock.
I guess I better open it up and see what's going on. Wish me luck. :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Confirmed, it is the camera. It is not seated firmly in the housing. Since it is connected via a ribbon, applying pressure will not fix it. Aside from applying adhesive underneath, I'm not sure there is really anything that can be done about it. However, it does not affect functionality, so the real question is whether anything SHOULD be done about it. It's just annoying.
I was wondering if I should return it or start a thread asking about it.
Ditto. If I tap the back of the phone by the camera, I hear the same thing.

Actually I did both and all kinds of movement and it was tight...Update though now as of the 3rd of December I noticed I now too have the faint little rattle from the camera lens area. I noticed when I cleaned it with my cloth sometimes it goes away for a while like maybe something shifted but it still looks fine and it still seems to take good pics and focuses...I don't know just thought I would throw in an update.
Hey everyone.
I bear sad news that my Nexus 5X which I got 2 days ago appears to have a rattle inside.
Its near the top but holding the buttons, the camera glass, fingerprint, speaker grills, and anything else I could think of still doesn't fix it so it seems to be internal.
I've not had a chance to speak to Google or LG about it yet and Carphone Warehouse (UK retailer) weren't any help online. Speaking to them in store tomorrow so fingers crossed they just replace it.
Does anyone else have this issue?
SOLVED! - I spoke to Google support and they said that the rattling noise comes from the sim tray.
There is a tiny lever which you push with the sim pin to remove the sim tray, and that lever is what rattles against the frame. Providing that your 5X works as it should, that's the rattle.
Thanks guys

Most likely the camera optics which are loose when unpowered. Launch the camera app to energise the camera, does it still rattle? If no or needs more shaking then its normal.

No luck still rattles when the camera is on and needs the same amount of shaking
I have this too. I wonder what it is... should I be worried?
Why are u shaking your phone, and why does it bother you.
So I never noticed this but since you said something I shook mine and I have the same thing.
Meh.. Barely noticeable even when trying to make it happen

I noticed there was a rattling sound when the vibration motor goes off, so I shook it a little to see if anything was lose and now I can't stop hearing it with every notification.
It's not usually something that would bother me but now I know its internal it will

Mine rattles too if I shake it, so have other phones, it's common, first search gave me this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713803
It depends on how the optics are driven for focusing so the rattle could remain, it could be the vibration motor which is a circular motor by the looks of the teardown, so it might free spin when the phone is shaken.
Every smartphone I have ever owned, when I've visited the forums here there are people complaining about rattles when they shake the phone. There are lose parts in these phones as often things need to move freely, i.e. buttons, camera optics, and vibration motors, everything else is so tightly packed in it can not rattle. The only other rattle you might get is a broken off component, and the chances the phone still works with a detached resistor or chip is unlikely, plus you'd hear that moving around.
Honestly it is nothing to worry about. Google "phone rattles" and be assured it's normal.
Regards
Phil

So did they offer to exchange it or no? It's very annoying tbh once you notice it.
I'm not sure exactly what caused my speaker to get to the point where I can barley hear anyone or anything through it. I have to resort to using the speaker phone to have any sort of conversation. Back a few years ago I always had an issue with the ear speakers on multiple phones attracting tiny metal dust or chips due to my line of work in manufacturing, causing it to become muffled and weak. This always resulted in claiming warranty or an insurance claim. But as phones got more resistant to dust, water etc. I haven't really had an issue. I am not sure if this is what caused my pixels speaker to malfunction but it's becoming unbearable to use on a daily basis. Now I could just go ahead and unroot and lock it back up and try to claim manufacturers warranty or worst case an insurance claim. Instead I figured I'd turn to the community and see about the possibility of increasing the volume via build prop to be able to effectively have a conversation, to help avoid going through the replacement process a little longer. Any ideas to overcome this issue are welcome.
Thanks.

All I can say is that I have to move the phone around until the volume increases, the sweet spot for that speaker is pretty small

Same for me. I have a notable hearing deficit and I am constantly positioning the phone for loudness.
