Google Now not working - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I got my Nexus 5X, when I swipe right, the Google Now screen says "Google Now can't be reached at the moment". I went in to settings and turned on all cards, and now I'm not getting that message any more, but I'm not getting anything in Now either, no cards just a white screen. It's working fine on my Nexus 4 and always has. Thoughts?

Google Now notifications missing

Has anyone else had the problem of Google Now notifications going missing? For at least two weeks, the Google Now notification has been absent from my notification tray. I've tried everything I can think of, (clearing data/cache, disbling/re-enabling Google Now, uninstalling updates, deleting all my past reminders, clearing all cards, disabling and re-enabling notification settings both in App Settings and in Google Now) with no results. :frustrated:

I don't remember getting any notification from Google Now, and I've had this phone for a month now. On my old LG G2 I got them all the time. I don't get my Trip Time to work notification anymore, or any of my package tracking notifications. They are there is I own Google Now, but never in the Notification Bar.

Yep, me too. I wonder if the M8 broke the notifications somehow... because I noticed it's also affected my Galaxy Note 8.0.
One thing I suspect (and I hope I'm right) is that either a Google Play Services update or Google Search update has broken it in anticipation of Android 4.4.3, and when we get this update, everything will be magically fixed. It's wishful thinking, but at this point, it's all I've got left. I haven't done a factory reset yet... but I think I might give that a try right now.
I get my "time to work" notifications still, at least on days when it's higher than normal.

Yeah, I get some notifications, but not all the ones I want. It's like I'm only getting "urgent" notifications, and not the "standard" ones I used to. I get reminders, and I crazy storm moved in the other night and a "severe weather" notification showed up.

Moto360 having trouble connecting to Nexus 6?

Anybody else using a moto 360 with their nexus 6 on Verizon?
I am having connectivity problems between the watch and the phone. Sometimes I speak into the watch and Google is thinking, thinking, and then stops. Like it can't reach the phone. Anyone else?
I don't know if this is a Nexus 6 on Verizon, nexus 6 in general, or moto 360 problem.
As I'm reading about this, it seems like this might be not only a Nexus 6 and Moto 360 problem, but an Android Wear/ Lollipop problem. Hopefully if 5.1 comes out soon, it'll fix this.
No issues here since xmas with my 6.
Thanks for the reply. Weird.

This definitely happens to me too. After giving it a command the little circle keeps spinning until it comes back displaying "offline" even though I'm in an area with good reception. Sometimes though it just keeps spinning until I eventually swipe right to dismiss it and try again. Sometimes when trying to get directions from my watch it'll tell me to open Maps on my phone in order to continue.
An issue that persists for me is immediately upon plugging my Nexus 6 into its charger my 360 disconnects. I notice this immediately because the lost phone notification pops up on my watch and it vibrates sporadically. This is an issue that has really puzzled me because I can't tell what it could possibly be related to.
I used to have issues with text notifications not being pushed, but this has stopped happening. From time to time my watch will disconnect from my phone for seemingly no reason, and I'll get a "did you leave your phone?" notification. This happened today even, while I was using my phone. Other times when I walk out of range and then walk back into range it won't automatically reconnect. When this happens I have to open Android Wear, select Disconnect (even though Android wear will display "connecting...) And then Connect, and it'll connect again.
Almost half the time I go to send a text by voice I get the issue the OP mentioned, where the circle keeps spinning and nothing happens, or "offline" is displayed. I would really love a solution to this as sending texts is a core feature of Android Wear, and it totally defeats the purpose of the smart watch if it's supposed to save you from having to pull out your phone.
BTW I have an AT&T Nexus 6

Thanks for all that input. I definitely see the beginning part as being the problem that I am having.
My 360 and Nexus 6 don't seem to have an issue.
Have you tried updating Google Play Services?

Google Now hanging

I'm having some problems using Google voice search and sometimes just searching for stuff. If I do a voice search it will say that it is recognizing and just stay like that for a while. I always just exit it before it even completes. Also if I just do a search from the keyboard, the blue loading bar will just hang about a quarter of the way. Probably less than a quarter away. Sometimes I notice that when swiping to the Google now screen it says sign in error. But even when that isn't showing the search will hang sometimes.

I've been having the same issue for a week or so. Nexus 5x also.
Same issues for more than a month, Nexus 5X, already tried, clear cache, uninstalling updates for google now, deleting gmail account, nothing works, issue is totally random, forgot to mention that I'm running stock Android 6.0.1
same here. 90% of reminder notifications never appear too. Now needs updating.
Every day is getting worse! did you guys find a solution?
Haven't noticed lag or stalls with Google Now for me.

option to remove apps from home screen

Hey All,
I just got the phone in from amazon sale for $117 and after arriving dead battery I charged it overnight. It went ahead and updated itself multiple times and now finally I think it is done at 7.1.1 android
What my issue is ... when I long press on the icons on the home screen, I don't get the option to remove them.. only the option to see "app info"
Is this an issue of the robin ui/overlay/whatever? or is there something i'm doing wrong in android?
if it makes any difference, i'm not signed into a google account, i haven't put a sim in it, and i'm just running it on wifi
Get an after-market launcher. Nextbits launcher doesn't allow you to remove apps from the home-screen

Huawei Mate 20 X (Chinese version): Not getting notifications on mobile data

So today after weeks of waiting my brand new Huawei Mate 20 X finally arrived.
Went through the initial phone setup and installed an APK of Google Play, no dramas so far.
Installed all the usual apps, Facebook, Messenger (which only half works, but that's another story), my banking apps etc.
Had absolutely no issues whatsoever, was receiving notifications normally, in fact I would say I was getting notifications quicker on Wi-Fi on this phone than what I was on my old Google Pixel.
Went out for a drive, didn't receive a single notification for about 20 minutes, decided to check Facebook and all of a sudden 5 or so notifications pop up at once, having owned a Huawei before I instantly figured out that it was probably a battery optimisation issue, went and checked the settings, battery optimisation was turned off by default which I was surprised by, so then I went into the applications menu and made sure that all of my apps like Facebook had priority, apparently on the new version of EMUI there is no such thing as a 'priority application'.
Got home and connected back to WiFi and it started working perfectly again, just to make sure it wasn't something I did I went back out for another drive and once again my notification stopped working.
Went through all of my data settings, turned 'data always on' on through the developer's menu, I've done pretty much everything I can think of doing.
Just to confirm that it was actually a software issue I downloaded a push notifications tester through the Play Store, and as I expected that confirmed that I wasn't getting notifications through my data.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all?
Apart from that it's been probably the perfect phone, I don't want to have to return it purely based on one small but yet massively inconvenient issue.

Try: Settings/Apps & Notifications/Permissions (This based on Android 8.0 on a Huawei Honor Note 8) this would be another reason, if you dont trust the phone it would stop this as well.
notifications issues
you know more abou the notification issues? how to resolve?
Go into Notifications, More notification settings, smart notifications, Auto-update and change to "all networks", see if that fixes your problem(s).

I just tried this I'm going to see if it works.
Did it work?
Please try the following methods:
1)Make sure the SIM card is inserted. Setttings---Battery---- Click the gear button on the upper right corner--- switch on “Stay connected when device sleeps”.
2) Settings---Notifications----More notification settings---turn off "Smart notifications"

Go into settings - battery - more battery settings and toggle on the option that says "stay connected when device sleeps". This fixed all my delayed notifications on Gmail and WhatsApp
