option to remove apps from home screen - Nextbit Robin

Hey All,
I just got the phone in from amazon sale for $117 and after arriving dead battery I charged it overnight. It went ahead and updated itself multiple times and now finally I think it is done at 7.1.1 android
What my issue is ... when I long press on the icons on the home screen, I don't get the option to remove them.. only the option to see "app info"
Is this an issue of the robin ui/overlay/whatever? or is there something i'm doing wrong in android?
if it makes any difference, i'm not signed into a google account, i haven't put a sim in it, and i'm just running it on wifi

Get an after-market launcher. Nextbits launcher doesn't allow you to remove apps from the home-screen

[Q] Question on deleting shortcuts or apps from home page

I did some work on one of the 2 non rooted units that I have and installed the Llama options for "sleep mode" where the unit boots to XBMC when turned on, goes to sleep after 20 minutes and if yo hit the home button it still takes you back to the FTV home page but with no activity for 15 seconds it goes to sleep again. If you hit the OK button it wakes back up in XBMC. What a great setup for a non rooted unit. Kudos to the Kodi.wikki site for the information and way to do it.
Long story short, I took my second unit and did a factory restore on it to set it up the same way. All went well, but I notice that now up at the top of the home page where the recently view items are, all of the original shortcuts are gone...Netflix, Youtube, Classic TV...... 14 or so of them in all and in thier palce now are two or three info videos including the original one you have to sit through to even get the unit working and two more new ones as well as a shortcut to Prime TV.
My question is.....is ther anyway to delete these videos and get them off my unit. They simply taKe up space and after having to watch that first one at least a dozen time now I don't even want to see a shortcut to it!!
Someone please say there's an easy way to delete them and tell me how.....
Thanks!
PS... I noticed other several subtle changes in the layout even though my firmware didn't change. I can't explain how it happened, but another change is when you go to settings, applications and manage all applications. The window with all of the installed aps used to open up to the right of the main app screen.....now it opens to the left of the main screen. Again, no big deal, but something did change today after resetting the unit and I just set it up for the first time several days ago....it's now different. I just want to eliminate those instructional video shortcuts though!

[Q] How do I prevent the SAME notifications from constantly showing up?

So I did a bunch of searching and either I am in the wrong place, or no one else seems to have this problem, but I am seeing the same notifications showing up on my Moto 360 over and over even after I dismiss them. For example, I will get the Google Now scores for sports events (some for teams I couldn't care less about) popping up over and over and over again even after I swipe them away. They are not even real notifications on my phone - so not sure why they are popping up in the first place. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
You have to go into Google Now on your phone and configure the card settings there. Should be options to no longer see cards you're not interested in, or tweak their content. Otherwise it will periodically update phone & watch with cards - this is just how the service works.
Personally I leave it turned off completely as the benefits are meagre vs demands it makes on phone & watch power. There are more efficient ways of keeping yourself updated on the info you need when you need it, IMHO.

Thanks for the reply. So even if I dismiss the notification on the watch, and there is NO notification in the notification tray on the phone, it is expected that I still constantly receive card notifications on the watch? That seems broken to me...

Ok, I got that, but again, my problem is not that the initial notification shows up, it's that once I swipe it away it keeps coming back. I suppose that's an issue with Google Now though and not the watch.
You are not alone.
I'm having the same issue.
Moto 360 4.4W.2 - Wear Mini Launcher
Moto X (2013) 4.4.4 - Google Now Launcher.
I'm almost certain that those launchers are doing it. Days ago I had a friends's birthday notification poping over and over again, it would back to my watch face in like 5s after I had it dismissed, when i remove wear mini launcher all that stoped.
Today I installed it again, just for sake of testing, since is a very helpful software. The problem started again, but now with a amazon delivery notification, so im uninstalling it.

Sorry to rehash an old topic, but I'm having the same issue..
The card in question is to do with sport, and I do want to see the card so turning off isn't an option, but when I swipe it away I don't want it to come back!
Anyone found a solution?

Nope, it's the way Google Now does sport cards -- if a game is in progress, it sends you constant updates. Even if you swipe the update away, the next time anything changes, it'll just reappear, until the game / match is over (once you swipe away the card for a completed game it stays away, for me). I wish Now was more customizable.

I don't mind if the game is still on, that makes complete sense, this is after the game...

Actually having exactly the same problem and it is specifically with sports cards. LG G3 (Verizon) 5.1 and G Watch R. I'll swipe a sports card away (last game score, next game time, etc.) and it will be back within a few minutes. Very irritating.

[Q] Need help restoring lock screen ads...

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help as rerooting and/or even backing up my data is not an option with my computer out of commission. I'm on a rooted Kindle Fire HD (the original one from 2012; this thing's so old it's got burn in problems on the screen) with firmware 8.4.3 and seem to have accidentally broken the lock screen ads. I want them back, as the placeholder is ugly and I'm one of those people who like them. Here's what happened:
Yesterday, the calendar app icon in my favorites menu (which I use as a quick way to see the date while in an app) turned into a corrupted-looking grey blob. Being sick and not thinking logically, I freaked out thinking the glitch was permanent and googled ways to fix it. One site said to go to the app manager and clear data and cache of the app called Launcher...
Not only did that not work, but suddenly my kindle went through the registration screen! But, thankfully, it already knew who I was ('this kindle is registered to [My Name], is that correct' or somesuch). It then gave me the tutorial screen like when you first register a kindle... But after that went right to my home screen with everything still set up and installed. I lost zero data that I know of and only a handful of settings-- most notably the one to turn off 'customers also bought...' on the home screen. All I had to do was set that again and it took effect. Today, at midnight, the icon for the calendar came back since it changed to display the new date. But I've got another problem I can't seem to solve.
Now, my lock screen takes a moment too long (usually no more than a second or two, thankfully, but sometimes a mini eternity) to come on, and when it does it has a generic, ugly image that says to verify my kindle is registered and connected to wifi. It is both registered and connected-- in fact, I'm using it right now to type this. I want the special offers back, but it still hasn't downloaded new ones or shown any indication that it can anymore.
I checked, and there were no system/assets and system/.assets folders, which i know are related to lock screen ad removal hacks. I added back empty folders with those names using ES File Explorer, rebooted the tablet, but it's been eight hours so far and no change. Could someone help me restore the lock screen ads? Maybe provide the relevant files/folders to put in assets if that would help and not carry a notable risk of bricking?

Home and recents buttons not working

A very strange thing happens to me today.
My Pixel XL 128 (never rooted, with bootloader locked and running the lastest official Oreo) suffered a soft reboot when I clicked a YouTube link in the notification shade. After that, I ended up with home and recent buttons, not performing their actions. They still vibrated and the Home button kept the animation. The status bar did not showed notifications, even when they arrived (notification sounds continue to ring), and notification shade pulldown stops working. No mobile network either.
Has anyone else faced this thing?
I had to factory reset (through settings) to use my phone again.
The exact same thing happened to me today. I too am not rooted, all oem, 128gb too, have phone since January, upgraded to oreo several days ago.
Today, I was about to open an email from the notification shade, then the phone rebooted itself on its own, now after the reboot I am limited and can only use the back button. Home and Recents buttons are registering my touch (they both vibrate when I press them) but they don't do their jobs. And what's also strange is that before this happening I had 'vibrate on touch' off. Furthermore, I also can't bring down the notification shade past the first step where it shows the quick settings icons, and notifications no longer show up in the notification shade - it's always clear at the top. When I go into settings>developer options, it says 'this user has no developer options (something like that).
I went to Google's support chat via phone and they couldn't help me either, the same behavior in safe mode, only back button works. I asked support if they could help me troubleshoot the problem without having to do a factory reset and they ended up going down that street and said it's the only thing they could recommend to do.
Any recommendations?
Yep same thing has happened with me as well. I didn't factory reset but I did have to do a reboot for my buttons to work again. Also I get a lot of reboots when I'm using PiP for about 5 mins.

Exact same symptoms for me on a Nexus 6P with Oreo.
Same happened to me. Stock Pixel XL, 128GB, Oreo. Even applied the latest September update but no dice.
Do the "Nova Launcher" fix.
1. Install Nova Launcer. nb. Play Store not installing anything for me, so downloaded the apk with Chrome (google for Nova Launcher.apk).
2. Allowed from unknown Sources
3. Opened Nova from App drawer (or can set as default launcher).
4. Hold down on empty space -> Widgets -> scroll the bar across to Activities. Hold down and drag onto home screen somewhere.
5. Scroll down to Setup Wizard and hold down on "SetupWizardUpgradeActivity".
6. Complete the setup options and candy!

Interesting. That's fixed the UI issues in their entirety, and Developer Options are now available again too. And apps are once again downloading and installing/updating from Google Play. I wonder what on Earth got wedged and how? Bizarre.
Thanks again.
I got the same with my stock XL 128 seemed to just happen for no reason, after messing around with none of the bottom buttons working the square changed to two rectangles on top of each other as the screen went split screen again for no reason after that I could press the "recent" now split screen button to get the options up to select what I wanted on the second half of the screen when I canceled out of that everything was normal.
seems to be a problem with the picture in picture or the split screen, I don't know how I got into it or out of it but just messing around eventually did it for me. it did have me worried at first as at the time I was in google maps and couldn't get out or even use google maps, the bottom buttons reacted as if they worked but ultimately did nothing until the recent button changed.

Apparently it thinks initial setup is running (or maybe it is in background). During setup it stops you from pressing home, or switching apps, or doing anything of significance. I guess running the setup to completion clears that flag.

Same here: Needed reboot to get "recent apps" button working (although it did "light up" when i used it).
THANK YOU!
I've had a lot of Google phones issues lately and woke up to this and was getting ready to be annoyed all day. Super easy fix as I run Nova Full anyway!
Saviour
You my friend are amazing. Google were absolutely useless, this fixed the problem and introduced me to Nova, double bonus
Thank you - Just the solution that I was looking for.
Thank you! I registered at xdadevelopers just to say that. I too did not want to do a factory reset and the change User to Guest option was not available. I also tried the enable screen lock to Pattern and rebooted.
Going to Nova Launcher and following your instructions to a T fixed the issue.
Grateful for your effort and time.

Hi, I've tried downloading Nova and Nova Prime, so desperate with this issue, I paid for it. Of course, it won't download, when I hit install, I get "install pending" or "downloading" this is going on for 4 days now. Please help!!!!
had my screen freeze again today with it being non responsive, it seems to be every time I leave chrome open and chuck it in my pocket, forcing the phone off and turning it back on fixed the problem this time, no clue what is going on with it as it only seems to happen with chrome.
You need to download the apk file through chrome, not through the google play store.
I have to say, thank you for posting that solution! I had this exact thing happen to my phone today, no idea why, but it sure was annoying!
All the same stuff happened to my Pixel XL original. Even lost "ok Google" spoken activation of assistant, and the night light failed to operate even though turned on in settings. Followed Google's advise and did the factory reset. Worked for about 3 days then bang, soft rebooted on its own while switching apps, and then all problems returned. Had the phone for just 6 months so Verizon sent me a replacement. Will see if it holds up. I told Verizon that if it fails again I want a Pixel 2!!!

Huawei Mate 20 X (Chinese version): Not getting notifications on mobile data

So today after weeks of waiting my brand new Huawei Mate 20 X finally arrived.
Went through the initial phone setup and installed an APK of Google Play, no dramas so far.
Installed all the usual apps, Facebook, Messenger (which only half works, but that's another story), my banking apps etc.
Had absolutely no issues whatsoever, was receiving notifications normally, in fact I would say I was getting notifications quicker on Wi-Fi on this phone than what I was on my old Google Pixel.
Went out for a drive, didn't receive a single notification for about 20 minutes, decided to check Facebook and all of a sudden 5 or so notifications pop up at once, having owned a Huawei before I instantly figured out that it was probably a battery optimisation issue, went and checked the settings, battery optimisation was turned off by default which I was surprised by, so then I went into the applications menu and made sure that all of my apps like Facebook had priority, apparently on the new version of EMUI there is no such thing as a 'priority application'.
Got home and connected back to WiFi and it started working perfectly again, just to make sure it wasn't something I did I went back out for another drive and once again my notification stopped working.
Went through all of my data settings, turned 'data always on' on through the developer's menu, I've done pretty much everything I can think of doing.
Just to confirm that it was actually a software issue I downloaded a push notifications tester through the Play Store, and as I expected that confirmed that I wasn't getting notifications through my data.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all?
Apart from that it's been probably the perfect phone, I don't want to have to return it purely based on one small but yet massively inconvenient issue.

Try: Settings/Apps & Notifications/Permissions (This based on Android 8.0 on a Huawei Honor Note 8) this would be another reason, if you dont trust the phone it would stop this as well.
notifications issues
you know more abou the notification issues? how to resolve?
Go into Notifications, More notification settings, smart notifications, Auto-update and change to "all networks", see if that fixes your problem(s).

I just tried this I'm going to see if it works.
Did it work?
Please try the following methods:
1)Make sure the SIM card is inserted. Setttings---Battery---- Click the gear button on the upper right corner--- switch on “Stay connected when device sleeps”.
2) Settings---Notifications----More notification settings---turn off "Smart notifications"

Go into settings - battery - more battery settings and toggle on the option that says "stay connected when device sleeps". This fixed all my delayed notifications on Gmail and WhatsApp
