Yes I'm trying to get my Kindle Fire to use ice cream sandwhich or anything better for that matter, so I assume I'm going to have to jailbreak/mod the Kindle. Quite frankly I want to do that anyway, but I'm new to all this. Can someone point me in the right direction to possibly find a guide that would help me get this accomplished? Preferably a good guide that's easier to understand. Like I said, I'm new to all this. If anyone can help me I would be much obliged. Thanks

So I'd very much like to root my phone. The problem is, I don't know where to start. I've been reading on how to do it, but I see all this lingo that I don't understand. I don't know what an Hboot is, or a fast boot or an RUU, or anything like that. Those are just letters to me. Do I start with s-off or what? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Found the noob corner.

Yeah man. That would be greatly appreciated. But I could probably save you the trouble. I'm running 2.3.4 Gingerbread. And I guess the only way I can root it is with an xpt clip? I think that's what its called. But, if you know something I don't (VERY likely) I'd very much like the info.

The problem is......well its everything. But, I don't know what I'm running. I don't know what Linux is. I feel like I'm walking in circles. Everyone's talking in code or something. Lol I need lamens terms.

I think before you do anything, you should just read this forum for a week. Try to make yourself familiar with the words and what they mean, what root does for you, and so you don't completely destroy your phone.
I felt the same way as you when I wanted to root my phone, but I read and read and read. After I did all that reading, I read some more. THEN, I was finally ready to root.
It really is a very easy process once you get going though.

It's not code.. If you want to see code, decompile an application lol. I suggest just doing to research, the tutorials are VERY straight forward. And if you don;t understand what the directions are saying, get on an IIRC chat, or wait for knipp to help you. Root isn't worth bricking your phone.

Linux is an (awesome) OS alternative to Windows or OSX. A good beginner distribution is Ubuntu 11.10. Don't get overwhelmed- it sounds like you have some research to do. We all start somewhere, and google is your friend There's a lot of helpful people here who don't mind n00b questions, so learn as much as you can, then ask people anything you still can't figure out. (myself included)
Overwhelmed is definitely the right term. As for the OS, are you referring to the computer or phone? And I appreciate the help.

Well, Linux can be run on a lot of things. I was referring to the computer OS, but Android itself is built on linux too. That's why a lot of people develop with desktop linux. Check out Ox's noob corner sticky in the general section, and read through the posts- there are a lot of terms explained.
Sorry for my impatience, but I haven't seen ANYTHING on the dev page or questions... This is something a LOT of us would like, even though a lot of our attention is going towards the Kindle Fire HD. Thanks!
when, i might ask?
Devices:
Kindle Fire with AlienDroid primary and Modaco secondary

When he gets it done. It is really rude to ask for ETAs when the Devs have life's just like you and I, maybe they just don't want to spend all their days working on it. And a lot of devs do this part-time I'm between their actual work hours
so Hashcode will have it done when he gets done
Alright, Please forgive me for not being caught up on my Kindle Fire news.
Someone asked me the other day if they should buy one. Specifically this:
www[.]amazon[.]com/dp/B0083Q04IQ/
I have rooted and ROM'd a couple friends' Kindle Fires for them, but this was before Amazon released the latest round of new Kindle devices.
Does Hashcode's CM 10 ROM and Kernel work with this device?
Tell them to save their money. No Hashcodes will not work on this device. Development for this device can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1789 .

Bummer, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info.
Ya it`s not really worth it IMO.
Not when you can get a Nexus 7 for $40 more.
Serious I know and it will root nice, lots of custom roms and no lockscreen adds arghh.
Is this possible, a port? I know The kf2 has higher everything, but I used my friend's KF2 and I liked it a lot!
You mean the Kindle Fire hd?
I know that it's running Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich while the original fire runs Android 2.3 gingerbread. If you wanted to flash an ics ROM on to your fire it's pretty easy and there are plenty to choose from here on the forum. I don't know if someone has made a specific ROM to look like the KFHD but I would advise looking around in the android development section. Good Luck! :good:
I meant the refurbed new one. Maybe I could port it.
Sent from a bird... No, a plane... Wait, It's a Kindle Fire!
I doubt anyone will work on it.... Your beset bet would possibly be to discuss it with ichigo
1st. Unplug your Kindle from your USB port now! You haven't read enough yet!
But seriously..
Know what ver of Kindle Fire you own before you start. Is it a Kindle Fire, a Kindle Fire HD, a Kindle Fire 2? Its important. They're different. You'll fail to mod your KF and make a paper weight quickly.
Read the posted instructions. Read em again. Go make a cup of coffee and come back and read them again.
Search through the threads for bits of wisdom. Read the threads you dont think you need to read, you'll find something usefull.
Be prepared, you can do it right and still have something go wrong. Get a factory cable. It will come in handy when you brick your KF. Dont think it can't happpen to you. These forums are full of people needing help with soft and hard bricks.
Dont rush, and dont work distracted. Typos are not your friends when you're working from a terminal prompt.
If you're not sure, ask before you try something. There are some very very cool people here who will help you. Some will even walk you through it on the IRC channel if need be.
If anything I've said sems vague or unclear or less than detailed, it's because you haven't read enough. I can't over state just how important reading everything over & over again is.
Oh, and lastly dont forget to have fun. It should be fun. (bet you thought I ws gonna say read again, didnt you?)
Clean this up a bit. Add some info on how people can know which kindle they have.... After that, this should be a sticky.

..speaking of those oh so very cool people.
Thank you for your kind remarks.
I'll do as you suggest when I get home tonight. :good:
.. And i appreciate your compliment, good sir.
I do the best i can, but we've got some real gurus lurking around here. Kf2 is a small community but the work done by so few is appreciated by many.

the first thing people should have before doing anything is a fastboot cable and having adb drivers installed, and when you are going to install second bootloader read all (and read it 2 times or more) because you can brick your tablet forever (or not) so Forewarned is forearmed

Excellent. May I suggest talking to Prokennexusa, who's done a bunch of Noob-flavored tutorials on XDA?
