1st. Unplug your Kindle from your USB port now! You haven't read enough yet!
But seriously..
Know what ver of Kindle Fire you own before you start. Is it a Kindle Fire, a Kindle Fire HD, a Kindle Fire 2? Its important. They're different. You'll fail to mod your KF and make a paper weight quickly.
Read the posted instructions. Read em again. Go make a cup of coffee and come back and read them again.
Search through the threads for bits of wisdom. Read the threads you dont think you need to read, you'll find something usefull.
Be prepared, you can do it right and still have something go wrong. Get a factory cable. It will come in handy when you brick your KF. Dont think it can't happpen to you. These forums are full of people needing help with soft and hard bricks.
Dont rush, and dont work distracted. Typos are not your friends when you're working from a terminal prompt.
If you're not sure, ask before you try something. There are some very very cool people here who will help you. Some will even walk you through it on the IRC channel if need be.
If anything I've said sems vague or unclear or less than detailed, it's because you haven't read enough. I can't over state just how important reading everything over & over again is.
Oh, and lastly dont forget to have fun. It should be fun. (bet you thought I ws gonna say read again, didnt you?)
Clean this up a bit. Add some info on how people can know which kindle they have.... After that, this should be a sticky.

..speaking of those oh so very cool people.
Thank you for your kind remarks.
I'll do as you suggest when I get home tonight. :good:
.. And i appreciate your compliment, good sir.
I do the best i can, but we've got some real gurus lurking around here. Kf2 is a small community but the work done by so few is appreciated by many.

the first thing people should have before doing anything is a fastboot cable and having adb drivers installed, and when you are going to install second bootloader read all (and read it 2 times or more) because you can brick your tablet forever (or not) so Forewarned is forearmed

Excellent. May I suggest talking to Prokennexusa, who's done a bunch of Noob-flavored tutorials on XDA?

ok, i dont have the patience to go back to all those topics to find out what the best software is out there to install on my blue angel.
I need to know good software that I can use. LIke utilities and games etc. I still have the original 2 games installed which are immensely boring now.
Any other software that would make my PDA the envy of everyone else?
Anyone tried to make this into a TV remote? Did that work?
Do tell.
Hello.
I really think you'd better go f** yourself rather than posting this kind of ungrateful and rude questions.
i dissagree with both previous replies here 1) USE SEARCH (if you can't be bothered to search for it, we can't be bothered to tell you)
and 2) thats not a very civil way (and a Bit OTT) to react.
you guys are hilarious.
Rude? heh
Ok, lets give this discussion another angle.
What software have you guys recently used that you really like?
Whats hot?
Go fishing in the Handango River. There's bound to be some software you like there.
You did, after all, say "blue angle"
many apologies hehe... i stand corrected. Wont attempt to be so rude again.
Let me go hunt some software and their cracks now. muahahaha
STOP RUSHING ME AND LET ME DO WHAT I NEED TO DO. I have school you know. This is my last full week that I have to see my friends and other things like that, then it's off to exams. If you were on my end, You'd see how busy I am. AND if he had a facebook, I hacked my friend's KIN as well. So guys please stop rushing me. It is starting to make me mad. Ever since I had said something you guys have been up my @ßß. If you wish not to end up in the current state I'm on (which is possibly a brick waiting for a phone to come tomorrow) then I suggest you wait. @johnkussiack, please come in feel free to comment leave your opinions but tell these guys how hard it is to hack a phone successfully. I would hate to see you guys end up with a brick, and I would feel responsible. Let me do what needs to be done. I'll upload screenshots and what I've done, Give me time.
All the best,
Kinuser1
(Tyler Jones)
just upload the guide honestly & let the users choose for themselves weather or not they want a brick. I got a year warranty so I will return it till im blue in the face. What did you expect when you first stated that you found a way into the Kin & made the announcement?
I mean come on Yes We know you had a death in your family and stated that it would take you a week to write a simple guide. The problem I see is this you spoke up first & then you expect people to wait patiently which in all seriousness no offense was a stupid thought in your head because its not going to happen.
All Im waiting for is the guide once thats in place I will choose for myself weather or not I will chance a brick to hack or screw around in my phone. No offense but its the truth. I wouldnt of said anything till I had a guide or the time personally.
Kid, (way older), i'm not playing devil's advocate here.
While it's true that hacking something is complicated, I'm with 4LC4PON3 this time. Being a big thing (or not), you cannot shout it to the winds and then go back to a cave.
Test it, do it, ensure it, then tell.
My app could be released atm, but of course would do crap things, yet i assured that it works even if i press Conn+Disconn 30 times. Ever post without being sure of what you do and what will you do next.
To be truthful with you guys, the screenshot was a fake, EXCEPT THE RECENT BOX AND TIME BOX, I edited those so they shade until you click them. I wanted you guys to lay off me for awhile. But I promise, I did not pull your chain guys, I hate when people do that, trust me, I had the enV touch and someone said they had android on the phone but it was a fake. The guy took a picture from google and pasted on the phone. So I left the facebook group because people were flaming me. Well guys later.

Here i stopped having any interest. As i told ya, post or don't post, but no teasers.
You can do small things, you can asure people that you got access to the phone, you can say that you did but you dont know what to do with it.
But never.... ever!! fake things. Now every post that you text, every image that you upload... will have the "Suspicius fake?" mark above it, even if this time is real.
Also, you were flamed in the group with reasons. You posted in a cocky mood about "recording your face when you see it", and then you say that some pictures were fake. That's flame fuel.
PS: btw, my nick doesnt have any "i" character. It's like the actor, but with "K". Just cause i saw it twice by now.
My problem is this. Like I said I understood you had a death in your family but you have a cocky attitude for one got on my nerves, You Faked the photo which I already had doubts on anyways.
What got me is this you said that you have been having problems with your phone for sometime now even before you started hacking into it. Then all of a sudden your phone doesnt turn on correctly you blamed it on the "So Called Hacks"
Prior to this you made a statement that you didnt want help because you didnt want people "stealing your work"
If you do have access to the phone put up the guide even if you did screw your phone up Ok but you cant claim something then never do it. We are Adults here not children it is our choice weather or not we want to attempt the job or not. There are smart users here that you & we can benefit from to get it done faster.
It doesnt take that long to write a simple guide. Either in my opinion A You are just B.S & trying to make yourself sound important or Your just lazy & cant write a 30 minute Tutorial.
Side Note You stated on Facebook when I got mad you said Do you want me to make a video showing proof?. If you can take time to make a video you can easily make time to write the tutorial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gblaKaQ_2Qc
Watch then leave me be and start getting busy.
Sigh... This last post is an offense to all of us who have a real bricked kin.
It is not bricked like I said, IT IS BROKE
EDIT
I'm actually not sure if it is bricked because it wont turn on

Wow. some people here need to CALM DOWN. Give the guy a break. If he is in possession of useful information, name calling and what not is not going to help. If he isn't, name calling and what not is not going to help. While I think it would reflect poorly on him if he has been falsely leading people on, I for one take any 'breaking' news here with a grain of salt. I'll believe it when I see the proof, and until then, I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it.
I'm somewhat hopeful for what JohnKussack's discoveries may hold, and mainly because he has actually been able to demonstrate what he has discovered.

Hi there everyone, my name is Alex and I just got my first smartphone ever, an Samsung Galaxy S2 and I would be grateful if someone could help take it to another level. Root, optimize, enchance it's "power", so on and so forth. I will really appreciate all of your help. I just heard of you guys from a friend, and believe me when I say "I AM NOOB!!" I don't know anything about rooting/ unlocking/ jailbreak/ etc.
Please leave me a message.
With deep sympathy and respect,
Alex.
what version of the GS2 do you have?
there are different forums for some different variants here on XDA. Once you identify which version you have, you can go to that forum and sniff around. read as much as you can, and you'll figure everything out pretty easily
You should start by finding and posting at the CORRECT section. I'm very sure that all sections have their own guide on rooting and flashing.
Devices are kinda like cars... if it is your first.. spend some time exploring what it can do already before you get into making it do more. Then, when you know your way around a bit... dig in!

Very well said my friend
If this is your very first Android phone (nice choice by the way!), you'll want to spend at least some time familiarising yourself with Android and its workings before plunging into anything here. Some of the stuff available here for the GS2 is incredible, but it can also land you in a lot of hot water if you don't understand what you are doing before you try things.
Take your time and enjoy it 'stock' for a while. Learn what rooting is/does, pick a couple of 'favourite' custom ROMs, and read through their threads (entirely) before doing anything. This will give you a good awareness of what to expect as far as bugs and hiccups are concerned, and how others have got around them or fixed them.
This is a fantastic community, full of fantastic Development. Make sure you stick to the rules, post in the right places, and if in doubt... read!
Enjoy, and welcome to XDA
So many ROM threads exploding with people who flashed their way into a whole bunch of trouble, and don't know how to get out of it.
Hopefully these predicaments are the inspiration many need to learn basic ADB commands after installing the requisite programs/drivers on their cpu. The trouble could have been avoided in the first place by not blindly flashing without reading the well documented issues they may encounter.
1. Read the thread,
2. Read the stickies,
3. If you occasionally like getting into trouble, at least have the proper tools available to get out of it.
4. If not, use search button.
couldn't agree more. what the devs do has taken a lot of work to make stable(ish) for everyone but it can STILL screw your **** up. so people need to be careful.

theres a link that was useful for me, hopefully useful for others. further reading material, is what i guess i can say about it.
^ Can't believe I posted one of "those" threads. Lame.
Edit: just tried to thank you, but I'm thanked out for the day apparently.
If they can't read the original thread, you expect them to read this one?
its a nice thought, but roots back to RTFM, those that should never do

Well... From this, they will learn eventually, from to 0 to 1. So they know about the technology of their device rather than just using it. People need to learn...

this is the reason why i always tell ppl not to spoon-feed noobs answers, cuz they wont learn anything and will only mess up their phones and then beg for help by creating useless threads or post in dev threads..on the other hand if ppl didnt answer their question they will be forced to read and learn thus no more useless threads/posts
After learning how to fix my own mistakes and not relying on a toolkit, I've begun to wonder, why they are even around for the Galaxy Nexus.

Haha that's why I stopped helping people in Q+A. I used to help with the whole "Help I'm bricked" topics. Not anymore. My opinion is don't mess with root system files than CAN brick your phone if you don't know what you're doing or at least how to recover from it manually should a problem arise. Let em sweat it before they finally search and figure out ADB. Which they will. Their first instinct is to come and just ask for help. After an hour of 0 replies and the need to use their phone now, they will search and they will find what they need. Not that it matters because you have people here saying just use the toolkit to fix it. Almost every single thread in Q+A has at least one use a toolkit reply.
Idk to be honest I just stopped giving a damn about anyone but me lol. If I tried to help every single person boot looping I'll be on XDA 24/7. I got a nexus, I jumped the gun & used a toolkit. I boot looped. I searched and I figured out what I needed to do to get back up & running. As far as I'm concerned let them do the same. That's the way it is today. Everyone wants to be spoonfed. They only want the end result, but don't wanna work for it.
Apple - Innovating new ways to take your money
Well if they brick their own phone, because what they do to it. They will be learn their lesson,...
Once i brick my tab... Then i learn from that to understand the process... About ask for help in web? ... That's out of question.. The only one left is... You and you brick phone.. Since that,i always looking many source of knowledge before do something to my phone..
Anyway android is open source isn't it? If people want to learn.. Why not..? Or it's just change like corporate, monopoly only for certain people...

Hey, as the guy who started the linked thread in the second post here, I've used Wug's Toolkit to save me time before. Yes, I had the knowledge to get myself out of that jam if that didn't work, but I feel the toolkits aren't a bad thing by themselves.

I agree they're not bad at all. People just shouldn't be so fearful of, or think that learning, terminal commands is hard. Posts like the one that was linked are a great starting point, thanks for taking the time to author that post. They can pick up where the toolkits leave off when someone's in trouble.
It kinda frustrates me too. The only reason why I have a low post count is because I know how to search and I can get my self out of pretty much any sticky situation with experience/searching. I don't understand why people automatically blame the dev for something they didn't know what was going on in the first place. I have maybe a 1/10 of the issues everyone else posts because I do the proper steps before hand or I go into it knowing what is already broke. If it is an unstable ROM then why bother complaining, you should know that not everything is going to be perfect.
Same here on the posting count. I read about what I'm going to do, can't afford to brick and buy a new phone.

Has anyone found any tutorial videos on how to root, install custom recovery(TWRP looks tough to be entirely honest) and custom roms?
It always boosts my confidence to see someone successfully installing custom things.
Also I have never used LG products and have no idea how to do basic things such as getting in recovery etc. I have experience with samsung phones but nothing other than this:/ Would anyone be kind enough to redirect me or make some tutorial videos:$?

Either way if you do not want to help I suggest not responding and being thankful that you have the option to cary on with your schedule, reading what you feel is more important.

Just do research instead of asking others to provide you with videos. If you learn it yourself and learn the ins and outs, it'll benefit you greatly when something inevitably goes wrong and you can figure it out yourself instead of relying heavily on others. As you move step by step in the guides, if something doesn't make sense to you, just Google it. It's not hard when you get used to doing it. Not trying to be mean or rude, but if you don't want to help yourself, we can't help you.

i will give him one thing though there is a pretty vital command missing in the twrp thread to get it to execute, or at least from how I did it on every other device
here is a link to a video on how to access recovery via the 3 button method.
I recorded it with my phone so I am sorry/not sorry about the quality but it gets the job done.
also i can relate with you on wanting to see it visually, even as somebody who knows what they are doing, especially things involving button combo's I have a harder time reading than if i just saw a 30 second video on how to do it.
http://youtu.be/uo3YfszOPsQ
as for the recovery flash that's a little more involved and i already have my device rooted so if i did it, it would be from CM, and i'm not entirely sure if that would cause a problem (i don't think so though because loki is cool like that)

Thank you for annoying me 2day I wish you well. And when you get stuck on something and require other peoples help on a FORUM They all redirect you to google so you understand what a joke your responce is.
Ps didnt mean to be rude. But if you didnt know the meaning of a forum now you do.

I will repeat again.i did not ask for anyone to go out of their way and make videos i asked if anyone found videos. That by no means says i am not greatful for the small and perfect video you made. Rooting seems to be very easy its the recovery that I am having doubts about cause it seems to be a lengthy procedure. And requires what seems to be a ton of commands
