Question about upcoming A9 - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Do any xda folks know if the promised December update for HTC One A9
will make an unlocked A9 work in the Verizon network? Would like to buy for intro price
if it will work. Thanks.

Don't quote me on this but may be like the Nexus 5x I read about. If you already have a nano sim card activated on vzw network to toss in you should be fine.

It was officially announced or at least has appeared over most of the Android blog sites that Verizon will support the unlocked A9 with a software patch sometime in December.

Droid Life review of the A9 says that it has "abysmal battery life" but is a contender for the phone of the year.

Oh, PULEASE, let's not resurrect that "who designed what first" discussion here!
I have a test A9. Battery life is not "abysmal." Doze mode is quite impressive. Camera is excellent, including OIS. No, I don't want it to replace my own M9, but it's a solid device (and, as always, better than any iphone).

Thanks for the video. helpfull I cop the GNex finally. used but only 1 month old. so new where did you get that custom back skined thing on your gnex ?!
It's not really a comparison.
The GN has the worst AMOLED display Samsung's ever created, a crappy camera, ****ty battery life with the standard battery, and an outdated SoC. It's only outstanding feature compared to any more modern phone is that it's pure Google and will always get the latest updates. That, and at $349 U.S. unlocked, it's a great value. I passed on it when it first came out because of the h/w specs and reviews and now that the next-gen SoC's are out I'm glad I did. Software comes and goes, h/w is forever.

5-inch Google Nexus in the works from HTC

I read this on Yahoo News:
HTC’s (2498) rumored DROID Incredible X smartphone has allegedly been chosen as one of Google’s (GOOG) upcoming Nexus devices, according to a report from GSM Arena. Google is widely expected to have not one but five new Nexus devices available to consumers this fall. Earlier this year, the search giant partnered with ASUS (2357) to release the Nexus 7 tablet, the first Nexus-branded device of 2012. The Mountain View-based company has reportedly partnered with HTC to produce the Google “Nexus 5″ smartphone.
The device is said to be running Android 4.1.2 — which includes bug fixes, Project Butter improvements, additional lock screen functionality and other tweaks — and is said to be equipped with a 5-inch 1080p full HD display and a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The company’s first phablet will also feature “a super slim design” and a large 2,500 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, up to 64GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel rear camera.

There are already 2 of the five nexus devices out so there's only three more if the 5 nexus thing is to be believed

i chose the galaxy nexus because it was relatively cheap.
the entire phone is compromised by the AWFUL speaker.
it basically destroys the ability of the phone to be a portable media player - and wearing headphones in bed isn't desirable.
it totally sucks.
as a result, im now waiting to buy the next google phone, and waste yet more money...just because of the speaker.
i'd be willing to pay some electronics wizkid £50 to do some sort of speaker mod for the galaxy nexus. I bet it'd prove very popular.
yes yes theres that volume+ app, its barely effective.

My speaker is fine. You should try sony mw600 otherwise. Excellent bluetooth provided you provide your own quality earphomes. The one that comes with it sucks.

Not sure if you should trade in.
The tegra 3 is really starting to get out-dated IMO. In the end it is your decision. So yeah.
Personally i wouldn't do it.
Not sure if it's a "helping" reply but why don't you consider Nexus4 if you want stock Android experience? You'll get the fastest updates and none of the inevitable bugs from porting stock Android to a device that wasn't supposed to have it. Also Google would not abandon it sometime in the future like CM are doing with Exynos devices (if it's true).

Word. My htc one x screen broke and they told me repair costs 283 euros. Told them to shove it up their ass. 16 euros more and i have a nexus 4. So you should really go for a Nexus 4 if you like CM.
The only problem i have here is the fact that in austria we have no google play store. But hopefully this person i met from germany is trust worthy enough and will send me a nexus 4 once it's out.
Thank u very much guys...i'll skip of buying one x and wait for nexus 4...but here in india we cant buy them through playstore... Lg is going to sell almost double of price here thats what i am fearing about to buy

Personally, I think the One X is better than the Nexus 4. Early benchmarks show that the Nexus has a severely underclocked GPU, and easily overheats, getting throttled even more. The One X also has a better screen IMO.

Yeah... You said it.. early benchmarks.
We've seen how the HoX did before and after certain benchmarks. So there's no reason not to believe that it won't be the same in nexus 4's case.
Then you have multiple pros for the Nexus 4:
Bigger battery (2100 mAh) is nothing remarkable. However, 28nm is more power efficient which would mean we should definitely be experiencing a better battery life in the Nexus 4 than on the One X. Even if stand by times won't be as good, the battery life with screen on is going to be better. (see galaxy s3).
For people that want their phone for regular day to day usage, s4 chip is supposed to be better and faster. (EVEN in gaming it's going to stump the Tegra3)
Google getting hands on quad core - that must actually mean that they will actually do their best to optimize their phone to run quad-core. And since it is google we are talking about i can imagine them doing a great job.
First to get updates (reason enough to go for the Nexus 4 over the one x)
IPS screen (supposed to be among the best)
Really. What more can i say. There's one thing i don't doubt, and that's the fact that the tegra 4 is going to be better battery wise and faster. However, i don't feel like waiting for a tegra 4 device and to top it off, you actually need a manufacturer that makes the best out of it. For people who are not into gaming, they probably won't notice much of a difference. At the pace that google is improving their OS i just can't make up for excuses to stay with other manufacturers.

Well, technically the S4 pro does stump the Tegra 3 in gaming, but Tegra 3 has more optimized games in Play Store so therefore Tegra wins. The SLCD2 is also better than the IPS in some reviews, and the underclocked GPU is also very apparent is some benchmarks.

Best 2015 device for root/ROM?

So obviously VZN and ATT lock em up pretty tight, but T-Mobile's G4 will hopefully have an unlockable bootloader. So the question is, assuming that happens, which 2015 device do you think will have the best Dev community? I think the G4 has a lot of potential. It's one of the few devices with a Qualcomm chip... and one that doesn't overheat... plus it has a removable SD card slot, a removable battery, a great screen, a very good camera and an interesting back cover. Obviously the One M9 has a solid dev community. What Chinese phones will make it to the US? They often times have unlockable bootloaders, right? My only concern there is security. What do you guys think,?
The best development community will always be whichever Nexus phone is the current model.

I just find it interesting that Google released LP on a Nexus device with a 32bit chip despite talking up the 64bit capability of LP. I want this next phone to last me a minimum of 12 months but preferably 18-24 and I think apps within the next 6-12 months will start to take advantage of 64 bit processing. With the G4 I love the ability to replace the battery, add an ext SD card, use Quick Charge 2.0, have the improved screen that is apparently not too battery abusive and get wireless charging with the folio cover. Plus I have this probably unfounded hunch that Quick Charge 2.0 might decrease the batteries lifetime. Since the G4 has a replaceable battery that is a non issue.
Edit: the camera looks pretty impressive, too.

Currently the best phone of 2015 ?
Overall?
Got to be the G4. No doubt.
At the moment the G4 is the best what u can get for sure....
But saw some teasers from Oneplus... Curious what the have to offer... Only the invitation system sucks.
Only minus... There is not much activity here... Hope when the other bootloaders are unlocked (mine is) developers will provide us nice candy's.
Always had HTC which were unlocked in a few days. And busy community on XDA.

Anyone Come From, or Go to the Nexus 6?

I have the opportunity to trade my 32gb G4 for a 64gb Nexus 6. If any of you guys have used the two, I'd love to hear opinions, before I decide on the deal. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm on the Verizon version, so we don't have those things. I'm a flashaholic, that's why I'm considering making the switch.
Oh sadly... If never be possible on verizon, yeah, shure trade....
I have sold my nexus 6 last week, well is really great device but the camera is not comparable with G4 and definitely G4 'more' balanced throughout but if you cant unlock your verizon....yes N6 have a great community support[emoji6]

After comparing specs, it seems like I would be taking a step backwards if I went to the Nexus 6. I think I'm just going to ride it out, and keep my fingers crossed, that the Nexus 5 (2015) comes to fruition.
You cannot go wrong with the N6, especially with your admitted addiction to 'flashing'. It is made to tweak/tinker. It also has great (for a smartphone) front firing stereo sound.
That said, the screen on the N6 is very meh, especially compared to the G4, and the camera on the N6, although decent, is not near as good as the G4.
Battery life sucks for the N6. I got rid of it for that reason. I'd trade nothing for this phone.

Since they figured out a way to get Xposed going on most of the G4s, that's gone a long way in easing my mind about keeping this phone. I'm still going to keep my eyes out for the N5 (2015), with a comparable, or close, camera, but if it doesn't happen, I may be able to live with my G4 as is.

I came from a nexus 6 and the roms were awesome enough that even with a qhd 6 inch screen it still got awesome battery life.
