I read this on Yahoo News:
HTC’s (2498) rumored DROID Incredible X smartphone has allegedly been chosen as one of Google’s (GOOG) upcoming Nexus devices, according to a report from GSM Arena. Google is widely expected to have not one but five new Nexus devices available to consumers this fall. Earlier this year, the search giant partnered with ASUS (2357) to release the Nexus 7 tablet, the first Nexus-branded device of 2012. The Mountain View-based company has reportedly partnered with HTC to produce the Google “Nexus 5″ smartphone.
The device is said to be running Android 4.1.2 — which includes bug fixes, Project Butter improvements, additional lock screen functionality and other tweaks — and is said to be equipped with a 5-inch 1080p full HD display and a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The company’s first phablet will also feature “a super slim design” and a large 2,500 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, up to 64GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel rear camera.

There are already 2 of the five nexus devices out so there's only three more if the 5 nexus thing is to be believed

i chose the galaxy nexus because it was relatively cheap.
the entire phone is compromised by the AWFUL speaker.
it basically destroys the ability of the phone to be a portable media player - and wearing headphones in bed isn't desirable.
it totally sucks.
as a result, im now waiting to buy the next google phone, and waste yet more money...just because of the speaker.
i'd be willing to pay some electronics wizkid £50 to do some sort of speaker mod for the galaxy nexus. I bet it'd prove very popular.
yes yes theres that volume+ app, its barely effective.

Go with the Nexus, supporters of the GSII have ONLY GPU performance to back them up. But so far, my Nexus plays every game I throw at it BEAUTIFULLY. We might have the older SGX540 GPU, but it IS overclocked and is not the same one found in older phones. The SGX540 in the GNex runs at a higher frequency, and the performance boost is very noticeable. What do you need an overperforming GPU for when this one performs just as well on the user end?
Not to mention the beautiful 720p HD display on the Nexus. Do you want to be stuck on that ****ty 480x800 display of the SGSII? Not to mention, the GNex is outputting more pixels AND performs exceptionally. Our 'weak' GPU is a beast.
Lol. It's a Nexus. 'Nuff said
EDIT: Even our OMAP4460 outclasses that exynox garbage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378551
So, GSII, do you feel special with your useless, overzealous GPU?
SGS2 is a solid phone. Great hardware and beautiful screen. Great battery life. No software updates like Nexus line of phone. Hence the reason its officially still at GB 2.3.5
GN is a solid phone. Great hardware and mind-blowing screen. Great battery life. Software updates arrive as soon as Google releases them. Currently running ICS 4.0.1
Its ur decision which way you want to go. I have both. Handed unlocked SGS2 to my wife. I am using GN and am very happy with it. Even though my cedit card still has a big dent in it. Lol

what do you mean???
I am in the same boat. I have been putting off upgrading to a new phone for quite some time now (i dont upgrade every few months due to student reasons).. lol.. but the new parade of phones is tempting me a lot!
I am still stuck on an ancient Nokia E72 with its 600mhz of glory!
I am deciding between GNex, SGS2 or the Iphone 4s. My primary usage is texting and calling, camera is not a very big deal breaker for me (i have a dslr and a small point and shoot, but all of these phones have a decent enough camera for those impromptu moments).
I decided against the iphone 4s since the design is still the same as the previous, IE, its made of glass and is very very delicate (accidents can happen).
So im left with S2 and GN. I kind of decided to go with the GN since its got a bigger and higher res screen (i do like the screen to look nice!) and the pure android does seem like a better choice.. Even ICS is only GN, S2 would be getting it soon, bt it will have the touchwiz etc on it.. id rather stay clear of the 'advancements' made by the individual companies and have pure android with me..
the only thing that is bugging me now is the battery life. i understand that its a smartphone with a ginormous screen so im not expecting 3-4 days battery (the type i get with my E72 with moderate to heavy usage), but i would like to get by the entire day with moderate usage and charge the phone at night while i sleep.. the forums have many people claiming really good battery or really bad battery (for me, really good battery is the ability to go without ur charger for the entire week, something that i have done on my fone, albeit with sending less than 20 texts and a phone call the whole day). but ya, i wouldnt mind if i have to charge the phone at the end of everyday..
What would you guys do??

so, what purposes is GN for?
Phone, Text, Web, Some games (not all games work in GN), 720p screen (which is also a double edged blade), Development
ICS4, Google music, Face Unlock, etc, all these also available on other phones
GN only represents "guaranteed" OS upgrade by Google, which doesn't seems to be holding true anymore from what we've seen already on the latest OTA upgrade
I love Google products with all their drawbacks, currently owning a Nexus S and this is a great phone, so Galaxy Nexus would be my pick for sure.
Guys, Do you agree that Google shouldn't let Samsung to be maker of the next nexus?
I just think Samsung ****e...Especially it's marketing in Hong Kong. (It may differ in other parts of this planet)
If Samsung would get the radios straightened out the phone would be almost perfect IMO.
I'm happy with their build quality (overall), but I do wish they would use a better GPS chip (my GPS is fine, but not to the level of accuracy/polling frequency that my HTC and Motorola phones have had) and tougher glass on the screen. Those are really my only two complaints...
Most of my phones have been GG. They have almost all scratched, despite me being careful.
As for GPS, folks are quick to forget problems HTC has had in the past with GPS. The Thunderbolt had garbage GPS for a long time.
Give it a battery like the Razr MAXX and I'd be a very happy camper. That and make it better to hold...

No I do not agree. That said, I'm still going to buy it without regard to builder.
Samsung has proven that it can build phones with amazing hardware, take the SGS2 for example (top notch camera, GPU, screen), they only dumbed down the Nexus because they were following Google's specs. On my SGN radios work perfectly and battery life is amazing, build quality and design are great.. GPS locks almost instantly.
Samsung all the way for the next Nexus!
No, I don't agree. Samsung makes the best hardware in terms of specification and power. They even have better design than HTC, whose phones are all genuinely identical. Motorola makes very good hardware too, but their designs are hit and miss. The GPS on my Nexus has been fantastic, getting locks within literally five seconds.
When I had my Omnia HD, I always lamented the fact that I had the best piece of hardware on the market but with Samsung crippling the software support. The Samsung Nexus devices have fixed this.
Make the next Nexus a slab of 100% display with less than 0.5mm bezel (using that new earpiece technology so that there's no need for an earpiece speaker at the top) and I'll certainly be in line to buy the Nexus once again at the end of this year. Oh, and design the back of the device so it looks a bit more... premium. The Galaxy Nexus' back looks too cheap for my liking.
Of all the devices I've had lately this has been the best one so far defect wise....knocking on wood. The latest HTC devices all had major issues, as did my first razr. I'm quite happy so far.

I'd like to see Google switch out manufacturers every year(I thought that was the original plan).. But in all honesty Samsung is a great company and if the next Nexus is manufactured by them then I will still be happy. Hell, I don't even have a Galaxy Nexus (stupid AT&T) I'd kill to get one.

Each manufacturer have to submit a Bit (model design + cost & price to produce)
then Google chooses the one the like the most
whom ever wins the bit, gets to make the next Nexus phone
that means both Motorola and HTC lost the challenge of the last 2 incarnations of Nexus phones
it'll be interesting to see SonyEricsson, Acer, Asus, LG & Huawei run into the competition as well

The *only* reason I'd say I wish Motorola designed it is the Radios. The CDMA version gets pretty lackluster radio performance. Standing right next to a RAZR and Rezound the other night I was fluctuating between 1 bar and no service and they both had 4 bars (all 3 on CDMA-only). Bars might not mean anything, but my signal strength, at least half the time, was completely dry. I had no data connection at all, while they both had fantastic connections.
That kind of crap is purely unacceptable for the "Flagship" phone from Google. How did this kind of thing ever make it past pre-production without someone noticing the problem and correcting it? Use a higher-quality radio.
i dont agree at all. seems like the majority of posters on here just like to complain. my nexus has been great. i am on my original one. my radios dont drop, my screen is great, happy with the battery life and my gps is the fastest i have ever seen on a phone.

The way I see it the cons are:
- slow updates from HTC
- no Super AMOLED screen
- Sense
- bloatware apps
- capacitive buttons (may be a - or + for you)
- power button on the top (personally I like it on the side, good for people with smaller hands too)
- non removable battery
and you don't get the awesome multicolored notification light on the Galaxy Nexus.

LOL. No joke. I had an Evo 4G and a G2, both of which had poor build quality (good materials shakily put together) and needed replacement (G2 once, the Evo several times over). Got my GNex and its solid and well built. I always found it funny that people regarded HTC for their build quality and I never thought they were miles ahead or anything, especially based on my experiences.

My fault. When I was looking a few days back a few places had them at around $760 or something. The non removable battery is a big deal on a android device usually because of the phones power and screen. Well really with any phones now of days including the 4S. I would get the HTC ONE because of the sexy hardware. Yeah people will say it sucks having HTC 4.0 sense but who cares. Custom roms will take care of that and alot of software issues which can always be altered. When hardware on smartphones can not.
IMO why not to get the One X, because you will regret it when the SGS3 drops.

Ah, I guess I will have to go see the SLCD2 for myself when the One phones finally hit. Have you heard anything about the screen's drain on the battery? AMOLED is supposed to be more battery sufficient isn't it?
And I agree on the HTC build quality. The materials they use are usually excellent, but on some of their phones the actual quality of the build leaves something to be desired. The only thing I see people disliking the most on Samsung phones is the plastic they use. I haven't heard any complaints on the actual quality of the build though.

AMOLED is actually not always so frugal on battery. It only does well when you have a dark UI or dark background (because individual pixels can turn off). It actually drains very high when you use high brightness levels. SLCD2 isn't going to be any better or worse I don't think. It's still going to be the largest drain by far on your device, especially at 720P and 4.7".
The way I see it, if u keep waiting for the "next better phone",you're gonna be waiting infinite amount of time because you'll hear information on a phone like the One X (for example) and when that comes out there will be info on the s3 and then you'll wanna wait for that, and then when that comes around to being released, the new Nexus will be rumored and you'll wanna wait for that and so on and so forth....pointless! Just buy a phone and use it! If u want the next one, sell yours and pay the difference! IMO, the smart thing to do is stick with a nexus if you're not into bloatware and plus development will be booming with every nexus! So many factors come in to buying a new phone, it sucks but cell phones are ruling the world right now!
And yeah I know quad core is all the rage but I've said it before and I'll say it again, these phones can't get any faster in terms of transitions and such lol! Yeah you'll notice on benchmarks and hardcore games, but that's what the ps3 and 360s are for (and ps4 and 720 next year) and get real! Nobody will care that your phones scores higher on a benchmark than someone else's if their running the same damn software!

Obsolete definition: No longer produced or used; out of date
Well the Galaxy Nexus is still being produced by google and used by us so the first part wouldn't even apply.
As for the "out of date" part? I'd have to say no...
+ Latest OS (ics)
+ Latest screen technology (super amoled hd)
+ Dual core processor (try finding a quad core in the states ... cant be done)
+ Guaranteed OS updates before any other newer devices (jellybean)
+ Best developer community
- Out of date camera (not a photographer and even if I was I'd use a dslr instead)
- Out of date battery size (buy a spare off Amazon for $8 and keep it in your pocket)
Its a niche market device. People who want Nexus phones will buy Nexus phones because they know what they are.
Until the next Nexus phone comes out, this is my phone.
I must be blind but to me the camera on the Nexus is great.

I determine a phone to be obsolete when it no longer has any manufacturer support. My sgs4g is obsolete to me because it will never see another official update of any kind. My nexus will see them so its not obsolete.

It all depends on what you expect from your phone's camera. Me? I have a bag with over $2000 worth of camera gear in it. When I want to take pics, I use that. When I take pics on my phone, I really only want to grab something quick. So my standards aren't high for my phone.
Have they come a long way and are they better on newer phones? Absolutely. I guess it just doesn't really matter to some (read: me). I've taken what I think to be nice pics.
Quality picture taking (regardless of the equipment) is all about lighting.
no not even close
Sure the HTC One series and SIII are really nice devices but the Gnex is still amazing by any standard. We will also have, I believe, the best developer support be it Google themselves or 3rd party.

I don't think it is sure it came out last year in December , and I'm one of those people the switch phones a lot, I had the BB, htc hero, evo 4G, the thunderbolt, iPhone 4, epic , nexus s 4g, evo 3d, epic touch, iPhone 4s and now the galaxy nexus, I admited i have made some stupid mistakes but I'm palming to stay with my galaxy nexus and my iPhone 4S( might sell this one tho cause I got offer $500). Anyways I just wanted to posted this cause a lot people here is thinking about the GS3 which in reality is not the biggest upgrade IMO... Anyways how many phones how you own in the last 2 years( I would say 2 years cause thats how long contracts are in the US.

Depends on how you look at it. If you view the Nexus for what it is...a developer phone with an unlockable bootloader that serves as Google's reference device for the current version of Android, then the only thing that can make a Nexus obsolete would be the next Nexus.
If you look at it as an end user device, then you could make the argument that if it's not obsolete yet, it will be in very short order with such beasts as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S III. But then again, Nexus devices have never been at the forefront of hardware because that's not what it's about.
I take the first view. I also take this view with the tablets too. Sure, there are tablets out there that are sexier than the Xoom now, but a year later it is still the only Google Experience tablet and is the only reference tablet available, so therefore the Xoom still isn't obsolete yet.

Yes! YES!!

Phone still beats GS3. Quad core is gonna be horrendously battery inefficient when it comes out. Why do you think the stock battery is so huge?

Amen to that. My buddy was telling me today that he was going to get a GS3 on release day and mentioned the 2100 mAH battery. I said "Well yeah man, you're going to need every bit of that to power that quad core processor. My Galaxy Nexus has an 1850 mAH battery with a dual core processor and I'll guarantee you my battery life rivals yours." He said "Wow, you may have a point there." haha
Hi there,
So my question is, what do you think of the nexus 4?
Personally i think in the front it looks ferocious but in the back part, it looks like shiny and LGfab (disgusting) style, they should put a mirror in there also.
Also, do you think that the rumors of a GN2 or a GN+ will become true?
Plz god YES.
I think nexus phones HAVE to be from HTC or (now) samsung!!!
Will I buy it!?
Yes, cause its google's so the expectation can be above the sky! I dont think that it is better than our beloved GNexus.
Thank you
I personally think it looks fantastic. But to each his own. I've always had Samsung phones including both Nexus' made by them. Although I wish Samsung had another run with it Lg isn't stopping me from buying the nexus 4.

I still love my galaxy nexus no need buy nexus 4.
I love it, I think the glass construction will make it feel much more premium and better in the hand than the GNex.
Thanks for the laugh. This is the one and only. LG Google Nexus⁴.
Take it or leave it. The "GNex+" is the Touchwiz NatureUX Samsung Galaxy Premier. It just simply has the gut of the GNexus smashed into a Touchwiz phone.
IMO the N⁴ is the most beautiful Nexus made so far. Finally a Premium feeling device. And iPhone 4S has a shiny apple logo smacked right on the middle of the back, still a best sellermad:Nexus should be). So yeah.

I believe no matter how popular it is LG is a bad phone manufacturer. Point blank. They get a phone slap their ui on it and call it flagship......noooo. HTC is the way to be. Literally they should have taken over after Samsung.

How can anyone say without touching one? The phone hasn't even been released yet. No regular users (or even reviewers) have had quality time with it.
As for the GNex+ or GN2, those phones don't exist and never will exist.
I know I'm probably speaking blasphemy here, but the only two attractive features of the Nexus 4 are the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of LPDDR2, and honestly, Android is so piss-poor at managing multi-core and RAM that those specs won't make it any faster than an iPhone 5 or any of the upcoming WP8 devices until, I'm gonna just guess here, but probably Android 5 or 5.1.
Hard truth.

Me, too.
I think putting a quad-core in is a stupid idea unless you severely underclock it. A good dual-core S4 like the HTC One S (which performs better than the quad-core One X in most situations due to the smaller resolution) would have been largely sufficient. Thumbs up for the memory upgrade, though.
I remain doubtful w.r.t. the IPS screen. I'm the first to admit that the Super AMOLED in our Galaxy Nexus has wonderful contrast, homogeneity and sharpness, but the gamut + default color profile suck and there is hella ghosting. I hope the new screen will be an improvement.
It's good that they managed to fit a 2100 mAh battery in there but if it comes at the expense of not being able to carry backup batteries, then I don't like it. I always have a spare battery when travelling and it would feel quite wrong for me to use a monolithic phone. Bleh.
Still no micro-SD slot though it was one of the many complaints about the Galaxy Nexus.
Europe is quite slow with true 4G deployment so why no 42Mbps DC-HSPA+?
What about the build quality of other LG phones? How are they?

Um u could just buy an external battery that charges it. Like how iphones do it. You charge the battery, and u connect it to the Port and it charges. So that is not an excuse why someone wouldn't want to upgrade.

This is a stupid regret full buyer of LG. I have a few words to say. Whatever they did to this, will be awesome. Why? Google shall support it in software and LG does the hardware...
Now Let me tell you this. LG promised my phone(Optimus Black) ICS at the third quarter of this year. Guess what? Sorry, we still don't have any updates of the ICS. UP TILL NOW. So, u really should buy it LG has everything good except user support. And now, Google collaborates with LG and that solves everything!

Android isn't the only culprit that can't manage multi-core, we've had single core for so long that getting proper dual-core optimisation will take at least another 2-3 years.
The jump from dual-core to quad-core was a much smaller leap than from single-core to dual-core.
The truth is that most apps don't scale well.

I think that Google picked lg. I wonder if Google has their own forum, where they make threads wondering if their customers are retarded? Come on, the phone isn't even out yet. Any complaint has been refuted a dozen times in any of these dozens of threads. Google birthed the magic box (gnex) everyone here loves so dearly, and now they made a new one. I apologize for my bluntness, but it's ****ing GOOGLE, and I'm gonna go ahead and presume that they known how the hell to oversee their flagship device's production. The phone is probly awesome. Buy it, don't, or make your own phone.

I like how it looks and i think IPS screen will look gorgeous, but why would i want to switch from my Galaxy Nexus? Performance is still snappy, dev support is amazing.
And i've ordered new housing for my phone for 20 bucks and it looks like new now. So i think i'll stick with it for another 6 months at least.
