You almost certainly won't see it until HTC releases the source for Marshmallow on the M9.
Thanks for the information

A9 has been ported to the M8.
If this is possible I'm sure someone may be able to port it to the M9.
I however am not great at porting so it won't be me, but I'd like to see MM on the M9.

If I'm understanding the situation correctly (a dubious bet at best), the A9 to M8 port is still the stock Sense experience. Going from that to an AOSP ROM will involve quite a bit of work. It probably not possible - or at least not very worthwhile - to build a stable AOSP ROM of the newest version of Android on the M9 using another device's firmware.
On a happy note, HTC has said that the M9 is getting Android 6.0. The exact timeline was somewhat unclear. The consensus seems to be that it will be releases somewhere at the end of this month or the beginning of January.

Both m8 and m9 are being tested now for Android 6.0.
A more precise timeline will come once more time is tested on the devices and fixing bugs.

It has been in 3rd cert stage for quite a while. It is due before Christmas, most likely first week of December if following "beginning end of 2015".
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I havent done a port before, but I think there may be some issues since A8/M8 are 32bit and M9 is 64.

The rumors are true – HTC has confirmed to TechRadar the One M8 will not receive Android 7 Nougat software. Meh, we already knew marshmallow was the last official big update for m8 for a long time now.
It's not HTC's fault. It's Qualcomm. They don't release the Graphics Driver that supports Vulkan API for the 800/801 chipsets.
---------- Post added at 08:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:04 AM ----------
However. Android Nougat don't need Vulkan to function. You should see the unofficial ports of Nougat from the devs
it would still be nice to have it if for nothing else but the power savings (assuming it takes over the running of openGL written games).
Really wished Google would support devices for 3 years, 2 years is really short. The M8 GPE with the 801 is still very fast and smooth.

Its not up to Google, its up to the individual device manufacturer.
Sure, it would be nice if HTC supported the device longer. But HTC did good by this phone, 2 years is a decent run. Especially since it was largely a financial decision; and HTC is in dire straits financially.
In contrast, Samsung abandoned my Tab Pro 8.4 almost at birth (around the same time the M8 was released), since it didn't sell well enough (whatever that is). A couple minor bug fix patches, but it never even got a single major update; and never made it past KitKat that it deployed with.
"It will continue to receive critical security updates", says htc. What a joke. I'm still on the 12-2015 security patch.
Shame on you, HTC!

Yes, HTC hasn't done too hot releasing the monthly security patches, however, I was surprised we got Marshallow at all, so I'm not complaining too hard.
Some devices never get a single update at all. The M8 started life with Kit Kat and ended on Marshmallow, which is pretty rare for any non-Nexus Android device.

Yeah but remember that Lollipop was buggy and we didn't get another update fixing any of that for a whole year.
True, they owed us one after that Lollipop fiasco...
So sad to see M8 GPE now stuck at Marshmallow 6.0 with July 1, 2016 security patch, RIP.
Keeping this phone as long as I can!

I currently have the note 5. Before that the s5. I love to have options to flash different roms. But I have been on Sammy for the last 10 yearso and know nothing of flashing, rooting or installing custom recovery on htc. I awaited the s7 only to find out it was locked down. Same with the other Samsung. No development. So I'm looking at the htc 10. Will there be a ton of development for htc 10 sprint? Is it hard to root , recovery& flash roms? I had so much development for the s5 I miss those days

My experience with the HTC and setting it up was wonderful. I received it yesterday, and got off work about 5:00, and took it out of the plastic when I got to the hotel I'm staying at. By 9:00 PM I had fired it up, used S-Off to unlock it, flashed TWRP via fastboot, then made a backup, wiped it, and flashed a custom rom.
I'm usually a pre-order guy when I buy flagships, the M10 has been awesome because I was able to achieve s-off after unboxing it, which is the HTC version of allowing flashing recovery, roms, firmware radios, etc from TWRP or a custom recovery.
I can't thank the Sunshine team enough for making an app that allows me to pay $25 for the license, and unlock the phone simply by following the instructions. I've been rooting phones long enough that I previously had to hold a paperclip shorting two pins on the mother board while counting a certain number of seconds and typing commands with other hand to be able to upgrade firmware. So I really appreciate an app that does all the work, and allows me to get right down to business backing up and wiping. Literally, the hardest part of the setup was pointing the device to the right drivers in Windows 10, and that was a computer issue not the phone.
However, I'm an HTC guy, and you've been with Samsung a while. I've installed multiple Sense roms so far, which are HTC based, although VERY custom roms. I can't testify to the AOSP roms and their kernels yet, someone else will have to testify to that, if you're considering that route from the start.
For me, it's a great device so far. It works really well with my Pioneer blue tooth/hands free system in the car that I've been using for voice command searches and navigation, video streaming to my media players, and audio streaming with Pandora, iHeartRadio, google music, etc.
Call quality has been good, and I'm very happy with the build quality and finish of the device in general. I bought it outright from HTC, so I was apprehensive to pull the trigger at retail price, but I don't finance my devices.
Since I'm a fan of sense roms, it was worth it to me to pay more and get a better device experience for my taste than with some of the nexus (not as much cheaper as they used to be) or one of the blu oppo or CM type unlocked phones.
Pretty much what the above poster said. You may not find the sheer quantity of different ROMs that you would find on previous popular Samsung phones (or even previous HTC flagships), but still lots and lots of options. Take a look at the main 10 Dev forum, plenty of great running choices. Similarly I only stick to Sense ROMs so I can't tell you much about AOSP or CM specifically, but that's only because Sense is such a smooth, reliable and enjoyable experience for me. This is the main reason I went for the 10, having previously owned an M7 as well.
For me it comes down to this: Software-wise, if you're someone who makes use of and can't live without all of the small TouchWiz features and add-ons (e.g. hovering your hand to take screenshots, multi-windows, etc) and don't really care as much about having a consistently fluid experience, then stick with Samsung. Otherwise, Sense is the better product imo.
Thanks guys. I generally turn off all those silly features and tune the romantic more for speed

The chances are great you will love the HTC10. I own all the galaxy S series from the S blaze to the S7, also the note 5 and the note 3 and I can honestly say I would trade any 1 of them for the HTC10!!! I got my HTC10 on release and have not looked back. I am loving the hell out it lol.

I am waiting, but only because I anticipate their release will herald a price drop in the HTC 10. I don't expect the Pixel phones to come with an SD reader, so unless they blow my mind, I doubt I'll be getting one.
Sense is such a lightweight functional skin now with really good features I really can't see the point in getting a pixel instead of this device, I can see why the pixel XL with a bigger screen would be a consideration, really wish htc would make a 5.5" 10... Got to say as well as I run a few phones htc moving the back and recent keys either side of the home button was a genius move... Had a lot of phones this HTC 10 in my opinion is as good as anything else out there at the moment...

wow I just notices that htc 10 evo has 810
I expected a 821 as it should be a better 10
I think that this means ports.....and, very good quality ones since chip is the same...
though it is an error to put 810 on any device....I don't like its performance here, too much thermal dependant
any thought about this? are sources out? anyone working on this?
I actually don't see a reason why anyone should port anything from the HTC 10 evo. The M9 is not EOL and still receives official updates. Besides there are already ports from the "normal" HTC 10...

Seeing how OP2 guys crying for a N update, i have a bad feeling that OP3/t users will start to do the same thing with Android O.
What do you think, will Oneplus stop supporting op3/t? I don't count security patches, i have bootloader unlocked phone, those who unlock bl and cry for a security patch are just dumb.

as for OP support, i don't think it'll end with OP5 release...
they're still officially to this day selling the 3T, adn the device is 6 months old, thats not a life cycle, probably because of the 3T the 3 will still have support, my guess will be until at least 1 stable 7.1.2 release... with luck we could get 1 O release (from OOS), the theory being is keeping those devices for beta testing and the reward is getting the updates, until 5 gathers enough users for the beta program to be transferred to it...
i'm not worried about O though, we have many stable rock solid custom roms and currently with good camera, and those probably will release O way before OOS on any device.

I'm more worry about the hardware side. oneplus has stop production for BOTH the 3t and 3 now. I'm using op3 naked since there's no good temper glass available. So if 1 day my op3 went FUBAR, be it the screen or other component, can I still buy replacement part? Sending it to oneplus doesn't work either with their famed service.
Also, ownership of this device will not increase. If one of the dev broke their device, they'll prolly drop supporting their project as well as limited user-base now...
So officially they announced they stopped manufacturing the 3T so now I am holding official outdated phone model within one year of manufacturing what a great move from oneplus seriously I really annoyed right now. Great keep up them coming oneplus.

Hi guys. I own Rk3288 TV Box that runs 5.1 Android. When i try to run IPTV on it, kodi keeps buffering for ages (IPTV tested on other devices and works like a charm). Even loading channels list takes few minutes. I figured that the problem is in the outdated kodi and since i can't install newer versions of kodi on lolipop I would like to update the box's firmware. After some digging i've found that there is no official update beyond 5.1 but i've also found custom 7.1 .2 firmware for Ugoos boxes that run on the same RK3288 chip. I was wondering if i can flash it to my box anyway? Or is it a bad idea?

Very unlikely. You could try and risk a brick but simply relying on the same SoC as reference for custom Ron to install is unfortunately not working. If the PCB and and all its components are identical, it could probably work, but only the SoC is not enough.

There are chinese boxes from different "brands" which are internally 100% identical. If you have a custom Ron for those, there is a high probability this Rom will work for all those devices.
It's a guess and you could still try, but there is a risk of hard bricking the box.
Have you tried to play around with the Kodi buffer settings to get rid of the stuttering?
