Hi, I've tried searching but can't find much for answers. I've got a Fire TV box (version 1) and a couple different fire sticks. How can i tell which version fire stick i have?
Also, the remotes on all of them pretty much seem to get stuck on moving in a direction. For instance, if I hit the down arrow a couple times, it'll keep going down past where it should. Of if I hold down a direction on the remote, it'll go down way past when I let go of the direction button.
Is there any way to fix this? It happens alot over and over and is very annoying.
I hope this is the right place to post this?
Thanks!

To figure out software version: settings>system>about
Under "Amazon Fire TV" the Software version number will appear in right column.
Most recent version numbers:

Remote updates, update procedure at bottom:

Also change the batteries on the remote if I goes flakey.

Hi,
According the instruction of aftvnews, I rooted my aftv. everything looks normal except the remote, since that, the remote gets sensitive. sometimes It will go forward quickly.
what about yours? How can I adjust the remote?
thanks
This happened to me a few weeks ago for a brief period randomly, but only in kodi/spmc. It seem to have corrected itself after a day or two.
Maybe try updating the remote control firmware if you haven't already. There's a guide on this at aftvnews.
Failing that, maybe also try to unpair then re-pair the remote. I know with bluetooth devices generally, this can sometrimes help fix odd issues.
So im not all that tech, savvy. i have tried downloading the settings apk but any time i click on anything it just goes away. I have tried to pair it through the settings / other bluetooth but it doesnt see it... im doing something dumb what is it?

Don't click on anything in the settings app. The default is bluetooth on. I used the other/upper toggle and remote control would no stopped working. Thought FS was bricked.
Search for other bluetooth devices, I held the FN and F1 keys, and selected with the stock remote. Worked on 2 different FS. The pointer arrow is a small circle. " Ultimate 3 button Wheel Mouse Mod. for KODI v16 IPTV and LiveTV" http://ftazeta.com/kodi-xbmc/84586-ultimate-3-button-wheel-mouse-mod-kodi- iptv-livetv.html#post484131 You can use the mouse.xml (v105) to make the keyboard essential. You can even have a volume control where Firestick has none.
on the firestick i had it searching for bluetooth devices, on the controller i pressed fn and f1 and had the blue light blinking. the stick never found the device. i bought two of these for two different firesticks and neither one works.... is this not a bluetooth controller? 2.4g i thought was.
try turning USB debugging off.

I believe I am probably having the same problem with an iPazzPort KP-810-30P keyboard for the fire stick I am trying to use. I install the settings.apk
easily enough but when I am actually in settings, anything I select forces the app to crash. I read somewhere that resetting the fire stick to factory
settings would get it to work but it hasn't. Is there some reason the settings app keeps crashing? All the videos and help I see are from 2 years ago,
so is there some type of conflict with the newest fire stick that won't allow this app to work?
I know a few people have had similar questions but mine is just enough different that I thought I'd ask.
I used to be able to cast from youtube on my macbook air to my first gen fire tv. I sold the mac and now have a Lenovo laptop running windows 10. If I go into youtube (in a chrome browser) and hit the "cast" button one of my three fire tvs doesn't show up & the other two don't work.
Has youtube casting been disabled? Is there a three sided battle going on between Google, Amazon & MS for control over the cast landscape?
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

If it's working on your other fire tvs then logically casting wasnt disabled.
It's happened to me several times. Some fire devices are unavailable on the network and not sure why. I don't think I ever did anything to fix it--just moved on and now, in rare instances I try to cast, all my fire devices appear.
*You might want to try power cycling all them, including your router. See if that works.

it's NOT working on any of my fire tv's. Two of them show up on my laptop; one of them doesn't. But, I can't cast to any of them. So logically I asked the question.
Sorry you're having the same random happenings. I don't think random events are very logical.
Hopefully someone else will have resolved this issue or can confirm that Youtube casting is dead.
I had the exact same problem...and since im on the original firmware. (51.1.1.0) i did Nothing. I stopped using the fire tv. Im just now getting around to completely wiping, re--rooting, and going to install a newer firmware to try to fix it.

I wasn't trying to be snarky when I said "logically" but I did admittedly skim your post and saw devices were showing up (missed the part where you said the ones that did appear werent working.)
Im at work. And I only cast from my phone/tablet. Last time I tried (sometime in the past 2 weeks) it was working.
Still thinking network issue. Try reboot. Another observation--Fire TV casts fine, no lag but I find it's inconvenient for me. From the time I hit the cast button to the time it actually plays the video, for me, takes 30 seconds or more. There are scenarios where it's definitely more convenient but its that long start up time that made me sort of evolve to just opening the YouTube app on aftv.

And I appologize for over reacting and piling on the snark.
I don't think its a network thing since I can cast from my phone but I'll try rebooting everything.
Hi all.
I bought a rooted 1st gen FireTV a couple of years ago & it's been brilliant; I only use it for Kodi and have no interest in anything else. However, I recently started having constant critical low storage issues and faffed about with the box trying to fix it. In doing so, I inadvertently removed some system apps and my FTV no longer goes into sleep mode after a timeout but I've got Kodi working again, and Firestopper is great for auto-launching Kodi and mapping my Home button.
I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the firmware from the current 51.1.4.1? I'm quite tech-literate but not with Android. The FTV boots into RBox's Boot Menu v1.0 and I'm not sure where to go from there in terms of ROMS, updates etc. I spent about 8 hours last night researching everything and my head is spinning!
Is it worth upgrading? If not, does anyone know why my FTV no longer goes into sleep mode when not in use?
Cheers
Gary
Hello everyone! I have a basic, stock, NON-ROOTED FireTV. It is completely stock, and the FireTV box has already been replaced once for a new one for this exact problem...
So here's what's happening, anytime I watch something on my FireTV like Hulu or Netflix, the FireTV stops responding to any remote signals.
I think it's my FireTV's fault and NOT my remote's fault because I have brand new batteries in the remote.
This is incredibly irritating as you can tell because the only way to fix this is to complete unplug the entire FireTV, and that's difficult since it's hard to reach there.
Anyway, has anyone heard of this happening?
Thanks!

My 2nd gen fire tv does this every once in a great while. All I do is pull 1 battery and put it back in. That fixes it immediately. I'm not sure why they lose sync with each other.

mine used to be absolutely perfect the first year i had it, then i think around the time the homescreen layout changed that's when this non-responsive stuff started happening with that firmware update.
