Completely unresponsive suddenly after normal use - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My tablet appears to be completely unresponsive with no signs of life whatsoever after a day of normal use.
After taking my Tab S out after my commute, the screen appears to have no power, no lights come on with button presses or charging.
I have tried holding the power button, and holding power+volume+home, but the indicator light and the buttons at the bottom do not even light up.
My first guess was that it was the battery, I have tried various different chargers, but there is no indication of it even connected to something.
I am running the stock rom, no water/fall damage, it was working fine until an hour or so before the problem. The one year warranty ran out in August.
Any advice at all on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try this?

Thanks a ton. Almost everywhere I looked, they insisted the volume up button was used with the power and home button, but it seems to be fixed after using volume down from that link (didn't connect to a computer as they said though).
But again, thanks for the link. Glad it was such a simple solution! :good:

For future reference hard reset is simply hold POWER + VOL DOWN

[Q] I have a black screen after trying to root my Galaxi S3 SGH- I747M

I was in the process of rooting my Samsung S3 with Odin3, everything was going well, I was following the steps from theunlokr.com .. it looked like all the processes were done but at the end the screen never came on. I keep pressing the power button still don’t turn on. I hold the 3 buttons at the same time (Vol Up+Home+Power) nothing happen.
I press the on/off button and it plays the start up ring shows the Samsung logo and then it goes black.
Can anyone help please, I hope I can fix it ASAP, need my phone for work. Can't understand what went wrong.
Need your help
Thank you!!
First mistake was using a site other than XDA to root your phone. Pull the battery and hold the power putton for about ten seconds. Put the battery back in, hold the down volume button + the home button + the power button until you feel it vibrate and then let go of the power button while holding the home and volume down buttons. It should go into download mode and ask you to confirm by pressing the up volume button. If this works then using Odin on the computer to flash back to stock rooted.

Some solid ROMs include: CNA (codenameandroid), Kyan, CM.
I used to use BlackJelly as my daily-driver, but couldn't do without the AllShareCast functionality, so I'm back to stock-rooted, until I find a ROM that both looks awesome and supports AllShareCast.

[Q] [ION] Please help with possible hard brick, I've read other threads

Hi, today while I was browsing on Firefox, the app closed by itself and the home screen got distorted (the wallpaper got black and some icons started to show up in the background). Since it has happened before, twice in the last week, I tried to reset the phone. However this time the phone did not turn on. I put it in the charger and the LED is also not turning on. I've had it plugged in for about 9 hours now and the LED is still off and the phone is not even getting warm, like it usually does when it's charging. The charger is also not warming up, and when I tried to connect the phone to the computer USB port, Windows doesn't report any power consumption.
I've read some threads about bricking, so I know people mention longer times to get the LED turn red, but is it normal that it doesn't warm up and doesn't suck any power from a USB port?
For anyone familiar with AT&T operations, if I sent it as warranty replacement, would they bother running diagnostics? I have it with LT28i .68 firmware, rooted and with CWM.
Also, is there a way to retrieve the data from the internal SD card? I tried connecting it to the computer and nothing happened. Nothing happens when I press either volume button + power button. An nothing happens when I connect it to the computer pressing either volume button.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Have you tried the Hard reset?
Holding Power Button and Volume button together for at-least 3-5 seconds and you would feel 3 vibration.

I tried that too, the phone also doesn't respond.
Does ION has removable battery? If yes try to remove it for a while.
If not. Then try the buttons combo with the phone connect to charger...

The Ion doesn't have a removable battery. I already tried all combinations of power+volume buttons, while disconnected and connected to the charger, and nothing. Maybe the battery somehow got disconnected internally, I don't know if that's even possible.
I've called AT&T, they'll send another warranty replacement, the second replacement I get. Hopefully this one will last enough at least for an early renewal.
I don't know if AT&T still does this but back when I was in the states last year I had them give me an early upgrade because two of the handsets they gave me were faulty (original and one replacement). Try talking to CS Reps sometimes it pays off. You might be able to get an early upgrade if you tell them how this can't keep happening you have important data blah blah blah.
Anyways good luck!

[Q] Power button hyper-sensitive

Hi all,
I've had some problems with my S3 power button. It's behaving like it's being pressed when it isn't. Just slightly brushing it, without depressing the button, is registering a press. Pressing the button is behaving like the button is being held.
I've read a number of possible fixes. I tried software options, just to be sure (cleared cache, factory reset). But this is almost certainly a hardware problem.
I stripped the phone down and the physical button itself looks absolutely fine. It is interacting as it should with the internal button on the motherboard. The issue seems to be that the internal button attached to the motherboard (the little white button) is registering clicks even when it's not being fully depressed.
The phone did have some water damage about 6 months ago. I wonder if this could be causing the the phone to mess up now?
I even tried a fix that many people seem to think works: smacking the crap out of the power button itself. It had no affect on my phone - I think that "fix" that is for a power button that is stuck depressed and not a power button registering phantom clicks/being hyper-sensitive.
So I suppose I have the following questions:
1) Has anyone else experienced similar problems and, if so, did they get it fixed?
2) My plan is to try replacing the motherboard/logic board and see if that helps. Does that sound like the best fix or is it overkill?
3) If I'm replacing the motherboard, does it need to be an I747 motherboard or will any S3 model work fine?
4) What's the best source for a motherboard? I don't mind if they're used or refub so long as they work.
Any advice you can offer is welcome.
Cheers.

I had the exact same problem with mine, and unfortunately there's not much you can do about it as it's a hardware defect. I haven't tried replacing motherboards or anything, so that might help you. What I did to help with the problem was rerouting my power button to my volume up key so that I can use the power button as little as possible. The only time I use the power button now is when I need to power it on - which causes reboot loops sometimes.

Sucks.
I like the sound of your work around, though. Was it pretty simple rerouting the power button?

Ditto, my power button is borked too. Ended up doing the same thing but I don't use my power button at all. I just use rom toolbox to reboot system/into recovery
Rerouting was simple for me as it's baked into the settings in the rom I'm on (ground zero) as it is with most custom ROM'S I've been on. If you're just running stock I'm sure there's an app in the market that'll work however I'm drawing a blank ATM

I'm running CM.
I've had a look through the routing options. What I can't locate is a way to disable the power button completely. My main problem right now is the phantom clicks. I'd rather that button be dead.
Anyone know of a way I can make that happen in CM?
Nevermind. I just physically removed the power button. That did the trick.
For anyone interested, you can replace a faulty power button on the motherboard pretty easily and the parts are cheap. If I wasn't due an upgrade in 4 months I'd probably do that. No need to replace the whole motherboard.
Does anyone know the app to reroute the button? I too have the same problem.

[Q] S6 Edge refuses to power on.

Hello, I've been using the T Mobile S6 Edge since the day it came out not had a single issue with it. Well today I unplugged it and used it for about two hours straight (browsing reddit in bed). I then turned the screen off and went to make a coffee, pulled the phone out to dial a number and nothing. Pressed home, pressed power, pressed and held home and power and power and volume up. Nothing. Just put it in the charger and no response. The heck is going on? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
Go to a tmobile store and exchange it. Same thing happened to a friend of mine.

Next time, hopefully there won't be a next time, this happens, try putting the phone in the download mode. Turn off the phone and press volume down, home, and power. Then press volume down not up to restart your phone.

OK I'll try that since that may have been the only button combination I didn't try. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, what you're describing happened to me the other day. At first, I thought my battery died or something but ruled that out. Holding the power button didn't work so I figured I would put it in the download mode and restart that way. I've had this happen to me on rare occasions with other Android devices I've owned so I don't think it's unique to this particular device. It's just weird and kinda scary.
Cheers for the tip Vanessaem :good: My S6 refused to switch on & on my old phone S2 I used to just remove & re~instore the battery & switch it back on, but obviously we can't do that with the S6 so I was confused So I tried your button combination :victory:
For future reference, Vol Down and power for about 10sec will force a power down.

OP3 does not power on

Has anyone experienced this?
I had many apps opened in the background and Spotify would not play music so that I decided to turn off the device. After that the phone just wont power on. At the time I did that the battery was around 90%.
I tried going into recovery mode and the phone will bot power on.
Any ideas of how I can fix this?
Thanks in advance
I had similar problem. Oneplus support had me connect phone to computer USB with charging cable. Wait a while. Then press power button and volume control at same time for at least 30 seconds. Also I should try pressing power button for more than 30 seconds. After several long attempts at this, the phone came to life. I'll be interested if this works for you.
just flash with msm download tool. if it's software issue, it will help.
My phone did same, push power button 20secs and it comes back to life.. Repeat couple times if dosnt work..
Thank you everyone. I tried everything and the phone is literally dead.
I also contacted customer support and I was told to do the above steps and nothing.
I never did anything to break it. I think it will be the last OnePlus I will ever buy. I had problems with the OP2's home button as well.

Tried holding power button + volume up button for few secs?
Keep power button pressed for 10-15 seconds. Then again try to switch on normally. See if turns on.
