Hey guys. Can y'all help me figure out what's sulking my battery? The phone is not sleeping at all.

Thanks Urban. Will try when I get home this evening and report back if it fixes the issue.

Hey Urban. I tried reinstalling Play services and it's still sticking battery like crazy. Do you have any other ideas? The phone is literally not sleeping at all. I'm wondering if there might be any good non-root apps out there that can identify what's keeping the phone awake?

I'm having the exact same issue and at the point where the battery is draining so bad that even when plugged in, it still counts down. I'm going to back everything up and attempt a factory reset and I'll let you know if it helps at all.

My battery started sucking again too. It was ok last week, but started draining fast this week.
Make sure you give your phone like 3 days before reporting success or failure after your factory reset.

Hey thanks bro. Please let me know what happens. I can hardly wait for 6.0 to come out. Doze will put a lot of this craziness to rest and improve battery life greatly

Alright so the back up, reset, and restore went smoothly. And the battery is at least counting upward when plugged in so I think I'd call that some pretty intense progress. Though even then it not definite proof that it works 100% how I'd like it to, it's too soon to tell. I'll keep everyone updated if it starts acting up over the next few days.
Did u just back up your apps and data via Google?

Nawh I used Samsung smart switch on my computer, though I think everything was already backed up regardless through Google so I had it in 2 places. Either way I got everything I needed back and so far my battery isn't doing so bad.

Ok cool. I might consider trying that. Would you mind reporting back in a couple of days and let me know if the battery seams to be doing any better? I hate to go through the pain of a factory reset unless it looks like it will help... lol

Well I can say for sure that the battery is better than it was. I still have all the same apps and use it just as much as I did - if not more. I charge it to 100% before leaving the house for the day and usually the phone would be dead before I got home but it's currently at 32%, so it's progress. Used to be at like 70% when I got home before the update but at least it gets me through the day. I think it's worth giving a try.

I had a thought as to what might be causing my battery drain. I'm wondering if it might be because I don't have a SIM card in the phone? I have been using my nexus 5 as a daily driver for the last couple weeks. I'm wondering if because the phone doesn't have a SIM that it's constantly searching for a signal or trying to maintain connection to at&t's servers for software updates or something? Do you think this may be what's keeping the phone from sleeping?

Honestly I couldn't tell you for sure but I do have a SIM and the phone is constantly for me too. I assume that there's a bigger problem that we still don't know about that is preventing the phone from sleeping.

Coincidentally I also got an update in the security policy for my phone from at&t and it said it changed around app permissions so maybe it kept them from staying awake because I just checked the graph thing and my phone isn't awake as much. Right now there are too many factors to single out what one thing it is that is helping the issue.
I was having the exact same issues. At work I was sitting at my desk and after about a half hour, with my phone in my pocket and not touching it, my leg would start to feel warm. So, since I'm not allowed to pull my phone out and look at it, I waited till I was on break. In 2.5 hours my phone went from 98% to 68%. So, I restarted my phone and went back to work. After an hour, my leg started warming up again. I tried to ignore it but I was getting scared it might blow up in my pocket. I went to the bathroom to just shut the phone off until break and it was at 36% after just 2 more hours.
This all started after the 5.1.1 update and only at work. So I downloaded Gsam Pro and Usage Timelines Pro and tried to find out what was going on.
Turns out it only was happening when I was at work AND had Bluetooth turned on. I guess that's because I turn on Bluetooth while at work to watch movies off my Plex Server and listen with my Bluetooth headphones. I turned off Bluetooth and use my tablet (running 5.1.1 with 0 problems) at work instead. So far so good and it's been a week.
I would like to point out that in 8 hours at work, before the upgrade, my phone used to go from 100% to 75 with light usage and bad wifi signal. It's now back to those percentages after turning Bluetooth off.
Also, neither battery monitoring program showed Bluetooth as the culprit.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
I have had my Bluetooth settings turned off today. The phone seems to be sleeping perfectly and I've had 3.5 hrs SOT with 35% battery left. Considering much of the SOT was gaming I think that's pretty acceptable.

Is this normal for the GN? Do I have a faulty device? On wifi, my download speeds are horrible for this type of device. At home, I have comcast broadband, and a comcast router. My GS2 destroyed downloads at a ridiculous rate. We're talking MBs a second. Full wifi signal. My GN barely holds 3 bars. Consistently downloading at a couple hundreds kb/s
Before you say anything, no it's not my router. I've 2 laptops, a PS3, a kindle, and a TV, all hooked up to the router, and they've no problem.
If this is the way it's going to be, and exchanging the device won't help, I guess I'll cancel verizon, and head to sprint and pick up another sg2. IDK.
Anything guys? For a device like this to be faulty in an area like downloads via wifi, especially when verizon charges up the butt for data, it's unacceptable.

I am actually going to say it. It could be your router. The GN is finnicky as hell with wifi channels. Wifi channels will affect signal strength, stability of connection, and speed of intarwebz.
Now before you say it: Not all wifi chipsets and devices are created equally. It is a phone, it doesn't exactly have a hi gain antenna in it
For a $750 phone, you think the parts would be equal to other phones. If it is my router, I have like 6 other devices on it that work just fine, so I think it I can safely blame it on the phone. Deal breaker I think.

To each their own.
To not even consider my suggestion of checking out other wifi channels is a disservice to the device and yourself.

Sounds like you should swoop an iPhone. If you are using a N Draft router you need to select a certain channel range (Google it, you'll find it). I pull 10-20 MBPs on WiFi. Its not that hard to change your wifi channel btw.
Ya well I had a gs2 and absolutely no problems. This phones a bit laggy, battery life seems much worse, even with juice defender. Paying more per month for it. I guess I expected more.

Here's a question, with data disabled, and only text messaging, why did my battery drain 5% in 6 minutes? I literally stood and had a conversation and looked at my phone, and it went from 38% to 33% in 6 minutes. This is also the extended battery
In fact, it just drained 3% in the time it took me to write this post out.
Ridiculous.

If it took 3% to post this, you are either the world's slowest typer or lying. I am sorry but you lost your credibility with me when you refused a simple suggestion that would have taken you all of 3 minutes to test and instead decided to bash the device. Your agenda was not to come here for help.

Yes I did come here for help. I would have liked another suggestion other than one pertaining to messing with my router channels. Which in turn would probably interfere with the other 6 devices on my router and I'd end up going around in a circle.

What other solutions did you think you would find for your device? A cantenna? Changing channels is the first thing you should try in these cases.
Could we have determined that maybe something is wrong with your device? Sure. But you can't teach someone who knows it all.

Whatever dude. Battery in this thing sucks. Not worth it. I have to be afraid to turn on my Nexus or my battery will drain. I timed it for about 20 minutes. All I was doing was moving around in my settings and in my phone, no browsing, no games, etc. My battery drained 1% every 2 minutes, probably take a few seconds. Just to roam around my phone, my battery was dying practically by the minute. This is with the extended battery and NOW juice defender ultimate. No network, wifi only, full brightness.
Why would I lie? I have no reason to lie. Truly I was looking for answers at first, then you got all upset because this phones your baby. If this phone's charge lasts you all day, you apparently don't use it the way it was made to be used.
I'm now turning on auto brightness which will obviously make a difference, but will totally offset the ENTIRE point of purchasing this device, which is the screen and it's beauty. That is, unless you're sitting right next to a charger.
Whatever. No help here.

Changing wireless channels is normal troubleshooting for any wireless device with connection issues. I got upset because this phone is my baby? Mine works. Not upset in the least!
I used to do Microsoft support when I was younger--
You know what we used to do with difficult folks like you who refused to try troubleshooting due to them 'knowing' so much? Format their machines and send them on their way. You just can't help those who know it all. Why ask for help if you already know everything?
Move on, Mr. Troll. Another device awaits you.

if you had tried the suggestion of changing wifi channel, people would continue to help. if you cant even understand/are willing to try basic troubleshooting, you are right... there is no help for you. no one wants to deal with someone who wont even think about trying suggestions.
battery drain issue
I started experiencing the same kind of battery drain issue you're talking about (if I was reading a kindle with screen brightness at minimum in airplane mode my battery would last less than an hour, and that was extended life battery) and it turned out I had a bad phone. Verizon replaced it (finally, after I showed them a screen dying with dead pixels and off colors) and my battery life increased. But not as much as I would have liked! Turned out bad phone ruined my extended life battery. Got a new one, no longer have "battery anxiety" - maybe call the company, explain what's happening, and try a replacement before you decide "all" GNEX are crap.
WIFI reach on phone is not as good as on my Galaxy 10.1 Tab, but my D/L speeds are pretty much consistent with everything else on network, so all your problems could be the same.
LOL @ This epic fail of a thread. The OP is beyond help as there's no helping the intentionally obtuse.

So my least favorite part about running custom roms on this phone is the "freeze at 45%, reboot to 6%" bug. Does anyone know if this is ever going to be fixed? Or if it is even a real"bug"? Do other phones experience this or just Galaxy S? I don't remember it being an issue when I ran stock, though honestly it was probably only for like a week.

Because this question does not retain to the Atrix 4G (though I am curious as to whether the flashable in that thread would work on cm9 for our phones.) and the other thread you posted is just more lames like you thinking this problem has been solved for the Epic. Now the whole point of a forum is to be able to ask questions in Q+A because others might know the answer already.. but I HAVE googled this (yes even with the site:xda-developers.com filter) and all I can find as far as the epic goes is people telling others to plug their charger in while its off to calibrate it. That doesn't help if you don't have a charger and it doesn't answer my question about whether or not it will be truly fixed for the epic and not "handy manned".. so basically unless you can post a thread that has a flashable software fix or a thread containing above said fix for this then please don't bother and keep your smart ass responses to yourself.

Your lucky... I've had it run down to 2-3%. It sucks when your nowhere near a charger.
never had a problem running my battery all the way down to 1% with the stock 1500mah and the et4g 1800mah batteries. I do remember a couple of the GB leaks that would occasionally shutdown before they hit 5% but lets be honest, that was expected of buggy leaks. Since moving to CM7/CM9/AOKP zero battery issues. Sure, some days i barely make it through the day off the charger, but most days i'm good to go. I do on occasion see the "reboot your phone with 40% battery and boots back up at 15%" "bug" but i don't reboot my phone that often like that, normally i'll shut it down and don't have that issue.

Yeah I've never had it just die on me because it was reporting juice and was actually dead.. and I'll have to test and see if it does it when I do a complete shutdown cause I almost never shut it down. Almost always involuntary reboots for me that come back up with anywhere from 2%-20% .

I've ran mine down to literally 0% it shows an X for battery and it was still on and running but i soon shut it off so i could charge it haha
OP, are you undervolting? If so that is the probable cause of you freezes when your battery gets under 50%. It is not a glass full of energy. Percentage is a direct correlation to voltage. 100% is 4.2V, I believe 0% is 3.7V. As you get below 50% that undervolting will drop even further. As for the percentage fifference it is usually a false reading based on the heat of the battery lowering the voltage reading during the intense drain of rebooting. Usually taking the battery out for a few minutes to cool will bring it back to the 40% or so.

First off, I may have misunderstood your question, but I did provide a response, regardless. Responding as an ungrateful tool is unnecessary.
And as to not "pertaining" to the Atrix, you DID ask if other phones were affected.
But to the point, I mistook your question to be simply asking why the phone misreads the battery level upon reboot as mentioned:

I see now that you quite literally mean that your phone is failing to report below a certain level until it dies. To answer your question, I've never seen this, but it would help if you would provide basic information.
1. Rom Tested
2. Undervolting/Overclocking settings
3. Any additional changes you've made after installing a rom
This doesn't sound like a typical battery reporting error others have experienced. Are you undervolting?
P.S. Grow a sense of humor. You'll live longer.

Sorry I jumped down your throat. No undervolting. But anyway the purpose of this thread isn't really to find out why I'm getting reboots (though I appreciate you guys trying to help me find that out too) but rather to find out why my battery drains so much afterwards. So yes you were correct in your original assumtion.
Edit: my excellent meme reference is proof of my sense of humor.

Fair enough ;-).
All I can say is that with the full battery circle mod, rebooting often shows a really low percentage. If you leave it, it usually slowly rises back to where it should be... not sure that's your problem.

I understand what the OP is saying, and I too have this problem. Mostly when I go to cwm and return. My battery sometimes goes from a 60 or even 70 to a 5-19%. Its not all that's bad of a problem because I know that I have more than that in my battery. But it makes the phone scary because you never know when it'll blow up on you lol.

Exactly. and today I did a little experiment. I drained to 50% percent and did a manual reboot. I did like kenny and random suggested and let it cool down before I rebooted and while it was better.. it was still not correct... I rebooted to around 25%. Now the atrix folks in that forum apparently have a flashable software fix for this that works. Does anyone wanna take that apart and see if they can work for us? Sorry this just seems so fixable I'm honestly surprised that with our kickin dev community nobody's worked on it.

Funnily enough that you mention this, I'm not sure that I've ever had a battery misread on my extended batteries. Not %100, as I don't use them as often, but it's a thought.

I need to convince sprint to give me one. Last time they were not being cooperative. I shall look into it. Thanks for the responses guys.
I have had issues with my old extended battery on multiple roms not reading correctly. no matter what i did on both foryo and gb so far have had good luck with the 1800. i have also had issues of rebooting on with my extended.
Need to know if anyone else is having this issue and if it's hardware related or just at&t tower related.
I'm regularly getting a censor type logo where my signal bars would normally be (it's a circle with a line through it) basically saying I have no network connection, similar to if you were to take out your sim card. This doesn't seem to be related to signal because it will happen out of the blue and I'll have 4 bars prior. It only lasts for 5-20 seconds, then kicks back in. I haven't had any data drops, but when this happens, I can't call, text, do anything.
Has anyone else experience this? Need some input because I have two days left in my return window and was going to swap it out for a new unit if this sounds like a hardware defect.
Had the phone on for 2.5 hours and was without mobile network for 7% of that time according to cell standby stats. Doesn't seem normal.

Only other phone we got is my mom's basic flip phone. I still have two days to swap it out and had at&t tech make note of what's going on on my account, just wondering if this was a issue on their part of my phone's.
I'm in central NJ and in nyc for school (NJ right now) so i'm in a strong service area, but the phones just dropping the network randomly. I can be on xda browsing one second and have that symbol up the next.
Yea, i'd say try swapping it out first, that being probably the easier option at the moment. Then again, if they already have a note of it, they'd know it's a recurring issue should it happen again shortly thereafter.... so i don't think that would be a problem then, either Either way, better to be safe than sorry.

I already flashed back to stock and got everything on dropbox, so if I can I'm gonna go the new phone route. I'd rather know it's something with the towers around here then find out it's my s3 after my return period is up, ya know.
But have you guys ever had this issue like at all? Cause this happens quite often on my phone, once every ten minutes at least, usually more.

It's not your phone.
It's happened to both of my devices (one replacement due to crashing) while I'm at my cottage. (No service zone)
It's the towers.

But I'm in a strong service zone, HSPA+ where I'm at, and 4GLTE a few towns over. Dropping service while at your cottage in a no service zone is a bit different I'd think.
It's worth getting a replacement just in case.

I experienced that issue when I was using Juice defender. For some reason my phone went to airplane mode quite few times. If it would have happened frequently, then I would have thought that I somehow messed the settings for juice defender. It started happening abruptly. After uninstalling that app, I haven't seen that occurring again on my phone. At least for me it was the app rather than the phone that was causing my phone to go to airplane mode.

Yup yup...OP, if you have Instant Upload turned on, more than likely your phone was uploading all your pictures and videos to G+ last night. If you didn't have it connected to wifi, it would eat your phone in no time.

I wonder which Samsung engineer came up with the idea of adding a app that literarily sucks the power out of the phone, and impossible to kill without any sw mods.
From 100% to 70 in 1,5 hr, with NO virtual use, and im not even signed in to any Google apps at all, disconnected pos features.
And the best part, it takes 8 hrs to fully recharge :good:
How come Apple manage to triple the battery time with NO power saving features, a bunch of active push apps, average use like calling, sms, social apps etc, with almost half the battery capacity on their Iphone? Beats me!
Yesterday i had a fully charged S3 9 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, its was 15% left, and i hadnt even touched it

And which magical app are you referring to that those blasted Samsung engineers have foisted upon ye?
Apple, tripled battery life? Where?
Well, arent we talking about Google+ in this thread?
You need to update the Google plus app, that might help a bit. I have the app and actually use it, and I do not have a drain like that. You may have some other apps helping to the drain.
Also check if you ever clicked the app. If you did be sure you turned off instant upload.
And last, it seems like where you live you have poor service, like me. That is a big cause of battery drain. It is always searching for signal and going in and out of roaming takes battery.

Well, the phone is 4 days old, and yes it got ALL the latest updates, but i dont want to use G+, i dont like it, and most of all, i dont need it, so why must i have it?
Poor service? No, its just laying around here at home at 100% wifi, like my Iphone, which means its used in the same environment.
But this doesnt seem to be any paricular news for this phone, but i was hoping there was a solution for it. maybe Samsung discovered the issue and fixed it on the S4, excited to see if its any better...
4-6 hrs active use on one charge simply isnt good enough, especially when it takes twice the time to recharge it they have to do better than that...

Correct me if I'm wrong, its been a long time since I've been on stock, but can't you just disable g+ in system apps?
4-6 hours = something other than g+ being an issue.
As for the iPhone, it sounds like a much better fit for you.
If you have it setup to poll your location whenever it wants, turn that off. It is a battery hog.

Hi,
I experience a lot of random shutdowns and reboots on my d855. It often happens when I send a SMS. After I klick the send button, a half second later the phones screen went black and I must take out the battery and wait a bit to reboot it again. But sometimes when I scroll through the interface or play a game or just use my phone the screen freezes and after a couple of seconds the hole phone reboots or turn off as mentioned above.
I have this on all of my roms I tested. Whith and without a custom kernel... Stock, AOSP or CM...
It's really annoying and I don't know what to do against it.
I hope anyone can help me.
Thanks in advance

I tried only Lollipop, it gets hot when it reboots but it isn't hot in the moment it freezes.
Can it be my battery? I have the feeling that when I use my phone plugged in to the charger, that the freezes and reboots are not so often.

There was a guy with similar problems, and he was sure it was his battery. Does your battery act up? for example, when it it reboots/freezes, are battery percentages still around the same? Does your phone complain about your battery? can it be charged to 100%?

I did a clean install of the stock lg Rom with the flashing tool. But it didn't helped.
I had installed the ctt mod but it didn't start especially after that.
My charging cable had a loose connection, can this be that the battery didn't charge really to 100%. I don't know how the battery is built

Okay so today I received the new battery and magic, my phone could finally start without being plugged! So happy!!

I guess the problem was from there, but I still wonder what could have screwed up the old battery, especially after upgrading to lolipop..

I don't mean to hijack this thread but i have the same problem with my g3.
Lg g3 d855 android v 4.4.2
Rooted, bumped with twrp
Everything Stock
Xposed framework installed and a few modules enabled
So this random reboots started about two weeks ago out of nowhere.. I did no "change" to my phone. Rooting n everything else was done about 4 months ago and my phone was working fine until recently.
Constant reboots...and they won't stop unless i plug in my charger. Rwboots would happen randomly and when i try to do a manual reboot, the same thing happens.. So i tried safe mode but it would reboot again unless i plug it in. Disabled xposed, unrooted and still the same.. I noticed the battery voltage would bump to 4.3V(in the app CPU-Z) and Battery would become extremely hot during reboots ,about 43°C.. So i suspect it is an issue with battery.
Did the new battery fix it for you?
