Hi
So, I was trying to install CyanogenMod using this guide: (oh darnit, I'm a new user, so I can't post links. Google Install_CM_for_nicki and the first link will likely be the CyanogenMod Wiki page I followed.)
However, as you've probably guessed, this didn't work quite how it should have...
Probably because I forgot to root. I straight out, didn't root my phone. I unlocked the bootloader like it says in the CyanogenMod Wiki, etc etc, and I believe that I did everything correct in terms of Fastboot, etc, but I forgot to root, which means when I try to install the OS from the .zip on the SD Card, it fails. I can't remember the error, but it's something bad, I can remember that.
I wiped it, which worked, but now I can't install anything
Does anyone have any other ideas? I can provide more details if needed.
Oh, and if it helps, when I do sideload and... sideload the package, everything goes fine (I used TWRP this time instead of CyanogenMod Recovery, and went to Advanced > Sideload) until the error appears, right at the end:
E:Unable to mount '/data'
The whole phone is full of "unable to mount" stuff. This is why I assume that it was a lack of root. The phone doesn't have permissions to access... itself I guess. TWRP then gives me the "Reboot now" button, I press it, the Sony logo comes and goes a bit, the USB cable still plugged in, then I press the volume buttons a bit, then CyanogenMod Recovery appears again... A picture of an Android with the blue apex type thing spins, then the menu appears with an Android lying on the floor, open, with an exclamation mark in a red triangle...
Thanks,
Tom.

Hi There!
Thanks for your advice, but I'm having trouble... Part of me makes me think it's a driver issue, part of me thinks that something's not quite right.
So I do everything as you say, but when I press the flash button, hold the down button, and plug in the USB cable, I get this:

Why do I get the feeling that that's not what's meant to happen...
As for the drivers... I opened the .zip file up, but the only driver .inf file I could see two .inf files. I assume these are the drivers you are talking about?
I did right-click, install for the first (so0104adb.inf) but the second one didn't work, saying there was no security certificate. I haven't tried disabling the enforcement of security drivers on boot into Windows 10 yet, but I'm not sure that it would make a great deal of difference, as I'm not really sure how I'm meant to install them. However, I had a look through Flashtool, and pressed "Devices" > "Check Drivers", and I got this:
21/010/2015 18:10:50 - INFO - List of connected devices (Device Id) :
21/010/2015 18:10:50 - INFO - - *** I changed this out in the post, I get the idea that I'm not meant to post this online... *** USB\ABC_1DEF&PID_012B\0123456789ABCDEF Driver installed : true

Hello,
I recently unlocked the bootloader on my new SE Arc the other day so i could root it. After rebooting the phone it said there was an update available OTA so i updated it not realising that it could seriously damage your phone & it updated, rebooted and now nothing.
It didnt switch on or repond to anything except "Back" and "Power On" - When i done this with the USB attatched i managed to get the x10 Flash tool to work with it so i sent it the LT15i_3.0.1.A.0.145_GenericUK.ftf firmware and it sent fine but the phone still will not switch on!
Now everytime i press the power on button the LED flashes green on the right hand side.
Its the Xperia Arc on Vodafone with version 2.3.2 originally.
Please please can anyone help! Does it mean that it is totally useless now?
Thank you

Did you look at this thread, youre not the only one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106250
I'm not sure if it helps, but i recently bricked my phone but a different way. But it was doing exactly the same as your phone ... the Green LED would flash briefly then nothing happens... what I did was disconnect the battery then powered on to discharge any static charge left in the phone, I then connected the battery and connected it to the mains to fully charge the phone. After that, I re-flashed and disconnected from PC and powered on and booted just fine.
I think you are lucky J has found a fix !

Have you plug in your phone into Flashtool in FlashMode?
Do follow the guide I answered in your another thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038445
See you have any problem...
I'm trying to flash a stock firmware on my new Z1 Compact to get rid of German operator branding (I'm in The Netherlands). This is my first Xperia device but I've flashed Android devices a bunch of times before.
I've checked a couple of guides, downloaded Sony PC Companion, the latest FlashTool and a x.681 Z1c firmware, since that would give me the opportunity to make sure OTA updates still works when the device updates itself to x.757. I've no interest in unlocking the bootloader or obtaining root, just yet.
First I installed just the flash-mode and Z1c drivers for FlashTool but after some more reading I installed all drivers in the driver pack. Also tried multiple firmware images from different sources. Whichever I use, the results is always the same: Processing of loader.sin finished with errors.
I've found some posts referencing this error for different devices, some answers suggesting to install the latest FlashTool and drivers, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on what causes this error (and how to solve it).
I think I'm supposed to see a green led when the device is in flash mode. Instead I get a led that blinks red/green for a (fraction of) a second, and then turns off. FlashTool doesn't complain though and starts the flashing process. Most of the time it takes quite some time 'reading device information' but sometimes it proceeds immediately, the error about loader.sin is always the same though. The processHeader:995 error doesn't appear every time.
Any advice? Since I'm out of ideas...

What is your operating system? Have you tried deactivating anti virus or another computer?
Good news, flashing in progress as I'm typing this
I was using a Windows7 VM (vmware). I've tried the Linux version of FlashTool instead and it's flashing now. Had my share of troubles with USB devices on VMs in the past but usually stuff just didn't work / wasn't detected properly by the VM. Since everything seemed to work and install fine with the Z1c, I didn't suspect VM issues but I should have known better...

While there may be other methods, I would just flash factory FTF with flashtool, root, install clockwork mod, reboot into recovery, wipe cache, data, and dalvik. then restore ROM from SD card.
Is the ROM you want to flash CWM, or TWRP?

Try attaching to another USB port. Also, insert an SD Card into the phone if one isn't there. I've experienced an issue with that before. Try different USB cables as well, since some cables can't carry data.
I use flashtool 0.9.10, so you can also try an older version.
Also, try reinstalling ADB drivers.
Hopefully, some of those suggestions should get it working.
When you turn on the phone, does anything show, or just a blank screen?
Try doing a factory reset with the software from sony even if the phone is not "recognized" it should work. Something similiar happened to mw and it flashed the phone anyway. Flashtool I only use that for custom stuff if my phone ever needs a reset I use Sony's software. Flashtool is supposed to do sonething simuliar but it doesnt always work.

Try a couple more times if that doesnt work try sony erricsson update engine service. If that doesnt work try flashtool again. Do each one more than once. When you reflash keep the phome off usb. Once it says to plug it in hold the back button. On the phome until the led turns green or the reflash starts.
If that doesnt work there is one more solution you can try using abd. Have you used abd command line before?

From your earlier screenshots, you seemed to be flashing 4.0.2.A.0.42. I think zergrush only works on firmware 2.3.3. I believe the one you flashed was 2.3.4 ftf.

You'll have to install Clockwork Mod recovery first. Here's a link. Once it's installed. restart the device, and keep pressing volume down.
