Been lurking a bit, just got my new N7 2013 wifi tablet. Bootloader unlocked. Unrooted
. I am a Nexus 6 owner since pre-order. I really enjoy the full stock Google experience with only root and twrp recovery. Stock rom/kernel is really amazing since the Marshmallow update.
I am looking for
1. pure stock 6.0.0 marshmallow kernel just rootable, I don't care for a modified Uber kernel. No over clocking, no multi window, no bells and whistles. Just want the original rootable.
2. Nexus 6 marshmallow stock launcher, basically I want my phone and tablet to behave exactly and look exactly the same. The tablet version on the N7 is old horizontal lollipop style.. do not like. Really don't care to use a custom launcher. Much prefer the stock N6 launcher ported to the N7 but with landscape home screen rotation like usual.
Thanks

To anyone who comes across this i found the launcher issue resolved by simply installing the newest Google Now Launcher from the play store. Now my Nexus 7 looks and behaves the same as my Nexus 6. Not sure why the Now launcher wasn't included in the 6.0 Google factory image for the N7 because it was on the N6.
Still looking for an unmolested stock 6.0 kernel with only root modification. Thanks

Hi,
Google now was never in factory image for N7, donĀ“t know why...
You can find stock kernel here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344
then flash SuperSu 2.52 via TWRP

ok, so im not new to android mods, rom flashing, kernel flashing or any of that jazz...
ive had many android devices over the years and will continue to have more as long as android doesnt flop.. but i doubt that happening
my issue is this, i have a bone stock TW rooted i317m on 4.1.2, it has been unlocked using the perso sha method, and has been modified to work with wind mobile in ontario via the .qcn file flash method... the device is operating just fine, no problems...
what i want from this device is customization and the question im asking hopefully will be answered with respect and NO newb bashing or ignorance
this is my first note based device... i fell in love with all the TW features that relate to the s-pen and best photo/best face.. i want to install custom rom, and kernel, but im afraid im going to lose all the feature that i bought the note for...
i know about the apps "CM S-Pen detection add-on" & "S-Pen Helper"
but i dont want to lose most importantly the camera features, and id like to still be able to use s-note and such, but im not sure if this is possible unless using a TW stock rom
any ideas??
there are tw based roms like clean rom, best international (using this one)
if you flash a aosp rom all the tw stuff is gone!
I personally dont use half the tw stuff so i might flash an aosp rom soon just for fun. But I have a galaxy nexus to play around with as well
ok so i flashed clean rom,
now my next question
is there a sphere mode camera mod available,
i really miss this from my galaxy nexus when it was running PA3+, i busted the lcd and glass,
got my note 2 now, and would love to see this come to it

Clean rom is real good if you just want a debloated version of stock. Real fast and stable. It was my daily driver for a while.
I am really into all the customization so I am running JEDI and NOVELLA now. Both are TW based and have a ton of MODs out for it.
As for the camera 4.2 is good too
Hey folks,
my Nexus 7 just arrived and I am wondering what the first steps should look like.
I am not completely unfamiliar with Android, as I owned a Samsung Galaxy a few years ago, but since then I didn't really have had any more contact with it.
What I'd like is to install a nice custom rom, which is simple yet good looking and has a good battery runtime, etc.
As far as I know the Google stock Android is rather smooth so it could also be a modified original rom. I'm not sure about de-odex vs. odexed. What would be preferable?
Can you suggest the best ROM for that purposes? Ideally it should have a readme on how to install
Also do I need to unlock bootloaders or root the phone in advance or does the custom rom does all that for me?
Thanks in advance and best regards,

WiFi, 2013 Version.
To start with I just installed the Google USB Drivers and that Android SDK ADT Package thingy (all-in-one with Eclipse, etc.). Hope that's right xD
Edit: wugfreshs' tool seems to be the way to go. However, I am still unclear on whether or not to update my N7 with the newest update? I just got a message that there are updates available...
Edit2: Well, seems easy enough to use. Driver Test was successful, so I'll just go ahead and unlock/root it. Would appreciate ROM suggestions though
If you don't want me be messing with it I'd say stock rooted is the way to go.
Odex files help apps load faster I believe, and Roms are de-odexed to allow customizations such as icons and theming.
I really recommend sticking with a stock rooted ROM. Android is so polished theses days I don't see the need to mess with a good thing.

It's basically Stock but with minor improvements (pre-rooted, init.d support, slimmed down etc.)
Well if I was you the first thing I would do is update my stock rom then the next thing I would do is root the tablet with the Nexus root toolkit toolkit provided by WuGFresh.
Use the root toolkit to install the USB drivers then to unlock the bootloader there to root your Nexus 7 tablet
After your tablet is rooted load up the Google Play Store and download the app multi rom manager this app will allow you to to install Multi rom which will allow you to install multiple roms on your Nexus 7 tablet and it will also install TWRP recovery manager for you as well.
When you have multirom installed you can add a second third or fourth rom without ever touching or harming your stock ROM. As for a custom ROM I just flashed CyanogenMod 11 on my Nexus 7 2013 model Flo WiFi only tablet. Just download the latest nightly to get Android 4.4.1 or you can go with 10.2 for a "stable" ROM but the nightly is working great.
When you flash CyanogenMod don't forget to flash Google apps the GApps zip file.
As for adding ROMs with multirom you can do a YouTube search for the exact steps...bit it is quite easy. CyanogenMod or CM rather is the Cadillac of Android Roms and looks/runs great.
As for others I would probably recommend AOKP I have heard good things about it...
Many people like Paranoid Android. I tried it but did not care for it. I did not care for the rom not being rooted, but that is just my opinion.
You can't go wrong with CyanogenMod ROM.
Hope it helps and congrats on getting your N7.

Thanks for all the help.
So a long while ago now I got me a smart new Nexus 7 (2013) and rooted and installed Xposed (currently running GB).
Anyhow, I neglected to update my device to 4.4.2 at the time when it hit the notifications bar because of some issues I'd heard about. However, now I'm thinking, hey most apps will be optimized, including Xposed modules, but then this sprung into my mind....
Will updating my rooted/Xposed Nexus mess it all up?
I went from JB to KK months ago and run xposed for a lot of things. I am currently on Purity Rom but was on rooted stock. I haven't had any issues and have never said "wish I was still on Jellybean" to myself.
If you have custom recovery you can always make a nandroid backup and revert.
You will have to reinstall xposed and your modules but I use Titanium Backup and never had an issue.
If you are already using GB there is a version for 4.4.2 that's as good if not better. IMHo.
Rooted and installing Xposed the sky is the limit in terms of themes and roms.

It's been a while since I have updated my nexus
And I'm here befuddled by all the roms but I'm still on the kit Kat boot loader..
What was the last official boot loader?
And if you have a link for a twrp .zip I would be forever grateful.
Any opinion of the best bare bones slim style marsh mellow Rom? (I'm still using liquid smooth 444)
(Yes I think I'll update to marshmallow since I still require xposed support)
Thank you for any info.
6.0.1 (MOB30X)
You can find all of the factory images here: https://developers.google.com/android/images
As for ROMs, I'm still on stock. It does everything I need it to, but then, the N7 isn't my primary tablet now. I really only use it like a big remote for the Chromecast on my TV.
Hi all,
I have an M9 (CID HTC_102), which is unlocked. I'm running the latest unmodified stock ROM (4.28.401.3) and haven't touched the bootloader. Since I can't upgrade my phone anytime soon, and this phone probably isn't going to get any more updates, I'm looking for a ROM that's as close to stock Android, or better, Pixel (I use Nova Launcher at the moment, so a launcher isn't really a problem).
One of the ROMs I saw is Lineage. Is this the best one that fits the criteria? As I understand, it will also install some apps, but I prefer to use the Google ones (especially an unmodified version of the dialler for caller ID, and the camera app, which I can't use at the moment because my cpu is 810). Will I be able to uninstall them?
Also, what would be the best way to root?
Thanks in advance!
