Flash a Stock 5.x with TWRP? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Folks,
I've a HTC m8 on 4.4.1 rooted. I'm allover lucky, But for some reasons I wanna upgrade to 5.x
Is there a way to flash ist with TWRP to a Stockrom by HTC?
Thx for helping...

There is no 4.4.1 for the M8. The M8 was released with 4.4.2.
You will run into issues (broken WiFi, extreme long boot times) if you try to install a Lollipop ROM. You need to update the firmware (hboot radio, etc.), also.
Need your CID and main version to know how to proceed. Do getvar all, and post the results, being sure to delete IMEI and serial number, as these are personal data.
Depending on what CID version you have, you can either RUU to update firmware and install stock Lollipop ROM; otherwise you will need to restore you stock ROM (unrooted) stock recovery, then OTA to update the firmware and update to Lollipop.

Uhhh mam, all this just to give n7player the ability to access id3 tags on external SD. But I badly need to.
Thx for helping!

Ah I forgot to say. Due to freshly moved, I can't plug to any PC and can't make a getvar. Sry.

So it looks like you rooted on Android 4.4.3 (software number 2.22.401) and never installed a custom ROM? That sound right?
Does it say hboot 3.17 on the bootloader screen? S-on or s-off?
Depending on your answers the above questions, your options:
1) Restore stock nandroid you made before root (if you made one) otherwise restore the appropriate stock nandroid from collections here on XDA. Restore stock recovery. Once restored to "stock", install official OTA updates to bring the phone up to Lollipop. From there, you can flash TWRP back to the phone, and root if you like.
2) I think there is a 4.16.401 RUU that will work s-on (need to relock bootloader if s-on). That will get you on stock Lollipop firmware and ROM. Then you can re-unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root again if you like. But be aware that RUU will wipe the phone, so backup any personal data you want to keep before RUU.

Glad you mentioned that. I originally thought you didn't know the difference between what you posted and getvar output, which would be pretty bad!
The screenshots provide some info, but not everything I want, therefore the additional questions above.

I tried yesterday a Cyanogenmod 12.1 by TWRP after Backup. Worked pretty fine. But after all I've been insure about how long it would take to build up a full functional place with all apps and data I already have and need and recovered my backup.
Your other questions I gonna answer as soon.
Edit: HBOOT 3.18 and S-On

Again, thx for helping. I decided to flash CM 12.1 and restored almost via Titanium.
Seems to be a quit good decision.

Update via OTA to JB (with HOX unlocked bootloader, rooted & stock ROM)

So, before do bad thing, I want to know if I can update my HOX via OTA, without re-unlock bootloader or anything else.
Right now,I'm using the stock rom, I only unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery in order to root it.
Thanks

I already do it and nothing. Does anyone know if I update the firmware to 1.36 (my CID is HTC__044) and flash stock boot.img will work? Anyone can provide me just the boot.img file?
And if I flash the stock RUU 2.17.707.3 (which is the one I got) I don't have to update the firmware manually?
All I want is to update to stock JB via OTA.
Thanks.
What is the question?
The fact you got the update means you are good to go. Probably if you boot in bootloader it says re-locked?
The update will update your hboot to 1.36 and firmware to stock 3.14
Where you will lose cwm and root.
If you want root then you need to re-unlock it by cmd and with unlock file you got from the first time.

The question is why I can't update?. As I say already flash stock recovery, and I have the bootloader unlocked.
But what happens when you try to update?

After download the update, the phone reboot and an exclamation red icon appears, then reboot again and you can see that nothing is updated.
Did you got the smaller update too or not? When i flashed stock recovery from RUU i got the small battery update first.
Do you have stock recovery from when you unlocked the phone?

Yes, also I flashed again but nothing. I think that the problem might be that I uninstall some bloatware apps. Anyone know which bloatware apps are updated with the OTA update?
Ah that's the problem, your rom has to be as it came out of the box ! Otherwise it won't work
I should back this rom up and copy it to pc, then run the matching ruu to get back to stock or get the matching nandroid backup in the general section - nandroid backup collection from matt95 !
It's he easiest way in my opinion

download this RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed relock bootloader and run this as administrator update your phone by official way from phone softwrae update to latest JB and then unlock again your bootloader and install custom rom and for CM11 you need latest TWRP 2.7 or latest Philz or latest CWM 2.6 I think.
your HBOOT is to LOW you need at least 1.39 or higher for this roms

All roms work with philz 6 but if you want latest AOSP based rom like CM11 or other you need the latest Philz to not geting any error. And the latest work with the Sense based roms to. You know the rules here I can't recomend ROM try them all and take decision lastest AOSP is JB4.4.4 other sense is 4.2.2 it is your decision and don't forget to make nandroid backup before install new rom
Thanks for all your help Thant, managed to get Beanstalk up and running with a backup
Cheers for your patience

Not able to flash any ROM after flashing SlimKat

Hello Community,
I've installed Slimkat 4.4.4 Build 8 some time ago. Now I've wanted to go back to Sense Roms. But now, when I go to the recovery and try to flash a new ROM (after Factory Reset of course) i will be stuck while booting with the HTC-Logo and the red text. But when reflashing the same SlimKat, my phone works just fine after flashing...
I would be very happy, if somebody could help me out of this situation, so I can go back to an Sense ROM.
Greetings,
Michael
Are you sure you gave the sense rom enough time? It can take a very long time for first boot sometimes.
Also, what firmware version are you on (according to bootloader screen, not what Android says)....
Yes, i think I gave enought time. (10 minutes should be enough?)
My firmware version according to bootloader is 3.16.0.0000
Could take longer definitely. Let it sit a half hour before giving up.
And what OS version does bootloader report...?
---------- Post added at 08:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 AM ----------
Actually, I'm sure your firmware is outdated. Need to update it to use any 4.4.4 roms for Sense.
If you're s-on, try this thread,

Where can I get then the firmware.zip? I searched google up and down, i din't find it for my CID...
Life would be simple if you got Sunshine, and if it works, s-off then supercid. Then updating is simple.
Just a thought. ?
check the general section. collection of stock backups ...it has also the ota zip files, firmwares are inside so see if the right one is there

Want to downgrade to 3.38.x to 3.35.617.12 firmware so that I can install Viper?

Hi Everyone,
I have an Australian HTC One M9 with Telstra (carrier). ATM it has Marshmallow installed, and firmware version 3.38.x, but I would like to downgrade the firmware to 'M9_3.35.617.12_FullStock' (International Version). I would like to do this in order to install the Viper ROM. For me Viper ROM is the 'bees knees' (Aussy Slang for F**king GREAT!). I understand that Viper will not run with the firmware that I currently have installed (both through the XDA forums, and from personal experience; developed by attempting to install the ROM). Is the ADB / fastboot method, outlined in the link below, a safe way to proceed?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
FYI - My phone is S-OFF and Rooted...
Any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo
Just tried a couple of firmware..."Patience, you must have patience!"
Ok, so patience is a virtue, but apparently...not so much one of mine! I just tried to flash a couple of the firmwares that I had in mind - unsuccessfully - and below is a screen cap of my results!

Did you change your cid and mid to match the firmware you're trying to flash?
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA Labs
You should change cid to supercid or something that lets you flash the international (European) version aka 3.35.401.12. You can flash whatever you like with this fw without running into issues )
Skickat från min HTC6535LVW via Tapatalk
SuperCID allowed me 'to turn the corner'
Thanks guys, Roobwz in particular; my phone is now SuperCID. I have also successfully flashed 3.35.x firmware ('M9_3.35.401.12_NoWipe_TWRP2871b1.zip'). I made the decision to use the 'htc_fastboot' software rather than 'standard' fastboot. Even though the flashing completed successfully I did have to issue the same command (through htc_fastboot.exe) twice - in between rebooting the phone - please see the screen shot below.
I am now running Viper ROM...but will all the effort be worthwhile?
Glad you figured it out
Skickat från min HTC6535LVW via Tapatalk
Could anyone help me out? I flashed Android Revolution HD on my verizon HTC one M9.
I accidentally did not set my CID or MID to superCID. CID is at VZW__001
Could that be the cause of me not having service anymore? Boots up fine but just no service.
Been lurking reading everything...just can't figure out how to go back as my backup got corrupted somehow. Verizon files seem like the holy grail I've yet to find... Please if anyone knows anything shoot me in the right direction. I never had to do this CID stuff flashing my old HTC Incredible.
Hi coldbloodio,
Phone service was definitely an issue for me, until I performed the SuperCID and then flashed the appropriate firmware. The correct firmware was not possible until I had SuperCID, and without the correct firmware I could not receive any signal using a custom ROM.
Good luck.

Updating hboot with s-on?

Hello.
I got some questions regarding the updating of firmware.
This thread was probably opened 1000times. But every thread is diferent and with different solutions...
So lets start with my problem.
I want to instal a rom with a 6.12 base. My base is 3.16.
In order to get mine to 6.16 i have to update via RUU or FUU or other..
The methods I found require s-off. Im on s-on. Tried to get it via firewater or sunshine app. Firewater doesnt work for me. The script just gets deleted when I run it, and for sunshine I have to pay 25€ (thats too much cause the phone is old, I just rather get a new phone then thats just my opinion, no hate please)
So now my question is:
How do i get s-off, or update my hboot with a phone with s-on and with a custom rom (leedroid rom)
(I dont need S-off, if there is a way to get my hboot to a new version then its ok )
I probably messed things up, and dont know what im talking about..so that's why im here. So I wont brick my phone
Thanks

You have a lollipop firmware. You can install those custom ROM if you want as they will work on lollipop firmware.
Anyway it's best to have marshmallow firmware. You can install RUU (backup your important files like photos, musics & etc from Internal Storage before you run the procedure)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
After you installed RUU, you need to unlock bootloader again with unlock_code.bin that you received from htc or apply a new one and make sure to install latest TWRP (so you won't have blank firmware on bootloader again)
