can we make a better xda app?! - About xda-developers.com

the current app is buggy, seldom loads, looks outdated, crashes, still talks about xda like a client website of a host app, doesn't support q&a format threads, doesn't support the news, wiki, doesn't format inlaid pictures correctly, etc... how is acceptable when we are building apps the likes of greenify and xposed?

There is a better app in motion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda/alpha-official-xda-one-forum-app-t2899329
And if you are ref to the one in place now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841646
Both of which have a thread, so please use those threads in place, thanks...

[Q] m.xda-developers.com (mobile site) ??

How come one of the largest phone-related sites for android users and more, doesn't have their own Mobile site?
It's no fun viewing xda-developers.com on the phone atm. It gets to big and have to zoom all the time..
And I know about the XDA app. But you only get 'boring' text there..
No images/videos etc.
I know alot of people would appreciate a more simple site to view the news on our phones...
So, how come?
Can it be fixed?
Im not talking about the forum now, only news page- and other pages.
Yes! that'd be great!
We have XDA app and Taptalk for the Forum.
And there are Wordpress readers.
I do want a mobile version layout for the portal though.
If you are a member on XDA, it's likely that you have android or WP7 - they both have apps which make the XDA layout suitable for mobile browsing.

Even the iPhone users have tapatalk.
Herp derp Captivate XDA app.
Forum Runner is also compatible with xda
Maybe you guys should read again?

We're looking into doing a mobile-formatted Portal. The forums with a mobile view isn't as user-friendly as the XDA Apps, so we're not likely to do that soon.
Yeah the mobile forum app. See there's a problem with that. Its search function can't find anything! Doesn't work. Completely broken. Useless.
Try searching for "launcher 7" I got not one relevant result and I know there's plenty of threads with that in title. No option for in post or title only. No choosing which sub forums. Quotes don't work. Its tapatalk based right? It looks and feels like it. I never get searches to work in that app either. That needs fixing. I can't believe no one for all the Google it, and use the search, responses has noticed SEARCH DOESN'T WORK.
Maybe connecting with xda-developer app can be a good idea too.
but without considering about that, it would be a great idea to make a mobile web, too!
mobile-formated portal.

Yes please! I've really come to enjoy the portal over the last few years and the information it provides to the extent that is is one of my bookmarked news sites. However, I've gone to 100% mobile for getting news and as a result, I mostly ignore the portal these days.
I may be wrong, but isn't there a simple plugin for generating a generic mobile view with image thumbnails/headers on top level and image and post text w/ comments on second click? It seems like most of the CMs I've looked at have something like that available... But I don't actually recall what is being used here...
There is also the downside of some plugins in that they do not give you any control over how a user selects which site version. The host server just looks at a user agent etc. and forces mobile content at them, even if they are using a tablet or larger screen. That never goes over very well...
YES ,this is good .
Then, I want to known if this site can be sufring by the mobile phone?
bump! lots of times the tapatalk app fails.. and the full view from mobile is a PITA
can keep track of every thing at any place at any time....
They should update the premium app for ics roms,
Now I know this can't be news....
https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/styles_mobile
Yes, that would be great.
I don't like to install apps in order to visit sites in mobile view.
the portal news can be read and viewed with GOOGLE READER and the xda RSS feed.

Who cares about the portal? I can watch the "news" sometime later when I get on a pc. What we need is the forums

That's why there are mobile forum apps. XDA app and Forum Runner.
I think we have too many customised scripts etc that would make the mobile version difficult to implement.

Dolby Mobile patch

I tried to post this in the Dev section but i'm a newbie. I noticed that when i exit out of a movie (with dolby mobile activated) and go into tune in, the dolby mobile stays on!!! Is there any way to activate it and have it work for all my music, video, and radio apps with out me having to exit a movie and quickly switch apps? If not, could someone find out a way to code it to work into a future ROM?
It's good you couldn't post this in Development, as this does not belong in development

I wasnt going to post it as a thread but as a question to the poster who initially posted it for download.
Ah, I see

XDA WP7 app needs an update

Well kinda think the app needs to be mangofied. Multitasking support, quick app resume, more stability and speed, theme options, plenty. Just thought I'd make this thread to gain traction so post ur support.
Seems like support is dead so would XDA allow some members to work on this app. I'm pretty sure plenty of mems would like to do this and it shows great community support.

I also agree that the xda wp7 app needs updating. The post edit feature doesn't work well on my samsuung focus.
+1 the app is a bit laggy at the moment, could definitely use an update.

The Android Premium version recieved an update not too long ago, so there's still hope. There are some things that should be improved:
- 16 Bit banding, which is said to be app related rather than OS related (though I doubt that).
- editting a post never works flawlessly, since you can't really scroll down to the bottom of the message box. Happens in larger quoted messages as well.
- scrolling should definitely be improved a lot. I've rarely seen apps with such horrible laggy scrolling.

it needs a free version too. Howardforums offers their app for free but not this site.
Yeah I paid for the app to support xda but the app is subpar. Probably the only app that lags for me and I have over 100 apps installed

Why not do something like touch.boards.ie it works so much better and faster than xda.

yes, this xda app is the worst performing app on my phone.
The inability to scroll to the bottom while creating a long post is quite aggravating.
It's embarrassing that a developer forum has such a crappy app.

+1 def needs an update esp as mango is now out and about in the playing field
XDA didn't develop the App, it's basically a stripped down version of Board Express, IIRC, just like the Android app is a Stripped Down Version of TapaTalk. You can pay to have them produce a customized version just for your forum.
And yes, that app is terrible. A ton of paid apps are basically unsupported these days, I guess since the Developers made a good chunk of cash and don't feel hte need to devote anymore of their free time to it.
Birdsong is another example. Literally unsupported right now.
Should start a Sticky Thread for apps that have fallen out of support to tell people to avoid them, IMO. Can't support your app, you don't deserve good word of mouth, IMO.
Yeah, WP7 badly needs a proper Tapatalk-style app. Board Express is awful and the developer has gone AWOL.
If I remember correctly, I did see something on the Board Express website about reskinning/rebranding costing $999 or so. I could be remembering it wrong, and the info is no longer on the website...but damn. If a few gullible fools did that, no wonder the guy has disappeared. Talk about making a fast buck.
I totally support the idea of a thread for abandoned apps...given that the quality of reviewers on the Marketplace is fairly low it's often hard to tell whether an app is any good, especially if the trial is heavily stripped down or doesn't even exist.
YEA ABANDONED THREAD WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA. aLSO $999 THOSE BASTARDS.

[Suggestion] - Premium version with no ads

Is there any thought going on to have a premium membership without ads for xda.
I know majority wont agree but would love to browse the forum without ads and help the community with a premium version

thanks. But i am aware of the app. But how about when using my computer ?
Currently i prefer using the app all the time becoz i can have 50 posts per page , viewing pics is better and so on.
I wish some of these features were included in the web version, atleast as a premimum feature.
You can set 50 posts-per-page in the browser, it's in the User CP somewhere. I love it, all those 100+ page threads magically turns into 20-pagers.
Ads.. They are on everything.

[Request] Texas-Instrument Calculator app

Oh boy, I need that app, I can't exactly remember the name of it, just remember having that app from a ROM I flashed.
Does anyone have a link or remember which ROM it was so I can get this app.

Oh yea, here is a Market link to the gimped version of all the variants. You will need to locate the "rom" from the respective calculator to then use with this application. Think playing NES games on your PC.
Andie Graph Market page.
Edit: Removed questionable link. Refer to the app's Market page for that link.

Actually after further reviewing the linked website from the market page in my previous reply, it didn't provide the actual roms.
What it did was give you directions and provide the tools for extracting the rom from your TI calculator to use for this improved calculator emulator app. This is how the author was able to stay within TI's good graces and the app remain on the market.
However, it only took a single Google search to track down all the related roms.
