This site rocks, the app does too. I actually use the app more for reading and the website for posting (keyboards rock too btw)
The APP has a big advantage over the website, Participated Threads. Makes it a lot easier to track threads without subscribing to them.
Rocking place, has really come a long way in a short time.
best app ever
Pretty damn good app. I think; I'm using it right now and I use it on my phone a lot more than the computer; if I see something interesting like an application, ill go on the site.

- Ability to collapse status bar to get more screen real estate
- Ability to "add a shortcut" to specific forum right on your Android homescreen
- More goodies!

Definitely looking forward to this.
I just wish the Android Market allowed you to "subscribe" to a developer and get an email when something new is uploaded. Niche feature, but I think it would be fairly useful.
New app coming... booyeah. If it keeps the 'participated threads tab' then I'll buy it no question.

It will be a totally new app that will cost money, but not much.
Speaking of this great app (vs. The web site) is there a reason that when following links to other XDA thread posts from the XDA app sometimes the new thread opens in the app and sometimes it opens in a browser?
Just curious...

Android Experience.
I love the app, am a big user. Hate the force closes that come with it. E.G. if you receive a phone call or press home while in the app and do something else for awhile, when you go back in it usually results in a force close.
One other thing I've noticed, on HTC phones, Sense roms (2.2+) actually correctly upload pictures in the XDA app. AOSP roms almost never upload it correctly, even though the file format is correct. Kinda sucks.
I definitely love the Participated Threads functionality, however.

Would be nice to see better search. The one now sux.
I like the xda app as well. I would like better search (i.e. search from within a forum), and a bit more info about a post to see if it is closed for example.
Great community, running my first non stock ROM (Paragon) and very impressed.

Just downloaded, and now whenever I open a thread it opens on the first page!
Edit: now last page.
I know there's a paid version which includes options for which page to open on as default. But to me it's not cool to take this functionality away from the free users or at least don't downgrade our experience with this I assume vastly unpopular default.
Edit: last page is definitely an improvement over first but why take away this feature from free users? To me this just says you can't come up with enough new features to sell your product to paying customers.
Needless to say I'm installing and restoring a backup of the old version.
Edit: yep, I'm still rolled back.
Also the market won't open your page for me to lower my 5 stars, but when it does *shakes fist*
Edit: the page opened, & I lowered my rating.

Agreed. The last update remove some features and functionality and now there is no free version in the market. Guess I will restore an older version.

I understand that the paid app had more features, but I don't like out that the free version is a downgraded version of the previous (also free) version.
I don't mind paying for android apps, I often do and I even donate voluntarily to xda members, but the problem here is that I don't like the principle of removing features to get people to buy the paid version...

exactly. thats just bad. its enough to make me NOT pay for the full version just based on principle there.
How come one of the largest phone-related sites for android users and more, doesn't have their own Mobile site?
It's no fun viewing xda-developers.com on the phone atm. It gets to big and have to zoom all the time..
And I know about the XDA app. But you only get 'boring' text there..
No images/videos etc.
I know alot of people would appreciate a more simple site to view the news on our phones...
So, how come?
Can it be fixed?
Im not talking about the forum now, only news page- and other pages.
Yes! that'd be great!
We have XDA app and Taptalk for the Forum.
And there are Wordpress readers.
I do want a mobile version layout for the portal though.
If you are a member on XDA, it's likely that you have android or WP7 - they both have apps which make the XDA layout suitable for mobile browsing.

We're looking into doing a mobile-formatted Portal. The forums with a mobile view isn't as user-friendly as the XDA Apps, so we're not likely to do that soon.
Yeah the mobile forum app. See there's a problem with that. Its search function can't find anything! Doesn't work. Completely broken. Useless.
Try searching for "launcher 7" I got not one relevant result and I know there's plenty of threads with that in title. No option for in post or title only. No choosing which sub forums. Quotes don't work. Its tapatalk based right? It looks and feels like it. I never get searches to work in that app either. That needs fixing. I can't believe no one for all the Google it, and use the search, responses has noticed SEARCH DOESN'T WORK.
Maybe connecting with xda-developer app can be a good idea too.
but without considering about that, it would be a great idea to make a mobile web, too!
mobile-formated portal.

Yes please! I've really come to enjoy the portal over the last few years and the information it provides to the extent that is is one of my bookmarked news sites. However, I've gone to 100% mobile for getting news and as a result, I mostly ignore the portal these days.
I may be wrong, but isn't there a simple plugin for generating a generic mobile view with image thumbnails/headers on top level and image and post text w/ comments on second click? It seems like most of the CMs I've looked at have something like that available... But I don't actually recall what is being used here...
There is also the downside of some plugins in that they do not give you any control over how a user selects which site version. The host server just looks at a user agent etc. and forces mobile content at them, even if they are using a tablet or larger screen. That never goes over very well...
YES ,this is good .
Then, I want to known if this site can be sufring by the mobile phone?
bump! lots of times the tapatalk app fails.. and the full view from mobile is a PITA
can keep track of every thing at any place at any time....
They should update the premium app for ics roms,
Now I know this can't be news....
https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/styles_mobile
Yes, that would be great.

That's why there are mobile forum apps. XDA app and Forum Runner.
I think we have too many customised scripts etc that would make the mobile version difficult to implement.
Content from security.rltk.us, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page. Visiting this page now is very likely to infect your computer with malware.
Is what I'm getting. anyone else?

I confirmed its from a new ad that Xda is running on some of their pages, If you enable adblock on xda (i hate doing that becasue i support this site) the warning goes away.

The malware is just probably some add sites on which they embed php codes inside the image files for tracking page views. Pretty harmless to me

If you are a chrome user.. you need to add an adblock extension from chrome store..
Firefox means addon of adblocker ... well till this issue gets resolved.. later you can remove it..

This shouldn't really bother anyone. AdFree was for root users and if you know how to root there is a very good chance you will always know where to find the apk.. Now when they prevent me from loading it on my phone it'll be a problem.

This news REALLY pisses me off.
gReader is the only way I can keep up with Android Police, Android Authority, and a few other news sites. gReader being killed off is only slighly more annoying to me than Google killing off iGoogle.

Most Android adblockers modify the hosts file to do the adblocking.
Sounds like the world is ending in here...
It's really not that big of a deal >.>
Android is open. The store is not. You can do whatever with Android, you just wont be getting it from their store. I don't know why everyone is so upset.
Considering that hosts blocking only works if you have root, I really don't see how this is a problem. If you can root your phone, you can install third-party apks without an issue.
Still, a *****ly move, but Google does make all of their profits selling ads. It is probably AdBlock that killed the fun, since it semi-worked (WiFi only) for non-root users.

Call me a Devil's Advocate here, but what's the big freaking deal with ads in apps????? I mean, I do hate the ones that get pushed as fake notifications with some of the crapware you can get on the market, but I don't consider the regular ones obtrusive... And let's remember, ad revenue is the bread and butter for Google, and a lot of the developers who offer their apps for free...
here's the link for ad-away. i prefer this one since you can customize your lists easily.
