Looked into this, seems like it is just for tethering? I'm looking for regular data speed increase with no tethering. Thanks

Here are the defaults. Remember, when you make changes always have a backup plan. In this case a screen shot would do.
You most likely have a signal strength issue. No tweaks can fix that.

i think its just your area. i download "stuff", use netflix and run XBL with no issues other than the occasional jump from lte to 3g. but i average between 50-100gb a month.

I had the same issue with sprint. Was at or less than 1MBps up and down for a full week. I live in Las Vegas and they claim to "have the best signal in Las Vegas." I switched to T-Mobile and never had anything below 22MBps down and up, one time I got 56MBps down and 45MBps up. Sprint throttles data, and does a good job at it (while T-Mobile and Experian will give out your personal info ).

4g is starting to roll out here(slc,ut), highest speeds I'm getting right now are 2.73mb Down and 0.99 mb UP, seems like those caps sprint was talking about are in effect, anyway to break them like you wizards did with the 30fps cap issue or is it because 4g is not officially released here yet?

What caps are you talking about? Look at one of the 4g speed threads, many have had much better results that your test above.

Sprint has openly stated they are capping 4g at 1mbps upload for now. The official cap is 10/1 though they may raise it at a later date.
My home cable internet is capped at 10/1
And my evo on wifi uses every drop of it, which is cool to see
You won't need more than 512 kbit/s anyways unless you are trying to torrent. The latency is too crap to play/host any online games anyways.

1 mbps Upload, Not bad at all
I work for a medium size ISP our fastest internet tier is 10.1mbps down with 1.0mbps up. So for 1mbps up on a mobile phone that is really good. I understand Comcast has 50x10 packages which is insane and awesome, but 1mbps on upload is really good, should be plenty fast
Wow im in Houston and NEVER got more than 3Mbps down and ofcourse only 1 up.

I am in Houston and I get an average of 8Mbps with spiked of 9.8Mbps down on my Evo over WiMax. Depending on my area, but they are still rolling it out it will get better

I have the 50/10 but Comcast is rolling out 105/15 within the next month or so here.
1Mbps upload is nothing... I've had 2 for ages.
Getting 0% on a multiple choice test is as hard as getting 100%. Consecutive perfect 1.00Mbps uploads are just that, a solid proof of throttling =P
That is TERRIBLE speed...
I picked up a brand new G2 off craigslist and I've rooted it already. Phone is awesome. I can finally stream my Amazon Video On Demand collection without a hitch. I'm not noticing too much of a difference when I run speedtest.net though.
Do I have to change my data plan with T-Mobile? I live and work in LA so maybe the network is just jammed.
no speeds in LA just suck that bad. ive driven around all LA and never been able to get those hspa+ speeds, im thinking LA isnt enabled yet. but call tmobile and complain because when i called and said i wasnt the only when experiencing that they said it could be the phone.. my friend has a g2 also, and i dont think shes getting the speeds either. so make sure you call!! hopefullly either theyll tell us the truth or send some patch or something idk
I also live in LA, (commute between Long Beach and El Segundo) and I don't get the advertised data speeds... just the regular ole 3G speeds here.
In my area, I've actually seen not a boost in speed but a boost in reception quality moving from my N1 (which I still love ever so much, and might just sell my G2 for ). I stay on 3G/HSPDA in more areas than I used to. And I drop down to 2g less often during tower switches.
it all depends on location, for example, I live in a suburb of Chicago where the new network is supposed to be already up at, (about 5 miles away) and I get horrible speeds in my home (0.90 MBits) then about 20 miles in the other direction from Chicago (Aurora) speedtest said i was estimated at less than 5 miles from the aurora server in IL. I got speeds of nearly 9 MBits. I would complain but after some testing I guess it's just my location and could be the same problem for you, or I could just be high and we all have shoddy phones.
+1 for location. I'm in NYC so even with HSDPA enabled, I get 3G like speeds, a little faster, but when I go out to the suburbs, I get about 5Mbps which is quick, wifi like speeds.

Very true. At home I get 6Mbps pretty consistently, and the speeds are just downright incredible! At work I get a measly 300-400Kbps because the tower that I'm near at work is still stuck on 3G, not to mention I have horrible coverage in general at work (signal drops all the time).
I have reception in walmart now lol

How do you manage this? I have a G2 as well - coming from a rooted G1. I'm guessing you have to set the browser mode to "desktop browswer" and just sign in to Amazon VOD?

You should be able to get over 1mbps if Verizon has 3G in your area
Thanks. Where don't they have 3g network? lol.
Anybody ever do any side by side speed tests with other devices? I ran a test with three E4GTs, an EVO 4G and an EVO 3D. Both EVO's cleared over a meg d/l while all three E4GTs (including mine) barely broke 200 kb/s. Sprint needs to get their network up to snuff no doubt but I think there is also something going on with the hardware/firmware of our phones too. I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint and Samsung today about it (of course they weren't able to help and played dumb).
For a while I was pulling my hair out, and updating prls, having Sprint reset my account and reprovisioning my phones.
E4GT, Optima S, Evo 4G and hacked Droid Incredible all scored the same pathetic sub 100Kbs in my area. I ran again at 5am and all of them managed above 1Mbps. Just over loaded towers in my area. Its worse since the Iphone.
I guess Anaheim Hills, CA is unaffected. My speeds have been great.
The Evo3d received a network service update a couple days ago and a lot of people who received it said they are getting better 3g speeds all of a sudden. Just check the second link I posted up on this thread. So comparing an Evo3d to anything might not be fair at the moment. All depending on your area that is. I received a network service update on my girl's Evo3d and it still gets the same 3g speeds as my ET4g. Just average speeds in my area. Here's the link explaining network changes in the Bay area.

Maybe they gave in and just gave it the ENG radio. When I had my E3D and I flashed the leaked eng radio (I forget the version number) my speeds were anywhere from 30-60% faster. It might have affected battery life, but, who knows...battery life sucked on that thing regardless.
I always found it strange that every radio update just seemed to make it go slower and slower...I think Sprint was up to something...
I got the GS2X, and ive noticed something weird. Ive noticed in screenshots from various telus users that their screenshots say HSPA+ in the speedtest app, but mine only ever says HSPA? Is this due to using T-Mo roms or is there somethign else going on?
it could simply be reception as well, in my house i get both signals, because it has 2 towers nearby
1 tower gives me HSPA and the other tower gives me HSPA+
Ahh, i live right at the edge of the city. I will have to check next time im in.

You can try this to see what towers are nearest to you: http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html
Pretty neat map
there's 2 that i use
OpenSignalMaps, it has a very nice widget
and then also Signal Finder
you can get both from Market
one offers more in depth info, the other is more accurate
it'll be nice if some DEV comes along and combine both into 1 App
Ok so im only getting HSPA, no mention of +
Ive got a friend with an iPhone 4S that only sees 3g as well on his..
Could this be due to the T-Mo based ROMs(ive been told this is only an icon difference though)
Or, possibly a SIM issue.
Stock rom shows HSPA as well but also with a 4g icon
Speed tests come in 13mbit/3up...
Not sure whats going on..
I'm on Telus in Montreal, never really seen hspa or hspa+, only the 4g symbol. I typically get around 6.5/2 download/upload speeds, not great, but its quite quick on the net

I don't really care what the app itself tells me, so long as the speeds I'm getting are fast My phone is faster than my home internet's 10Mbit connection, so I can take some pride in that
I'm chalking this up as a LOS issue because I've had an HTC hero, incredible and incredible 2 on this same account getting upwards of 1 MBits per second and this GS II is getting more like 20-60 kbits per second which is basically not even usable. I can't stream YouTube, can't hardly surf the web, can barely navigate google maps and it takes 2-3 minutes to get a GPS lock. Help? :-(

Don't feel bad I live in Indiana and cricket has always been slow from what I've seen.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I think you failed to see the point. We are talking about three different previous androids getting upwards of 1 mbits/sec vs. this GS II getting 70 kbits/sec. Clearly something is wrong. It doesn't matter if I have full bars of signal my ping in milliseconds is around 800 and my downloads/uploads are shockingly slow. Looking for a recommendation on a different modem or different PST settings though I've flashed my fair share of androids to cricket with great success so I can safely assume this is a modem issue. Problem with that is that I keep hearing that EL29 was the best gingerbread modem for this phone, really just hoping that someone can help me out.
Chris
I have seen side by side tests that would indicate that the Samsungs have a weaker antanae than the HTCs
Just flashed FF18 with Calk's E4GT EL29 ROM and speedtest.net app can't even find a server. Web browsing seems slower. Ugh
Chris
Have now flashed FC18, FD19, and FF18 (latest) all of which made my ping basically double but didn't seem to change my downstream or upstream. It did however disconnect from Cricket 3G / 1X whatever I was connected to at the time more frequently than EL29 does.
Good grief. I still have my HTC Incredible on another line with cricket same plan same signal getting 400ms or less ping (E4GT gets me 800+) and 400kbps-1mbps vs the E4GT's 20-70kpbs. This is insane...???!!!

Yes, get used to it. The S1/S2 **** poor antennas are well documented. The only thing u can do is flash diff modems until u find 1 that works well for ur area...other than that, make sure ur using a rom with 3g tweaks built in, or apply the tweaks urself. ....im not sure, but u could also try flashin a verizon prl and force roaming with Roam Control....
go to www.cricketuser.com they are a didicated website for flashing phones to cricket. When i use to play around with cricket you have to find out if your APN files is proxy server or non proxy
Thank you so much for your replies, I did get the slow 3G issue fixed. My HA SPI and AAA SPI were 4D2, and 4D2 when it needed to be 12C and 2 respectively. Also changed the registry retry timeouts to match my previous HTC Hero, Incredible, and Incredible 2 at 1750 ms instead of 2000ms but I doubt that setting had anything to do with it. Now seeing a normal 500 kbps or higher downstream
Chris
And yes I am using proxy settings via the app Anycut (activity: proxy settings) due to me being grandfathered into the $40 unlimited everything plan. I know I could pay $15 extra per month for the Android Plan and get slightly faster 3G without the need for the proxy settings but it just doesn't seem worth it to me.
