Hey , I'm about to buy a new smartphone and I'm wondering which smartphone will be the best for 300 bucks.
So what I want is a solid build smartphone ,weight doesn't bother me .A powerful CPU and sufficient RAM for Browsing internet,Watching Youtube, Social Media(Multitasking) and playing occasionnaly some games (asphalt,..) .A good Camera I don't care about low light or recording 4K videos I just want some Good Pictures ,more details and sharpness and accurate autofocus since I will use it for social media. And a durable Battery at least one day without charging !!! ; and a loud speakers not the loudest as the Axon 7 but at least audible.
After many searches I found that the Mi 5s is the best, but I heard that some users have encountered some problems with the fingerprint scanner , 4G connectivity , and battery draining too fast, and Problems with multitasking as the phone had to reload apps everytime , I dunno if it's a problem of some units or general.
But I also found these Smartphones : Leeco Le Pro 3, Leeco Le Max 2, Zuk Z2 , Honor 8 , ASUS Zenfone 3, Meizu Pro6, Huawei Honor V8 , Xiaomi Mi 5 , Zte Nubia 11 ,..., if u know something else in this price range please tell me.
So My Priorities are Performance , Camera , Solid Build , Battery , Audio .
Please Guys , tell me which smartphone can handle my needs ? is Mi 5s better than those listed above ?
PS: My Provider 4G bands are 800/1800/1600 Mhz
Thanks in advance.
I was in the similar position as you. I looked into it and came back with the conclusion that of all the Chinese phones, it's the software which a lot of reviews said was jut not as polished as miui. Coming from a nexus stock Android user experience I was a bit worried, but I was dead wrong. I love miui, it feels very nice. Has a similar notification drawer to LG. There were complaints against the mi5 build quality, so I ended ip with the mi5s (4/32 varient due to low price).
The fingerprint reader isn't as fast and magic as my nexus 5x but it's only a small nigle (I use trusted location). Not had any issues with it and an recommending it to my friends
With future updates miui will be polished more and more no worry...
Sent from my MI 5s using Tapatalk
First I was going to get the oneplus t3 but it's slighty to large. I love the oneplus bcs it's as close to stock android you can come without having to flash your own custom ROMs. But since I want a phone that is 5.0-5.5" I found the Mi 5s as a possible alternative.
questions:
1. Can I easily root this phone and flash a nougat ROM so I can use google play store?
To compare I'm currently on Sprint with a rooted HTC 10 running the VENOM ROM.
2. I'm switching to T-mobile where I was planning on using this the Mi5s. I travel abroad quite a bit, does the mi5s have all the bands for international travel?
3. Anything I would miss from my current HTC 10 or oneplus 3t if I make the switch?
Thanks!!
Xiaomi Mi6 will be released this month, you can wait Mi6.
Hey guys
So I'm here asking about the question in the title
I want to know whether the kernel sources are released by OEM or not ?
And I'm getting this phone for only 15K INR
Is there any android developement like custom roms possible on this phone ?? OR should I buy redmi note 4 which has a better support ??
I don't want to switch devices for few more years
Please help me here
That are two phones hard to compare.. snapdragon 820 vs 625, 5inch vs 5.5inch etc, fingerprint on front vs on the back etc... how should we know what you need or want?
Both are great..
And for custom roms > how about if you look into the roms, kernels, recovery.. section? Dont be so lazy man

Warning: Very long story
My purchase of 3Gb variant of Redmi Note 4 was final but could not buy it (everything happens for a good) as delivery was not available by flipkart in my area. I was very sad and finally decided to buy a new, seal packed Redmi Note 3 from ebay at Rs. 9300 (Rs. 10400 was listed price, after applying coupons it became Rs. 9300) as it had performance and recently got franco kernel too (previously available only on Pixels, Nexus and One Plus devices). Finally saw Lenovo Z2 Plus on Snapdeal for Rs. 12000 and immediately purchased it (was hesitant at first reading reviews on Amazon but could not resist SD 820 at this price).
The phone is great, no heating issues and was much better than Redmi Note 3 (Screen quality, camera quality, general performance, looks) when compared side by side as my friend had one. Battery is also good, I get 5-6 hours Screen on time on 4G network with hotspot on and around 7-8 hours SoT on WiFi.
About development, both devices have great roms but Redmi Note 4 has no custom kernel as kernel source codes are not released currently but may or will get them in future when sources are released. Also if you want to be like a trickster and change TV channels of any TV in lobby of any hospital/Hotel, go for Xiaomi phones as they have IR blaster.
The Z2 Plus recently got official Nougat whereas Redmi Note 3 and 4 are still on Marshmallow but that does not matter as you are planning to use a custom rom and all three have 7.1.2 Nougat custom roms.
Conclusion
If you like very good developer support with some good performance, go for Redmi Note 3
If you like development with superior battery life, go for Redmi Note 4
If you want a phone with sheer raw power and the one that does not slow down even after 3 years and a great value for money and brag among friends, go for Z2 Plus.
Currently Z2 Plus is available at Rs.13000 at Snapdeal but wait for amazon sale on 11th, previously at an Amazon sale, it was available for 12K and if you get any bank discount (sometimes 10 to 15% off on SBI Card etc during sale), you can get it for 10-11K too.
Go for the black one, it looks very good
Hope this helps
You can also watch reviews and comparison of phones on youtube for better decisions.

I am absolutely agree with hp5942's statements. Development for Z2 is only growing, it will be awesome in a few months. Note 3 has one of the best dev support and will have it for a long time. Note 4 is better looking and feeling than Note 3, but it is less speedy device.
I'm fine with front mounted finger print sensor
I want to use device for at least 2-3 years
Which one do you suggest me ?

For long run always go with the phone with more performance.
My friend still has no performance issues with his Mi4 (SD 800, flagship at that time) even after 2.5 years.

yeah..this phone worth what u paying for.
Why do you guys confuse much. Its good phone for the price. For 13k you are getting snap 820
Its like for the price of audi you getting buggati
Why to get confused. There are minor software hiccups. As you are familiar with xda you can always use custom roms
Hardware wise there are no issues. Build quality is damm solid. I have thrashed my phone many times, but it still survives.
Back glass is lil fragile.
Should i buy lenovo z2 plus now at 12k?

This phone was a worthy buy @18K, it's definitely a steal @12k, but if you can wait, BigBillionDay/GreatIndian sale is around the corner, you might get an even sweeter deal.

I bought z2 plus(4,64gb) @ 9.5k from amazon
(Actually 11k - 1.5k cashback)
So wait for any amazon sale
May be buy it on Diwali
For those not used to pimp their phones (unlock bootloader, flash rom etc...), i think Zuk Z2 is not a good choice as the original version is not perfect. But if you like to flash and customize your phone, so yes, 10 times yes,it's a very good phone (have it for almost 1 year and still happy with it).
Hi All!,
I am a current OnePlus 3t user, and it's a great phone. I was looking to get a new phone for 2 main reasons:
The space on the OnePlus I have is limitted to 64 Gb, I am running out.
With the new Snapdragon 835 out, I thought I'd look for a phone with that if I were to upgrade.
So I thought I'd check out the OnePlus 5, however the price of it put me off. Having done some research, I really like the look of the Xiaomi Mi 6. However there are a few things that are still making me reconsider:
The reviews I have seen have commented the software is buggy. It crashes and stops working at times. The software on the OnePlus 3T just works. I've not had any problems. If I get the Mi6, will it be a case of buying a buggy phone?
Also with the software, I've never used MiUi, and personally I like the simplicity and near stock Android on the OnePlus. How big of a change is the MiUi and is it customisable?
Does the Mi6 have the ability to capture RAW images?
Thanks in advance! :good:
I migrated quickly to Xiaomi.EU ROM when I purchased Mi6, although I didn't have any problem with (fake) supplied ROM.
I've used my mom's 3T for quite a bit, and the stock Android feel of OxygenOS and frequent and fast update from OnePlus is the big... plus.
MIUI, on the other hand, has very bad notification handling. It feels like you're using Android 4.2/4.4 something. You can't swipe left/right on the lockscreen notifications to make them go away, nor you can't expand it nicely like in pure android (You can do it on notification shade however, using 2 fingers, but the experience just sucks). I tried floatify to emulate the notification in stock android, but it's not enough.
MIUI for Mi6 hasn't provided RAW capture capability AFAIK.
OnePlus 5 has released their kernel source, so dev can easily start working custom ROM on that. But Xiaomi has been notorious keeping the kernel source for a long time (about 6 months+ on previous flagship), that makes the non-MIUI based ROM harder to develop.
I'm currently trying to get LineageOS installed on my Mi6, I'll post more on that LineageOS thread maybe tomorrow evening or the day after.
There is always some plus and minus. I’ve been using Xiaomi 5 Pro and I’m very happy {:m034:}
I used to have One+1 and One+3. Both were great phones.
With perfect Quality/Price factor. Even with EU prices:-/
Now I had been waiting for One+5 and all-around I’m very disappointed wit it.
Reason?
USB 2, No OIS, Software AND Price for EU!!!
It’s not the Flagship killer anymore, it starts to be exclusive peace of equipment.
My main decision point (quality/price factor) dropped down rapidly.
I really prefer MIUI in comparison to Cyanogen (1+1) or OxygenOS (1+3).
With weekly Globe-Roms upgrade (http://mi-globe.com) I’m really satisfied. Mi 5 works very smooth.
OK., it’s with open boot loader and rooted, but all my phoned have been same way in the past
(and will be in future )
I do not remember what I used in the first case, but in 1+3, I changed it to Resurrection Remix ROM.
I agree that all Oneplus society forum support is great. Same with software developers.
I hope that here in MIUI world it will be the same soon.
Especially that after all comparisons of my own, I decided to order Mi 6, 6/128 one.
))
Without any doubt the mi6, and specially if you can buy it at 369USD in some aliexpress offers.
I just Got the Mi 6 pro. Fresh in my hand. It looks great, and feels excellent. It's running very smooth at the moment but hey, is brand new.
I have my 3t on hand.
I think most of the comments are correct. One plus updates quick esp of your on the beta stream, it's smooth and you don't have to deal with MIUI overlay - the OnePlus launcher is excellent.
The Mi 6 is very emotional - what the 3T has and the 5 does not.
Practically, get the 5....you know what to expect. The Mi6 feels great though.....!
I have to edit this: having had the phone for a week - the Mi6 is the smoothest, fastest phone in town right now, period, including the S8 Plus. It's very slick indeed, very, very quick, had an excellent camera and great Sound.
It's very difficult to put the Mi6 down and pick up any of the other phones.

It's gone. That was the 28 June sale on a couple of sellers. I bought mine then, still waiting for it to be posted...
On the same boat. I have been reading about the touchscreen delay problems, bluetooth connectivity and some other bugs and i am hesitant to do the leap of faith on mi6.
One plus 5 on the other hand has such community and gets so many updates that you are sure that software problems will be fixed as soon as possible.

If you find bugs on MI 6,you can tell the developers of Xiaomi to fix them.
I got both the op5 and Mi6, the op5 has an real deal-breaker with the "jelly screen" design flaw. As for now there is no fix and oneplus says its "natural". So the Mi6 is an better choice for me.

i recon that bluetooth bugs have existed with the launch and they are yet to get a 'fix'.
Updates for global seem non existant but on the other hand thats what you get for the mi series. Xiaomi is pretty great for international devices, mainly speaking about the redmi series. Rest seem to be left untouched(Mi mix, note 2, mi5 s etc).
I am gonna hold myself from buying this yet.
Hello guys
Sorry for the long question.
I am very confused these days, i sold Redmi Note 7 some days ago but now i don't understand that what device is perfect for me in my low budget. I have some devices in my mind:
1. Pocophone F1
2. Realme 3 Pro
3. OnePlus 5T
What i need:
I really like to install different roms on my deivce, occasionally gaming and most of the time watching movies etc.
Why i am not able to decide ?
1. Pocophone F1
Big notch taking over 70% of status bar. Heard / saw different threads claiming that the devices has touch screen / hardware issues.
2. Realme 3 Pro
Realme 5 Pro also available around the world but not in Pakistan. In Pakistan only option so far is Realme 3 Pro. Overall phone seems to be a good deal. But there is no Android development.
3. OnePlus 5T
This device is my most favorite device. Do you guys recommend me to buy 5T in 2019? and i also want to now, that is there any common hardware related issues to check for before buying?
Looking for response from you guys.
Plenty of ROM support and easy methodology to tamper, if you aren't a fan of OOS which is quite good anyway. Updates are still being released quite frequently through the beta.
Bought mine on release, coming up on 2 years ago now. Only complaints I have hardware wise:
-charging port can be finicky, but I need to clean it.
-camera is very average (but GCam mod with root + camera library dot fix performs very well)
I don't see myself getting a different phone for at LEAST another year and a bit. Take of that what you will.
I bought oneplus 5t 2 weeks a ago and i would say buy the damn phone you won't regret it, previously i was using samsung a50 but was not satisfied with the performance, oneplus 5t is blazing fast, go for it
Good phone but two things that suck
Vibration motor is horrible. It's so weak that I can't even hear it most of the time
Camera quality out of the box is just average
This two things didn't seem to be important to me in the past but you do notice the difference after using the phone for 2 years
In my opinion 5T is still beast but official beta support had dropped
Not that much custom ROMs available (many maintainers and developers switched to op6 or higher models)
Better try to buy op6or6T
Although open beta has been stripped for the 5t I'm still more than happy with my 5t. I even prefer OOS over the custom ROMs because it's really fast, stable and the gesture control kicks ass and is way better than that Google thing. Plus have in mind that OP already confirmed Android q. It may take a while but for now OP is still going strong with security patches. As long the battery is fine so am I.
Dear all,
I have removed some off topic posts from this thread. Please post with manners and contribute to the discussion. Thanks.

The Pocophone has larger battery and an IR scanner which is amazing for face recognition. But the screen is not good as 5T's.
Oxygen OS is probably the best out there. It is light and so fast and allows so many customizations. I bet you won't be bothered with custom ROMs!
Snapdragons 835 and 845 don't differ much either.
I'd go for the 5T if I found both at similar price.
hello .. i am really interested with this phone as its currently on sale for 375USD ~ 1399 SAR (including VAT 15% and fees) wherr i am right now ( Moto G 5G Plus 128GB 8GB ram ) and i have some questions regarding this phone :
as i have been using android since 2010 ( Samsung S2 - Samsung Note - Samsung Note 2 - Innjoo - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 - LG V20 - Poco F1 - Mi Max 3 - Mi Max 2 ) i would like to know about these particular points :
1. how does Motorola deliver software updates compared to Xiaomi, Samsung and LG for example ,,, Xiaomi for getting the most out of it with 3 to 4 security and bugs updates and a big android version change annually While LG might get the one or two update to security patches only with no android version update ????
This is still not answered, we received the September 2020 patch on android 10 for now RETMEA channel .... phone code name is nairo
2. Screen on time Expectations; and let me know if this is single or dual 5g / 4g standby mode .. this is important because it heavily affects the standby time ...
Can this phone use both sims and sd card with an adapter ? i would love to know if any of you have tried that
Answer : dual 4g standby and 4g+/5g on the active data sim when it supports it , hybrid adapter works and getting about a day and a half of life with this phone now ... Still on my second cycle and so far i am getting about 8 hrs sot
Update : battery usage is getting better ... 1.5 days of backup with 9 hrs SOT
3. is this phone easily rooted like requesting the unlock and then using a recovery from fastboot with magisk flash ? or its hard like doing LG v20 wizardry and dirty cow exploits with terminals and flashing ? ( i did both ways before on my older phones but i am just getting the sense of this phone
Answer : its not easily rooted due to lack of developers support and rooting will void all warranty which is absurd, plus you get an intrusive badge on your phone once you unlocked boot loader ... Xiaomi is far better in that case because you can re-lock it and the unlocked sign is not like a nuclear disaster sign .. this remind me of samsung and LG which is not appropriate
Rooted by patching the boot.img file with magisk app inside the phone then flashing it from fast boot, its a manual thing and the TWRP recovery is not working well on this Variant so far so you cannot rely on it (cannot access internal storage or sd card while it request codes or passwords)
4. how does this phone compare to the poco x3 nfc ? in terms of daily usage and smoothness ? is the internal memory fast like UFS ?
Answer : it is faster than poco x3 ... 276k poco vs 309k Antutu v8.4.3 ... Ufs 2.1 as gsm arena mentioned
5. does this phone support USB on the go function ? Are the ringer and notification volumes separable in the software ?
Answer : usb otg and charging other devices is supported, ringer and notification volumes cannot be separated (big bummer)? in settings but i am trying Volume Butler for now and so far i can say it sometimes work and sometimes not due to the fact i am using "island" which has applied a personal and a work profile inside the phone
6. does the phone speaker sound pack some bass like the lg v20 for example ? or its tinny like the poco F1 ?
Answer : closer to poco f1 less bass mono speaker, but its loud enough for media consumption for me atleast
7. will motorola support this phone even further with newer features like stereo speakers like what happened for the mi max 2 as an example ? or we will probably rely on other developers for a magisk module ?
Answer not clear yet
8. best cases for this phone ( links on amazon or aliexpress are appreciated if mods approve )
i bought lots of them from aliexpress and i am trying them now ... so far i like this one
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001600406047.html
for stickers i went installing the Hydrogel one yesterday and with the cover the whole phone experience went from ( a very slim phone that i am afraid to crush and break ) to ( this is a good phone that can deal with my daily usage )
9. the device has no notification LED and instead you get a pesky feature called ( display peek ) that keeps the phone turning the screen on for each move and vibration , plus the notifications cannot be seen if you have the hide notification mode on .... simply a bummer for a person who just wants to double tap to wake and unlock only as this called feature consume lots of battery for nothing ! ... motorola if you can see this please fix it
these are some of the detailed issues that i would like keep exploring solutions for as i am very eager to see your answer
Update : added some answers from my experience as i got the phone on 26-10-2020
No notification led light and the phone keeps lighting up the screen if you use moto gestures which is a pain .. already disabled
Google assistant button is useless
No double tap to wake
Nord VPN app notworking properly cannot login or use the vpn (Updated app now works fine)... Other vpn provider ultrasurf worked fine
No full screen recorder
21:9 screen is very long and only well suited for portrait use
Phone got security patch update September 2020

I have had it for 2 weeks now, feels quite sluggish especially when switching apps but this is the 4gb ram version. Is the 8gb ram one any better?
This is an android one device which Google says should receive os updates for 2 years (android 11 and 12) and security updates for 3 but no word on the moto g 5g plus specifically

Glad to hear that it will be supported for 2 more years
Ram usage here is higher than 4gb everyday so yeah its smooth and working well so far ... Can you do the antutu on your varient and check the score to compare ?
Ps : dont forget to turn on adaptive performance it really makes it smoother after a couple of days depending on your usage
thanks
thanks for the advice about adaptive performance, i have turned that on and the difference is significant. i do have my reservations about downloading antutu, just because of all the stuff cheetah mobile has been accused of, but i have done some geekbench tests which I screenshotted but I don't knkow how to upload them here,
so the multi core scores averaged at 1838 and
the single threaded at 592 after running 3 tests

Hi ludio22,
I'm going to buy the 4gb version too. How is it going after these two months? Is 4gb really a limit for everyday use?
The phone can be rooted very easily, with the standard Magisk procedure.
