Hey , I'm about to buy a new smartphone and I'm wondering which smartphone will be the best for 300 bucks.
So what I want is a solid build smartphone ,weight doesn't bother me .A powerful CPU and sufficient RAM for Browsing internet,Watching Youtube, Social Media(Multitasking) and playing occasionnaly some games (asphalt,..) .A good Camera I don't care about low light or recording 4K videos I just want some Good Pictures ,more details and sharpness and accurate autofocus since I will use it for social media. And a durable Battery at least one day without charging !!! ; and a loud speakers not the loudest as the Axon 7 but at least audible.
After many searches I found that the Mi 5s is the best, but I heard that some users have encountered some problems with the fingerprint scanner , 4G connectivity , and battery draining too fast, and Problems with multitasking as the phone had to reload apps everytime , I dunno if it's a problem of some units or general.
But I also found these Smartphones : Leeco Le Pro 3, Leeco Le Max 2, Zuk Z2 , Honor 8 , ASUS Zenfone 3, Meizu Pro6, Huawei Honor V8 , Xiaomi Mi 5 , Zte Nubia 11 ,..., if u know something else in this price range please tell me.
So My Priorities are Performance , Camera , Solid Build , Battery , Audio .
Please Guys , tell me which smartphone can handle my needs ? is Mi 5s better than those listed above ?
PS: My Provider 4G bands are 800/1800/1600 Mhz
Thanks in advance.
I was in the similar position as you. I looked into it and came back with the conclusion that of all the Chinese phones, it's the software which a lot of reviews said was jut not as polished as miui. Coming from a nexus stock Android user experience I was a bit worried, but I was dead wrong. I love miui, it feels very nice. Has a similar notification drawer to LG. There were complaints against the mi5 build quality, so I ended ip with the mi5s (4/32 varient due to low price).
The fingerprint reader isn't as fast and magic as my nexus 5x but it's only a small nigle (I use trusted location). Not had any issues with it and an recommending it to my friends
With future updates miui will be polished more and more no worry...

First I was going to get the oneplus t3 but it's slighty to large. I love the oneplus bcs it's as close to stock android you can come without having to flash your own custom ROMs. But since I want a phone that is 5.0-5.5" I found the Mi 5s as a possible alternative.
questions:
1. Can I easily root this phone and flash a nougat ROM so I can use google play store?
To compare I'm currently on Sprint with a rooted HTC 10 running the VENOM ROM.
2. I'm switching to T-mobile where I was planning on using this the Mi5s. I travel abroad quite a bit, does the mi5s have all the bands for international travel?
3. Anything I would miss from my current HTC 10 or oneplus 3t if I make the switch?
Thanks!!
Xiaomi Mi6 will be released this month, you can wait Mi6.

Dear All,
I need to buy a new phone & getting confused between Mi 5 & Mi 5s
Please suggest which one is better over all.
Mi 5 3/32 or Mi 5s 3/64 GB
Price difference is only 30$
Thank in Advance
Mi5s is a upgraded version from the Mi5 with a better build quality, bit faster processor and a better camera. So in my opinion it is really worth those 30 dollar with current custom ROMs making great use of these plus points.

...And with really sh*tty fingerprint reader. You get better fingerprint reader on xiaomi redmi 3s.
With my phone it's working perfectly (always has btw), and so is with anyone using the latest firmware as far as I know.

MI5s ultrasonic fingerprint reader was advertised as very accurate and fast and you could unlock phone with wet or dirty fingerprint, but in real life that's not true. From the beginning speed and accuracy wasn't so great and few months ago my fingerprint reader just stopped working.
Google is full of links like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/5glh5l/xiaomi_mi_5s_fingerprint_sensor_the_worst_i_have/
I regret i didn't buy xiaomi mi5 or oneplus 3.
Which were firmware problems. Those were fixed recently.
/EDIT: To be fair I think for most people the Xiaomi A1 is a better choice. Excellent build quality, Android One, much better battery life, more network bands and a nice low price of 180 euro's at the moment. Unless you game a lot, you probably won't feel the difference in speed all that much.
Example (other shops have roughly same prices):

Or if you want better battery life you can go with Xiaomi redmi note 4 or Xiaomi redmi 5 plus, but they don't have band support like A1 and stock Android. If you don't game too much, everything with Snapdragon 625 or similar would be good enough for everyday usage and battery friendly. Also you can consider buying Huawei honor 9 lite or Huawei honor 7x.
Buy MI5s for its camera. FP is okay don't worry not as fast as others but if that is your main point I have to laugh.
Well, the build quality of Mi 5 is a bit worse.
I strongly recommend to buy Mi 5s instead of Mi 5. It's the improved version of Mi 5 with full-metal body, faster SoC, better camera sensor(same as the Pixel).
I'm using Mi 5s and I think fp is ok.
Better buy neither of them, they are both ****y phones, buy something from oneplus or mi 6/mix 2.

Oh, it's so helpful to writing this without telling any reason.
Battery in this phone is joke, fingerprint scanner works 1/10 of the time, ram management does not exist.
Again, just update the firmware...
It won't help, trust me
Fingerprint working near perfect on my Mi 5s with latest Global stable ROM. I really like my Mi 5s 128GB, only battery time could be a bit better, but that's the CPUs fault mostly.
Also have a look at the Mi 6 which offers optical image stabilizer, which the Mi 5 also has, but the 5s sadly lacks.
I have previously owned both 5s and 5s plus. 5s has good build quality and camera but bad fingerprint reader and mediocre battery life. The larger sibling, 5s Plus is much better IMO. More vibrant screen, slightly faster performance, much better fingerprint reader and battery life. The image sensor on 5s plus is worse but still takes good images if you install the ported google camera mod. I would also consider Mi Note 3 or Mi Mix 2.

Did you have the Mi5S long enough to install the firmware version of the first of March? That one has given the big change. Before that, the FP sensor was indeed not very good.

No, I sold mine in february this year. I am suprised that they finally fixed the FP-reader (one and half year after the release).
I think everyone is
Battery life and FP reader are solved in Miui Pro BETA by Belorus team. Non beta roms all have bad battery life anyway. I do talk here with gaming and without. Now i freely use it all day
Hello Friends,
Could You Please help me out by Recommending a Device between Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Actually i am Currently Using MMX Nitro A311 with ResurrectionRemix ROM. And I need to upgrade to a New Device.
Actually Both the RNote5Pro and ProM1 both make a Tough Competition and with similar specs , making it really tough to choose from. So it is difficult for me in selecting one in my Budget of 15K.
I am Basically in to Info-Sec Field so I need a phone which I can Root Easily and install custom ROM(s) ,if needed. And I need a Decent Good Battery Backup & Processing Power so that I can manage my Studies and Work. And Want Complete Control of my Phone. And I need to Use My Next Phone for a Pretty Long Duration 2-3 Years.
I would Basically use my Phone for Calls, Chats, Youtube, Watching Tutorials, Reading PDFs and Camera is needed for Recording Purpose. Other than that I would use it for TESTING Apps and for Other Info-Sec Purposes.
Since I read that Xiaomi has some issues Now in Rooting and Now with that Anti-Rollback its now more critical.
So Please help me Out by Suggesting. And Leaving Your Kind Genuine Reviews.
Thanks in Advance,

Go for the 6gb variant of the Zenfone Max pro M1. Xiaomi is a headache in terms of unlocking bootloader. I got permission to unlock months ago but I'm still not able to unlock it. Planning to sell my note 5 pro and get Zenfone Max pro!
Recommending something can be biased unless you havent tried both and yes its tough choice to make. Now that 6 gigs version of Asus zenfone max pro is released it can surely out perform 5 pro and in your case for a device to stay as much as 2-3 years i would vote hands down for max pro m1 6 gigs since 4+64gigs will age by that time. only thing which was letting max pro down compared to 5 pro was camera which now said to be improved since asus isnt launching zenfone 5 in india so its they're best bit in budget segment market. Speaking of development on both phone should be the same since both are powered by same processor and are treble enabled.
and Yes I am frustated with unlocking bootloader and antiroll thing since its only way they make money by making people use their bloatware and UI which is otherwise in asus case
so verdict ASUS FOR THE GO.
100% Redmi Note 5 Pro
And
Mi A2 Coming Shortly

I actually sold my RN5 Pro yesterday and will get Asus. Left all the groups of Telegram too. It's not worth investing time in custom roms anymore since it's a lot of headache with anti3/4, unlock bootloader etc.
I've used the 4GB Asus variant for few days, exchanged my ph with a friend, I won't say it's bug free phone but there is no phone that's bug free. For Asus: Once you've got used to receive otas from oem, security patches every bi monthly, stock Android with few addons ( double tap), can unlock unofficially and relock for warranty, I feel Asus has a lot of advantage here.
I'm pretty sure few will tell you about prior issues they had specially with Asus Zenphone phs that were based on Intel cpus but I would suggest you to ignore. Asus has learned from such mistakes, went with SD this time which I'm sure will get good dev support if you're into flashing roms.
For me, getting a stock rom ph, easy to root/unlock bootloader just to use ad blocker, good battery life, decent hardware, no boatloader 20 days waiting, no anti3/4, no mi fans nonsense. I've heard the camera outperforms RN5P but I haven't checked about it since I'm sure all mid end phs does the social sharing job. I'm investing my money with Asus this time.
simple sir , go for asus if your main priority into custom roms etc , you can simply unlock and flash anything right after buying .
this redmi note 5 pro/ai maybe good at camera but asus max pro m1 seems had an advantages on other specs.

The only thing better with Asus is the bigger battery. I don't understand how it has advantage in other specs? It does not support WiFI a/ac nor does it have an IR blaster for example and there is no mention of presence/absence of Gorilla Glass on Asus. Now I have a RN5 AI, so this has better camera specs than all M1 variants, but the RN5Pro still has a slight advantage with 3/4gb vs 3/4gb variants.
Yes the Xiaomi made i d*ck move by implementing ARB without making possibility to disable it, but you can still flash custom roms just as you always did, it's the unlocking method that's a bit more confusing than it was.
Don't get me wrong, I'm just stating the facts, you can check the specs by yourself.
Of course being on the Xiaomi forums there has to be a bit of bias for it, but in the end you go for what you want/need/have money for. The devices are similar, what made me lean to this side was better camera specs (f/1.9 aperture, dual pixel focus and bigger sensor), WiFi support, IR blaster and a rich modding community. Now I never used Asus devices nor do I know it's modding potential and devs interest, but I guess it's going to be good enough since it's cheap. The RN5 got a head start though, a lot of good devs are here.

i own both devices sir , i buyed redmi note 5 ai at the end of May and recently last week asus max pro m1 , i didnt use ir blaster and i dnt really know what is wifi a/ac .
from both device what makes me choose max pro m1 because the battery can last longer than my rn5 about an hour + in same usage , its has rgb led notification , the bottom speaker was way to better than rn5 , dedicated memory slot so nice if im planned to sell my rn5 and use with 1 device only, easily unlock bootloader and flash it with twrp+root without worrying anything , and cheaper than my rn5
sorry if something not right here ,its my own opinion sir im still xiaomi user for more than 15 devices variant , just comparing it with my own experience of usage .
Just wait for MI A2.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention the separate slot for SD card, which indeed is nice to have and RGB led which I didn't know it has But since I only use one SIM that's not something I need and speaker wise, it's good enough for me
In the end, one has to choose based on his needs and preferences, I would go for RN5, but that's my 2 cents we are giving pros and cons for both anyway
From reviews that I saw, the Zenfone has a pretty slow fingerprint scanner than the RN5. But they might've fixed that in an update. If I was in India, I'd go for the Zenfone (I wanted to get it before RN5 but I'm not in India), simply for the bigger battery. I'm not much of a camera guy, all I care about is lag free UI, decent gaming performance, good battery life, and sleek modern design.
Redmi note 5 pro, never had any problems in terms of modding & stuff. Besides it's very hard to get your hands on a Zenfone Max M1 (at least here in europe). The choice is yours, both are decent and 4 + 64 will be enough also in 3 years!

Just bit off IP. If you have still troubles with unlocking bootloader. Only thing you need is to use kinda very old Mi Unlock app. I am in work, so I cant provide you with the exact version I used, but I didnt have to wait that ridiculous time. Just PM and I will send u.
Right now I am considering to buy whyred(4gb) or the max pro m1(6gb), both are great devices but the recent arb situation on the whyred is concerning and also I see a lot of people over on the max pro m1 forums complaining about the bugs and battery drain issues.
My usage comprises of heavy gaming, twitch, youtube and social media
I would like to flash pixel experience rom after a couple of months after I get the device.
Screen quality is also a high priority for me (vivid colors and cool tone).
Headphone quality should also be good.
Battery life isn't a huge concern for me but should be adequate for 5hr+ pubg on 1 charge.
Camera doesn't matter.
Build quality should be good as I will be using the device for at most 3 good years.
I am sorry for bothering all of you but I was really confused which one to buy.

Buy The Zenfone Max Pro M1 6Gb
You'll get more ram which means better memory management. Also it performs slightly better due to the stock android. The Camera is good as well but the RN5 pro has a slightly better camera(that's why i bought it).
Both the phones have great build quality. And the Max M1 Pro will have greater battery life compared to the RN5 PRO as it has a 5000 mah battery. So you'll be able to game and stream videos for a longer period. The screen is pretty much the same on both devices. Don't get me wrong the RN5 PRO is a great phone for the price but the Zenfone beats it because of the extra Ram and the mammoth battery
Peace .

Buy the Redmi note 5 pro because
1. 4gb RAM is definitly enough, it's like 8gb of RAM is enough for PC gaming -> you don't need 16gb. It's the same here: yeah you might have 2gb more of RAM but it doesn't really matter
2. Incredible community/modding support: I've flashed ResurrectionRemix OS and I could even overclock my phone with a custom kernel in notime.
3. The camera is the best one up to 400€: I've searched a lot and I'm pretty sure that's the case: the Redmi note 5 pro camera is incredible, especially with a modded version of google camera (and camera2api lvl3 support on custom roms).
4. Very good screen and "apple like" build quality (so really really good)
5. I play clash royal: the screen is amazing & very good and the game runs very smooth. In addition I watch youtube and twitch and it's really fun because of the big screen and stuff. Again: you would have the same on the Asus zenfone max pro m1 as well but xiaomi is doing pretty well!
6. The asus zenfone max pro m1 is more expansive: On aliexpress (only website I've managed to find it) it's ~250€-300€ at the same time the redmi note 5 pro is ~200€ in a european shop (including taxes) ~160-180€ in a china shop.
It's up to you: both phones are pretty good but I would give the redmi note 5 pro an advantage.

Zenfone Max Pro M1 is India exclusive that's why you couldn't find it anywhere. On Flipkart, it is cheaper than the RN5 Pro, 3rd party sellers on websites like Aliexpress will want to make a profit, thus the higher price tag.
I'd personally go with the RN5.
I'm gonna hit myself in the balls and buy the Mi A2 Lite (I owned a Mi A1 phone but I broke it) and I want to check out this phone because why not? (Don't say it)
Did XIAOMI fixed their mistakes with the Mi A1? Missing EIS, broken updates etc.
People who already have the phone:
How is it? Good or bad for that price range? (I know I could get a better phone for the same amount of money so don't say it)
If anyone had a Mi A1 is anything better with Mi A2 Lite than with Mi A1?

Well, I don't know about the Mi A1, but I've been using the A2 Lite for a few days and everything looks great...if you can get the 64/4 for 180-200$ or the 32/3 for a bit less it's good enough.
You could get better phones, for me android one is the deal-breaker. I just like stock android, and hate OEM's skins.
Battery life is really good, camera is ok, no laggy UI and it's updated to the latest security patch (August 5th).
If Android One is what you're looking for then yes, this phone is good for it's price range.
It's not a camera phone, but it takes nice photos if the light allows it, and is not a gaming phone, but gets the job done on my day to day use (which consists in no social apps installed, only Boost for Reddit and Whatsapp)
For the most part is a smaller A1 with a bigger battery.
I come from an S8, and I don't miss a single thing. Maybe the USB-C, but I couldn't care less. I needed a phone with near to stock Android, good battery life and comfortable size. This is it. If you have other needs, you can get something else for sure!

1- I don't know. If I'm not wrong, no EIS by default, but with GCam I got some nice video stabilization compared to stock camera.
Only two OTA updates until now, both installed without problems, and they both come regularly in the second half of the month.
2- As you said, you can get better phones for the same money. The main reason I bought this phone is the 72 mm width, that you won't find at this price with all the features of Mi A2 Lite.
3- I don't have Mi A1 but the main differences with A2 Lite are the dimensions (A1 bigger than A2 Lite), the battery (3000 mAh on A1 vs 4000 mAh on A2 Lite) and the screen (regular 16:9 A1 vs 18:9 with notch on A2 Lite).

Too early to tell with the software but it does come with Treble so that is a bonus, It does see like EIS is included in the video and seems to work.

Coming from a OnePlus 5, I wanted something smaller and this was one of the few devices under ~72mm. The 625 is sufficient for everything I do (Mostly Calls, Texting, Youtube & Social Media) (No Games). Camera is acceptable, not great not unusable. 4000mAh is just an awesome bonus. Phone is nice and loud. The only other device that caught my eye is the Nokia 6.1 Plus but I'm skeptical because the camera might be worse, isn't widely available and audio quality is questionable.

Phone still kind of big prefer it was a bit narrow and shorter.
Yeah same here but there aren't many options.
I've just ordered the Lite from Amazon. I've had an A1 for 2 days, but it seems broken so is going back. Main reasons for not going full A2 are the battery, I have a million micro USB cables, and the size. I don't need a top end phone, so for £155 and Google One, the lite is a total bargain.
Friends - If you already got delivery from amazon or bought from mi store in India. Please help with following details:
1) LCD Panel - Tianma or something else. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-8/help/redmi-note-8-tianma-lcd-panel-t3991425
2) 48 MB - Samsung GM1 or GM2
3) LT FDD and TDD bands supported. 4G+ working? Now is call quality, signal strength, speed?
4) If anyone of you have a realme 3 pro or 5 pro handy, try to compare on Point 3 above.
5) Speaker quality?
6) Fingerprint speed. If you have used RN7pro or realme 3 pro or Realme 5 pro, it may seem slow. That is what I understood from some video reviews on youtube.
Plz help. Nitpicking but very confused between Redmi Note 8 and Realme 3 pro. Ordered both at same price.
Will accept one and cancel another order.
RN8 pros over RM3Pro - Type C, Led Notification, Cameras?, Ir Blaster, MiUI (not a fan, but better than color os)
RM3Pro over RN8 - Processor (Huge difference. SD710 is way ahead. Better ISP, Better core and speed, Better AI, Better LTE (X15). SD665 pubg options are very low ), Better call and network quality (I heard), Vooc Charger.
What do you suggest.
Someone help here with some insights please.

Custom Rom support on 3 pro is not that good. Still no official and stable roms. Multiple bugs. I have researched. I have been using custom roms for 5 years now Moto G1 and then Lenovo Z2 plus.
I consoled myself to adjust with Color OS also as SD 710 at this price is gr8 deal but color os specially on realme 3 pro has serious standby and battery drain issues it seems.
Except processor everything seems better on RN8.
SD665 is in a way downgrade from SD660 than an upgrade.

If I were you I would have gone with redmi note 7 pro which is at 12k (Sony imx 586 is beast) now but if you don't want that then you should wait for redmi note 9 as their odd no series is much better like redmi note 3,5,7 etc
And if you can't wait for it then gsi's can be installed on realme 3 pro and currently rom development hasn't taken pace for redmi note 8 too so I think little wait should be better.
One more thing realme launches devices more frequently and realme 6 box has came in leaks so whenever realme 6 pro launches you can get realme 5 pro in 10k (which will hardly take 6 months)
Conclusion : little patience and wait will be better if you don't need new device urgently

It is urgent. Sold my Lenovo Z2 plus on cashify. Battery would have died any day.
Using a freind's old phone temporarily.
Ordered both Realme 3 pro and Redmi note 8 at 9k. Have to settle with one of these for now.
Did lot of research. Not a single satisfactory phone in midrange without any flaws
So decided to go for less price for now and upgrade later after 1 year maybe.
Then go with realme 3 pro if can bear color os or can flash gsi (phusson sir's gsi's are pretty stable though) . And realme is working on more stock like rom too this is more bang for buck now. Faster charging and faster processor are the things you will notice in day to day life more rather than type c port and for camera gcam will do the job on both so you don't have to worry about cameras as both have capable sensors too

i am having Indian Unit.
1. IT has Tianama Panel
2.GM1 sensor
3.It supports all Indian 4G bands. And It has 4G+ (Jio) getting good net speed, signal strength and call quality is good, but ear piece is not that loud so u ill get bit low voice while u r on crowd place.
4. If u doesnt bother about 4G+ then u can go with realme 3 Pro. Their Color OS keep on getting improvements.
5. Loudspeaker is good but on max volume u ill get some distortions. 80% volume is good
6.FP is good no issues.
I am using realme 5 pro.. Color os is Not that bad.. and on debloting its very smooth. And use nova.. U will have good experiemce withsd 710.. And also cameras are good .Gcam improves it.. Also charging speed will definitely gives peace of mind. I like vooc charger.. And reception is better than my previous galaxy devices.. Internet speeds too..
