S-On, relocked, can't unlock due to no ROM. - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I was s-on running a custom rom but wanted to go to stock update fw.So i relocked the bootloader, and that blocked me out of recovery and also a working rom. I can't use the unlocktoken as it asks for the unlock flag to be reset, which i cant do as it wont boot into a rom.
I also cannot find an RUU for my current main-version.
Edit:I think a 2.9.710.2 RUU would work, as i'm s-on
Any ideas?
Cheers

First off, can you boot into download mode and try this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/hima-stock-rom-collection-htc-one-m9-t3095746
Otherwise, your phone is effectively bricked & there isn't a known workaround so far :/ . In this case it's best that you contact your isp or htc for servicing.

As I can see you need a Vodafone Australian RUU equal or higher than your version-main number.
Unfortunately I could not find one for you.

An RUU will do the job, might not even have to be from the same region, just to get you back up and running.
You should be able to force the device into recovery if you can get to the bootloader.
From the bootloader, i'm sure you could flash a recovery and perhaps even root the device (could be wrong there)
either way there would have been a way out of it.

Yeah so i couldn't get into a recovery as i had twrp running, and i couldnt flash a new one as it was relocked. I couldn't unlock it as i had no rom to boot into to turn the unlock flag. So yeah stuck in the bootloader. It's supposed to be back tomorrow so i'll keep you guys posted.

well you need a certain HBOOT to run the 2.17 nand... but i don't remember which was the required HBOOT for 2.17. the best thing would be to update the HBOOT to the latest version and then flash the nand backup

Yeah, you need to be locked. When you unlock again, it will wipe the phone
Take a nandroid backup and then
fastboot oem lock
Then try hboot update again.

first thing you need unlocked bootloader to flash anything like recovery and all..
after unlocking bootloader u can flash roms and all & also root ur phone..
since if never root your phone..stock rom still in ur phone..nothing changed.
so you just need to factory reset via hboot menu..
if you wana root your phone..
unlock bootloader via htcdev and use htcsupertool..
then you can flash cwm recovery via hboot and also then you can flash stock rom too..if your phn still stuck at htc logo..
and also if u nvr root phn u cn directly go to service center they cn flash stock rom easily and that ll solve ur prob fast

hmm what is ur software version 2.13 or 2.26 because in htcdev if you have 2.13 you have to download file or if 2.26 you dont have to.
and second without unlocking bootloader ruu won't work.
if you have unlocked bootloader+cwm recovery then you can flash any ruu.

so after days of searching and trying i still cant revive my wfs
so far what i've done
> download and tried different ruu from shippedroms > gives me error 131
> i tried the wfs all in one toolkit > when i try to get token id i get a command error
> ruu from htcdev gives me an error 191
> when i try to flash images (hboot, system, recovery) > give a checksum or something like that error
^^ i think this because im not rooted or boot loader unlocked
i haven't tried creating a gold card using it and that would be my next step
my question is can i try making it using another phone (a xperia x10 mini)?
or do i need another wfs?

With goldcard you can flash any ruu but still im confused about your phone version.
Its marvel(GSM) OR marvelc(CDMA)?
But for using goldcard you need two things:
Bootloader unlocked
Cwm recovery

Nopes..sony and htc are different.if you want to create goldcard you need your phone ,sdcard and computer.
Because sdcard uses as copy CID.and you cnt use x10 mini goldcard.
But still you needs unlocked bootloader and cwm recovery to use bl-tool..then you can flash any ruu..
Dnt compare both phone.they are different..
First you need to unlocked ur phone..goldcard and all things comes later if you your phone is bricked and you need stock rom, update radio etc.
EDIT:
first of all you need to root your phone, your bootloader is not updated so you need to update is via htcdev.and then root it.still htcdev not working.i have no idea how to unlock it.

You just want to run stock ROM?? If yes go to service center they will do it for you..

used rumrunner, had s-off now i dont

so on my Verizon htc one I wanted to unlock my bootloader and get s-off. I used rumrunner which gave me s-off. after not being able to flash a recovery I was on a forum that suggested I type a certain adb command to see if I was actually unlocked. (I was able to finally get a custom recovery after trial and error) but after using that command It somehow managed to get my device s-on... is there any way to fix this? I don't want to run rumrunner again because it says you have to run that program with the device completely stock.

if your bootloader is unlocked you can flash a rom.
i had my bootloader unlocked at day one. you need a stock rom, and stock recovery and rumrunner should work.
I ran rumrunner with cwm installed and it worked fine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
The recovery does not need to be stock, I ran Rumrunner with the TWRP recovery had it worked just fine. What is important for Rumrunner is the stock rom and stock kernel, without those you will get errors.
When I was trying to get Rumrunner to work I was having a lot of trouble since I htcdev unlocked my phone on day one and had been flashing roms since then. I tried flashing every stock rom I could find and none of them worked for me, I even tried flashing partitions individually but nothing I tried could get Rumrunner to start the pourings sequence. The only thing that saved me was that I found a nandroid that I had saved on my hard drive that I completely forgot about. After I flashed the nandroid and enabled/diabled what needed to be, I ran Rumrunner and finally it completed after only 3 pourings.

Stock boot.img is what you need. You don't need the stock recovery. I also did it with TWRP as my recovery.

Should be able to just flash the stock .10 Full Odexed rom that I posted.
It contains the stock rom files and Boot.img.
Then run Rumrunner.

Rooted M8, now trying to unroot so I can get updates.

Hey all
Just bought a M8 and I wanted to root if for a few apps I use, however I didn't know that by putting a custom recovery mod I would not be able to update my phone. So I am trying my best to get it back to stock however I can not find a RUU that matches my CID. Could someone please help me find a way to get my phone back to stock so I can get updates with no problems.
-Cheers
P.S: Lesson learnt, always back up your phone before attempting this bull**** -.-, miss my s4. Could find anything I needed on that thing.

You don't need to unroot to get updates. If you're s-off just flash a stock recovery. If your s-on flash a stock recovery and relock the boot loader. Takes about 2 mins to do either.

Like I already said all you need do is flash one of the stock recoveries from this thread, use whichever you had originally for your CID.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You can't ota with a custom recovery.
I love ViperROM and would never want to go back. They are very good about getting updates out pretty quick. So not long after an official OTA comes I think Viper is quick on it. I believe we already had one for the M8. My friend has tried a few roms and thinks Viper is the best.

Did you read anything on the stock backup page?
As long as the base number is the same then you should be able to flash a recovery that matches. You have software version 1.54.708.5 so just flash one that begins with 1.54.
The nearest is:
STOCK RECOVERY 1.54.707.5
Nothing will happen so just go ahead and try it.
Here's the OTA, but it won't install unless you already have the stock OS installed.

You still have KitKat firmware, as shown by your OS version. You CANNOT flash a modified firmware package while S-On. You need to either run a signed RUU, or go back to stock and use HTC's/your carrier's OTA updates.
Do you have a stock ruu? or maybe how to s-off? because i cant find anywhere firewater.

What firmware did you try to flash? It looks like it was GPE firmware.
Is your bootloader screen black or white now?
My bootloader screen it's black, it's that important?...
And the firmware was download from HDRevolution website.

Yup, that's very important. Black hboot screen is the GPE version (and white is Sense version hboot). You at least partially flashed a GPE firmware. This isn't supposed to happen with s-on (firmware for other versions should be blocked). But I do remember a while back, a few folks having the same issue; where a GPE firmware or RUU partially flashed (with s-on) and caused some problems.

I don't know why you flashed this. Not only is it not current firmware (Kitkat, as another noted before), but its not even for your version (its GPE version firmware, as I mentioned).

That is the proper RUU for the AT&T version; and your bootloader is relocked, as it should be for RUU.
So I think the problem is the GPE firmware you flashed before.
Try flashing the proper firmware first, then RUU again, and hopefully that will work.
I can't find the 4.28.502.2 firmware. But 4.28.502.1 firmware is posted on the following. Use the Full stock firmware. Hopefully, this is close enough to 4.28.502.2 to work.

That RUU will not work, anyway. Its for the Developer Edition, so the only way to run it would be to change your CID (s-off required, and working OS is needed to s-off).

Firewater was discontinued by its devs in December 2014. Since it has an online component (needed to connect to servers), it won't work even if you find the firewater binary.
Sunshine is the only current working s-off method, and as I mentioned, it requires a working OS to work.

Yes, firmware needs to have the same CID and MID. But the 3.11.1700.5 firmware doesn't go with your CID and MID (CWS__001 and 0P6B12000)
"1700" firmwares (such as 3.11.1700.5) are for the Google Play Edition (GPE) with CID of GOOGL001 and MID of 0P6B17000.
Proper firmwares for your AT&T CID and MID will have the number "502" in the position x.xx.502.x

That's right. And as I already stated, sunshine requires a working OS, which you don't have. And since getting the OS working again seems to be the main reason you want to get s-off, you see its quite pointless.

No problem And to flash this firmware i can do it like this:
f you are S-ON ---> Re-lock your bootloader (this will most probably wipe content of your device)
If you are S-OFF ---> no need to re-lock the bootloader.
Copy downloaded .zip to fastboot.exe location (e.g. c:/SDK/platform-tools/fastboot.exe)
Re-name .zip file to firmware.zip
Open command prompt
Boot your device in fastboot mode (vol down + power ===> fastboot)
Connect device to the PC
In command prompt cd to fastboot.exe location
Make sure you have correct modeid and cidnum (type: fastboot getvar all)
Type: fastboot oem lock (if your device is not relocked yet or in case it's S-ON)
Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU and wait for device to reboot
Type: fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and wait for process to complete
Sometimes flashing for the first time doesn't work, so flash firmware.zip again just to make sure.
Type: fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and wait for process to complete
Type: fastboot reboot
Unlock your bootloader and flash custom recovery if you are going to use custom ROM.

Those might be unsigned firmwares, but I thought they were signed.
I think your options at this point:
1) Find signed firmwares of the versions I recommended.
2) Unlock the bootloader again, flash TWRP again, then flash a 3.xx based custom or stock ROM (which will have working WiFi). Then s-off by sunshine so you can fix the firmware (will allow an unsigned firmware to be flashed).
Another thing to note, when you flashed the GPE firmware, it reverted the recovery back to stock recovery. Which is why you no longer have custom recovery.
