My battery doesn't last a day, and when it does run out everything gets wiped.
Is there anything that can be done about this? I install things to an external card but it is still a problem.
Seems a shame. Makes the whole thing useless to me, yet the device can almost do everything I need.
I can't even fix it into my car because that would either drain the car battery or it will run out of power itself.
Is your "beam" disabled? That can drain the battery very quickly.

If your running the original release rom , check to see if your provider released any newer versions. Orange, O2 , and T-mobile all released newer roms that improoved both battery life and bluetooth stability. Also as suggested above, turn off anything your not using directly and turn them on as you need them then back off when your done. Ie: Bluetooth , Ir beam, Wireless. as all are power hungry. Also there are alrger capacity batteries for the BA 3rd party. Another consideration is to keep a watch maybe with a battery meter, PLENTY of frebies out there just google search pocket PC freeware. and watch the internal battery as the ONLY reason you would loose everything when your external battery went flat is if the internal battery got drained or was faulty. as it retains the info while you change batteries or till you can put it on charge and usually the BA will refuse to stay on if it's low.
Another thought just occured too. SPB backup or similar and tell it to Backup the WHOLE thing to your storage card internally if it's not full OR preferrably and SD card if you loose things while your out you can literally restore the BA from the storage card as the backup file is an executable and will fully restore your BA and all it's installed programs kinda like Norton Ghost does for a PC.
It's commercial software but works really good.

i tried everything...as in the previous post, it will idle fine, but as soon as something processor intensive runs, the phone dies...
having to use it while plugged in tends to take the 'mobile' out of mobile phone...to me, the dash became useless.

use omap clock which comes with the kavana/ricky 6.1 rom..in 'my tools" you should see OMAP
Oh great...... Well I just recieved a new battery and it seems to do exactly that, reboots the phone as soon as i try to open or do anything on it... cheap, but my old battery works fine? how does that make sense?
I brought a new battery 1050 mah with a 12 month warranty for $21 now it doesnt shut off any more, but now my problem is active syne because im trying to update/upgrade from wm5 i had it before but i took it off because i thought the kavana 6 was the reason it went black but now i cant even do a new rom ugh!

The REAL Fix
Ok here is the scoop, all the OEM batteries are "expiring" which means you get a new one, it works for a week or a few weeks but it still goes bad and does exactly what the last battery was doing, which is cutout, and your phone goes black and won't come on again in many instances despite a full charge on the battery. Buy a new battery from simplo does not work long either. You will have to get on ebay and get an extended life battery. They make fat ones, and high-capacity ones (thin) ones. They cost more but they are manufactures much later than the original oem and oem-like batteries, except they are not expired. I went through three batteries, went to lots of forums, read lots of stuff and finally found an extended life battery that I could afford IE 12 bucks, some go for as much as 90 bucks but I'm not shelling that much out. Anyways 3 months problem free, and I got this phone cheap because of the battery black-out problem. hehehe That is the real scoop. The phones are still great, just ALL the normal batteries are no good, even the new ones. My battery is 1100mah for your reference a like or greater capacity battery would work great.
new battery then hard reset
This has been a problem through the last two Dashes that I have owned. This was on the previous Dash posted last December. I am awaiting my 4th Dash! I am hoping that, with someone on here's help, this one will be the one that will work!
My Dash has had 6.1 then I went back to 6.0 after having this problem:
Initially this would occur when I would try to access the internet, email, etc. it would just shut down. Now the problem occurs when in a call as well. The Dash shuts down. I would try to reboot but it reads my battery as dead. I tried different batteries, same problem. THe only way to reboot is to plug into recharge. It will reboot but still reads the battery as 0%. When I reboot on power after the initial reboot, it reads the battery as full again. I can keep the Dash on for awhile but, when receiving a call or when it tries to get email (not All the time, just most of the time) it shuts down again.
I took the phone to a repair shop and they replaced the circuit board but it still did the same thing. After reading this thread, the constant is the memory card. Could this be the problem?
I received the Dash Black to replace it two weeks ago and virtually the same thing happened. This was after just two weeks of having the new Dash Black!
Exclamation HELP! - Dash Black - 6.1 Rose - MMS, Internet connectivity problems
I am not sure what is going on, my Dash was connecting fine but all of a sudden, it is trying to connect to email and draining the battery in the process. It is also failing to download weather info on the widget on the home screen. Memory is being drained and RAM is loaded down more and more. I cannot connect to MMS anymore (That was the first sign of trouble) and it seems to take forever to go from one part of the home screen to another.
I actually had a similar problem with the previous Dash that I had which culminated in it finally cutting off at random times, especially when connecting to the internet or in a call. I was able to solve the problem when it got bad by doing a hard reset but, you can imagine, I hated going to such an extreme all the time since I have to reinstall everything over and over again! Unfortunately, with this phone, the hard reset did not solve the problem. With the last phone, it finally died completely, it would work for awhile but would not stay in a call.
I had this Dash Black replaced (still within the two week window, BARELY!) and it should arrive today. On other forums, I read another user having the same problem and a suggestion was "too many 3rd party applications" Well, that sounded good BUT, after reflashing to the T-Mobile approved ROM, it still did the same thing, shut down whenever it felt like it and would not reboot unless on the power supply.
Now, I REALLY like the ROSE 1.7 but, then again, I really like the phone too! I have a different memory card so that cannot be the problem, I have used Kavana 6.1, Rose 6.1 1.7, as well as T-Mobile 6.0 on the last Dash with the same problems. Should I tempt fate by reflashing this Dash to one of the 6.1's? It seems like, if this was the cause, Someone should have had the same problem before, especially posting on here. I am not using too many 3rd party apps:
Agendus Pro
Google Maps
Bible Reader
Avantgo (though, I had not had a chance to really use this one much)
Email for 3 accounts, one internet, hotmail, yahoo
Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Notes
Adobe PDF reader
YGo!
That's it. There are the pre-installed from the 6.1 that I have used but nothing else that should be causing this breakdown in connectivity. The battery being misread as being dead is really confusing. Though, when it started having the problems, it would hang during trying to connect or disconnect while downloading email.
Ideas? Please! I LOVE this phone and would like to, at the very least, be able to make phone calls with the new phone!
Its fairly obvious, something you are doing is causing this issue. The odds of it happen FOUR times on four different devices and it being one of the ROMs is astronomical at best.
You replaced the Memory card, this solves that problem in part. How do you access the card via card reader or via the Dash on your computer? You could have a defective cable or card reader that is in turn damaging your card.
Do you overclock? if so what speed and do you overclock regularly?
Battery? Have you replaced it or are you simply using the same battery in all of these devices? Usually cutting off and battery reading 0 is a bad battery.
Third party programs is not usually a concern, you dont even want to know how many things i run on my Dash on a daily basis lol
Hmmmmmm
Actually, I have had 4 Dashes but only two have had this problem. The first was replaced because of a defective screen, the second I used almost a year before it exhibited this problem. The third, that is the one I just replaced and this is the 4th, the one I received today.
Well, unfortunately, I have used different cables, I access the memory card through the Dash with installed programs or through Explorer as a Mobile Device in Windows XP and ActiveSync.
This is the second Memory card, having purchased a new one when I got the new Black in case that might have been the problem. I am also using a new Battery, I purchased a new battery when the second Dash started having problems. When it would die, I could switch out the battery and it would read the different battery as fresh, even if the other were charged. The battery in this new one came with the Dash I got 2 weeks ago. I also have another one that is new as well.
I thought about overclocking but actually did not try that. I am not sure enough about how much to overclock and what setting I should use. I heard in one post that OMAP might be the problem. The only thing in common with each Dash that had the problem was the flash to 6.1. Neither had a problem until after the flash. Maybe I was holding my mouth wrong when I flashed it!
Ideas after eliminating the battery and the memory and overclocking? Has anyone ever experienced the operating system misreading the battery?
Battery and Card are the usual suspects, with them gone we are back to the ROM. I have three Dashes, two have 6.1 installed and are used heavily the third is my guinea pig when it comes to testing new cooks, applications etc neither of the two 6.1's show any signs such as what you described.
So I am at a loss, sorry. hopefully this forth Dash works out better. perhaps you should stay away from cooked ROMs and see if the issues reappear, then you can start to narrow it down from there.
Here is a thought, charger. A friend of mine baked his battery using an old Motorola car charger because the mini usb was the 'same' ultimately he screwed his battery / dash up by using the non htc charger. How do you charge yours?
Hmmmmmm, could be!
I go from the USB charger to the plug in. I usually go for the USB and that just MIGHT be the common thread! I think that I will stick with sync ing my Dash on the USB BUT only sync, use the charger for the actual charging.
Thanks! That might be our missing element.

hard reset?
Are you closing programs and freeing memory when you stop using the apps and what not? I know of people who always have issues with phones and then you come to find out they treat them like crap and then wonder why its slow. Do you charge it every night or do you charge it every 2 weeks? Did you follow the flashing instructions by detail? I am sure that its something you are doing. I am not a noob but not even an expert and I had no issues with the Dash.
Hi there, I was looking for some ideas about a bizarre battery problem with my daughters xperia zl.
I know this model has had many issues with the battery dying, the net is full of threads about it.I like the phone and have replaced the battery before, and am usually up and running for quite a while.
The last battery died, and I ordered another to replace it.Here's the thing though, the new battery is working when the phone backing is off and is connected to the mainboard. When I install the battery in the phone, and then connect it, it doesn't work.
I find this really bizarre, maybe something is shorting out somewhere?I kind of suspect it could be something to do with the grounding cable (strip that runs across the bottom of battery), but if that was the case, why would it work when the battery is connected outside the phone?
Has anyone else run into a similar scenario?Any ideas would be very helpful, I haven't come across an issue like this before...
Thanks
Turned out to be the battery...
Turned out to be the battery.
I like the phone and finally got around to ordering another battery.I guess it can be hit and miss when it comes to replacements.Hopefully, this one that came from Turkey will give me at least another year or so of use...
Heey everyone,
My phone has some serious problems. I'm talking about percentage not showing correctly, because of that the phone will go off at random. As the percentage that is shown (for example 43%) is actually a lot less (it's actually 0%). And when I try to turn it on, the phone must be charging, otherwise the chance of data getting deleted is almost 100% (I think around 85%). And with the data deletion problem comes the storage problem, because the data is probably still on there but not accessible by android or something and therefore my phone can't install updates now(the apps are all stock) even though they were on there the moment the phone shut off.
I hope you guys still understand the situation, but now my actual question
Because these problems are all the cause of a faulty battery, I want to replace the battery with a new one.
I couldn't find replacements for our butterfly 3 phone, but there are ones for the M8, M9 and M9+.
These batteries look very similar and I actually think they are the exact same size and they do have the same connector.
Since so many things are similar between the M9/M9+ and our Butterfly 3, I thought those batteries also fit our phone.
But since taking the phone apart is not easy and of course risky, I would like to ask if anyone here has taken apart a HTC (HTV31) Butterfly 3 before.
If so, could that someone please tell me how this phone can be disassembled and maybe even tell me what the size and the connector of the battery are.
I could of course just buy a new phone, but this phone is the only one on the market(!!!) that fits all my needs. And replacing the battery is cheaper than buying a new one. As I got lucky somehow that I didn't have to pay any taxes or anything when I bought it around 1.5 years ago. And the prices on ebay are definitely higher than back then.
If any of you has some other ideas to solve my problem or has a better phone with almost the same specs, then place say so
PS. If it's possible to use the battery of the M9, then I will try to put a larger capacity battery in it, as this capacity is a bit low.
you can go to taobao.com, look for the battery.

Thank you!
The website with the tutorial doesn't load unfortunately, but as I almost bought the battery for the M9, I am happy I now know they aren't the same.
Thanks again.
EDIT: Turns out that the images don't load. Do the images load for someone here? Would very much appreciate it if someone could upload the images somewhere.
I have the exact same problem with my htc butterfly 3
I am looking for a fix of the exact same problems for a long time. Havent found one. If u found a fix plz do let me know
