Android Pay - Note3 isn't "Compatible"? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Themes and Apps

Just got the notification that Android Pay is available for download, but the app page on the Play Store says my device isn't compatible. Running Jasmine ROM 5.1

I'm all stock and no root, and it says mine is incompatible as well. It won't show up i n Store search, when I find it via a direct link, it says incompatible. I have the older Google Wallet installed and it seems orphaned from the app store.
Seems from reading around the the net that some Note 3's have an incompatible chip set. Not sure yet. I'm pretty irked about it at this point. Had high hopes.
Anyone know what Assurion is giving out for Note 3 replacements? Note 4s?

I will confirm this on this weekend. I just spoke to Verizon and they stated it's an nfc incompatibility. But they are giving away the new updated sim/nfc cards. They just mailed mine out today. So I should get it Saturday. Will confirm if my app changes settings options to enable tap and pay.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully your next one is that it's working!

I hope so. The tech I spoke with said she has been with Verizon tech almost as long as I have been a customer (she mentioned that specifically) and I have been a customer since early 2000s. She seemed to know what she was talking about saying she has mailed out many new updated sim/nfc cards for note 3 users since isis/soft card was shut down. After some further researching, this appears to be the case. Verizon had a deal with samsung to launch with a secured sim/nfc card that was locked for isis/softcard. Now that is shutdown, Verizon is freely giving the new HCE (unsecured/unlocked) sim/nfc card just by asking for it. Again I will confirm that this weekend.

Well, guessing that didn't work out so well... . Bummer.

Google Updates

So since updates for Galaxy Nexus (CDMA) will come directly from google and they just announced 4.0.3. Do you think we should be seeing an OTA soon or should we expect hassle from Verizon?

Updates directly from Google :-D

No matter who the update officially comes from, Verizon still has to check it first. They're going to make sure it works on their network before pushing out.
That being said, you should expect it soon. If Google says its coming, its probably pretty close.

Well it has to go to the carrier at some point. It definitely gets expedited in this situation but you'd be crazy to think that Verizon would ever let an update push out to thousands of people without any testing.
Since the updates will comes straight from Google it is my theory that Google will work closely with Verizon to test the OTA prior to pushing it out. Basically, no worries that we are going to get anything later than anyone else. Google won't push it out till it has approval from both sides.

Clarification on Verizon 7.1.2

First of all apologies if this is in the wrong area. Please move and or let me know.
I've read through multiple threads and posts and I want to make sure I'm understanding things.
I have a pixel XL on Verizon at 7.1.2 with all the updates etc already applied (because I was stupid and didn't read before I did these things).
Based on what I read depixel8 it seems depixel8 was an option up until 7.1 andif you didn't get unlocked then then you are sol at this time. Is that right?
Am I correct that without an unlocked bootloader there is no TWRP no root and no custom ROMs? Some posts I read seem to say you can do these things with a locked bootloader. When I look at guides they all seem to say first unlock bootloader if you do that you can't go to step 2.
In short can those of us on Verizon 7.1.2 devices with a locked bootloader get TWRP root and custom ROMs?
I'm willing to try things and don't expect handouts. I just need a little guidance on where to start or someone to say yup you're sol.
No

If you can't slide the OEM Unlock button in dev options you are done. You cannot root or flash TWRP or anything else. No, I do not believe there will be a method to unlock it in the future.
Thank you both for the answers. Confirmed what I thought but didn't want to believe.
You may be able to put a sim from another provider and see if it lets you slide the toggle

Nope.
This is a longshot as I have been out of the ROM game for a while... but would "upgrading" to the beta of Android O (soon to be 8.0) and then flashing a stock image back (un-enrolling) would that be able to drop the phone down to 7.1.0?
As I said...I may just be talking out my ass here.....

Can confirm this since the rollout OTA reverted me back to 7.1.2 with June's security.
I'm on 8.0 now, and OEM Unlock is still greyed out, even when I try to turn on with the sim card removed, and my "Android Security Patch Level" is May 05, 2017.... so still beyond what any of the bootloader unlocking methods have worked on....

You can sell the phone and then buy a Google version. That's the way to unlock your bootloader, the only way. And please don't let others tell you to say something is wrong with the device and return it if there is really nothing wrong. It's fraud and not well received on these forums. Your choices are to either sell it or live with it.
I am returning my Verizon phone as I just bought one right from Google... (anyone know where they ship the phones from?) Is there a special sequence in booting up for the first time to make sure the bootloader can be unlocked and VZW doesn't mess with it?

If you buy it from Google there are no issues. You can do whatever you want, put in any sim, flash any image.

Yup sell or live with it. We can only blame ourselves for not researching before we bought from Verizon.
Me I'm gonna live with it and sell when pixel 2 comes out most likely.

I wound up here in this thread after seeing promos pop up recently for discounts Verizon is offering on the Pixel and XL on the order of $269, as well as giving you a 100% rebate on a new Google Home as part of the package. I don't see a comparable promotion when buying directly from Google. I'm less than 2 years into our current phones, but wife and daughter are having problems with theirs, so I've been considering early replacements.
So - getting a 128GB XL via Verizon appears $269 cheaper than via Google, and I'd get a $129 rebate (6 weeks out?) if I purchase a new Google Home (already have 3 -- that's enough, but I guess I could sell the new one). Verizon's discount comes in the form of a monthly rebate, with the full credit being applied over 24 months. Not terrible, I guess, if you plan to stay with Verizon (I'm going to: I consult, and travel all over the country, and need the coverage), but annoying.
Then there's the whole issue of the locked bootloader. Sorry in advance for not being up to date on this and perhaps asking an obvious question: I know the boatloader issue would prevent rooting, and I imagine custom ROMs -- but do Verizon-branded Pixel's get all the same Android updates directly from Google as Pixels do that are unlocked, purchased directly from Google?
(please don't sneer when you see that I'm running a Droid Turbo 2! I had to replace 4 phones a year and a half ago, and the available promotions back then made it possible to get them each for $300 - a deal I couldn't afford to pass up at the time! )
Jon
Basically it comes down to this:
Verizon can screw you anyway they want. Nothing you can do. Deceptive advertising, No real service through 95% of the areas they say is great, locked bootloader on the "Google Phone" that everyone gets to have pure Android and not F%$ed with.
But, you try and do anything to it, OMG... might as well be in jail for killing someone.
When will we stop the power of these media companies?
Sorry, had to reply, I'm just so fed up with the adds, the false deals, the F%*king lies....

They didn't rip you off. You got the device you wanted. And you knowingly bought it from Verizon whom is known to lock down devices. They never sold it with the promises that you could unlock the bootloader and flash whatever you want. Don't get me wrong I hate vzw as much as the next guy. But they didn't use false advertising to sell this device. And if you want pure Android that's untouched then you should be buying directly from Google. Not from VERIZON.
To add to this, I have pretty much exhausted all methods, and it appears that if the phone came from Verizon, without a hack, there is no possible way to OEM Unlock! Here are the facts that I have;
1. I'm on firmware 7.1.2 - NJH47F - which is the non-Verizon firmware from the stock image download page
2. I have tried with both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM's
3. I chatted with Google Support, there is nothing they can do
4. I chatted with Verizon Tech support, there is nothing they can do (supposedly)
If it comes from Verizon, and you are past 7.1 then you cannot use dePixel8...
I can't believe there is no one willing to find even a temp Root exploit and find a way to mod the bootloader.img, even with a substantial bounty out there! I'd add $50 to it at this point!

Question Oneplus 9 pro device not play protect certified.

I am not oem unlocked, I haven't rooted, and I haven't modified any system files. Because of this I can't download hulu or update the preinstalled netflix. Any ideas?
Having a problem setting up GPay too because of this. I had an issue with the 8 Pro after an update and was instructed to clear the storage of Play Store and Play Services. That worked before but I am not having the same success this time around. Hopefully someone has a solution for us!
If you read the message boards on Oneplus, they are aware of the issue. They are making excuses saying since we are basically testing the phone for them as it has not been released yet, that this is OK. I preordered mine when the site opened, paid pull price for it, it shipped, and I am trying to use it. I feel this should be a fully functioning device not a testing product. Another bad look for Oneplus, my old favorite company.

Yeah, we're the guinea pigs. Just like in fallout: New Vegas.
I just encountered this as well. How frustrating. If OnePlus is going to start selling $1000+ flagship devices, they should work out of the box like every other $1000 flagship device. Let's hope there's a fix in the next couple of days.
So I was in contact with one of their engineers and probably one of the tech leads. They are now aware of the issue and I guess the only thing we can do now is wait. It seems it's completely random?
Just wait for the offical release on April 1st and see if the certification then gets active.
This isn't the first time this happend, when a product arrived early at the customers.
Same for me. No netfix no amazon Prime video , no Google Pay. Hopefully they take this seriously.

Question Where to buy unlocked PX6P?

I decided it was finally time to upgrade from my trusty PX2XL but the Google store is showing a delivery date of Jan 21 (almost 3 months out!) Best Buy local store would not even take a preorder! I use VZ as my carrier and they are showing Nov 11 as delivery but I don't want their usual bloatware or the typical lag time in updates.
Any suggestions? I am looking for the 256GB (any color) version.

Are you rooting, or will you eventually want to root/unlock the bootloader of your Pixel 6?
If your answer if YES, get on the Google wait list, buy direct from Google, and wait until January.
IF you get a VZW device or a Best Buy device you will not have the option to root/bootloader unlock.
Some devices are labeled as "carrier unlocked" but that only means you can use it on the carrier of your choice. It DOES NOT mean the bootloader can be unlocked or the device rooted.
tldr: if you plan to root/unlock the bootloader, buy direct from Google
Thanks. I probably will not want to root. In the past I rooted some of my phones to increase function, but I found I never needed to root the PX2XL (even though I could have.)
I have been reading old on-line articles that VZ doesn't add a lot of apps to the Google phones or change the interface (the way they and Samsung do with Samsung phones) so that's probably the way I will go. I like the Google interface mostly because I am familiar with where controls are.
Congrats on your upgrade... good choice! Cheers

That is true, and any of the VZ apps can be removed, or at the least disabled and hidden. Updates for Pixels come right away now from VZ because they don't add anything like Sammy does.
So the only issues you need to do sider really is root vs no root.

Question Does Google provide all updates to Pixel phones bought from Google?

In fairness, I "think" Google also do the updates for all the carrier variations as well so either way you're good and will get timely updates no matter which Pixel 6 Pro you get.

Not sure what was so funny about that. I currently have an unlocked Note 20 Ultra on T-Mobile and hadn't received any security updates from June through September while other carriers had apparently sent updates during that time. My understanding is that Google is more timely in sending out updates to phones they sell vs. carriers, but I just wanted to confirm that before buying since I've never owned a Google branded phone before.
All the updates come from google, and once in a while they will release slightly different versions for carriers around the world, I believe this is only the modem software, i know in the past that verizon also had some bootloader unlocking blocks as well which took longer for people to get root
Yep, Google is boss of the applesauce!

Its a Google made phone and a Google operating system so come on be serous who do you think do the updates, Santa's helpers?
Google releases the updates, even though there were - as far as I remember - two instances in the past when Google released a certain update for certain carriers slightly later than compared to the other ones, even though we are only talking about hours, couple days max.

Like I said, I've never owned a Google phone purchased directly from Google. My current phone is unlocked with Google's OS and the updates come from T-Mobile AFAIK, which has recently been slow in rolling out their updates, so yes, I wanted to be sure about that before I spend my hard earned $900. Don't know why you had to mock my question. Everyone else who responded here was helpful and kind.
