I tried going into "Media Device (MTP)" and then tried "Camera (PTP)". Neither seemed to work. Any ideas?
Specs: Mac OS X 10.7.4, 2008 pre-unibody Macbook Pro, unrooted T-mobile Galaxy S3 (white)
I tried for like 30 minutes to get my phone to work with a mac. Ended up using Airdroid and just transferring files over wifi.
I personally use wifi file transfer.

Thanks, Airdroid looks great. But for transferring large files, wi-fi is pretty painful. Just for the sake of brutal comparison, I found I was getting less than 1/10 the transfer speed (on video files 300-500mb) over wi-fi. Guess I'll have to get windows running on my mac again...unless there's a way to actually do file transfer over usb on my Mac..? (without cracking open my phone and removing the msd card)
I've run into the same issue myself. The phone is recognized, but nothing ever happens as far as the drives popping up.
Best workaround is to just use parallels if you have access to it...

Another option is to pull the SD card and plug that into your Mac. Luckily I have a PC as well so I don't have to come up with a workaround.
Hi there! I just bought the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I'm trying to connect the phone to my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OSX so I can transfer my files and such and also access the SD card. On my previous phone, (HTC Sensation 4G), all I had to do was just connect it to the usb cable and I'll see my phone accessible on finder. This is not my case for the Note 2 right now. I even installed Android File Transfer and it still doesn't work. Android File Transfer reports, "Could not connect to device. Try reconnecting or restarting the device". And of course I tried all of that. The only thing that works is the Kies software from Samsung but the software is incredibly slow. It is telling me that it will take 10 hours to transfer a 125MB file. It doesn't make any sense at all. I'm running a maxed out MacBook Pro Retina Display and I got a spankin new phone using it's provided usb cable and I tried others. My only option to transfer files fast to my SD card is by taking it out physically and connecting it to my SD Card adapter
Please help! Thanks in advance

I've always had trouble with Android File Transfer and all my Samsung phones on my MacBook Pro. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I avoid using it as much as possible now and just use AirDroid (which is slow and very similar to the Kies software) or I just remove the SD card and transfer files using an SD card adapter. I haven't found a fix or workaround to get it working properly.

Please, don't give me that "PC vs MAC" crap I have both PC and MAC and reasons why I use both operating systems. And from using Mac & PC for the past 7 years for the work that I do, Mac OS X has been by far the most reliable operating system that I've ever used. On top of that, I do a lot of radio mixing work and DJing and graphical designing and such and Mac is a must. I've had a Windows laptop before gave me nothing but issues whatsoever. I spend a lot of money buying expensive and top of the line Windows laptops and I always have to worry about maintaining the damn thing and went through a lot of stress because of it. So I'm happy with what I have. But on a side note, I find the iPhone to be the crappiest phone on the planet and I have a Dell XPS for gaming and as a multimedia box. So I hope that justifies that I'm not an apple fan boy.
I did install drivers and yes I had USB debug checked.
Anyways I found a solution for Mac users. I have VMware running Windows 7 & Windows 8. I have both operating systems connected and running seamlessly with the my Mac files so I'll be able to access and edit files that would be on my Mac on my virtual operating systems. And that was a fix for me without having to transfer any music, pictures, etc to a different PC and then transfer the files to my phone. Although it requires virtualization, it's the only thing that worked for me. I still wish there was better compatibility. I had no issues with my old HTC HD2 and HTC Sensation 4G. Samsung really got me angry about this one and their Kies software is complete crap.
Hello everyboddy,
I dont know the correct name of this tecnology, but i will be succinct. I use ES File Explorer(app) to see videos im my other tablets direct from my computer and this always works very smoth, fast and perfect with my other 3 tablets (2 Asus and 1 Acer) and one Smartphone(Sony). This week i bought a Note 8 wifi and nothing works, but only with Note 8. ES File Explorer cannot play (only access) PC stuff, I tried Samsung Link and it cannot do anything too. From my large number of attempts, what i realized is the wifi conection direct through Note 8 and PC works only for few seconds or kbits.
The same action works great with my other tablets. I only can understand there is something diferent with Note 8 that is not allowing me to conect direct through wifi.
The folders shared is protected with password, but I removed password and not work. Again, the exact same steps works fine with my other 4 Androids but not with Note 8.
Ps. Direct conection via wifi with pc have much higher transference rate, that why its best than any other.
Can someone help me? Why Note 8 is diferent? I can explain anything too. Thanks in advance,

Hello guys, I hope I can get some help over here.
When I received my galaxy tab pro 12.2, my galaxy tab pro 12.2 can't be connected to any usb device nor the pc's usb port. The last time I remember I plugged my tablet to the pc and transfered files to it was like 1 and a half months ago, then I updated my tablet, then last week (I had no need to connect my tablet to my pc until last week) I needed to transfer some files to my tablet but it didn't work, I don't get the typical sound Windows makes when you plug in a device, it doesn't appear on the device manager, I tried it on 3 different laptops and it still didnt work, on my tablet I only get a red cross on the battery sign at the top right of the screen, I tried to connect it also with an mlh adapter to the TV, and no success so far.
Has anybody else had that problem?
Anyone else having issues connecting Pixel XL to Mac via Android File Transfer? I had no issues with my Note 5, but the Pixel XL will not stay connected. It shows that its connecting and then I get the pop up that reads: "If your device's screen is locked, disconnect its USB cable, unlock your screen, and then reconnect the USB cable." My screen is unlocked and all...
I had issues with AFT as well. Resorted to just pushing my content via ADB. Alternatively, you could use AirDroid and just copy the content over via Wi-Fi.
same here with Google Pixel and Macbook Pro Retina late 2014
I know in the past if you've had Kies installed on your system AFT wouldn't work. Have to remove every trace of it to get AFT to connect.
Works fine for me. I selected "transfer files" from the usb options when it popped up and relaunched AFT
We are facing something similar with Google Pixel on Mac environment with Android File Transfer. Same rig used with same cables & Samsung Galaxy S7 is working perfect.
Getting the same thing when connecting my Pixel XL to my MacBook Pro running Sierra
Same issue with my Pixel and 2015 Retina Pro running El Capitan. Any solution?
Am I the only one without an issue? Have you selected the correct setting on the phone?
I'm using the Pixel XL with El Capitan on a 2015 Macbook Pro Retina and a Cable Matters brand cable
.any help here from anyone?
In case the default Android File Transfer tool can't help you transfer/move files between your Pixel and Mac, here are a few alternatives you should try, both wired and wirelessly.
https://usefulpcguide.com/17958/android-file-transfer/
Adt transfers files... But not all on mac...u won't be able to transfer mp3s,bin etc filetypes...
for what its worth, works fine for me.
Had the same issue, removed all Samsung Stuff and Kies, and then still didnt work, found this article and did what it said and works perfect, basically the USB cable plugged into computer is default to be used as charging, http://alvinalexander.com/android/a...app-cant-access-device-storage-solved-working
No, I already know that you need to change your phone into transfer file mode. I think most people know that, you have had to do it for quite sometime now... I can't even remember when you didn't have to do this step. For me and many others it is not working.
My Pixel wouldn't talk to my Mac for the first few days. After that for some reason AFT started working and all is good now. Hope you get it working.
same problem, constantly errors during the file transfer, the files that actually make it on to the phone the apps dont read.

I am also getting it with my mac air and pixel xl. My work around has been airdroid for now.
Ian B
The error I am getting is "Cannot replace file" "Cannot copy file"; I don't think this is same issue as what is reported here, so I opened a new thread. Thanks in advance for any insight!
Airdroid is garbage since the new 4.0 update.
