One of my co-workers just got an HTC Droid Incredible. I kind of talked up the 'corporate directory' feature that I have on my HTC Hero CDMA (Sprint) and we can't seem to get his phone to be able to search our corporate directory and show phone numbers. I'm not sure what the software difference is between these two phones really, they both are HTC and they both are SenseUI so the Incredible ought be capable of at least as much as my little Hero right?
Anyhow, here's the steps that work for me, if anyone can shed some light on how we can get this rolling on the incredible let me know!
A. Requires an Exchange/Activesync account setup within android's 'Accounts and sync' Dialog. (I choose to sync calendar and email only, not contacts).
B. Once syncing is working well, just go to the "People" App, press the Menu button, then pick "Corporate Directory"
C. Search the directory for an individual, and view their contact information, my Hero is able to show the telephone number in addition to the name and email address however his incredible only shows the e-mail. This is true whether he is syncing contacts with the phone or not. We are both hitting the same corporate servers with the same account settings but getting different results. If you think our IT department will be of any help, you would be mistaken as they are clueless.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance all for your input!
I can confirm that y Incredible ONLY shows name and email contact info in the Corporate Directory. This is a BIG pain for me coming from the Droid with the "Corporate Directory" app that showed all the info.
Also back in the days when I was running SenseUI on my G1, I remember the built-in directory showed phone numbers as well. I wonder why the version on the Incredible fails here.
I can pull name email and phone numbers on mine. I did apply the latest update, so that may have something to do with it.
I have received the latest update as well. But I only get names and emails when I search...weird.
Thanks for confirming that I'm not alone with the inconsistencies *bangs head against wall.
Anyone have any ideas for a solution to this?
^bump^
Wondering if anyone else can confirm/deny this as I'm trying to figure out what might be causing the problem... thanks for your help all!
I had a similiar problem. I installed Touchdown and now have full access to phone, email, and address. We are using an exchange 2003 server not sure if that has anything to do with it.
If root ever happens maybe this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=271115&d=1264178916
Touchdown looks interesting but $20 for a feature that ought to work is a bit odd doncha think? Same goes for rooting the device, I mean, HTC Sense running on Android 2.1 ought to be close enough right? Should I have my co-worker lodge a complaint with HTC and/or Verizon on this one? It seems a bit off to me that this works for me and not for him, even though we have 2 different phones...
same here...
I have the same issue.
Exchange 2003 Enterprise, Global Address Book lookup works on every other device we have here including other Android devices. But myself and another person here who have Incredibles cannot do Company Directory (GAL) lookup.
I am suspecting that this is an application layer issue. This is my one major complaint about Android phones. Every hardware vendor has their own code layer on top of the operating system, and they tend to mess things up like this. Why else would HTC phones not hand the phone number to you other than they just jacked up their implementation of Android....
I am running latest firmware (2.1-update1), and software 1.22.605.2
[edit] We can look up people in the company directory, but the results are name and email only. No address, phone number, etc.
This is fixed in the 2.2 leaks. So once it's final it should be sorted for everyone.
Do we konw if this is affecting everyone with an Incredible, or only people running a certain version of Exchange?
Email and phone number access is a priority to me. without it, not worth much.
The default app didn't work on the Dinc when I got it. It also has some other quirks related to searching etc...
Use Touchdown. Makes the phone complete.
Cost $20 but the phone is useless to me without so $20 is the same as a case, screen protector, or any other app I buy to get something I want.
Apparently the upcoming OTA will fix this issue, but there were more than that as an issue..
Gingerbread Corporate directory
Could someone say if corporate directory is implemented in Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 ?

I thought this was the biggest plus for WP7.
However the business side of me says smart move Microsoft. The user base of WP is too small to let this integration go unnoticed.

If it works like WL currently works, there's really no point. Sure, WL will do some stuff. But it just isn't as integrated as it could be to gain a lot of following.
I remember Hotmail from a long time ago...in the early 2000s...that I used extensively. Hotmail was the main online email account. I had a lot of info stored in it...lots of mails, contacts and all kinds of stuff...and MS claimed they were doing some kind of system maintenance and everything was lost. My whole account, all accumulated files, mails contacts...everything...was gone. I stopped using MS services from that point. I felt they were trying to manipulate people into paying for the non-free service.
I have a MS email account, but it isn't trusted with important stuff that I can't cope losing. It wasn't me only. A friend I know that used Hotmail suffered the same thing.
Seems to intergrate only your contacts, photos and messenger (no office, music and other things stored on skydrive), it also would be restricted to an app not the same as it being intergrated into the phone.

Nokia Maps has simply made their mobile maps site compatible with Android and iOS browsers, that is all. So yes, its not anything earth shattering, but Nokia Maps are simply now compatible with their browsers. We're expecting much deeper app-based and possibly even OS-level integration with Windows Phone, so it'll be a different experience with Windows Phone.
Also, the Windows Live integration on other platforms is only an API. Someone still has to build these apps for them, so they aren't available yet till someone makes an app, Microsoft is simply opening up Windows Live to be more accessible on other platforms. You still get top-notch integration with a Windows Phone 7 device.

there was no mention, or undertone of gmail in the entire thread, until you did. giving a persons personal experience isn't being a fanboy, or depreciating another service.
where did you pull that out of. anyway ?
hotmail account since 200x, but changed to omg-alternate-service and enjoy it.
I haven't really looked into it much but this sounds like a good idea. If the right tools/apps are developed, it can allow for a seamless experience no matter what devices you're using. Moving from one platform to another won't require a change of services. The SkyDrive stuff should be interesting, could allow it to become a better alternative to other cloud storage services.
Although all that could be completely wrong as I really didn't read the blog post. It just sounds like a good idea
I have had a Hotmail account since I beta tested the MSN Internet service in the mid 90s. My Hotmail is @msn.com. I have never had an issue with lost data that I didn't cause myself. Besides, now you can use the Outlook connector and store a copy of all your mail, contacts, and calendars locally.
I also find it rather foolish to dwell on the past. Things change so rapidly that holding a 10 year old grudge against one company could mean missing out on something really great. I have issues with Apple, Google, and Microsoft. I also have devices based on all three OSs. They all have good and bad points but I am willing to overlook the bad for the most part.
What I will not do is walk around with blinders on, thinking that any one of these systems are supremely better than the other. This simply isn't true. Nothing can be all things to all people.
I think the WLM integration is a positive change, and shows that Microsoft is learning from past mistakes.
One of these mistakes being the limitations on Zune pass availability. If they'd made Zune pass widespread I'm not sure people would care today about Spotify reaching the US.

If I noticed correctly, it's the exact same integration available on our WP7 IE9, isn't it? I tried accessing the Nokia Maps site with my Focus, and it seems to work fine. I have not tried with my Android yet, so don't know if there's a difference.

Android and iOS display a more 'mobile' optimized version of the site. I've only been able to view the full Nokia Maps website on Mango (which works just great as well).
I like Hotmail but honestly it's the only service I used which has constant problems with showing embedded pictures in emails. Refusing to show them actually. On Wp7 it happened in 30% of cases. Also problems with attachements. For me Hotmail is not reliable but I wonder if it has anything to do with my location - Poland.

That's my point/question, is WP losing the little exclusives it has?
Nokia is supposed to save WP with its map service, but Nokia is making its service for everyone.
WLM and Skydrive is going the same route.
Netflix is on all the major players.

Hey guys,
Just received my HTC 7 Pro today.
So far i am liking the device and the OS, but one thing is annoying me:
- The first Windows Live ID you configure will sync all your contacts etc.
All of the Windows live contacts are added to the phone's contact list (which is rediculous because i talk to people on Windows Live which i have never even met IRL.....).
Is there any way to exclude the contacts from my list and still keep the Windows Live ID account? (of course i do want to keep the marketplace features etc).
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847139
But that didn't really solve the problem either.
The deeper problem is that i have a Windows mobile 6 phone which i want to sync up with this one. But if all contacts would be in 1 list i would end up with around 300 contacts......
Have many people here bit the bullet and finetuned their real-life phone contact list with Windows Live / Facebook?
If so, what was the easiest way to sort it all out?
Thanks in advance.
PS.
I think if MS would have just used the contact groups/categories settings (which you can set in Windows live messenger) all would have been fine.
An option to hide or always 'fold' and show certain groups at the bottom would have solved this entire issue (which a lot of ppl seem to have).

I already used my Windows Live account to organize all my contacts and emails and such before I got my windows Phone, so this was not an issue for me.
Unfortunately you cannot disable contact sync'ing from Windows Live, but you can filter your contact list in the People hub. So you can hide them, but they'll still be sync'd in the background.
The only real workaround if you don't to hide your Windows Live contacts would be to actually go and organize your Windows Live contacts so that they are useful.... or delete them all. XD
Hmm, i might be able to live with the hide option but can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it a mango beta feature?

I am on Mango, but I'm pretty sure you could always filter out contacts since the beginning of Windows Phone. Though to be honest, i don't know if you could filter out Windows Live contacts before Mango.
Look in Settings > People, then there should be an option titled 'filter my contact list' or something similar. If its not there, then i guess its a Mango-only thing.
I had similar experience like this when I was using windows mobile and synced it with my hotmail... It synced all my email addresses I ever sent an email to, to my phonebook... I knew something like this could happen again with windows phone again... So I created a new live id just for my phone with no contacts and anything . I only use Google contacts and calendar and my live id is only for SkyDrive ...

So, how hard is it to obtain the latest Mango update?
Also, is there an easy way to import old text messages from WM 6 to WP7?

Yeah looks like this is a Mango only feature. That check mark for Facebook contacts that's currently in the NoDo release of Windows Phone 7 turns into a button that lets you filter contacts from multiple sources (Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live, etc.). So I guess you aren't gonna see that feature till Mango. Sorry.
Text messages cannot be imported to Windows Phone 7, and they cannot be exported from Windows Phone at all.
If you are a dev, you can get Mango very easily. But if you aren't, there are some methods around here on XDA you can use. Only problem it, when the real Mango comes out this fall, you have to go back to your current version of Windows Phone (which is gonna a couple months old backup by the time Mango comes out) before you can update to the final release of Mango. Just part of the fact that this is beta and really not meant for daily use (even though it far exceeds the quality of a typical beta product).
Thanks for the info man.
So, if i wait for mango i wouldnt have the roll-back issues, since right before the update the phones state will be backed up?
One more small question:
Does Windows Phone even read/handle SIM contacts (haven't had a SIM in the phone yet)?
If not i'll just update my Windows Live contact list till its current and start using it (untill Mango comes out and i can filter/hide the contacts i don't wish to see).

Yes, if you wait for the official release, then you will only need to update your phone once Mango officially comes out. All your settings will be retained and your phone will be backed up as part of the update process.
Windows Phone 7 can import your SIM contacts from the settings > people menu (you should see a button to import SIM contacts). But it does not display any contacts stored from your SIM. Once you import your SIM contacts, they get copied to your Windows Live account.
yup
import from sim option
Hmmm, i put in my SIM card etc. The network is working fine, but the option to "add SIM contacts" is greyed out and i can't select it.

If the option is greyed out, its because your SIM has no contacts to import. Or maybe they are in some foreign format from some unknown device? Not sure. I have some junk SIM contacts that T-Mobile put into my phone, and they import fine when I press the button.
You sure the SIM card has contacts?
Hey,
I am positive the SIM has contact information since my other phone (HTC Touch Pro / WM 6.1) recognises them.
There are around 60 contacts on there or so...

Not sure then. If the option is greyed out, it means Windows Phone does not see any contacts on the SIM card. In which case, I cannot help you with that. Maybe plug the SIM into a different non-WP7 device, and try to clear out the SIM and then re-copy your contacts to the SIM? Not sure if that'll help.
u can't prevent sync of contacts in the primary live account on pre mango wp7, this is why I created a new live account, imported my contacts to it and then added that new live id first when I got my windows phone so if u hadn't really done anything important id recommend performing a hard reset then re-sync with the new live account. or install the mango beta.
I think i might have a solution here:

It will mean i'll have to sort out my double contacts for a while (but mehhh...)
Good update.
IE9 : Great, except for removing the Quick Buttons for Tabs and Favorites
Bing : Vision and Audio Great. Local Scout I haven't tried.
Search Button : Removed Contextual Search Button - Terrible.
Messaging Hub : WLM and FB Chat are virtually useless. Messages come in way too late, if they even arrive at all. 90% of the time, they don't arrive for WLM. Haven't tested FB, but not expecting anything different there.
Visual Voicemail : for me (on T-Mobile), excellent.
Task Switching : Excellent
Email Client Changes : Excellent
Office Hub Changes : Excellent but it feels like no one tested this. You can't mvoe or delete files in your skydrive. When you back out of a folder you go straight to Office Hub instead of One Folder up. Things are alphabetized, but they don't put folders on top. It's all mixed in there. Just seems a bit messy. Otherwise, works as you'd generally think it's intended to work. Connections are very fast, not a lot of load time.
People Hub Changes : Generally great. Still doesn't update in the background, which makes the load times even more ridiculous if you have a lot of updates to load.
Me Hub Changes : Great. Live Tile works for Social Notifications.
*** WP7 Still Doesn't have a decent notification Cache, which is a bit terrible. Needed ASAP, IMO.
Calendar : Synching of To-Dos from Windows Live is a much welcome feature.
XBox Live looks better.
Picture Hub by default does a slideshow of all your pictures. Not a welcome'd default.
Podcast support in Zune HD Hub : Yay!
Biggest disappointment for me was the apparent uselessness of the WLM/Facebook chat in Messaging Hub. It was probably the single biggest feature I was waiting for when you assume obvious things like Browser, etc. would be brought up to par (which they have been, exceeding many expectations). That being said, it makes me feel less bad about spending $9.99 on Beejive for Android 4 days ago.
I can't believe Microsoft forced IM+ to butcher their IM app... for this... And the worst thing is this will not get fixed without a full FW update, since it's built into the OS.
yeah I miss the buttons for new tabs and favorites/history
with

I havent used FB chat on RTM yet, but with the Dev beta FB chat worked great and fast
If the FB works great and fast that's cool and all.
I just know the WLM is useless outside of knowing who's online or sending one message you don't expect a response to, because it barely recieves the replies and when it does it recieves them anywhere from 0.5-3 minutes after other WLM clients both on WP7 and other platforms.
It's actually worse than Messenger by Miyowa, which is a miracle...
not sure your issue with WLM. It works flawlessly for me (and in real time).
-R
The WLM / Facebook chat works allright for me. It takes a little longer for messages to reach, but I've had long, fast conversations with it and it has worked flawlessly.
I was testing it out earlier by chatting back and forth with a friend of mine. Worked just fine. As soon as I hit send, I saw it come up on the computer. When I saw his message hit the comp, it hit my phone. Last one was about 2 seconds behind.
Now, I was on wi-fi. So, performance may vary with connection speed. Will test on 3G tomorrow.
My FB chat is almost instant. (Sprint HTC Arrive)
Facebook almost instant. Wlm, no.
And sorry but I was trying it with two phones and a computer. Its not operator error.

WLM on the phone I think from my experience stops receiving messages if you respond elsewhere. Fo exmaple if a friend messages me, I get it simultaneously on the phone, web and desktop messenger. If I repsond on the phone I recieve all replies in realtime across all options. However if I reply on the desktop messenger or the web, I no longer recieve replies on the phone until I start responding on the phone. This works fine for me as it saves battery since im already responding elsewhere.
That's how it's intended to work. You're only supposed to receive responses on your phone to messages that were sent from your phone. With that being said, my WLM and Facebook are both instant. Not sure if it has to do with signal strength or what. I use both all day, and both never hiccup.
Haven't tried WLM yet, but FB chat is absolutely instant for me. I chatted with my wife basically in real time from my phone to her laptop.
They have removed timer from dropdown volume bar when tracks are played.
Call history still doesn't show call duration.. Only history which is useless.
I don't want that favorite window in pics hub. I don't have time to favorite pics.
Can't add more than 20 people to one group.

Had the same issue with fb chat over wifi. But it's real time with 3G.
Maybe it's my connection and it's unrelated.
I would give it an 8 out of 10, they lose points for the extra taps required for tabs and favourites in IE. Biggest joy for me though was being able to change the default search provider from the truly awful Yahoo that O2 UK had forced upon us in earlier version to Bing!!!
It would appear to me if you have a contact that is Facebook linked and WLM linked it will only allow you to message them on there Facebook, which i guess makes sense since most people like them bother.
Bad:
Twitter updates doesnt work even though my account has synched with the phone.
Windows Live posts/updates doesnt work either.
Hardware search-button is COMPLETELY useless. "We can't connect to search at the moment. Check mobile data or WiFi connection".. Yeah I have full data and WiFi connection thank you very ****ing much. This is bull****. I know Local Scout and Bing Maps isnt available here but at least give me a web search or send me to bing web page. Useless!
Since I activated my Swedish Live-ID Zune doesn't get artist-backgrounds or artist-info. I should have figured since Zune Service isnt available here in Sweden. Album art on lockscreen doesn't work either. (Seriously?! I understand why we cant buy music through the Zune Service yet here in Sweden but why the hell cant my albumart be displayed?)
Good:
I love the new Live Tiles for groups and Me-tile, love the notifications.
Love Threads in email-apps and the ability to link mailboxes.
Like the new fb-integration, so far I havent installed the fb-app, I still miss that we cant see who like a certain photo etc.

Wrong. WLM supports multiple points of presense.
Being logged in at multiple places doesn't matter. WLM has worked like this for over half a decade, now, if not longer.

The Phone Prioritizes FB > WLM > SMS/MMS
You can switch between the three manually, with the switch button on the bottom of the screen.
Too bad there are no delivery confirmations like BeejiveIM or S/D/R tags like Blackberry/Kik Messenger.
Would like the ability to send Video, Contact, and Location as well.
It's in the market, but it lists the Galaxy Nexus as incompatible. Prior reading has shown that this has been an on going issue on many devices (listing it as incompatible when in actuality, it would install fine and work fine). So I was wondering if anybody could post the APK file for the latest one (it's a free app, so I don't think this is against the rules, if it is please close the thread).
If this doesn't work, I was also wondering if anybody could make it compatible?
Please and thank you regardless!
Try Googling the APK. If its unavailable for the nexus to download then most of the people in this forum may not have access to it.
They also probably didn't update it for ICS which is why it probably shows incompatible. And it might be with the ICS drivers.

Email them, tell them to fix their app listing in the market so we can download it.

Funny, I didn't know what this BlueAnt app was until I bought one today and went looking for the App in the "Play Store". Did a google search and this thread popped up that I previously replied too. lol.
Seems to be working fine as far as the app downloaded manually from their website. Using it now, although it seems useless outside of "reading text messages".
But I'm having a problem with Name Announce. I went through a Jawbone which claimed to do it... and used several 3rd party apps to try to make it work, until I gave up and got this. I've synced my phonebook 3 times now but my work number, under "Corporate", but when I call it just says the number.
I use Email for exchange which syncs my work contacts into my gmail contacts. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I'm going to try to delete the work number and re-create it under my gmail listings and see if that works.
[UPDATE]
Funny that worked. It won't sync my work exchange contacts, thus just reads the number. I would have to manually delete all the exchange contacts and physically add them in under my personal Gmail contacts.
This would work, but part of using the exchange is that it automatically keeps everything up-to-date with new/old employees.
I guess its time to report a bug to BlueAnt. Personal name announce is a step in the right direction at least... and I moved my main corporate number over so at least it covers 90% of my inbound work calls. We work in the field so I do get lots of calls from cellphones, which in this case wouldn't name announce.
Just a heads up for XDA and Google reference.
