Trouble with FF & RW on Kodi after 51.1.6.3 update - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating my Fire TV with rbox's 51.1.6.3 rooted firmware I started to notice a problem in Kodi. When watching a video (via SMB or USB) I would skip around and it would eventually freeze, get pixelated and then struggle to catch up to where it should be. Most of the time it would get so bad that I'd have to exit the video and resume.
I was running Kodi 15.1 Isengard when I first noticed this, so I upgraded to 15.2 RC1 and the problem was still there. Downgraded to 15.0, same problem. Tried SPMC, the same. After eliminating Kodi as the issue I downgraded my Fire TV to rbox's rooted 51.1.6.2 and everything was fine again.
I'm curious to see if this anyone else has run into this problem. If you do reply, please say whether you're rooted or not.

Shoot! I did notice it's a lot more difficult to fast forward. I thought it happened to be the new files I was using or something with the file server.

Not just you I went through same steps as you. Have big issues with kodi since updating.

I Might have killed it, help

Please forgive me my English, I'm German.
I have installed the fire tv launcher mod on my rooted device, so every time I start my fire tv it boots up xbmc.
I wanted to try spmc because I had micro stuttering when watching an movie. So I hve uninstalled xbmc and installed spmc and didn't touch the launcher mod. Now every time I boot the device it tries to launch spmc but spmc seems to be broken it tells me obb not present yet, and when I click exit it just refreshes the screen and I'm in a loop I can't get out.
How can I solve this issue I don't want to loose root , please help me

can you use adb? try sideloading xbmc again and removing spmc.
As far as I know you will have to factory reset your box, as you won't be able to sideload anything as long as it is in the loop.

Newly rooted aftv having issues with kodi/xbmc

Last week I rooted, downgraded and am running rbox 51.1.4.0_514006420. Since I was starting from scratch I decided to try helix 14.0. After a day or 2 I began having problems opening add-ons. Big problems. Wouldn't open video or program or otherwise. The ui was fast and smooth and samba shares opened and played fine. So I install Gotham 13.2 which is running fine on my other aftv that is further away from router (both are on 5ghz)
But, after a day it was the same problem. Video add-ons wouldn't open. After much trial & error the only thing that worked was uninstalling and starting from scratch.
I use tvaddons with just genesis and few others.
The only difference between my new aftv and the old is the old one has rbox boot menu with latest firmware and new one has 51.1.4.0 updated.
Any theories?
updated new one is running

Need Netflix apk compatible with AFTV Gen 1 Please

Hi! I have an non-rooted first generation Fire TV, and a 3 weeks ago when I started it up, I painfully discovered that pretty much everything other than the main Amazon app were simply GONE. I haven't the faintest clue as to why this happened, but after several attempts to recover the missing apps, etc, I finally resorted to a factory reset. I then re-installed all my previous apps, but only one of them failed every time I ran it: Netflix for AFTV!
Netflix invariably now immediately reports the "UI-800-3" error and it never stops. I followed all the instructions about how to resolve this problem, but it never works. One possibly critical issue is that, after uninstalling Netflix, when I use the main Amazon interface to attempt to re-download it -- or ANY other app! -- any click on any app to download it is totally ignored! No click sound, no response whatsoever!
So I used the "Apk Extractor" app on the Netflix app on my Second Generation Fire TV, and then installed it on the first AFTV using ADBLink, which completed without error. From then on the "UI-800-3" error nightmare began.
So what I need is a Netflix for AFTV apk that's compatible with First Gen Fire TVs running FireOS v5.2.1.1 -- Does anyone have such?
I've seen recommendations to use the APK for Netflix for Android TV, but that hasn't worked out for me.
Kindly help me. Thanks!
I've tried using ADBLink to install the following Netflix apks: Netflix_3.3.5.apk and Netflix_4.0.5.apk
The latter reports that it is incompatible with first generation Fire TVs, so I uninstalled it.
The former tries to run, but again gets infinite "UI-800-3" errors.
So I removed all the DNS blocks that were preventing Amazon updates, and went ahead (very reluctantly) and upgraded to the latest system, v5.4.2 (if I'm recalling it correctly). But Netflix still refuses to run without eternal "UI-800-3" errors!
Furthermore, when I manually navigate around the main Fire TV app looking to download Netflix, it's nowhere to be found! Every other app shows up and allows downloading EXCEPT Netflix!
What the hell is going on?

Happened a while back. Netflix is only allowing the most recent version of their app to access their service. And those more recent versions only run on FIreOS 5. So you need to look thru this forum to the numerous ways to upgrade your FTV1 to FireOS 5. It's that simple.
I performed yet ANOTHER full reset and ANOTHER system update until no further updates were available, and finally, Netflix appeared and installed fine. Happily, it works fine!
I haven't submitted enough posts yet that I'm allowed to post external links, but I will be posting the working Netflix apk in another thread, here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/netflix-apk-compatible-aftv-gen-1-please-t3628174
I updated to the latest prerooted rom by rbox (jan 8 2018) on fire tv 1 and now can't find Netflix.
I had it before upgrading I was way back at os3, 51.1.1.0 or something and saw it under settings all apps, cleared it's cache and data, then uninstalled. Now when I search for netflix it doesn't find anything. Tried resyncing my purchased stuff under my account and still don't see it. Should I try and reflash the rom now that I've removed my old netflix apk?

An update: I got my answer in a similar board from @Sizzlechest :
"I just installed Netflix on my rooted Fire TV 1 with the latest OS and Netflix works fine.
EDIT: Here's a link to my Netflix APK: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjlFvM-kUCwh_VrvNbHA-1xdlIx0 "
Hi
Would you mind posting the netflix apk as I have the same issue
I just extracted this today: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjlFvM-kUCwhgP8UnX0ZLA7WOenuDw

Long DirecTV NOW Channel Loading After Recent Firmware Update.

Anyone having issues with DirecTV NOW channels taking 20+ Seconds to load? I'm using HideMyRoot method https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/directv-love-root-users-t3510461 to Hide SU since the app detects root and it worked flawless before but right after updating to the latest rbox release yesterday both my boxes now take long time to load channels!!
On rooted devices is there a better way other than HideMyRoot for me to try?
Thanks
I'm having this same issue, though it takes even longer to load / change channels on my rooted 1st Gen Fire TV using rbox's rom w/ hide my root. Has a solution been found? My bootloader is unlocked Can I install an unrooted rom with twrp without losing twrp and the ability to root in the future?
Thanks!
2.5.0 would start playing then stop for me. Blocked FTV App updates in settings, then installed the version inside of the TV apps zip in Themea and apps below. That version works fine.
I'm getting the same thing. Anyone fix the long load times?
Will test with new July 27, 2017 - 5.2.4.2_r2 release on my FTV1 and report back. Maybe this issue was also resolved!

[Fire TV Stick 4k] European HBO Go stopped to work

I use FTV4k in Poland. Using apk's I installed Amazon Prime Video (for whatever reason built-in APV doesn't work in Poland, but one from Android TV works fine); Netflix, Apple TV... and HBO Go (Nordic).
For the past year all worked extremely well and stable, but about 2 weeks ago HBO stopped to work. When I run it, it starts, there are a few revolutions of the circle, and then it jumps back to the main menu. I uninstalled the app, reinstalled, I was able to activate it just fine, and right after activation it dropped back to main menu.
I'm using newest version available, Google Play services are also installed in the newest version... I'm out of ideas what else could I try.
Anyone would care to help me?
I've the same problem
As I have noted in this post, the latest update for Fire Stick 4K causes the HBO GO app to crash. The only solution is to root and downgrade (or watch via the Kodi HBO GO addon).
Additionally, the same thing happened with Fire Stick 2nd Gen in the latest update.
HBO GO should issue a fix, but they're unlikely to do so because Fire Sticks aren't supported.
Hello
Could you give me hint How I need downgrade my FSTV4K?
I flashed pre-rooted 2.7.1 then during stick registering auto update install 2.7.3
I disabled OTA then again install 2.7.1.
After that install HBO and try. Not working despite downgrade, so this show that in system there some modified files left.
I suggest that I need backup of 2.7.1 with blocked OTA. Unfortnatly dont have it
I had the same issues. First I thought a full wipe of the system partition would be enough (and flashing the "stock" 2.7.1 via TWRP), but ultimately I had to do a factory reset on 2.7.1, block update servers on my router and skip the updates step in the setup wizard.
Apparently, to pass the update check, but prevent the download, you must block three of the four update servers:
Code:
amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
updates.amazon.com
If that doesn't get you past the update screen, you can use the Fire Stick remote Android app on a phone, connect to the stick as soon as it's visible on the local network, putting it to sleep via the app and waking it up via the remote. That did it for me.
There are other ways of passing the initial wizard, they involve modifying build.prop to enable ADB and pushing your adb keys, there was a post about it somewhere. To do this, you have to connect the stick directly (no OTG) and do the boot-fastboot.sh step from the rooting instructions.
Here's an old (apparently patched) version of the app intended for Sony Bravia TV's that works on both 2nd gen and 4K. The icon is purple for some reason and there's no shadow box behind the subtitles, but it works.
I see that the link has been posted in the request section, but I'll leave it here just in case.
