I use FTV4k in Poland. Using apk's I installed Amazon Prime Video (for whatever reason built-in APV doesn't work in Poland, but one from Android TV works fine); Netflix, Apple TV... and HBO Go (Nordic).
For the past year all worked extremely well and stable, but about 2 weeks ago HBO stopped to work. When I run it, it starts, there are a few revolutions of the circle, and then it jumps back to the main menu. I uninstalled the app, reinstalled, I was able to activate it just fine, and right after activation it dropped back to main menu.
I'm using newest version available, Google Play services are also installed in the newest version... I'm out of ideas what else could I try.
Anyone would care to help me?
I've the same problem
As I have noted in this post, the latest update for Fire Stick 4K causes the HBO GO app to crash. The only solution is to root and downgrade (or watch via the Kodi HBO GO addon).
Additionally, the same thing happened with Fire Stick 2nd Gen in the latest update.
HBO GO should issue a fix, but they're unlikely to do so because Fire Sticks aren't supported.
Hello
Could you give me hint How I need downgrade my FSTV4K?
I flashed pre-rooted 2.7.1 then during stick registering auto update install 2.7.3
I disabled OTA then again install 2.7.1.
After that install HBO and try. Not working despite downgrade, so this show that in system there some modified files left.
I suggest that I need backup of 2.7.1 with blocked OTA. Unfortnatly dont have it
I had the same issues. First I thought a full wipe of the system partition would be enough (and flashing the "stock" 2.7.1 via TWRP), but ultimately I had to do a factory reset on 2.7.1, block update servers on my router and skip the updates step in the setup wizard.
Apparently, to pass the update check, but prevent the download, you must block three of the four update servers:
Code:
amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
updates.amazon.com
If that doesn't get you past the update screen, you can use the Fire Stick remote Android app on a phone, connect to the stick as soon as it's visible on the local network, putting it to sleep via the app and waking it up via the remote. That did it for me.
There are other ways of passing the initial wizard, they involve modifying build.prop to enable ADB and pushing your adb keys, there was a post about it somewhere. To do this, you have to connect the stick directly (no OTG) and do the boot-fastboot.sh step from the rooting instructions.
Here's an old (apparently patched) version of the app intended for Sony Bravia TV's that works on both 2nd gen and 4K. The icon is purple for some reason and there's no shadow box behind the subtitles, but it works.
I see that the link has been posted in the request section, but I'll leave it here just in case.

Hey, I just want to say thank you for providing that information to the community! Very appreciated, I've been searching for a clue about this for weeks now and just found your post here, downloaded and installed the app on the 4K, hbogo work like a charm again! Thanks!
Thank you for the patched version.
At least at me, it works on FireTv, the only problem seems its that the movies with other audio than EN can't be hear.. no sound...

The app runs and can play shows, but the controls do not work properly. I cannot select the shows I want to watch. I cannot scroll down either unless I use a mouse. I'm still on the latest flashed firmware available for rooted Fire TVs. I can't upgrade without losing root. Has anyone else noticed this happening? Hulu is version 2.5a
Mine is doing the same thing... Basically can't scroll through the Hulu app (down or to the right?). If I push down it's definitely moving through the menus, but I cannot see what is highlighted. Just started a couple days ago.
I was on a previous version of Hulu so I updated it and rebooted, still wasn't working. Then I used Titanium Backup to clear data and rebooted, still not working.
Does appear to work with scrolling using a mouse like you mentioned.
On Rbox's latest rooted ROM (Android 4.2.2). I wonder if they just dropped support for this older ROM version.
Same thing here unfortunately.
Same thing here too
Option 1: Quick bypass the problem with a USB/Bluetooth Mouse or Mouse Toggle for Fire TV App or some other mouse app of your choice.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fluxii.android.mousetoggleforfiretv
Option 2: Get a hold of the prior FTV Hulu APK. There must be some folks here that block app updates on their FTV & can backup & post the prior version of Hulu for you guyz. Find out what version that would be & post the request in the FTV Apps section.
Either way, just patiently wait until TWRP, Boot Menu & PreRooted FireOS 5 ROM gets release in the next few weeks.
The USB mouse allows you to scroll down, but you still cannot select anything accurately. A workaround that I did was to get the 2.24.1 apk from my phone, sideload it, and operate it with a USB mouse. Of course, the quality is garbage and the remote is useless, but it kinda works. I can't get it to stream high quality video either.
Can you sideload the android TV version of Hulu?
Ludacrisvp: Yes. That's what I did , but you need a mouse to operate it and the quality is terrible.
Then you aren't using the android TV version of Hulu. That's the normal phone version.
After disabling the Amazon App Store I was able to install and run the android "Google TV" version of Hulu on my firetv it looks identical to the version that firetv uses.
I'm running version 1.3.0 of Hulu for android / Google TV on the firetv.
i can't get the android TV hulu plus app v1.3.0 to install. it says - install failed. looks like it requires lollipop at the minimum.
I assumed you had updated to a rooted version of fireOS 5
If we could do that, we wouldn't be having these problems.
I thought that like the fire stick there was a window of time where you could update and root with king root?
yes, but i think if you upgrade, your bootloader will be locked (even though you can get root).
Try this older version (2.1.a). Works perfect for me.
So far, this works!
I am having this problem too, has anyone found a solution yet?

Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
Hi! I have an non-rooted first generation Fire TV, and a 3 weeks ago when I started it up, I painfully discovered that pretty much everything other than the main Amazon app were simply GONE. I haven't the faintest clue as to why this happened, but after several attempts to recover the missing apps, etc, I finally resorted to a factory reset. I then re-installed all my previous apps, but only one of them failed every time I ran it: Netflix for AFTV!
Netflix invariably now immediately reports the "UI-800-3" error and it never stops. I followed all the instructions about how to resolve this problem, but it never works. One possibly critical issue is that, after uninstalling Netflix, when I use the main Amazon interface to attempt to re-download it -- or ANY other app! -- any click on any app to download it is totally ignored! No click sound, no response whatsoever!
So I used the "Apk Extractor" app on the Netflix app on my Second Generation Fire TV, and then installed it on the first AFTV using ADBLink, which completed without error. From then on the "UI-800-3" error nightmare began.
So what I need is a Netflix for AFTV apk that's compatible with First Gen Fire TVs running FireOS v5.2.1.1 -- Does anyone have such?
I've seen recommendations to use the APK for Netflix for Android TV, but that hasn't worked out for me.
Kindly help me. Thanks!
I've tried using ADBLink to install the following Netflix apks: Netflix_3.3.5.apk and Netflix_4.0.5.apk
The latter reports that it is incompatible with first generation Fire TVs, so I uninstalled it.
The former tries to run, but again gets infinite "UI-800-3" errors.
So I removed all the DNS blocks that were preventing Amazon updates, and went ahead (very reluctantly) and upgraded to the latest system, v5.4.2 (if I'm recalling it correctly). But Netflix still refuses to run without eternal "UI-800-3" errors!
Furthermore, when I manually navigate around the main Fire TV app looking to download Netflix, it's nowhere to be found! Every other app shows up and allows downloading EXCEPT Netflix!
What the hell is going on?

Happened a while back. Netflix is only allowing the most recent version of their app to access their service. And those more recent versions only run on FIreOS 5. So you need to look thru this forum to the numerous ways to upgrade your FTV1 to FireOS 5. It's that simple.
I performed yet ANOTHER full reset and ANOTHER system update until no further updates were available, and finally, Netflix appeared and installed fine. Happily, it works fine!
I haven't submitted enough posts yet that I'm allowed to post external links, but I will be posting the working Netflix apk in another thread, here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/netflix-apk-compatible-aftv-gen-1-please-t3628174
I updated to the latest prerooted rom by rbox (jan 8 2018) on fire tv 1 and now can't find Netflix.
I had it before upgrading I was way back at os3, 51.1.1.0 or something and saw it under settings all apps, cleared it's cache and data, then uninstalled. Now when I search for netflix it doesn't find anything. Tried resyncing my purchased stuff under my account and still don't see it. Should I try and reflash the rom now that I've removed my old netflix apk?

The latest FireTV Netflix is fully compatible with FTV1's as long as they are on FireOS 5. The latest FireOS 5 FW the better. If you are having a problem getting it to work Please be more specific on what FW you are on.
Saw your other post. Answered on there too. Bottom line: FireOS 5.
Thanks for your reply!
I performed a system update to my first-gen FireTV, and it is now running FireOS vv5.2.4.1
More to the point, I found a Netflix apk that is compatible with my first-gen Fire TV and finally works correctly! But it's a pretty old version, v2.3.10 build 268. Anything newer fails to run correctly, either refusing to run with "not compatible with your device" message, or constantly returning "UI-800-3" errors.
I very much wish to make it publicly available, but I'm too new to the forum to be allowed to post links. I'll rack up a few more posts and then try to post it later.
Here is the Gen-1 compatible Netflix for AFTV
Although this is rather old version of Netflix for the Fire TV, it's the most recent version that works correctly on my First Generation AFTV, which is running FireOS 5.2.4.1
No later version will work. Here it is...

If you are on FireOS 5.2.4.1 & you can't run the latest versions of Netflix then you have a problem. The only time I've had an issue like that was when I manually deleted the mbcache file on FireOS 3 due to the running out if space bug.
You might need to reconfigured your device thru TWRP. Are you Rooted or not?

I've went back and forth with Netflix and they suspect it's the old version of the application that is my issue. I am also running Fire OS 5.2.4.1 and every time i push a version of App Store or download, it's 2.3.10 build 268. I've done factory resets, you name it and it will ONLY download this exact version which according to Netflix is too old to work.
Can I install and run FireOS apks on Andriod box like s905x? I tried downloading and it gives UI-800-3 errors.
Is there something I have to change for it to work on other android boxes?
Update: This issue has now been confirmed solved for the Hulu, HBO Go, and HBO NOW app update error.
There are 2 ways to remedy the issue:
1. The prefered method is to update to the newest ROM. Rbox has issued an updated version of his ROM 5.2.4.2_r2. You can get a copy at the forum post here 5.2.4.1_r2. This updated version fixes playback errors in the new Hulu app as well as HBO (Go and Now) issues. Be sure to follow normal flashing instructions. Note - 5.2.4.2_r1 will NOT work for the new Hulu app (4.x.x).
2. If, for some reason, you do not want to flash an updated ROM. For the quick and dirty solution, post #12 gives instructions on correcting the problem. Note that this method only reverts to an older version of the app (3.x.x) and will not allow the new Hulu Live TV service functionality or the multiple accounts functionality. The same will need to be done for the HBO apk as well.
Original Post:
I'm surprised I'm the only one so far posting about this, but maybe I'm the only one experiencing problems.
The new HULU app updated automatically for me yesterday and immediately rendered playback impossible. Any show, movie, etc. comes back with a playback failure error code cdn-3-xxxxxxxx where the "x"s at the end change to different alpha numeric characters at any time. Here is what I have tried so far with NO POSITIVE RESULTS (in addition to speaking with HULU customer service support desk). I am on a rooted box using TWRP and rbox's system files (sloane).
Uninstalled and reinstalled app
Restarted AFTV
Unauthorized app via HULU website and re-authorized
Restarted router, cable modem, and AFTV (even a long term restart as requested by HULU tech support)
Updated AFTV software version (originally I was on 5.2.4.0 - then I updated to 5.2.4.2)
Wiped cache (Factory Reset)
As stated above, none of these worked.
HULU support gave me no way to uninstall the app and go back to an older (working) version, so I am currently stuck without a working version of HULU.
Here's what I'm interested in finding out from the community:
Has anyone experienced the same problems I have and then been able to get the app working correctly? If so, what method worked for you?
I can probably find an old version of the app online, however, I need to be able to block or turn off the update somehow... is there a method of turning the app update similar to how we stop the AFTV from updating automatically?
Any assistance would be appreciated. I'd really like the old version of the app back, since the newer version is crap.
This should be an old version of the apk you can try to sideload: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xw9rv2nxet2lchu/com.hulu.plus-FireTV-3.2.a.apk?dl=0
Thanks Sizzle, but I fear without a method of stopping the update I will shortly be left in a similar situation as I currently am in. Would you happen to know how to stop the automatic update of the hulu apk?

FireOS 5 UI in Settings/Applications/Appstore/ you can turn off the "Automatic Updates" for all apps. In the future you will get notifications about Updates. You will be able to ignore them or apply them.
Can you confirm that the apk I provided is the older version? I've already upgraded and everything works fine on my Fire TV 1.
Sizzle - I will have some time this afternoon or early evening to implement the rollback and turn off the updates that Y314K provided instructions to earlier. I will post back with results when complete.
Thank you again for the assist.

The wife is not happy with Hulu not working and honestly she needs a stock always working AFTV box.
Happy Wife Happy Life! After searching a few different ways I'm unable to find a stock nonrooted 5.2.4.2 zip.
Might anyone know where I can download to flash via TWRP?
I can report same issue, it also effects newer versions of HBO GO
I've got a rooted fully unlocked bootloader FireTV 1 and am using version 4.0.0.342 as reported by Titanium Backup with no problems. What specifically shouldn't I be able to do? My hulu account is ad-free. Perhaps you guys are running an adblocker and do not have an ad-free hulu subscription?
Here's the 4.0.0.342 apk from my Fire TV: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mgvqg1ugzhrjpr5/com.hulu.plus-FireTV-4.0.0.342.apk?dl=0

I am looking into this. If it is what I think, it would only be effecting the Fire TV 2 and has nothing to do with root.

Ok - Here are my findings. I attempted to install the 4.0.xxx version on both of my AFTV2 (sloane) boxes. Neither box would play videos (although the app booted and appeared to run correctly initially). Both are rooted with one running 5.2.4.2 and the other running 5.2.1.1.
After unsuccessful attempts of trying out the v4 app on both boxes, I uninstalled the apk, then rebooted.
Installed 3.2.a and success! Both units work as they should.
Although they are not the newest version of the app, I am able to play back video - so that is a plus
This version will not have the new Hulu Live or the separate account access to the app.
For anyone else experiencing this problem, here is the process I would recommend to solve this:
1. Download earlier version (3.2.a) of Hulu app (see Sizzlechest's link posted earlier)
2. Uninstall current non-working Hulu app.
3. Make sure your app automatic updates are set to OFF by going to Settings>Applications>Appstore>Automatic Updates - OFF
4. Reboot Device (may not be necessary, but what does it hurt?)
5. Connect to device via adb
6. Install Hulu 3.2.a.apk via command "adb install com.hulu.plus-FireTV2-3.2.a.apk" - keep in mind this only works if you did not rename the apk from Sizzlechest when you downloaded it.
7. Profit
You will need to re-logon to the Hulu app.
Thanks for everyone's help on this one! A real community effort.
Looking forward to rbox's discoveries on this subject. Thanks for all of your hard work on this and all of the other projects you've been a part of.

Sorry, forgot to address this Sizzle.
I DO have the add-free version of Hulu, but not the newer Hulu Live subscription. I am not running any adblocker software.
Okay. I have a theory on why both Hulu and HBO are not working. Like I said this is going to be a Fire TV 2 only thing. If someone is willing to try a fix, please PM me. Do note, this might brick the box. I really don't know. And if it bricks, it'll be super dead. But, there is a slim chance the unbrick program could revive it, so I would prefer someone who has a box that was rooted with my preloader instructions and not KingoRoot. But, if you don't care, and you didn't use the preloader instructions, and want to try anyway, there definitely won't be any way to recover it. I will say this again. If you try this fix, there is a chance it might brick the box. Just want to make that clear.
Is there a specific apk version (link) for hbo now that people have had success installing?

Sorry Duck, but I am not aware of the HBO Now app - I use Prime channels for my HBO subscription.
In the case of the Hulu app, I had to revert to the previous whole number version of app in order for it to work - V4.x.x.xxx --> V3.x.xxx
My suggestion is to just try some different versions in a fairly methodical way and see what works. It's fairly easy to install and uninstall via adb and only takes a few min.
Also, be sure to turn off automatic updating in the Appstore (different than updates for system), otherwise your app will just update itself again to the newer version and you'll be stuck.
Hopefully rbox will use his magical powers and get us an answer to all of our troubles soon. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the reply @chadster1976. Was able to get things to work by downloading an earlier version of HBO Now from the same place you guys suggested. Thanks again! Was able to watch GOT lastnight again on my main TV.

I'm willing to test as I have spare AFTV devices just in case. Just sent you a PM @rbox
So I downloaded @rbox 5.2.4.2 deleted the SU directory inside the zip as instructed, then wiped everything possible 3x upon which I cleanly reinstalled 5.2.4.2 and Hulu still does not work on my non rooted AFTV 2 Box. Direct TV Now works perfectly without installing HideMyRoot so maybe this is truly just a Hulu issue on AFTV 2 Boxes. @AFTVnews.com

Not sure Tekno. I was on chat 3 separate occasions with the Hulu tech support team and they claimed this had only been a rare occurrence... Take that however you want to... The extent of their assistance was resetting everything - including router, modem, etc. Then the final thing they suggested was a factory reset. I eventually did try that after updating to the latest firmware version from rbox. Needless to say that did not work. They couldn't help me with downgrading to the previous working version of the app, which is why I started this thread here on XDA.
Hello,
I have a Fire TV Stick 4K on Fire OS 6.8.2.1. Updates are blocked via debloat tool and the update URLs in my AdGuard.
Since today the Prime Video App refuses to start, it says that it requires an update, error code 8056. This brings me to the general update option that would update the complete OS, which of course is not possible (and not wanted), as it is blocked.
My Prime Video App has version 33.1543-L.
Here in the forums I could just find way older versions of it. But I also did not see someone else with my issue.
Is Amazon blocking Prime Video without a recent OS version or is there a different way to fix that?
I have already deleted the app cache and data and rebooted the device, no change.
I would make sure the three OTA files are still disabled, then undo the URLs you blocked in AdGuard.
That should allow the prime video app to update w/o updating the OS.
Disabling AdGuard while still having the OTA files disabled still leads to an update error (of updating the system software, that is what is written there). Would the fire tv update function really only update apps, without the OS itself?!
I have updated apps without any problems with just the three OTA files disabled, and the OS has not updated either.
So it sounds like something else you disabled is preventing you from updating the app - did you disable any other "files" in the debloater?

You can't browse for updates while having the OTA disabled... You may sideload the updated apk with adb.

Do others have a higher version number of the prime video app? Any idea where I could get that? I just jound a version 27, while I am already on 33. If Amazon raised the minimum required version, I would also expect that there are more people with the same issue, as a lot stayed at the lower version numbers of fire OS.
Update:
I saw that here not only fire os but also the app updates are available:

This is coming from this thread, which first looked like its only focussing on the fire os:

I downloaded prime video version 39 and could install that via adb link, after that prime video starts again without an error!
So problem solved, hope that this will help others as well (this was the first time I ever experienced this on a fire tv).
I have the same issue, but the problem for me is the version already on the stick is the latest on that github page. (v44.2048)
I also have the gen 3 not 4k stick so not sure if those APK's will work on the gen 3.

Turns out the latest version is 47.1102L so the page is now out of date.
I fixed it by going to the amazon website and pushing the app to the stick which worked.
Although thats concerning because if they can push apps with the dns blocked on the router then it also means they can push OS updates.
