Latest LG G3 software update issues - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a notification for a software update yesterday. After downloading and installing 2/2, the phone moved on to the usual optimising apps stage that happens after an update. It stuck at 174/199 or thereabouts, and it has been frozen at that overnight.
It took a while to get it to restart this morning, and when it did it carried on optimising 17/19. Since then, many Apps crash out on their logo splash page, or do not load at all, and The Play Store is unavailable.
I probably need a factory reset to sort it out, but backup programs will not run.
What an absolute pain. Seems a number of people have the same issue

I'm wondering whether this is the cause of the extremely sporadic data connectivity I'm getting. Until I applied this latest update I had no problems to speak of. Now I'm rarely getting a data connection, even with strong signal. Google Authenticator crashes. I'm roaming in California using a UK Three SIM, so I ought to be "feeling at home".

Problems with Starburst ROM

I was using the Lite 1.3.3.3 for about a month without any problems, then the other morning I turned off my phone and pulled my SD card to copy some music onto it using a USB MicroSD adaptor. This is a usual activity for me.
When I popped the card back in the phone and rebooted, Swiftkey, Uninstaller and ROM Manager force closed upon boot. I had to uninstall Swiftkey to stop the messages showing, neither of the other two apps were responding, upon further inspection, more apps were doing this.
Previous to this, the Market stopped downloading apps, GoogleTalk constantly give me errors about being able to authenticate and I could no longer store contacts to my google account. I figured there was a problem with Google's servers, but this continued for a week.
So, I installed the 1.4.1.0 version, figuring it was newer and probably fixed whatever was wrong with the Lite version. Today, the same thing happened to me, only this time, more apps died on me, many of them resetting their data. Rather frustrating. Also, ROM Manager, some time ago, stopped finishing the "Fix Permissions" process. It'd hang at random points, on random apps, each time I restarted it, it'd get a little closer. However, restarting the process 100-some times wasn't feasable.
I now have 1.3.3.3 installed, with Data2EXT, fresh. However, I'm going to download and install 1.4.1.1 classic, and strip out all the rubbish that comes with it (why the dev doesn't update their Lite version, I don't know, none of the preinstalled apps show in the market available to be updated. Useless!)
It can also take an extremely long time to show the screen when I push the power button
Here's the important bit:
This is the best ROM I've used so far, in that it took a month before it force closed into unusability. However, is this user error? Am I at fault here? I never did a hot reboot, as I know this isn't good for data2EXT installs. What gives?
And the 1.4.1.1 version does NOT install Data2EXT for you. So there is no "intelligent Data2EXT" installation with that version. What a massive waste of my time.

[Q] After updating to 2.3.4 cellphone keeps donwloading updated version of an app

After updating to 2.3.4 cellphone keeps donwloading updated version of an app (in this case Angry Birds Season) multiple times. I already deleted the app, unnistalled but the only way to stop it seems to be deactivating any type of internet connection (wifi/3g)
Any way to fix it?
try unchecking 'automatically update' in the market page of that app
Happened to me. I uninstall update of market app. Then run market to see
Got a Headache? It's all in your Head.
I have to wait for it to finish downloading the multiple copies. It stopped after that. However, I want the app, and hoping the issue stopped I tried to install it again, but it started all over.
About the market update, the option "automatically update" is only turned on for foursquare (which I have to test again yet, was not working since last try).
Sometimes this happen due to the internet connection having intermittenly disturbance while updating which resulting having your device rescan and reupdating again and again. Or it can be also from human error as you press update button multiple times which triggered to a multiple downloads.
The last one comes from the app(Market) itself. You may try uninstalling the Market app and reinstalling it again to create new database and cache from a fresh installed.
Hi thanks!
I replaced the old market by the 3.1.3. Seems to be a bit heavier though.
I also noticed that the internet connection got a bit slower than the usual after upgrading. There is any optimisation to be done?
It also happened with me and I think it's mainly because of internet connection and pressing update multiple times just update it smoothly it will not download multiple time. It's really pain to download one update multiple time
Next time just press the update once and it will eventually updating, sometimes it take a little bit longer to start the update process so you got to be patient on this.
Internet connection normally base on your service provider(Telco) and distant between you and the transmitting tower. To optimise it, you better get the APN update direct from your service provider and stay within the coverage area..
just one thing.
Few apps internet and gps related are not working as it should, like foursquare.
How do I know if I made a full upgrade or not? Because I might want go back to 2.2.1

No Access to Google Search, Play Store over LTE

Hey all,
I finally made the jump to the One M8 from my iPhone a few weeks ago, and I quickly unlocked, S-OFF'd, rooted, and flashed MaximusHD. I had to switch back to my iPhone for a couple of weeks for work reasons, and yesterday decided to switch back to the One. When I booted it up, I saw that an OTA was available for MaximusHD 7.1, so I installed it and realized that I was missing LTE and stuck on HSPA. A quick phone call to AT&T resolved my issue when I realized that it was simply a provisioning problem (since the 4S I had been using is LTE-less). Now for the strange part - after being on WiFi all day at home, I come to work and try to fire up the Google search app (while connected to LTE), no dice. The app throws a "Can't reach Google at the moment." So I fire up Chrome, and try google.com - after a painstaking few seconds, I get "Timed out". I navigated to a different site (CNN), just to test connectivity and voila! - the page loads immediately. I retried google.com, and the site still times out. Also, the Play Store has no connectivity over LTE, also throwing "Connection timed out." All other apps (Instagram, Speedtest, even GMaps/G-mail) work while on LTE. If I force the phone to drop to HSPA (by choosing GSM/WCDMA only in Mobile Network settings), then magically all the forementioned apps and google.com work properly. It seems that all the Google services are "blocked" while connected to LTE. So far I've tried:
- Airplane mode on/off
- Rebooting
- Clearing defaults and wiping all the application caches (as well as the Play frameworks)
- Factory resetting/Wipe Cache
- Flashing a different ROM (VenomOne) and starting fresh
- Confirmed that APN settings are correct (other sites other than google.com work fine)
- Deauthorized my phone in my Google account settings
- Created a new Google account
None of these worked. I also tethered my MacBook to the phone, and was able to access google.com via Safari perfectly fine while the phone was sharing it's LTE connection. I installed Firefox on the phone, and strangely google.com works fine as well. It seems as though any Google services that rely on my login fail to work on LTE, but work perfectly fine over HSPA. Google searches work, the GSearch app works fine, and the Play store loads immediately. Switch back to LTE, all other apps and sites load properly, Google services fail again (now including Sync).
Sorry for the lengthy post guys, but I'm out of ideas. I'm going to (unfortunately) flash the phone back to stock and see if that works, and if it doesn't, I'll drop by the AT&T store tomorrow and see if a new device makes a difference. It doesn't quite add up, unless its a weird provisioning problem. Hopefully you guys can help or might have an idea? Thanks!
Hey man, I'm jumping on board with you on this issue. I've been battling this same exact issue for the last month or so. I've literally tried everything in the book and can't seem to figure it out. Not hijacking your thread, but I was going to create a thread here as well since I'm out of ideas. Here's my experience, hopefully we can knock something out here to fix this plague of a problem.
I've flashed multiple different versions of firmware, multiple different ROMs, cleared every kind of cache you could imagine, etc. Often I can get the issue to disappear for a short while, but it always returns.
I did restore the phone to stock using the factory RUU. That actually did work for a short period of time, but then I started receiving a message that said "Restricted Access Changed - Data Service is Blocked".
That message led me to this site: Nexus 5 Restricted Access Changed Issue - Solved
After being 100% stock, I uninstalled updates for Google Play Services. That worked for 3 days. After 3 days, I connected to wifi for the first time, after I turned wifi off - no connection to the Play Store again.
That was last night. Flashed newest firmware (2.22.401.5) and Insert Coin 4.0.9 this morning... still no good. Google Search and the Play Store time out with "No Connection" messages.
The one thing I believe differs from me to you, is that HSPA+ (GSM/WCDMA) does not work either. I believe you said that worked for you?
Certain little things seem to randomly make it work for a short period of time. Once I flashed cache/dalvik and did a fastboot erase cache - magically worked after that. Though, that only lasted for a day or two.
Think I'm going to jump on Support Chat with AT&T to see if they can provide any help, though I doubt it. I'll update here as I go along so hopefully we can get this figured out. Sorry for the lengthy response.
Same issue, also from CT
Just responding to the OP, I am having the EXACT same issue as you with my Google Services not always connecting while I am on LTE. I wonder if it's a geographic thing as I am in Southeast CT Groton to be exactly although I have also had the same issues in Niantic at work. I also have AT&T service but my device is a HTC One M8 Developer edition. I sometimes can connect to Google services over LTE but it seems to be hit or miss. Services that I have been having trouble with include gouge search accessed through chrome, google now/voice search, Play store and Wallet. I have not had any issues streaming music over Google Play music, even when my other services were not functional over LTE for some reason. I have tried all the suggested trouble shooting steps such as uninstalling Google updates, clearing google play services cache and app data, verifying my date and time setting, etc. I even unlocked and rooted just to delete the hosts.txt file as was suggested in the system/etc folder. So far nothing I have done has completely fixed my LTE issue, it was the exact same behavior on kk 4.4.3 and after I applied the kk 4.4.4 OTA update. I have not tried S-off or installing any custom ROMs. As I type this my Google services ARE working over LTE but I'm not expecting that to remain constant based on past experiences.

Did you contacted your carrier about this LTE and Google services issues? Cause I can use all Google services on LTE. Its kinda a bummer that you cant use something that you are paying for tho.
Poslano z mojega HTC One_M8 z uporabo Tapatalk
This guy has the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/lte-connection-issues-3-28-401-7-t2913168
He thought it was caused by flashing firmware. But based on your experience, it might just be a carrier issue.

[Q] Google Services using massive data constantly... what's going on here?

Ever since upgrading to Lollipop (5.0.1), my G3 has been consuming vast quantities of mobile data (much more than it does on Wi-Fi) , at a rate that is threatening even my 1GB monthly cap. I have never had this issue with this phone before upgrading, nor with any other phone I have owned, and I can't find any resources about it online. It appears to use small amounts of data (a few KB) continuously throughout the day, not in large chunks, so it is not Google trying and failing to download a software update like come CM users have seen.
I uninstalled every app that I did not have before the Lollipop upgrade, as well as any potentially troublesome apps, to no avail. Then I tried booting into safe mode, removing all my synced accounts except the main Google one, turning off sync for that account, turning off data backup, clearing the caches of all my apps, and not opening any non-stock apps for a day. Even with all that, it still ran through a few megs in just an afternoon. Turning everything back on and setting accounts back up did not increase or decrease the data consumption. Restricting its background data does stop it from using mobile data, but it also seriously cripples my device (Play store stops working, sync stops working, calendar etc. stop working...)
I attached screenshots that show its data usage. It decreased considerably around June 9th because I finally got Wi-Fi in my room. But even still, it continues to eat my data for no apparent reason. I REALLY want to avoid a factory reset (and I doubt it would help anyway, since it was factory reset for the upgrade, and running everything completely stock doesn't help).
Can anyone give me some ideas here?
Info about the phone:
Model: LG-D851 (T-Mobile)
Android version: 5.0.1 (stock, rooted)
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Software version: D85120b
Network: olleh (South Korea, the same SIM card I used with the phone before the upgrade)
Google Play Services version: 7.5.71 (1955121-430)
Google Services Framework/Google Account Manager versions: 5.0.1-1602158
Hey, try limiting background data. There should be a tick above the usage graph.
Also many people have problems after upgrading to lollipop, including me, you should try factory reset. I had like half of my apps broken and frequent crashes after upgrading.

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply. I'm trying to avoid restricting background data because I often have to go long stretches without Wi-Fi, and a lot of my apps stop working properly if background data is restricted. And I don't want to factory reset because it takes me days to set my phone back up to how it was.

[IMPORTANT] Major security concern with oreo

There is a weird problem that I have been facing after updating to official OxygenOS vs5.0.1 from Nougat through OTA. The phone seems to access Internet by itself.
Before and after every update, I clean Cache for proper installation. However it came to me by surprise when I saw page long Privacy Agreement which says it will access everything in my phone even if you are not part of " User experience program" whether you keep it ON or OFF.
So now the problem is.. every night when i turn off Data and WiFi, the phone seems to somehow access Internet as I see new mails, FB updates, New Whatsapp msgs in Notification every morning. And Toggle and WiFi still OFFFFF !!! After checking the time, updates only between 5AM to 7AM. The phone still access Internet between these hours and this is happening the day I installed OTA 5.0.1 and Agreement which is mandatory to accept. The " User Experience Program" is turned OFF. After this Incident, I have restricted background data for most of the system and user apps. No Special Data access to any application. Still the problem is same. Only the day when I woke up early the other day to check if Data is ON again at 5-6AM. It wasnt and no access that day but other days its same.
Is anyone else experiencing the same?? My phone is not rooted and no bootloader unlocked..!!
This is a serious matter for all Oneplus users as we have bank and personal details in phone. Let me know if anyone else facing this issue.
This only effect those on oem software which I figured most would avoid by now with all the times they have been caught.
