Hi I'm currently running the CM 12.1 ROM and I have noted a few people suggest parking a couple of cpu cores to help battery life. The feedback is that this does in fact improve battery life without any performance issues.
My question is how do you park cores on the zenfone 2 is there an app or some other way to do this.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't used CM on the ZenFone, but you could try using kernel auditor for tweaking various things.

no....underclock means to lower the clockspeed (from 1ghz to 900 mhz fkr example) and undervolt means to lower the voltage being delivered to the cpu at a given clockspeed.....you as the user can freely undervolt using setcpu but the kernel chef is the only one who can undervolt a kernel

Thanks!
Ok, 4 questions:
1)Does undervolting slightly affect the performance of the phone? If so, in what way?
2) Which kernel is better on the battery? Kingclick, our hydra kernel?
3) does it make sense to overclock slightly on an undervolted kernel.
4) which roms are most compatible with each kernel if there is a compatibility issue?

1. undervolting improves battery
2. hydra is better on principle
3. overclocking is never necessary....overclocking isnt needed at 1ghz, but if you insist in overclock, 1.113 ghz is good....or 1.15 but i wouldnylt reccommend 1.2
4. all sense roms work with custom kernels

So if I have a stock rooted 2.2 Incredible and just want to save some battery, can I just drop a kernel in place and it will "just work" ? I have SetCPU lowering the clock when screen is off, would this be better?
thanks!

If I was you, I would flash your kernel of choice (mine is hydra ssuv v0.5) and definitely lower the screen off profile....and use a good Rom too...speed isn't always in the kernel you use, its in the Rom too...that's why I don't overlook....
And also, unpack and quadrant are just bragging rites, nothing more nothing less

WOW...just wow
bro, could you please not speak derogatorily of others?
What's, in your opinion, the best stock based ICS kernel around and which are your favorite settings for either lag free and battery durability?
I'm quite "new" in the kernel world so I'm still researching for the best combinations.
Im currently with Arcknight 3.5.1 on 245/1401, smartass2 and sio and I can get around 24h with 20% remaining with normal usage. I read people saying that they can get 2/3 days so I'm curious in which settings they can get that.

Find out yourself! In the end its always the persons 'own' preferential choice.
Pro TIP: Best battery life is ASK (advanced stock kernel).

I'm using it atm, it's great even with ondemand/deadline/249 ~ 1024

Thank you.
And i need some clue for how much nexus can handle UV, post your settings too.
Mod, i dont see any similar thread here and if this is against the rules feel free to close this
Thanks

Using trinity atm.
This is one of the smoothest kernels in my oppinion.
And the vibration control is a must for me
I get around 3h of screen on time on normal use
And welcome to the galaxy nexus forums

From what I know no extra apps needed, and I don't think it adds say an hour of battery life but it does add maybe 10 - 20 minutes. Obviously I can't run the exact same battery tests over but it does feel like my battery lasts longer. Could just be placebo though

Currently trying out the Jame Bond Kernel. The attractive part of it is that it's already undervolted and so far seems stable. Feels like i get a bit of extra time, but it isn't a major difference.
JameBond 3.4 and Franco milestone 6 are the kernels I use..both give great battery but JameBond 3.4 is pretty stock and Franco has a bunch more features..

At the risk of being chucked of the edge of the earth...
Why are the so many different kernels I do understand as a Linux novice that there are a million +1 features in the kernel but surely all the different n7100 kernels do the same thing eventually?
Please be patient with me I am just trying to understand why so many and not one SUPER kernel where the features are turned of and on at the users will...
p.s. using the red pill kernel and that seems brilliant..

Basically yes, but every kernel is made by different individuals who have different philosophies. And some build from samsung sources, some build from cm or other sources. Some kernels might give better performance for some, but suffer in battery usage for others. And some kernels hace unique features. For example, I use neak mainly because of its superior audio options. Others will use perseus because they find the way cpu is handled gives better battery life.
Cpu options, oc and undervolt is for the most part the same in all kernels.

Now that's the right question buddy, one of the best things is Finding a really good kernel for your device, if NOT you can download Kernel Auditor and control how your CPU/Ram Management/Entropies... You can start by over clocking it up to 1700MHz

Manual tweaks are kinda tricky to go with.. They could make your device real fast or make it worse... I'd recommend starting with the ones already there for a starter
