charging problems - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Recently my s4 hasn't been charging correctly. It's been charging really slow and the phone heats up a lot on the top left area when charging. It used to not do this before. I downloaded Ampere to check the charging rate and it's 300mA. I've tried different USB cables, ac connectors, and outlets and they all give 1200mA. I've also tried different USB on the ac connector that came with my s4 and it gives 1200mA only when I try to use the S4 cable it shows 300mA. Is the cable the problem or is it the battery? Could someone please use Ampere and see the rate you get with the USB cable and ac connector that came with the S4?

[Q] Slow USB Charging in AC outlet

Whenever I plug my Desire in an AC outlet, it charges ridiculously slow. I check the battery status and it says "Charging (USB)" (not AC) and USB Debugging pops up. My wall adapter says it has an output of 1000ma. Is the chord bottle-necking the charging speed or is it the adapter? I am using the chord that came with my phone but I bought a new adapter to fit my countries outlets.
Same problem. I would like a resolution to this also.
There is allready a thread concerning this issue and it has the solution your looking for.

I have looked on the forums and it should seem like I should get regular AC charging on my Desire. I have a 1000mah charger and I am using the USB cable that came with my phone. I am wondering why I do not. I looked at my USB (fat side) pins and they are shortened. I have included an image of my charger.
if the adaptor says it supports iPhone etc then that is why the USB debugging symbol is coming up.
because that symbol is up it will only charge at 500mA max (the phone thinks it is in a PC, it doesn't wnat toburn out the USB port).
if it is a cheap adaptor, the voltage regulator may be limited to 100mA. thats what happened with me.
either way, in my eyes you have 3 choices.
1. buy a new adaptor
2. put a new voltage regulator in the adaptor (a friend did this for me)
3. use a converter so the adaptor you have will work in your wall.

O I didn't realize if it was branded to work with iPhone it would charge slowly. Thank you for your help. Next time I'll watch out for a "Works for the iPhoney."
Bump
I would like to know how it ended?
I have a same problem, the only difference is that i have stock HTC AC charger with separate USB cable (stock too). When plugged to AC it shows "charging(USB)". Tried different cables, same result. Tried two different AC adapters, but both were from NOKIA, same result...
This might help your slow charging issue
If the wall charger is causing your phone to charge in a USB state, the charge time will be very long compared to a normal AC charging state which I'm sure you are aware of. A cable called QuickCharge might help. It will enhance USB charging to AC charging. You can find it on Amazon by searching for 'QuickCharge'. It's the 2nd or 3rd item down.

What USB cable to charge GN?

Guys, I have my normal charger at home which works fine. Here at work I have a fairly new (but cheap) USB cable. At work the charge never goes up, it stays at the same percentage all day. It charged my Optimus 3D fine.
If I swap it for a colleagues USB cable (came with his Windows Phone) it charges fine (same USB port or USB ac adapter).
Is there a certain type of Micro USB cable I should be looking for that's not stupidly priced? (in the UK)
Coming from an Iphone I didn't have any spare micro USB cables so I went to a computer store and bought 3 store brand (cheap) microUSB cables and they all work fine.
The only thing to take note of is some wall charges are seen by the phone as "USB" and not "AC Charger" and thus will only pull in 500mah which is pretty slow. If you install battery monitor widget by 3C it will tell you the amperage coming in and if the phone sees your connection as USB or AC.
I discovered my 1amp apple USB brick does not charge higher than 500mah only my samsung one does that came with the phone.

yeah, but if I use the same USB port or the same AC plug I don't understand why 1 cable will charge fine, the other gives just enough to keep it at the same percentage all day?

I'm Having Charging Issues - Are All Micro USB Cables Created Equally?

I bought an OEM Samsung wall charger that charges at 1 Ampere. I started to charge my Zerolemon battery with it yesterday at about 6pm and here it is today and it is only at about 80% charge rate. Something is not right. I contacted the seller and they told me that the charger is from Samsung and it charges at 1 Ampere. It is either the charger is a knock off or my Micro-usb cable that connects into the wall charger is not the right kind.
Are there different variations of micro-usb cables that will work better? Some that allow more current to flow over them than others? My cable says that it is 28awg/2C. I remember when I had a playstation 3 I had problems with syncing the device with my playstation 3 with the USB cables I had bought. After tons of research it was the USB cables that were the issue. They didn't allow enough current to work properly with the PS3. I'm starting to wonder if I'm having the same issue with the Samsung Wall Charger. Is the 28awg wire gauge too thin?

- charger is rated 1amp but usually puts out less depending on the quality and efficiency of it. You won't get the fastest charge with a 1amp psu. Get yourself a cheap 2amp and have plenty of headroom.
- also, if voltage in your wall outlet is low (rare) that would affect psu output.
- yes super thin usb cables can be part of the cause.
- of course, if the cable is meant for PC charging, it will be wired in such a way, to not exceed 450ma (or so) whereas a usb cable or charger that is meant and wired for fast charge, will provide...for me...1150ma (Search/Research my past posts for more detailed info)
- also, most kernels, slow down the charge rate as the batter gets closer to 100% charge.
- a bad battery or custom kernel with bad code, could both affect charging speed.

Battery Charging

My Samsung GalaxyS3 will only charge via Laptop usb port, If I plug in the wall charger it dis-charges instead of charging.
I googled the problem and it seems to be unique to the S3, but did not find and reason or solution for the problem.
anyone have any idea why this has happened and what can be done to resolve the problem.
there was one suggestion that the usb plug might have dust and is not making a clean connection but that makes no sense
Have you tried different USB cables and chargers?
I had the same issue when I recently went on holiday. I took with me a non-Samsung wall charger with four USB sockets, and some oddball USB cables to charge all my devices.
My S3 was not charging over night. I discovered that the non-Samsung wall charger and the thin USB cable were not providing enough current to charge my phone.
As an experiment, I installed Ampere from Playstore on another Android phone, (it would not work on my S3), and I used it to test all 11 of my wall chargers and 5 cables and I was surprised to find some wall chargers would supply 780mA, while others only 380mA. Similarly, some USB cables would only pass 440mA where as a thicker one would pass 780mA.
The moral of the story is that the Samsung S3 is quite fussy on which wall chargers and cables it will charge from.
The best suggestion is to get a Samsung wall charger for a tablet, and the thickest USB cable you can find.
thank you

What charger for the Galaxy Tab S

Hey guys !
I just bought an Galaxy Tab S (8.4) from eBay but it came without any charger/cable.
As it is a Micro USB port, there's no real problem, I have literally tons of usb chargers available.
The problem is that most the chargers/cable I used only charged the battery at a 0.3A rate (measured with an USB voltmeter + battery app).
I know that the original charger was 5.3v 2A. I tried with some powerful 5.0v charger (3.0A/Quickcharger 3.0 compatible from Anker) but no luck so far...
Is there a specific charger/specs know to work well with this pad ?
I'm using this aukey 3.0 compatible wall charger and so far it's charging as expected
How fast does it charge ? I only get 0.3A with this charger, which charges really slow...
0.3A is 300ma i am surprised the battery charges at all at that low rate, My 10.5" draws 1700ma from my third-party chargers according to my usb monitor, I have managed to charge it as low as 1000ma from my notebooks usb port, but you need a charge only cable as a data cable will not charge at all.
John.
