I'm in the same boat. I'm on a 5.1.1 Rom but have the 5.0.2 base. I want to update the bootloader and modem but not sure how.

I'm afraid to flash anything..lol...flashed a kernal 2 days ago based on 5.0.2...that is it...Samsung is very finicky..and it ducks for us

New to rooted LG GPad-have questions

Hi folks. Long time rooter/rom user of phones and tablets. I have some questions for my V500
Since it is rooted, would this be the next step - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2641409
(Installing TWRP for a custom recovery)
Since I'm on 4.4.2 with a V50020d base, would I then focus on getting 4.4.2 base roms and flash them via that TWRP I installed?
This does seem like a really fun and snappy device. From what I can tell, it has an IR Blaster right? Are there any roms that don't work with the blaster (I see this sometimes in the Galaxy Tab roms for devices that have the IR blaster)
Once you root, the next step is installing TWRP so you can install roms.
I also have the V50020d UK version.
Stumproot which is available here worked fine for me, easiest root i have ever done. Just install apk and your done.
Installing and getting custom recovery to successfully flash a ROM is another story. I have managed to get TWRP flashed to the device and boots correctly. However it fails when i try to flash CM11 or any other ROM. After reading around I think I may have to downgrade the stock 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 in order to get TWRP to flash. I am not struggling to find the correct stock 4.2.2 kdz firmware for the v50020d device.
It's been a bit of a head scratcher! Let me know how you get on with yours.
Cracked it today. I've written a guide for all UK users who are stuck with V50020d, compiling all the info. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/help/v50020d-uk-root-twrp-flash-stock-4-4-2-t2938914
Hope it helps

I did mine with towelroot. I'll be looking to flash a custom recovery soon. I wanted to pop in here first to double check before going ahead with a recovery and a rom.
I new to LG and have 2 of these for my boys.
I have a us and uk one, i assume these will need different ways of rooting and flashing twrp etc?
I rooted one with Kingoroot no issues, but damn, getting cwm to install is a mare.
Both mine are on 4.4.2.
Looked at so many tuts, they all change due to time and i had to give up as was draining me.
Any tips on how to get cwm installed fella.
Best wishes
I've just created a tutorial for first time custom recovery installation.

Updating for Lollipop

I there people,
I have my device s-on mode but it run ICS and now i want to update to the new android version but mine isnĀ“t s-off and now i when i try to put any rom (already test with Insertcoin and Viper rom) get always some issues in wi-fi and stuff like that. Is there any way to install lollipop rom without s-off or is there a simple way to do it?
Regards
This phone never had ICS (Android 4.0), it released with KitKat (Android 4.4), is that what you mean? You have an M8, right (not another phone)?
If you do have the M8, depending which carrier/region version, most can be returned to stock ROM, stock recovery, than you can OTA to update your firmware (which will then allow current custom ROMs to work correctly). Or some variants have RUU, so you can relock the bootloader and RUU to Lollipop to update the firmware.
Hi there,
Sorry, is the Kitka version that i mean. i was using the Insertcoin 4.4 and now install the viper version of lollipop and get issues in wi-fi....

And you will encounter that issue on every single Sense Lollipop ROM until you update your firmware by one of the methods I suggested in my previous post.

Questions on how to go from VZW N4 LP to MM

Hope the title isn't confusing but I wanted to ask some questions and get some answers without blowing up hsbadr's thread on how to go from LP to MM. So here it goes.
When flashing the full firmware update coming from an already unlocked and rooted Verizon on LP to MM what happens?
Are you back to stock MM rom from Samsung or are you on a modified version of the MM firmware? In other words can I flash the full update and just stay on that base rom?
I believe that is the case and if so hsbadr says we can root and go through the process of unlocking again. What root works best and is it permanent or is it temporary? Is it really temperamental like on LP or will it stick easy enough to unlock?
My purpose in asking is I would like to do all this in phases and help others understand. If I flash the full firmware then I would like to stay on the base rom MM for awhile and when I have time I will unlock the phone.... Again. However if I can't have perm root then flashing the firmware would need to be done in one go with the whole unlocking process.
Any answers are very much appreciated! Thanks ??

Which full firmware? hsbadr's* is a hybrid Lollipop/Marshmallow version which I don't think would be a suitable daily driver. The full firmware from sammobile will give you Marshmallow as Verizon intended. Either way, your bootloader is locked. Using hsbadr's means your bootloader can be unlocked. The official version, not so much.
With the full official firmware being available, I would not advise using the update.zip method in other threads. Either flash the official firmware in ODIN or take the OTA update. Either way, you'll have a locked bootloader. Rumor has it that you can flash a Lollipop firmware and re-root, but I wasn't about to try. I could bide my time and let the developers work their magic.
* Also extending credit and thanks to ryanbg and beaups who together worked to get us an unlocked Marshmallow bootloader.

If you want root... if you think you'll want root... just bite the bullet and do it. Jasmine ROM has all of the benefits of the Verizon version of Marshmallow. If that's good enough, stay there. If you want to explore, that option will be available as well.
Yea I'm talking about hsbadr hybrid. I'm unlocked and rooted on LP using one of his roms right now. Just want sure what the hybrid version of MM meant. Thanks for the help and understanding. Makes sense now.

[SMP600] on 4.4.2 custom - want to upgrade, I'm on ND1 do I need to upgrade firmware?

The title almost says it all.
I am on a custom 4.4.2 ROM (using ND1 firmware) and want to look into upgrading to 5.1.1 or higher. Obviously rooted with TWRP recovery.
I know I'll need to upgrade my TWRP from 2.6.0.3 or whatever it is on right now to 3 or better - but I need to know if I will have to flash official stock 5.1 to upgrade to the newest firmware, if there is a newest firmware, to get the install clean with minimal errors or can I just flash a custom TW ROM and hope that upgrades the firmware, if there is new firmware, or is there a thread I can be directed to so I can read up on what I need to do to upgrade?
Or since I am already rooted with TWRP, can I just upgrade or flash my twrp to a known good version and flash a rom then be on my way?
Thanks in advance!
Dear Friend , It's all clear that if if you want to install any TW Lollipop ROMs, you need to first install a Lollipop firmware ( Using Odin ) to install a Lollipop bootloader ( do not even think of ticking the update bootloader in Odin because then you wouldn't be able to revert into KK firmware and then you can't run any KK ROM on Lollipop bootloader ) and then install a TWRP ( I recommend ShevT's one which is less glitchie and faster than the official ones because of the F2FS support !! ) and then you're free to go the way you like
... Hope it helps ... With Best Wishes - Hitman1376

New here

Hi guys
I m new here, i dont know much about this stuff.
So i have lg g3 d851 t mobile version which is previously unlocked (i dont know which tool was used). The problem is the phone lack some base app like radio and update center ect and its unstable, so i want to flash it.
Phone statue:
+ android version 4.4.2
+ rooted
+unlocked
+bloatloader i think locked
+stock recovery
My question is
Can i install costom rom without losing the unlock? If no can i install stock rom like 5.1 or even 6.0? do i need install 5.1 before 6.0 ?
Pls help
The bootloader isn't unlockable per se. You obtain a custom recovery by downgrading to an earlier android version with vulnerabilities you can exploit to obtain root access. Then you use the root access to flash a custom recovery. You can do whatever you want (whether it be flashing a custom ROM or a stock ROM through lgup), you can always re-root. You'll never lose the unlock since technically it doesn't exist.
With that said, since the phone already has root, you can flash twrp recovery using terminal or adb and flashing any ROM from there. You can also flash the latest stock ROM on a PC using LGUP or lg flashtool or in recovery using the stock ROM by mesa.
Read through the guides here and decide what exactly you want to do based on your preferences. You can always re root if you lose it in the process.
As a side note, there's no radio app for this model as there's no FM transmitter in this device.
Hope this helps.
