New to rooted LG GPad-have questions - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks. Long time rooter/rom user of phones and tablets. I have some questions for my V500
Since it is rooted, would this be the next step - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2641409
(Installing TWRP for a custom recovery)
Since I'm on 4.4.2 with a V50020d base, would I then focus on getting 4.4.2 base roms and flash them via that TWRP I installed?
This does seem like a really fun and snappy device. From what I can tell, it has an IR Blaster right? Are there any roms that don't work with the blaster (I see this sometimes in the Galaxy Tab roms for devices that have the IR blaster)

Once you root, the next step is installing TWRP so you can install roms.

I also have the V50020d UK version.
Stumproot which is available here worked fine for me, easiest root i have ever done. Just install apk and your done.
Installing and getting custom recovery to successfully flash a ROM is another story. I have managed to get TWRP flashed to the device and boots correctly. However it fails when i try to flash CM11 or any other ROM. After reading around I think I may have to downgrade the stock 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 in order to get TWRP to flash. I am not struggling to find the correct stock 4.2.2 kdz firmware for the v50020d device.
It's been a bit of a head scratcher! Let me know how you get on with yours.

Cracked it today. I've written a guide for all UK users who are stuck with V50020d, compiling all the info. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/help/v50020d-uk-root-twrp-flash-stock-4-4-2-t2938914
Hope it helps

I did mine with towelroot. I'll be looking to flash a custom recovery soon. I wanted to pop in here first to double check before going ahead with a recovery and a rom.

I new to LG and have 2 of these for my boys.
I have a us and uk one, i assume these will need different ways of rooting and flashing twrp etc?
I rooted one with Kingoroot no issues, but damn, getting cwm to install is a mare.
Both mine are on 4.4.2.
Looked at so many tuts, they all change due to time and i had to give up as was draining me.
Any tips on how to get cwm installed fella.
Best wishes

I've just created a tutorial for first time custom recovery installation.

Bottom line steps to upgrade rooted 4.4 to 4.4.2?

Okay, I am in the same boat as many others here. I am running a rooted stock 4.4 with the Elemental 2.3 kernel, along with the two dalvik/bionic hacks and naturally xposed with all sorts of modules. My recovery is TWRP 2.6.1.0., and my device is a 2013 N7 wi-fi model. I think I used Wug's toolkit to root.
I have the OTA 4.4 > 4.4.2 .zip file. What is the easiest way to go about updating to this, and then getting back root and everything else? I have seen reports of people actually flashing the OTA using TWRP, but then some people have problems. Does a person have to force an unroot first, and then go through ADB sideloading from pc/console? Is there a way to flash this with either TWRP or one of the Phil/touch recovery setups?
I know that the kernel is untouched with this OTA, and that I will have to re-root and then re-install xposed. I also know that AppOps is broken with the 4.4.2 release, hopefully something they will sort out. Does it make sense to redo the two hacks for dalvik and bionic?
Anyone have a tried and tested way to update and get back to full root as easily as possible?
I'm in the same situation too, but would installing a custom Rom with 4.2.2 on not solve it if you were happy to flash custom?

The beauty of the Nexus 7 is that you can stick with the stock rom and nowadays still get all the goodies you want with xposed and other tweaks that accomplish the same thing as most hotrod roms. I want HDMI out, which I have lost on other devices after going to a CM based build.

[Q] I Hate 4.4

Hello Everyone,
im new here but ive been on this forum before for help searching similar problems.
now the problem i have today is driving me crazy since 4pm, i tried everything and no hope.
i have Galaxy note 3 tmobile it was rooted working great but i wanted more out of my rom so i decided to go with jedi elite, but it was recommended to flash it with TWRP so i thought i could flash it over CWM. but it didnt work and i couldnt reboot in recovery anymore. no problem backed up my apps and unrooted the phone back to normal with 4.3, then i found out that 4.4 is out so i went ahead and downloaded it thinking i can root with 4.4 kitkat. well after i updated the phone i rooted and tried to use TWRP but it wouldnt work and the phone didnt wanna boot in recovery i tried CWM and no luck either.
now the phone for some reason is not rooted, it wont load in recovery mode and i tried to downgrade back to 4.3 with odin but it keeps failing.
heres what i need help with. Downgrade back to 4.3, be able to root and boot in recovery mode with TWRP...
help pleaseeee.
If you flashed the full 4.4 update your not going to be able to go back but you can have your root and recovery. Just no 4.3 roms, sorry. Easiest thing for me to tell you is there are some good tuts, if you can follow directions you can get straightened out. I was feeling generous and searched for you.
Good tut here for getting going on 4.4:

If you want twrp instead of phill's touch, the latest version is compatible:

Once you went up u here. No looking back. I disagree with you cause kit Kat is great. It has speed and great battery life. No more WiFi headaches. U need to search the threads for the how to root video and follow it. The last 10 or so people who hated kit Kat was all them doing wrong. Can't blame something when u doing it wrong. What recovery you got what root method. Where did you get Odin file from. Did md5 check out. I tell you that you my friend did something wrong. Read the threads not just the op. A few guys posted a step by step and it worked for 98% of the people. The other 2 did it wrong

Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) WIFI Only Build P600UBUCNH2

I just bought this a few days ago. The build is P600UBUCNH2. I have root access but I cannot get a custom recovery to take, I have tried several. I flash the CWM MD5 in Odin 3.09 and it flashes successfully, but it does not come up...just stock recovery with the robot on his back. **The stock recovery says
the build is P600XXUCNH3, while the device is showing build P600UBUCNH2...?
Newbie Question: Can I flash a rom with a different build that is known to accept a custom recovery? If so, which one do you recommend?
I have experience flashing my Galaxy S3 and have found the files I need for that, but I really would like to get a custom recovery working on this new device. The KNOX fuse has already been blown.
Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: I got philz_touch_6.25.7-lt03wifi.tar recovery to work...at last!!

TWRP doesn't work. I've tried 2.8.0.0, 2.6.3.3, 2.6.3.2, 2.6.3.0
philz_touch is the only thing that works for me.
I also flashed different build stock roms. Build P600XXUCNH3 is from Austrailia, but the Play Store wouldn't work. So I went back to build P600UBUCNH2 from Panama and the Play Store is fine. I'll stick with that for now until I find something better.

I flashed TWRP succesfully to a P600UBUCNH2 version. I have this 10.1 tab since release. Don't remember exactly where I found the TWRP version, I remember that I used auto root or something similar. In terms of ROMS: I haven't found any thread that explains if we can use any other stock rom for similar models (any P600 wifi, 2014 edition, etc. but with different version number). So I haven't even tried to install other rom until I find a confirmation for this.

[Q] D851 - Newbie Questions on TWRP and Lollipop.

Newbie to rooting.
I'm gonna be exact with what I have.
Stock 4.4.2 (Lollipop available but I don't wanna get stuck in TWRP with an OTA)
TWRP Installed
Rooted G3.
NO, I REPEAT NO CUSTOM ROMS OR FRAMEWORKS.
I'm afraid T Mobile will force me the Lollipop update someday, and if it does, I will always boot into TWRP because TWRP doesn't work with OTA updates.
So... Here is what I want to do... In the easiest way possible.
I want to get TWRP off my phone, unroot my phone, so I can install Official 5.0
OR.... Is there a flashable OFFICIAL Lollipop G3 Zip I can flash using TWRP?
Please be patient with me, I may very well have future questions on this thread. Thanks a lot guys.

Is that not where you should be?

Follow the instructions in this thread to flash the update in TWRP. It's what I did and I dirty flashed without doing a factory reset in birh my wife's and my phone and everything works fine.

Download the kdz and do a clean flash. After that do a factory reset then root and install twrp. You can block lg updates with titanium backup

Two options:
1) flash back to stock 4.1.2, root and install cwm via freegee
2) install gpro_recovery.apk from forums, flash recovery from there, update that dinosaur (I think it's 6.0.4.4) to something newer (Philz, which is slightly newer or latest TWRP available) and profit.
Thanks again shadi
But u mean to flash the gpro recovery using odin? (The old familiar way)?
Odin is for Samsung devices Which option confuses you?
I cant access the recovery mode so how can i flash the gprorecovery?
You download an APK called GPRO recovery, install it, and flash from there. After that, update recovery and enjoy.
To be honest with you, better option is to return back to Jellybean and start from there, possible less problems (wakelocks, deep sleep, battery drains etc.)
I did what ShadySquirrel said myself, It took a lot of looking and reading. Used the LG flash tool to go back to 4.1.2 then used I believe easy universal root where you connect the phone to the pc with charge only chosen under pc connections, then on the pc you run the bat file and it tells you what to do and roots the phone, checked root with a root checker app then used FreeGee to install cwm and twrp. So far so good. Good luck like I said it took a lot of reading.
Many thanks again for both of you...

shady i have an inquiry, do you recommend to go back to jellybean and then update the phone through the air? OTA update? or you mean to go back to JB and then start rooting and installing recovery?
as i understood from what you recommend is to go back to JB and then root and install recovery, but you mean to stay on JB??? and if not what i will get from returning back to JB, root and install recovery as im going to upgrade again to KK?

Depending on what you plan to do.
If you want to use any non-stock based ROM out there (CM, Bliss, Slim etc.) it's better to return back to stock 4.1.2, root, flash recovery (Freegee + new TWRP after that) and start flashing. This way, you have great chances to avoid random wakelocks, problems etc. , which are typical for moving from stock 4.4.2 to any other ROM.
If you want to keep using stock ROM, well, you're in a problem because freegee doesn't support Kitkat, so you'll have to root, install GPRO_recovery.apk, flash it's recovery and then try flashing recovery from freegee or try flashing new twrp. If you want to stay on stock 4.1.2, then it's the previous cycle (root, Freegee, twrp update) and that's it.
If you decide to use stock roms, DON'T install OTAs, you'll get a soft brick because of custom recovery.
