RESOLVED - Google Voice voicemail with Advanced calling on - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Has anyone been able to get Google Voice voicemail to work on VZW M9 with Verizon's advanced calling VoLTE?
It worked fine without Advanced calling VoLTE.
With advanced calling on, callers get the "Voicemail has not been set up" message.
I've been using Google Voice for a long time on several VZW devices with no problems.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Mark....its probably been so long since you setup. You need to login to your google voice number and find the buried setup menu under settings. In there you will find a number that starts off *71 you need to dial that full number to forward voicemail traffic back to google voice. When you activate volte, they snuck in basic vvm which cleared your voicemail forwarding.

Yeah Doug, already tried the *71xxxxxxxx *90xxxxxxxx *92xxxxxxx set-up again. Still no luck.
It was saying the voicemail was not set up, before.
Now it just says the call could not be completed, if I don't pick up.
Beginning to think Google voice is just not compatible with "Advanced calling".

You only need one forwarding number so now you are probably all screwed up. I have two family members i fixed after they enabled advanced calling. Trust me when i say it, advanced calling is not the problem. The fact it cleared your call forwarding voicemail is to blame. Look up your google voice forwarding setup in your google voice settings using a pc browser. Dial *73 and hit call. Then dial the *71 thats in your google voice setup and nothing else!

***EDIT*** Resolved -
With Google Voice there are 2 numbers.
One to call and check your voicemail, and the second is the number you forward missed calls to.
The first one is very easy to find, it's posted all over when you log in.
The second one, however, is buried so deep in it took forever for me to find.
Once I forwarded to the correct number, all works great.

Just to fix your Google voicemail?
Make sure when you login to get the phone number you need to dial in phone to activate google voice that you are logged into Google Voice via your PC web browser. It's in settings.
google.com/voice
click the gear in the upper right hand corner. Middle of the screen there's either "activate voicemail" or "deactivate voicemail" You can click that to toggle between the clear all forwarding (*73) and whatever number your phone needs to activate voicemail. THAT is the only number you should dial on your phone to activate it.

Setting up Google Voice as Voicemail - Help Needed

Hey everyone...so I've read that it is possible to set up Google Voice for my carrier's visual voicemail. I tried doing it by going to google.com/voice, logging in, adding my carrier's number, and activating it, but when I go to the Voice app, it says my carrier isn't set up to use Google Voicemail or something along those lines.
I'm hoping there's someone with an EVO who uses Google Voice to display voicemail for primary/carrier number. If someone knows how to do it, please tell me how you set it up! Thanks
The talk app can't do it automatically. Go to Google.com/voice. There is a spot in the settings for voicemail that tells you what to dial to setup conditional call forwarding on Sprint.

I received that message too. Like, jabba said, you just activate your number through google voice. They'll give you a number to dial into the key pad that starts with a *xxxxxxxxxxx. When you click "call" you'll hear a couple beeps then the call disconnects after 3 seconds.
Also, you might have to go into the phones voicemail settings (through the voice mail widget) and set it to google voice (instead of carrier VM).
I did this today and tested it out. Works perfectly.
Is there any way to reduce the number of rings before VM pickup when using the conditional forwarding to google voice? I had it set up for a while but it took so long to pick up that I switched it back to the sprint visual vm.
One cannot alter the number of rings
before voicemail hits on Sprint's network. This is a carrier setting.

I also read about this that some people were NOT receiving calls and it would go straight to voicemail. Has this been the case with any of you?

T-Mobile - Google Voice crashes when configuring voicemail

I'm having issues getting Google Voice running on my new phone. I had it running on a G2x just fine. Everytime I get to the stage where it syas it will configure voicemail to use Google Voice it comes back with com.android.phone has stopped.
So far as I can tell it's failing to configure voicemail, however unlike my G2x I can't find the voicemail number setting under the phone settings to see what it is set to. I don't know if this is a GSIII thing or something to do with ICS.
Anyone else run into problems configuring google voice?
Restart then try launching voice again.it went away for me. The problem I have now is that I cannot get the old voicemail icon to clear.

You just have to change the forwarding calls number to your Google Voice number. That should be all that needs to be done.

I had this problem too. You can change the forwarding numbers in the call settings or go to the Google voice web page and activite voicemail on the device.

Thanks guys. I've visited the voice web page and got the number there to input on the device. Hopefully that'll do it.
Clearing old VoiceMail Icon
Disable WiFi Calling
De-Activate Voice on Website from Desktop
Uninstall "Google Voice"
Open "Phone" - where you dial out to make calls
Press "Menu" and then "Call Settings"
Change Voicemail Setting to "Carrier"
Enter "Call Forwarding" Options
Leave the First Option Disabled
Disable the last Option, it will reset to your carrier's voicemail number
Make sure the 2-4 options all have your carrier's voicemail number.
Restart phone.
Call it from another phone and leave a voicemail.
Listen to and delete the new voicemail you just left.
Voicemail Icon cleared.
Now you should be able to setup Voice properly.
*NOTE*
Call Forwarding cannot be changed while WiFi calling is active.

It appears that T-Mobile locks down the Voicemail settings (where you can configure the direct dial number for voicemail). GV fails to change that when installing the "Google Voice" Voicemail service.
So far's I can tell on my Amaze is this is the number dialed when you hold down "1" or call "123."
T-Mo reps told me this is a third party app problem, when I told them it was Google Voice, the reps said "Call HTC, it's a hardware issue." HTC's technical support had a good laugh at that. T-Mobile's reps are full of it; they just don't like changing the number.

I have an AT&T SGS3, when I try to set up Google Voice as the default voicemail, it crashes when it tries to change the voicemail settings. I get an error through the Phone app and also through Google Voice's setup wizard. Any ideas or legit work arounds?

What happens exactly? I was having a problem where it said something to the effect of not being able to retrieve the forwarding number (I don't remember exactly). As a work-around, I ended up configuring call forwarding (to my google voice number) for when the call is not answered which worked for me.

You have to do it manually. Visit voice.google.com, settings, and click "Activate GVoice on this phone" for the popup that gives you the dialcode similar to: "*004*<insertGoogleVoiceNumberGoesHere>#"
(It'll work, but, it now takes 60 seconds to forward to voice mail, and can't change it)

I'm having the same issue. I've tried to see if there was a conflict with AT&T Messages and AT&T visual Voicemail, removed both, no progress. I will keep messing with it until I get something to work. I'll keep you posted.
Known issue... Its all over this forum if you use the search function.

I'm having the same issue, I also got it to work by manually changing the forwarding numbers but the phone still thinks "my carrier" is the voicemail service, so long pressing 1 on the dialer doesn't take me to google voice and the voicemail integration with the system dialer isn't working either. I also tried entering the *004*<insertGoogleVoiceNumberGoesHere># in the dialer, which seemed to work since there were no errors but the phone still lists "my carrier" as the voicemail service.
I called both AT&T and Samsung tech support and neither were able to "fix it". This was working fine on my cappy with CM9, so I may just move on to CM10 cause I suspect it is something with the Samsung touchwiz framework causing the issue.
I too am having the same problem, both stock rom and Ultimatum rom.
I can forward my number from the website version of Google voice from my computer, but required device voicemail configuration doesn't work. When you click configure it thinks for a second, then it says com.android.phone has crashed.
I tested the voicemail by calling myself, and it did go to my Google Voicemail and I left a message, however it never notifies me that I have a voicemail, even when I open the app, I have to actually hit refresh within the app.
When holding 1 on the keypad it goes to my AT&T voicemail, not like I'd ever use this method with Google voice being all it actually does is calls yourself, but this confirms it's not fully working.
When I go into the phone app, go to menu and click call settings, I scroll down toe voicemail service and choose Google Voice, hit yes when it asks to change to new provider, and I get an error saying "Forwarding number change failed"
After doing the forwarding it should work fine. If you have issues with it try doing it again and clearing data on Google voice.
Also see if you got visual voicemail allocated to your line. If you do, call att to revert you back to regular voicemail... it'll work then.

Easy way to do it :
1. Go to Phone and then Call Settings
2. Go to Call Forwarding and then Voice Calls
3. Change the number for every type of forward except the first one (that's all calls) to your Google Voice number
4. Go to Voice mail Settings and tap number so you can change it to GV number
Now GV will handle voice mails and hitting 1 will dial GV.

After manually editing all the call forward options and voicemail number, GV is mostly working now including long press on 1 and use of the voicemail icon on the dialer however, the one remaining issue I'm having is with the call log showing the GV bridge number instead of the person I actually called.

Did you chose an option to use GV for ALL calls?
Regarding what ID to show - check from your computer on voice.google.com settings page (Calls tab) in section Caller ID (both incoming and outgoing) - is it what you want?

You don't have to remove ATT Visual Voicemail to have Google Voice work. I had it on my old phone, and my current phone, and GV works fine (except for the fixed 60 delay) using the manual dialcode forwarding method.
I have Google Voice working on my SIII. As many of you have seen, if you try to set up Google voice via their app, you eventually get an error message.
To get around this message, simply set up Google Voice online (on your computer). It works like a charm.
^^^ what Death&Co said. You cannot do it through the phone. You need to log into your voice account online, deactivate the phone. It will tell you to type in some numbers on your phones dialer. When that is done, restartour phone and then go back to the web and activate the phone for Google voice. Again it will tell you to enter in some numbers on your dialer. Once you do that it will be setup correctly.
DO NOT USE THE APP ON YIUR PHONE TO SET UP GOOGLE VOICE.

ecapox's method worked for me. One thing though - the number I put in the call-forwarding settings on my phone is NOT my GV number, but the number the GV website shows when I log in and click activate (ie the *004*<somenumber># - which isn't my GV number).
The voicemail number - the one to designate when you long-push 1 on the phone - is the GV number.

I have Google Voice since it's inception. Works well with AT&T and Verizon.
Now I got T-Mobile, I've been having tons of issues. More often than not, my phone no longer ring when call mage to Google Voice.
Anyone see this issue? And yes, I stop Google Voice app and the Web interface with T-Mobile number.
Not only do you have to uninstall google voice back to Carrier you must go on your Google account and disconnect from your account.
Of course google doesn’t make it easy to find. I cannot remember the correct spot to change the options and the help was not very good.
If you don't change google then when anyone calls the caller gets a message that the google subscriber is not available. That is why your phone doesn't ring.
Make sure all phone settings have T-Mobile number. Sometimes google voice doesn’t clean up nicely.

go to a laptap, go to the google voice page. now look where u usually go to logout, look underneath that blue contact picture and youll see a settings button now go click that. now be carefule, now under the phones tab make sure your mobile number you want connected is selected and if its not listed then add it. once your mobile number appears up, delete the old number. make sure the new number is selected. click save. and your set now. i hope that helped you
Thanks all. Followed the instructions and so far the phone rings when someone called my Google voice number.
But now all voice mail goes to T-Mobile and SOMETIMES the same message goes to Google Voice. Aaagghh... This is so frustrating. I never had this problem with AT&T.

And what plan do you have? If you have prepaid, you can't do the call forwarding for voicemail. There is an option though. Call 611 and tell them to disable voicemail completely. They will ask you a few times if you REALLY want that, but will do it. Now Google Voice can get the voicemail.

Yes, it's already setup in Google Voice website.
I don't know what I did, but today it is working just fine. Phone ring, voicemail goes to Google Voice. Really weird. ... Don't know if something changes on T-Mo side.
I'll keep monitoring.

Google Voice Voicemail setup

has anyone been able to setup google voice to handle voicemail on their verizon LG G4? I tried setting it up but it could not configure and I poked around online and found a thread on the verizon forums where people were talking about the same issues.
You have to call and have Verizon activate it. I use it all the time with Verizon and my G4. I used it on my LG G2 also. It is not something that just works out of the box. It is a (paid?) feature.
I know because when I switched from the G2 to the G4, my Visual VM app wasn't working. I had to call Verizon and have them reactivate it before the app would start working.

You don't have to call Verizon at all. Simply dial the forwarding numbers.

That's how you set it up. After your phone rings enough times, it will swap over to your Google Voice for voicemail. In your Google Voice settings just have it set to not do anything regarding calls.

so if i have my gv number ringing on my phone now, this method will not work, as it would ring twice right?
I have Google Voice voicemail fully set up. Confirmed working in Hangouts.
Follow the instructions and make sure you expand the section specifically for Verizon subscribers. When you dial each of the three numbers, you'll get a confirmation window on your phone about call forwarding.
As an added bonus, I disabled the visual voicemail app (VVM.apk) using the debloater tool. This way, I don't have to deal with visual voicemail , the standard VZW voicemail, or OTA updates ever again.
Google Voice is working completely for me as well and has been since I received my G4. If you follow the directions that have been posted several times, you'll set it up without issue.
One additional thing I will note is that Google Voice and VoLTE (Advanced Calling) on Verizon don't always play well together. If you're experiencing problems getting Google Voice to stick as your voicemail, turn Advanced Calling off and try setting it up again.
