Hey guys!
I wanted to root my HTC One M8 and ran into a little problem doing so.
This is what I have done:
Unlock bootloader through HTC Dev
Flashing the unlock.bin
Bootloader is now unlocked
Flash TWRP
Erase cache
Boot into Recovery
However, instead of seeing the familiar TWRP screen like on my previous phones, the phone shuts down completely after shortly showing the HTC logo. This is my getvar output:

I have tried multiple versions of both TWRP and CWM, but neither do anything. It should also be noted, that when the cable is still plugged in, the orange low-battery indicator LED starts blinking, together with my screen flickering on and off (intervals of 5 seconds) with big battery charging sign on it. Could this be a battery problem? The phone boots normally into the Stock ROM.
Your device is not a HTC M8 ! Get your hardware facts right and you would have known its a HTC M8-S !
And now you know that you can stick to this thread, it has pretty much all info you need !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3114245
And please read up on what you want to do and why you are doing it ! And PLEASE make a NANDROID BACKUP before attempting anything

first of all dont ever post your IMEI on publick forum, second do as I said, just download 8.1 flash it, if it doesnt work then download 10.2 ARHD and flash it. you dont need to flash Firmware.
ALL THIS IS SAYING YOU HAVE TWRP
but my device is "S-ON" CAN I FLASH THIS ROM?

do you have TWRP? if you have TWRP yes you can.
you only need S-OFF for updating firmware.
thank u G1_enthusiast its alive again thank u again
Yes but there is one problem.....you can't perform official updates from HTC ! It's not the official rom for your phone !!!
You're not stuck in a bad situation, if you ask me. Just download a rom, which supports your device. You're good to go ! What happens if your hard disk goes blank and/or is a new one ? You just install windows back from a dvd, or whatever source. Same here. Just go to the recovery and install a stock/custom rom that SUPPORTS your device. That's it. :good:

Hi guys and gals,
New to the forum so if I'm breaking any rules let me know. Also, I'm also totally new to the android modding world, but I studied a few things on the site, which has helped tremendously. But I am at my wit's end.
I got an encrypted Verizon M8 from a buddy that is boot looping. It seems like it might have failed an OTA, because whenever I put in the password to unencrypt, a little android robot shows up and then it goes back to the main HTC boot screen to boot again.
I've tried to factory reset in the Hboot screen but it does nothing and starts a loop. The recovery screen can't mount /data (invalid arguement) and the factory reset there fails to work too.
I tried to flash 5.0.1 RUU zip from my sd card from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845, and that seems to go ok, yet I still get taken back to the encryption password screen, which then sends me to a bootloop again.
If there's any hope to save this phone please let me know. I am S-On, not rooted, bootloader says locked, and software status is official. Thanks for any help!
Here is the fastboot getvar all since that seems to be important for troubleshooting.

Hi,
I was trying to flash my HTC ONE M8s but was unsuccessful. I wasn't aware that only a certain ROM could be used.
I am not exactly sure what I did but even the recovery partition is gone. Anytime I try to go into recovery or boot the phone it just goes to the htc logo screen. I have tried to flash a new recovery (TWRP) and (CWM). Fastboot tells me it has gone across ok but when I try to boot into recovery again I just get the htc logo screen.
I have tried to use ADB but it will not pick up my device. I don't think I enabled developer mode correctly before I started fooling around with the phone.
I unlocked the bootloader but still have S-ON. I have tried using RUU file for my model id but still nothing.
Is there any tools out there that I can use to totally wipe the phone clear and start fresh without having to send it back to HTC.
The reason I tried to flash it in the first place was that my camera stopped working after the update for Marshmallow came out. I asked HTC about it and they just wanted me to send it to them.
Their support is not very good!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also if this post is not in the right place feel free to move me on, this is my first time.

This week someone gave me his HTC Phone and told me it was a HTC One M8 but it appeared to be a HTC One M8S.
The Phone wouldn't start in Andoid but only in Fastboot menu. Recoverymenu was not possible. The Phone was recognized by my laptop (my HTC). This is the info "Fastboot getvar all" gave me:

I obtained a Unlock_code.bin and used it to unlock the bootloader. Result: red text on HTC splash screen but in Fastboot menu stil "Locked" and softwarestatus "Official".
I found the firmware for an update 0PKVIMG_M8_QL_UL_M60_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.1_Radio_1.0.U20410.1_ 60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed.zip and renamed it to 0PKVIMG.zip and placed it in the root of a 16GB Samsung microSD card, inserted it in the Phone, started the Phone to fastboot en chose HBoot. The Phone checked the file and started updating. I beleive the bootimage was OK but the second part failed and the screen went black. md5 was OK. Now it won't start at all (not in Android and not in fastboot. Not even a splash screen. Battery charging led is blinking orange, even aftyer a full day.
Pressing all kind of buttoncominations don't work. Phone is now recongnized on PC as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (after installing the drivers of qualcomm.
I'm not able to flash anything anymore because there is no HTC device detected.
What can I do?
Thanks for your help.
Hey, quick question, can you not install the same roms for m8 interchangeably with m8s?
the misses has an m8s, i have an m8 with resurrection remix rom.. she kinda wants the same, would that brick her phone?
anyways, my suggestion would be to try the steps here;
help-thread-htc-one-m8s-to-stock-howto-t3190238
try to attach it to another device, uninstall the qualcomm drivers
M8s has 64 bits processor, m8 not. Wouldn't try that.
I will send my phone to HTC for repair. Phone appeared to be bought 2015, december 24. That means warranty and no charge for repair as it always had original HTC rom. No water damage or damage caused by dropping the phone.

Thanks the tip but it looks complicated and In the HTC One M8S it is not possible to pull the battery. I will send it to HTC for repair. (still under warranty)
Hello xda community, I have very little experience in programming or rooting phones, and I really need help rooting my phone which I think is the International version of the M8 (or normal I really have no clue)
I've browsed through the internet looking for tutorials and such and I stumbled upon xda, but the noob-proof software I found here didn't do the job for me. So here is what I have:
Using the All-In-One-Toolkit, I successfully managed to unlock the bootloader within a few minutes, I then proceeded to flash a recovery to the phone while in bootloader (tried both the TWRP 2.7.0.2, and the latest version of it) but then I go from bootloader: Hboot > Recovery, my phone restarts, showing me the green HTC text, and the black android font on the bottom. Now, I waited for 20 min or so, but I noticed my phone was doing nothing and just heating up. ( I also tried using the perm root command but the result was also a bootloop)
I ended up holding down the Power button for several seconds, and the m8 started up like normal again. I did my research and I believe it to be a bootloop (correct me if I'm wrong ! )
I then looked for more information on the forum, in the FAQ section it said to simply erase the cache, which I did, but the phone wouldn't enter recovery still. I got really mad
So please help me find a solution or tell me what more info you need ! I would hate to have done a reset for nothing ^^
Thanks!
Post fastboot getvar all result (delete imei & serial no.)
What you described, seems like you probably not have a M8 (as happened to few others)

Yeah.. correct. Your device is M8s not M8; they are two different device.
Here is the thread for your device - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...ral/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245
Ask there, someone will be able to point you to correct TWRP version to use.
Anything for M8 won't work on M8s.
