Preventing screen burn
What is the best way to prevent screen retention on the Note 4? I am very familiar with this kind of anomaly simply because I have been working with AV for years and this is an issue with Plasma TV's and seems to be an issue with AMOLED. I am replacing my Note 4 (new one should be here tomorrow) because of screen retention on the notification bar. Verizon warranty covers it. I know plasma TV's have methodologies to prevent this such as pixel shift and scroll bars but the Note has no such things. I use Nova launcher and I auto hide the notification bar, but the notification bar is present in all my apps that aren't full screen. My problem is with Messaging and that I am not terribly fast when it comes to it so I am in the messaging app with it displaying for quite a long time and I am thinking that is what caused it.
Other than auto hiding and dropping the brightness down all the way, what other solutions does this community have in preventing this. I don't really have a problem with calling Verizon every time this happens as they will overnight me a new phone every time, but the Note 5 came out I don't know if I will be so lucky getting an overnighted phone if one at all next time this happens.
Thank you,

Right!
I just noticed something really weird. I have 5 accounts set up for mail. All of these accounts have many mails in them.
Now, on the mail tab in Manila, when I switch between these accounts (so you see the swirling envelope animation) my screen flickers. And I do not mean just Manila, the entire screen... like the backlight is going on/off (well lower/higher, not really off).
This animation is the only place I've been able to find this issue. My other TP2 does not have this problem. Neither do the TP2's of the people I have talked to on IRC.
So there are two questions:
1) Is anybody else seeing this? (if so, are there other places you noticed?)
2) Anybody know what the problem may be?
3) WTF! (thats not a question)
I'd hate to have to RMA this baby.
I noticed flickering when playing solitaire. I initially put it down to the auto ambient backlight brightness adjustment but I turned that off as it just wasn't working. I still get the flicker in solitaire and it's noticeable when moving a card over some others.
After reading this post I checked my mail tab and yes I do get a flicker when moving between accounts. It's harder to spot because most of the touchflo screen is black. I haven't noticed it on anything else but that's probably because I'd dismissed flicker on other applications as down to the crappy auto-backlight adjustment.
To be clear, the flicker is a rapid dimming and brightning of the whole display.
Same here, didn't realized it until you mentioned it.
No big deal for me.

Had the same with the HD when the brighness was on full. Same on the TP2. On the HD issue it was put down to poor screen. Think its a common thing.
it seems to be similar to the technique Samsung is using with their LCD TV line... Dynamic Contrast. Basically it turns down backlighting to increase contrast between light and dark screens. I don't care for it on the Samsung TV's and I don't care for it on my TP2. But so far this is my only complaint, and it's a small one. I absolutely love this device (just got it today)
I have this issue. I guess its not normal otherwise your other TP2 would do it.
Ive also noticed it in google maps. When panning and it loads up the next image the entire screen gets dimmer.
Im going to send mine to HTC soon for a pink tinge on the screen. I will raise this with them.
I'm quite convinced that the effect was intended...
Try calibrating backlight with Lumos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318
It can drastically reduce the effect...
I got my Note 2 for a few weeks and just suddenly noticed this problem couple days ago (but not sure if it has been like this since the first place).
When I drag the notification bar down, many times, notification panel (that containsWIFI, GPS, SOUND etc.) doesnt slide smoothly. This happens espescially when there are many emails on the notification bar. Sometimes, it happens after I unlock the screen and drag down the notification too. Anyone got the same problem?
Me too has this sometimes not always
Whenever the CPU is doing something on background the notification panel lags.
So, this issue is normal for all of you?
Yep, same for me too. It's done it
on the stock rom along with all the custom roms I've tried. It's a minor issue really.
It might be a minor issue but it looks pretty bad on eyes. Project butter isn't as buttery as it sounds.

Hello,
Today me and a friend of mine noticed something really weird on the Nexus 5X. If you have the factory default wallpaper enabled (the one that appears on the box of the phone) and try to access the camera while the screen is locked the top of the screen starts to clutter.
In order to observe this you have to have:
1) The wallpaper set to the factory default one.
2) The phone locked.
Then you have to start dragging the camera icon at the lower right corner of the screen slowly without releasing. At some you will notice that a small portion at the top of the screen starts to clutter and display weird colors. At first I thought that this a hardware related issue (faulty screen) but I have verified that the same thing happen on other devices as well. Setting the wallpaper to any other, other than the default one seems to not cause this.
Both phones I tested this on where running Android 6.0.1 and had all the latest updates installed. I know this is something really minor and mostly unnoticeable but it would be really nice to know what could cause this.
I would never have noticed this if it weren't for this thread. It seemed to only happen with the default wallpaper as stated by the OP. Most people would never notice this because they customize the wallpaper and probably never use the camera shortcut on the lock screen.

Hi there!
I'm new to the Pixel 2 XL and am currently on NitrogenOS w/ Magisk.
I have some issues with burn in- like most others I'm noticing it on the notification bar and the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone.
Under normal use throughout the day this is hardly even noticable but when I go to play some games that are fullscreen it is pretty jarring to see my notification icons for wifi/4g/etc burned into the top and buttons at the bottom - and I usually play for a few hours at a time so I'm concerned I might see screen burn from the game at some point too
Are there any ways to "clear" the image retention? Any settings, etc I can adjust to reduce this /without/ needing to RMA the phone? I've already had it RMA'd once (both phones had it) but this is now my daily driver phone so being without it would be much less than ideal.
Thank you for your time.

Run some videos from time to time, and look into immersive mode :good:
So I've gotten Redmi Note 8t half a month ago or so.. and about the time I updated to MIUI 11 I've started experiencing this weird bug.. Any app or screen or page or icons from the home screen or buttons from apps that remain turned on for some time (literally anything longer than 15 seconds) kind of stay "etched" on my screen for some time (relatively equivalent to the time the relevant app/screen/page was turned on).
I have no idea why this is happening so any help would be massively appreciated. A photo of the problem attached.
Ps this bug appears on every darker screen, not just on home screen.

the images don't seem to be loading for me, but looking at your description it appears to be a burn-in problem.
I'd suggest you bring it to a service center to have it checked.

Thanks for your reply. Try opening them by clicking on the link and then tapping on "view full image" - it's the only way they'll load I've no idea why, today the whole xda website behaved very unresponsive for me, maybe they didn't upload properly.
Anyway I've just now googled "burn-in" (yep I'd never heard about this before) and from whar I've seen it seems pretty similar to my problem.
Although, in my case, the icons/buttons/keyboard letters that "etch" themselves into the screen after being used for some time do disappear after some time (usually dependant on the time those apps/icons/letters were shown/used on the main screen.
PS The thing is new, I've no idea how this could have happened.

I had this issue with a Moto G5, apparently it is not permanent, wich is nice, because when its permanent like in the case of amoled displays, the only real solucion is to replace the display. In this case to minimize it I downloaded a blue screen filter app and lowered the screen brightness to around 70 or less, btw this usually happens when you are watching bright stuff or when the phone is hot, also try to use dark mode whenever you can.
FOUND A SOLUTION
After tampering with many a setting, I found out that setting the colour temperature of the display in the stock settings of the phone to cool renders the burn-in almost completely invisible.

nice to see your problem has been solved!
some LCDs have screen retention when displaying certain colour temperatures.
also, seems like your attached photos are working again
