Right!
I just noticed something really weird. I have 5 accounts set up for mail. All of these accounts have many mails in them.
Now, on the mail tab in Manila, when I switch between these accounts (so you see the swirling envelope animation) my screen flickers. And I do not mean just Manila, the entire screen... like the backlight is going on/off (well lower/higher, not really off).
This animation is the only place I've been able to find this issue. My other TP2 does not have this problem. Neither do the TP2's of the people I have talked to on IRC.
So there are two questions:
1) Is anybody else seeing this? (if so, are there other places you noticed?)
2) Anybody know what the problem may be?
3) WTF! (thats not a question)
I'd hate to have to RMA this baby.
I noticed flickering when playing solitaire. I initially put it down to the auto ambient backlight brightness adjustment but I turned that off as it just wasn't working. I still get the flicker in solitaire and it's noticeable when moving a card over some others.
After reading this post I checked my mail tab and yes I do get a flicker when moving between accounts. It's harder to spot because most of the touchflo screen is black. I haven't noticed it on anything else but that's probably because I'd dismissed flicker on other applications as down to the crappy auto-backlight adjustment.
To be clear, the flicker is a rapid dimming and brightning of the whole display.
Same here, didn't realized it until you mentioned it.
No big deal for me.

Had the same with the HD when the brighness was on full. Same on the TP2. On the HD issue it was put down to poor screen. Think its a common thing.
it seems to be similar to the technique Samsung is using with their LCD TV line... Dynamic Contrast. Basically it turns down backlighting to increase contrast between light and dark screens. I don't care for it on the Samsung TV's and I don't care for it on my TP2. But so far this is my only complaint, and it's a small one. I absolutely love this device (just got it today)
I have this issue. I guess its not normal otherwise your other TP2 would do it.
Ive also noticed it in google maps. When panning and it loads up the next image the entire screen gets dimmer.
Im going to send mine to HTC soon for a pink tinge on the screen. I will raise this with them.
I'm quite convinced that the effect was intended...
Try calibrating backlight with Lumos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318
It can drastically reduce the effect...

Just got 2 new EVOs a few days back, and I noticed my backlight pulsing. It will just barely dim in what seems a constant cycle, approx every 5 seconds. It's not a lot, but when constantly looking at the screen, like during a game or something, it's quite annoying. It's not noticeable on something dark (duh) or something that is constantly distracting (movies), put playing a word game or something, it's definitely noticeable (and did I say annoying?).
I thought maybe it was my phone until the wife asked me if mine did it. D'oh, can't imagine that both of ours doing it is a fluke. So wondering if anyone else knows why it's doing that.
At first I was thinking it was a slight reminder that I had a status message or something... so cleared all those and still doing it. I've got it set on automatic light sensing and will change it to manual today to see if it still does it. Maybe the light sensor is to sensitive (wouldn't explain the steady pulsing though, would expect that to be more random). I did test them both in the same environment, lighting, etc. In light and in pitch dark, with a static image on the screen (as to not have the EVO itself causing the light sensor detect light change).
Possibly it's signalling something else, but I can't think of what (batteries were charged).
Wondered if anyone else has noticed this, and like me thought maybe it was just their phone. Again, it's not a DRASTIC change, but enough to be ... yes. . ANNOYING lol
Mine does this too. Maybe not every 5 seconds but it does do it consistently. It distracts me every once in awhile as I think I just got a text.
Post what hardware version you have. If both of you guys have 003 it may be another thing to that revisions list of errors for them to correct.
It may be the auto brightness setting. Someone mentioned it in another thread. My auto brightness is turned on.
I think it is the Auto Brightness setting. It was on mine at least. Turned it off and the pulsing went away.
Yeah, turn off the autobrightness, it was doing the same thing for me and turning it off and then adjusting to a good level, and now its fixed.
fixed? eh
I wouldn't say disabling auto brightness fixes it. I actually like the feature, and was one of the features I actually liked on my iPhone.
And yes, it is hardware version 0003. I'll look for a thread on the 0003 hardware issues, unless someone links my to it first. Thanks
So in the last few days I've noticed something strange. Anytime I have a bright image like a white screen or the sepia or white backgrounds in Kindle, the entire screen dims and brightens randomly. Its an extremely small change, but it is noticeable. I don't have content adaptive brightness or auto brightness active, so I know its not that. I tried different bright levels and get the same result. If the screen is a dark image, like dark mode on Tapatalk, I can't see any flicker whatsoever. I have tried a clean install of PA 3.57 with AK SKL 256, and its still the same. It also doesn't seem to matter if I just picked the phone up or have been using it a while.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what's happening? Should I start looking for a new phone cause mine is dying, or is this normal somehow and I just never noticed, or could it even be an app specific thing?
Thanks for any help!!
PS: I just saw it flickering minutes ago on Kindle and Chrome (imdb website which has LOTS of white) but right now typing this post on Tapatalk I don't see any flicker, and as most of you know that's a white background.

I too have noticed this when using my phone on minimum brightness. I used since the last 21 days PA ROM, always the latest and AK SKL 256. I noticed it on websites with alot white on the screen. I do have content adaptive brightness enabled, and auto brightness disabled.
And please, just keep your phone till it's dead Mabey everyone has this but no1 has ever noticed this untill just now
So it seems to be getting worse. Now pretty much as soon as I open a white screen it starts flickering and seems to be dimming darker as well. I've been using PA, what are the odds its a ROM issue? Nobody else has reported it but I think I'm gonna flash to stock and see what happens.
Also, bump.
I "think" its fixed now. I flashed back to stock, had a totally clean phone, then flashed PA back and copied over just what I needed to the sdcard and I haven't seen the flicker come back. The clean flash made the vibration much stronger on the phone so I guess it's conceivable a screen problem was fixed too. I must've had something really messed up in there.......
Hey Guys,
I'm having a really weird problem with may Tab 3 7.0. I got it about four weeks ago and everything was fine until thursday. I used it normally, listened to some music and then let it lay around for a while. When I turned it on again, it seemed like the display was messed up. It now looks like 8bit graphics. I hope you know what I mean. Really pixelated, missing colors, hard edges instead of gradients and so on. Also it looks really bad and some parts of the display are flickering even when nothing moves or is animated. The color black is also gone, it looks really greenish when it is supposed to be black.
This is sadly throughout the whole device, meaning, also in the startup screen, in recovery, DL-mode and so one. I tried to flash some new firmwares, nothing changed.
So far I guess, it has to be some software issue because sometimes when I turn on the tablet, the graphics look normal for just a second until they change back to the ****ty looks.
Does anybody of you have an idea what might have caused this, or has an idea to solve this issue? Would be really great If you could help me out!
Greetings
Mav
Hi there
first of all, I have to excuse for my (hopefully not so bad) english, I´m simply not a native speaker. But I hope you´ll all get what I´d like to express and we can communicate.
Anyway, I´ve got a problem with my Tab S4 and I´m hoping someone can help me.
I´ve noticed my S4 behaves weird in case of Display brightness/contrast. I´ve set the brightness to maximum and disabled the dynamic brightness. But when I´m watching a movie and the sensor/front facing camera gets exposed to bright daylight the image seems to get brighter or the contrast gets boosted or something like this. When I put my hand in front of the sensor to cover it from the light the image gets back to normal.
I´ve already contacted Samsung about, and theyr first reply was to disable dynamic brightness (so they did not fully read my first mail, there I explained that I´ve disabled it) and then suggested a soft reset (great euphemism for turning it off and on again) and because this didnt help either a hard reset.
I have a felling this also wont held to get rid of that problem, but will try it in the next few days when I´m not able to solve the problem. Does someone has any idea what could cause the problem? Or how to solve it?
Oh and bevore I forget it, this happend while watching a Video on Amazon Prime Video, I dont know if this also happens with other apps because I did not test it yet.
Mine does this too, its most likely a feature where when the sensor detects sunlight hitting the screen it turns the brightness up higher than you can on your own. My Note 2 had this function and someone wrote a neat little app that allowed you to use that max brightness anytime you want, obviously required root though.
So I've gotten Redmi Note 8t half a month ago or so.. and about the time I updated to MIUI 11 I've started experiencing this weird bug.. Any app or screen or page or icons from the home screen or buttons from apps that remain turned on for some time (literally anything longer than 15 seconds) kind of stay "etched" on my screen for some time (relatively equivalent to the time the relevant app/screen/page was turned on).
I have no idea why this is happening so any help would be massively appreciated. A photo of the problem attached.
Ps this bug appears on every darker screen, not just on home screen.

the images don't seem to be loading for me, but looking at your description it appears to be a burn-in problem.
I'd suggest you bring it to a service center to have it checked.

Thanks for your reply. Try opening them by clicking on the link and then tapping on "view full image" - it's the only way they'll load I've no idea why, today the whole xda website behaved very unresponsive for me, maybe they didn't upload properly.
Anyway I've just now googled "burn-in" (yep I'd never heard about this before) and from whar I've seen it seems pretty similar to my problem.
Although, in my case, the icons/buttons/keyboard letters that "etch" themselves into the screen after being used for some time do disappear after some time (usually dependant on the time those apps/icons/letters were shown/used on the main screen.
PS The thing is new, I've no idea how this could have happened.

I had this issue with a Moto G5, apparently it is not permanent, wich is nice, because when its permanent like in the case of amoled displays, the only real solucion is to replace the display. In this case to minimize it I downloaded a blue screen filter app and lowered the screen brightness to around 70 or less, btw this usually happens when you are watching bright stuff or when the phone is hot, also try to use dark mode whenever you can.
FOUND A SOLUTION
After tampering with many a setting, I found out that setting the colour temperature of the display in the stock settings of the phone to cool renders the burn-in almost completely invisible.

nice to see your problem has been solved!
some LCDs have screen retention when displaying certain colour temperatures.
also, seems like your attached photos are working again
