Need help with soft-bricked Tab S T807A model - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I may have gotten a little too overzealous and tried flashing a custom recovery (TWRP) before really researching if I had a locked bootloader first.
I'm sure I can reflash in Odin but I need the official firmware to do it.
Unfortunately nobody seems to have uploaded it anywhere.
Would anyone be able to upload it here?

have you tried this site? http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=SM-T807T

You only need the recovery.
If you can get into download mode, get someone to pull the image and then tar it up.
In fact I have the recovery from a t805, you could try that.
However seeing as these images won't be signed they may not flash.
I'm surprised odin didn't fail to flash a non signed image or did you flash it some other way?
You could also try kies/smart switch it has a firmware recovery mode.

Well I already tried flashing the T805 recovery which, unfortunately, failed.
I also tried Kies and Smart Switch; Kies kept asking to check my model name and enter it, Smart Switch crashes after entering my S/N.
I've called Samsung Support, and they told me to take it to Best Buy to reflash it.

I'm in the same boat. Flashing TWRP recovery tripped Knox on my t807a, so Best Buy wouldn't reflash it for me. Any luck for you?

I'm on Linux trying to use Heimdall rather than Odin, which isn't working for me. But you might try flashing the factory recovery.img I uploaded here.

I initially flashed TWRP with Heimdall. Since then I have been unable to use Heimdall to try flashing the stock recovery I linked. Not sure if that's a Heimdall issue, related to tripping Knox, or something else.

Not sure how you managed to flash twrp with it as it doesn't even work with the Tab S. :what:

I don't recall having to do anything special to get Heimdall to work. Downloaded and installed the latest for Ubuntu off GitHub. All I did was
Code:
sudo heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img
And as simple as that :good: bricked T807a.

Didn't you know you can't flash an unsigned bootloader, kernel or recovery on a bootloader locked device?

[Q] Bricked? Black Screen after Splash

Hey everyone. I tried rooting using Heimdall on my Mac, but apparently did something very wrong. I can still boot into download mode, but when I turn my phone on I get the initial logo, then a black screen. Any help to get my phone back up would be greatly appreciated!

If you can still get into download mode.. you're not bricked..
Give me a little more info on what you tried to flash.... as well as what Android version you were on... and if you had or were trying to get cwm recovery on the device via heimdall..
No worries... we'll get ya back up and running... just don't get flash happy and try something until myself or another member can confirm it's right..
I'm going to assume you were following a guide for rooting with heimdall... link that guide so I can look at it..

Ok, no more flashing until I hear back from you. Thanks for the reply! I'm actually not sure which version I was on. I know, big mistake.
I initially used this guide goo dot gl/LZt2l3 but I couldn't get the terminal version, so I flashed the kernel via the frontend. It appeared to work, and rebooted, but I was getting a "samsung galaxy s2 gt-i9100" boot screen and then black. So I tried flashing back to a stock kernel I found. Now it shows the right model number, but still goes black.
Thanks again for the reply. Looking forward to getting this mess I made fixed.
Will I be able to fix this with my Mac, or do I need to try to find a Windows machine to use?

You flashed the wrong model and bootloader I believe... so it messed up you're partitions...
What you want to do is Odin a one-click from rwilco's repo...

If you followed the protocol for flashing with heimdall correctly and still have issues... we might need to use Odin...
As you have flashed the wrong firmware.. I believe you will need to repartition when you flash..
Let me know... I'll be on xda.. all day, until we get you up and running...

Thanks, you're awesome. Of those two files, should I use the stock or the rooted version?
A couple of things I didn't see in the tutorial:
1) How to repartition (assuming I need to), and
2) Which files to flash. I have a lot more files than listed in the tutorial, so should I try to flash them all?

The Heimdall one click method does not seem to support the file type that I downloaded for some reason. I can use the regular Heimdall frontend app though. Then, should I just flash all the extracted files? There are 10 or so of them.

Okay, I think I have good news to report. I'm booting now...basically. It's staying on the 4G screen for a long time, but eventually boots. Well, at least the first time it did. I just tried again and it stuck on the 4G screen.
I can still get into recovery though. Should I try flashing a custom recovery using Heimdall? If so, where can I get a compatible recovery?
Progress is good! Thanks!

Did you use the rooted rom... if so.. I would try to go into recovery and wipe cache and reboot to see if it boots up... also.. is it stock recovery, I can't remember what that one click comes with...
If it's stock and we can't get it to boot... then we will have to heimdall a kernel/recovery..remember our recoveries and kernel's are tied together on this device...
If this is the case.. I think we can find you a custom recovery/kernel and heimdall it and then flash a rom from it... after you push the zip's to you're internal storage..

Ok... I would go to rwilco's repo and get a gb27 kernel that has a custom recovery and flash it with heimdall..
Even if it doesn't boot.. we can atleast push a rom zip and gapps to you're phone and the el26 kernel(safe kernel for flashing) and then flash the rom/gapps from it..
I can look and point you to the right kernel if you're not comfortable looking yourself..

Help Soft Brick and cant find files needed

It wouldnt boot past the samsung screen. I cannot get into recovery but I can get into download mode.

What recovery are you using ?
Since you can get in to recovery, did you try restoring any of your previous backups ?
Are you already on 4,3 bootloader ?
You can download thr stock 4.3 firmware from here : http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-T889&pcode=0
You will need an account on sammobile though.

How did you flash T889UVALL4 ?
Most likely your phone is on a newer(4.3) bootloader and flashing an older bootloader caused the boot loop.
I am very certain that flashing 4.3 stock image will resolve this problem.

When you are in download mode, plug the phone to PC and check if Odin is able to detect it
If not, install samsung drivers or samsung kies and try again
Then, download this firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=32162
After download, extract ZIP and don't rename the file with 'tar.md5' extension
Then try to flash it through Odin and wait...
If you flash was done correctly, phone will boot
If you get bootloop, reboot in recovery and make a wipe data/factory reset
Good luck

It is better for him to try a 4.4 from now on...

I have spent days looking, turn on goes to kies firmware screen yet when i put in the model and s/n it shuts and the new samsung app to replace kies is of no help. I can get to the download screen and odin shows it up but no ATT 10.5 Tab S Sm-T807A firmware ANYWHERE.

They dont have it for the SM-T807A

You searched for "sm-t807a"
It would better if you just explain what state the tablet is in and how it got to that state.
There is no official software for the t807a.
OK here how it goes,
The tablet was completely fine.
The original owner ( a family member) tried to root it and didnt accomplish it, somehow through his process it ended up softbricked.
I can enter he download mode for odin but no firmware for this LTE model.
When I turn it on it goes to the kies screen but kies doesnt recognize it, and when I enter the serial it buffers for 2 seconds then closes the process of kies.
Also it says device isnt supported and yes I have installed the right drivers and uninstalled kies numerous times.
The new replacement prog for Kies (forgot the name) is no help either.
Im terrified of what to do next as it does go to the odin screen just no firmware as I stated.
Any update, or could someone upload the stock firmware so i can use Odin on it.
Samsung told me ATT can flash it for free onto it so its deff a possibility however I do not have a ATT account so they cant help me.
It doesn't boot because the stock recovery has been wiped/replaced.
Thats assuming you have tried to boot recovery?
The att models are all bootloader locked.
I'm surprised a bootloader locked device even allowed an unsigned image to flash or did they use something like flashify?
The stock ota update was posted by someone here a while back. Your only chance is to pull the recovery from it and try and flash it in download mode. However odin may refuse to flash it.
If I can find it I can pull out the recovery.img and post a modified cf_autoroot which will try and flash the original recovery, that's if odin will even accept the image.
I was used with something like kingroot.

this i would highly appreciate as the firmwares not deleted just corrupted.
i have searched the whole web.
here is the link to the pulled stock sm-t807a files from a xda member

PowerfulJY, any successfull update with your SM-T807A journey?
I have the same problem as you, and Odin refuses to flash your firmware files

The images won't flash as they are raw unsigned images.
The update should contain a signed recovery image, but may still not flash with odin as the tar package you make will not be signed either and odin may refuse to flash
There may be a way though, another member managed to brick their device by flashing twrp using Heimdall, but couldn't then flash back the stock recovery with Heimdall.
If somehow the stock recovery can be forced to flash with Heimdall then there's a chance of unbricking the device.
I worked just flashed the FW part through AP did it on a friends pc all is back to new.
if you need a link for the ripped files just pm me.
also odin was used.

Unfortunately, Heimdall shows the same behaviour as Odin has.
AFAIK they are using the same protocol and seems that recovery CRC/sign check done via device internally, not via flashing tool.

Did you use command line or gui?
I used GUI, i didnt do the bootloader or choose any special clickies, I simply tried another pc with the same FW and it flashed in a hearbeast with PASS.
USB hubs are the devil, TRY EVERY USB PORT YOU HAVE
Kies sucks so does the new one.
any issues PM me and ill set you straightm any public questions ask away.
You have to download the IMG files and use the IMG to TAR app, I will provide a ZIP with all tars included but I assure you dont start ****ing around with bootloader images stick to AP.
AT&T is he devil.
The new Rockstar Whipped Strawberry OWNS, Oraneg Creme is Meh.

The gui question was for synphonica about Heimdall.
Are you saying you flashed the images with odin? Which version and which images?
This has been tried before and failed.
Also what do you mean you tried a pc with the same firmware, same firmware as what?
I'm new to rooting so be gentle, I just bought a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 sm-t807a (AT&T) with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. I want to backup the stock ROM (firmware) so I can go back just in case I bricked it when rooting or installing custom ROM. I searched the web but there are no clear instruction on how to do it for an unrooted sm-t807a. Can someone provide me with a step-by-step instruction? I can share my backup of the stock ROM afterward since there does not seem to be one on the web. Thank you in advance for your help.

You can only root with Kingroot, don't try any other method or you'll brick it nor can you install a custom kernel or recovery.
Once you have root you can pull the partition images with EFS PRO or PARTITION BACKUP.
The best way to have a back up is to catch the stock Firmware update.
This is tricky so research how to do it.
There is one backup I know of:

Fix for dm-verity verification failed update from adb is disabled?

I was trying to adb sideload marshmallow onto my at&t Note 5. I may have forgotten to run the adb in admin mode, so the device reset to Lollipop. When I tried to run again the phone gives an error when trying to put into adb sideload mode " m-verity verification failed update from adb is disabled". I tried re-flashing back to 5.1.1 via odin but with no luck. Anyone have a suggestion or a fix for this?
The phone powers on with no issues, but I'd like to put Marshmallow on the device and not wait another lifetime for at&t to send out the OTA.
Same problem but I had run as administrator enabled I got to about 15% done then I think I got a status 7 error or something like that and now I have the dm verification error

Looks like there's no fix in site...guess we will have to wait for the OTA.

I have this same issue and I keep trying to do an ODIN restore using the methods provided but it stays stuck on the NAND write start and it doesn't progress from that point. I've tried a few different MD5 files I have found. Can anyone offer any help?

how do I run Odin in Admin mode? Is it different from right clicking and run as administrator or is that it? Just tried that and still stops at NAND write

Yes. Are you putting each file in the correct place in Odin? The files all begin with the box they belong in (AP, BL, CP, CSC)
Only flash AP don't flash anything else. Let boot then reboot to recovery. Dm-verity should be back to normal. My resets all the time after I use this method.

Flashing a zip?
So, forgive me if I am *way* off. Perhaps the answer is too obvious for me to notice. But Odin doesn't permit flashing of zips. I extracted everything and put it in a tar using WinAce. Was that the right procedure?

It didn't work. DM-verity error palapalooza as usual. N910V on 5.1.1, not rooted. Thanks.
