I need your advice please - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
I'd like to buy this ZENFONE 2
But as you see , this one is for China market and the CPU is a Z3560 and not a Z3580
What do you think of this version ?
If I want to use another ROM, which could I take ?
Thank you

That is a ZE551ML Model, so you can flash ROMs marked as FHD, 551ML, and ZE551ML.

It does not depend on the CPU used ?????

Apart from the max clock speed, the 3560 and 3580 are essentially the same chip.

Just be aware you may need to change from CN rom(Chinese) to WW ROM(World Wide). Make sure you read up on this before starting...

Actually there is no good reason to switch from CN to WW if you intend to stay on stock. The CN firmware does not have the bloat of the WW version, Google apps are easily installed and battery life is better.

oops...what are these bloats ? ... how could I change to WW if I wanted to ?
Thx

All the Google and 3rd party apps listed in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3174541
These are baked into the system in the WW roms.
Some users have also reported poor battery life when moving from CN to WW.
You will also lose automatic updates.
If you do want to switch there is a thread detailing how to go about it.
If you are intending to flash custom roms then there is no need to flash WW first. Just unlock the boot loader, root and flash TWRP, then follow the instructions in the respective threads for flashing them. Remember to make a backup of of your current setup in twrp first so you can easily return to it if you run into issues.

Thanks a lot for all those explanations

How can I root the Zenfone 2?

Hey guys, I have the 550ML (which for some reason is showing as the z00AD for XDA). Is it possible to root it? I haven't rooted a phone in awhile, and wanted to know if there is a universal lollipop root or do I have to wait for something down the line.

Also, you are one of the luck few to get it so early. People around the globe are still waiting, hold on for a little while and things will start popping up here.
I am waiting with my asus zenfone2 (ze551ml).... searching over n over... I wish devs will find a way for us... best of luck..

Find the pre-rooted image yourself
What if I root my phone and did not use any custom rom, will it still update the phone? like the system and UI. thank you

Flashing the pre-rooted rom isn't a custom rom...
I have my bootloader unlocked so this may affect things too but I just reflash the last pre-rooted rom then update over OTA. Never had a bootloop problem.
So saying it is generally advised to remove root/xposed and busybox, anything that alters the system image really, before doing an OTA update..

Bought a CN Version istead of WW. Is it a big issue?

Hello everyone,
So I've purchased a CN version of The ASUS Zenfone 2, is the same as the WW version? if not, what is the difference between those two. And please tell me if I made a bad decision Hopefuly CN Version is same, if not, at least similar to the WW version. I heard that in the CN version there won't be any Google Applications installed, is that the only difference? or is there any other major differences?
I heard cn version can get 1-2 extra hours of sot? I read somewhere. To get full lte you need to flash back ww ?
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app
If you manage to get the gaps then no.
It's exactly the same with the difference that you will get about 1:30 hours more ost, don't know why but it just does, I know it from first hand I get 4 to 5 ost depending how much I will game.
The big difference is the 4G LTE bands they have. Very different.
Mine's CN. I've no issue's with it. I don't need the extra lte bands of the WW Version as they are not in use in my country anyway. The stock firmware is much less bloated than the WW version. Playstore and google play services are easily installed. Chinese apps can be uninstalled. Root and boot loader unlock are the same as WW.

One question to you corrsea! Did you use Google apps installer to install the Gapps? or did you download some type of file that contains all the applications and installed them through your SD Card? if so, please give me the link. And another thing, will they be updated automaticly?
It depends on where you will be using it and if LTE is important to you. Bottom line, the CN version does not have the majority (if any) of the LTE bands used in North America. I'm not even sure it has the bands used in Europe.

Yes I used the app installer to install Google service framework and playstore. Once installed I updated them to the latest versions. Any other Google apps I just downloaded from playstore.

No but it would be nice to see a customised Rom such as super Zen based on the CN firmware.

Z00AD is locked bootloader fully stock
Z00A It becomes when unlocked and custom rom installed.
You can now fully return back to Z00AD

To be honest:
It's Asus' crap to provide so many build.props for every single possible variant of ZenFone 2 ZE551ML and ZenFone Zoom ZX551ML. Some of them are Z00AS, Z00AD, and Z00A_1, Z00A_3, and many others, with 2.3GHz, 1.8GHz, and 1.3GHz. If you're on stock based ROM, you'll see Z00AD at the most (Z00ADB with Chinese variants), except when all build.props removed with only the main build.prop is left.

2 big core disabler tot file

Hey guys, ive succesfully went back from MM to Lolli, by using LGUP. From then I could flash a TOT file which disabled all but one core. Now my device can work, but with really ****ty performance. Please anybody can give me or make me a TOT file for H815 with the 4 little cores active I just couldnt find a way how to edit my current TOT file.
I'd be soo happy, thanks forward for your help. :highfive:
From now I can root and put back TWRP if you know a better solution for that way. All I want is completly disable big core and to stay off even after restarting the phone.
ps.: ive used search a couple of times, but i wasnt able to find a file. :crying:

H815
One more thing, I could manage to revive the motherboard, by soldering back the chip (professional made it, not me). So now its stable, not warming at all but the software drains a lot battery at standby mode. Around 60% overnight
I think its because the phone uses that single core 0/24 at 100% percent.
Can anyone help me by suggesting how to enable just the 4 little cores without the 2 big (I'm looking for a clean original, maybe debloated and non rooted solution)?
If its not possible, then how can I make it with root to disable the 2 big from booting them when i turn the device on?
Thanks forward for any suggestion! :fingers-crossed:
If you have H815, then why don't u unlock your bootloader and flash 4 cores kernel? It'll solve your problem

Titan kernel for LG Nougat but you'll need to upgrade to Nougat firmware first(flash one in TWRP, update TWRP, flash Titan 4 cores and you're good to go )

Good morning everyone,
I would like to downgrade from LineageOS to Stock firmware for my asus zenfone 2 ZE551ML?
I made some research but i am afraid there is not a clear topic about that.
I would like to downgrade to an stable stock firmware (LP or KK). With LineageOS , my battery is draining too much and i can not use my phone for a day for example.
Thanks for your futurs answers.
(Sorry for my english)

Do you want to completely wipe and go all stock? If so, the asus flash tool and the appropriate raw file is the best way to do it. If you don't mind a custom stock based rom, then I'd suggest Borets ROM. Just wipe and flash.

Thank you for your quick reply !
Yes i would like to go back to a stock firmware, a stable one with a very good battery life on the ZE551 ML model. Could you please advise me about the asus flash tool? Indeed, i remember that when i flashed the LineAgeOS , i completly changed the bootloader. I followed this topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ze...rom-official-cyanogenmod-14-1-weekly-t3545692
I wrote this message because i do not want to brick my phone and if other people want to do the same i would like to help them with this topic.
