Internal Storage Question - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I purchased a Live Demo Unit of the 8.4" Galaxy Tab S yesterday. It's SM-T700X. Now from what I should understand this is a 16GB model, but it only shows 8.4GB in internal space.
Am I missing something here?
It was already rooted so I loaded TWRP and loaded Europhoria Rom with lollipop 5.1.x . Unfortunately this hasn't changed anything, but I did notice when TWRP started the screen read E: Unknown File System: 'ext4/' Is it partitioned? I don't know how to undo this if it is.
I've attached a screenshot from disnkinfo, let me know if there's anything I need to provide.
EDIT: Unable to upload the screenshot until I post more than 10 posts.

You need to run a stock rom with the relevant pit file. Many have had the same issue with cm and aosp roms messing with the partition structure.

Fantastic! Thanks for replying. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.
Well, I'm glad I'm not going mad. Would mind telling me what a pit is? This is new to me, so I guess I'm a bit of a ignorant jerk for asking.
Found this thread. I'll follow this guide and provide an update.
Thanks Ashyx

I followed the guide you linked to. Loaded the pit file and the firmware through ODIN, performed a factory reset/wipe and hey presto. Then I rooted the device, booted into TWRP and reloaded a 5.1.x rom. All is now working great!

[Q] No SD card mounted?

I recently installed the Android 4.4.2 KitKat custom ROm "Carbon" on my HTC One X Endevarou, and after some trouble that I got fixed with the help of this forum, I got it all working. Now I have another problem though... I can't access my SD card when the phone is booted. I can access it in recovery mode and as a USB Storage in recovery mode, but when I go to for example gallery, it says "No external storage found"

have you checked if there is any fix/workaround in the rom thread, or even if anyone reports tehe issue? it's not an hardware problem for sure, as you can access it via recovery...
Try another aosp kernel. That seems to fix it.

And if you had to explain that to a noob? I Googled it, but it only returned gibberish for me.
Well like there are custom sense kernels, there are also custom aosp kernels. Check the original android dev section. You see some kernel headlines that are also for aosp. Try one it might help.

Ohh, nice. I have no idea what kernel to flash though, do I just pick any? And what version exactly? I am at a loss.
read the respective thread, search if there is an aosp version of the kernel, read if there are issues and flash one (repack if required)... test if for some days and if you are not satisfied take another one and start over

sure you can take a nandroid backup before starting, it is always the best choice and the fastest way to revert back in case of issues

Thanks a lot, the threads are conflicting a bit in info though. After flashing the kernel, do I have to extract the boot.img and flash that in fastboot? Some threads tell me to do this, some threads don't.

yeah, just like you did with the rom one...
boot.img = kernel
kernel_name.zip = kernel modules
you can avoid flashing the boot.img only if your hox is s-off and the developer put the instruction to flash the boot.img in the updater script inside the zip file... so flash it via fastboot

Firmware Update M8 Rogers

Hi, I've talked of this before. The firmware update, I tried returning to stock then attempting to update the firmware through updating the software OTA but that failed no matter what I did. I returned to stock, flashed the stock recovery, and even locked the bootloader. And finally I attempted an RUU but the RUU failed. So now I lost all my data in vain. I rooted the phone again and reflashed it to Insert coin android 4.4.4, ect.. And I currently am really tired of this. Isn't there any way to get through this? I want the new Insert Coin Lollipop but I have S-ON and cant update the firmware. Can someone please help me? It would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading this lousy comment.

I don't know anything about Insert Coin. But if you want stock lollipop from Rogers, you could restore a Nandroid backup via TWRP.
For a start, post your fastboot getvar all (without serial no. and imei no.)
Then most probably the nandroid that ikeny mentioned is the right backup.
I'd be more worried about the RUU failing - I wonder what the error code was?
If OP's M8 was Rogers branded, CID ROGER_001, then RUU from Rogers never existed in the first place. Perhaps this explains the error.

I'm actually kinda wondering, is there a method to update to lollipop without returning to stock? I don't have S-OFF so I cant update the firmware alone. All I want is to update the firmware somehow and then I'd be able to use the latest Insert Coin Lollipop Rom. Although thanks a ton for that link, I'll use it as my last resort.

Yes, and yes.
If you want future OTA, replace TWRP with the attached stock recovery as the final step.

Hmnn...Thank you very much. I appreciate it a lot. So now that I have downloaded the last link to the first post which named "Rogers_5_0_1.zip" I just have to backup all my media, apps, ect...Then I can restore the lollipop backup, root the phone, then install Insert Coin 5.1. And I'm also assuming the data being wiped is absolutely unavoidable.

Hi, I unzipped the Rogers_5_0_1.zip file and it came out a folder named "2015-02-05--12-39-33 LRX22C release-keys" and an img file named "recovery.img." Do I just copy the folder to my backup TWRP folder then ignore the img file? Sorry for being really annoying and asking a lot of question, I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right.

You don't need the img file now. That was the stock recovery, for later, if you want to replace the TWPR recovery.

I deleted stock apps, help! :(

Hello I tried rooting my device using Kingo Root, well it was rooted successfully. Now, I messed up in deleting some bloatware apps from a list I saw before making a backup . Then when I click the settings>about device, it crashes. Then when I try to factory reset, the apps I uninstalled didn't came back. Please let me know what to do, I just want to make the phone the way I got it then root it.
ps: I googled and some say flash the stock room, I'm scared to flash it because I don't know the firmware version of my phone since I can't access the About device of my phone. I'm in the Philippines btw.
pps: I don't know if it might help but, I installed Kies and the fimware was the latest and it was: PDA:NC2 / PHONE:NA3 / CSC:NC2 (AFR); I don't know how to read that, no google result so far. I'm planning to download firmware from this site: //samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9082
Please help me Thank you!

Put SuperSU in your SDcard
Just Flash this recovery with Odin
Make Sure "Auto-Reboot is not ticked Because Stock Android Restores Stock Recovery
When You get "RESET" in odin
Remove the battery from the and boot to recovery directly
And then flash SuperSU

You can use Partition Backup app. Nandroid backup will backup most of the main partition, but i prefer third party app which will show some unseen partition.
As for the memory thing, i believe @Yousef Mohamed have better knowledge, he even made a flashable zip for expanding the internal memory size.

EFS is most important "recoverable" partition
Bootloader partitions are the most important because without them you can't even boot the phone ( you can't boot to download mode , recovery mode or even the OS )
So you can't recover it

Problem after updating to Nougat. Can´t downgrade to Marshmallow

Hey guys!
So here is the thing. Today I woke up with the official nougat update (yohoo! right?) but after I updated and the phone restarted and turned on, it starts rebooting. Time after time. I tried wipe partition, wipe factory reset, I tried safe mode, nothing worked. I pick one zip file who said to be a "rom" but it was fake, now i have no OS in my phone. Just the TWRP recovery.
OK, so I downloaded the good file from sammobile about the marshmallow rom, but when I try to install it with Odin, it says "sw rev check fail device 4 binary 3". (I suppose it´s because im trying to downgrade).
Anyway, what should I do?? Greatly appreciated for any help right now the only thing I can do with my phone is play with the recovery and put it on Download mode.
Thanks again!!
Don't use SAMMOBILE, get the file from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...uide-links-files-update-root-restore-t3366862
Check the MD5 to make sure that you got a good download, then try using Odin again.

Try the latest which is QB1, but no guarantee that it will work for you. Downgrading is always tricky.
If it doesn't, don't panic. In the worst case, the Nougat TAR file will be available in a week or two at most. I'll upload it once it comes out.

Which one should I download? for ROM with init.d Support or without init.d Support? (sorry if this is a silly question)
No luck with updating PRL and Profile, it says that it can´t update because "no connection" with both but internet is clearly working and the nougat update its downloading again.. Weird.
By the way the Nougat download finished and I tried to install it but no luck. The phone still restarting so im going back to your rom!

It is not a ROM in the usually accepted sense, it is the stock image file. If you follow the thread and Root your phone and install TWRP, you won't get the Nougat OTA again. The downside is that if you later decide that you want Nougat, you'll have to manually flash it, but that sounds like a better solution for you anyway.

Flashing custom ROMs, Issues

I have been trying to get an answer for quite a while and no one has replied so I'm going to make my own thread.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9(SM-G960F) 64GB, Running 8.0 Oreo and the current build number I am on is G960FXXU2BRGA_G960FOXM2BRGA_BTU.
My issue is that I cannot flash any custom ROMs onto my phone without it getting stuck on the "S9 secured by knox" splashscreen on boot. It does not bootloop or anything it just stays on that screen.
I have heard many things about the fact that BRE5 vendor is needed to flash custom ROMs but I cannot find anything anywhere on how I get this vendor.
Can somebody please help me?
Thanks

So if I installed BRH4 that would allow me to flash ROMs? At the moment I can only assume its the build that I'm on that is stopping me from doing so

You are not giving much info. Start over. If you updated firmware, then you need to flash a ROM that is also using latest firmware. Just flashing a firmware update is not going to fix anything. Don't know what else to tell you. From your first post, you were on BRGA. I'm guessing latest firmware not compatible with your current ROM.
When my setups for whatever reason are in a really bad state, I do the following:
From TWRP recovery, I use the format tab and answer YES to the Format process. I then go back and under advance wipe, click on all the caches, data, system, and even internal storage. You can try without wiping Internal storage, but if you were coming from total stock, then I would also wipe that. Now flash a ROM and you should be fine. Not here to tout any one ROM. I have used a slew of them and again, not here to promote any single ROM as "the best".

So I'm now back on the stock firmware that I was originally on which is BRGA. Whenever I flash a rom I always format data just to be safe but I tried flashing RR and dotsOS and the BH4 rom that the other member suggested and none of them worked. I downloaded the stock firmware from sammobile it's the UK one

AOSP ROMs IMHO have issues. Use a Samsung based ROM, and generally no issues. Your choice. I do NOT push any one ROM. I currently am on TGP...The Galaxy Project you can look up in Cross Device Development.
