Stagefight-Detector-APP from Google Play Store! - Amazon Fire Phone

Hi all the Happy Fire Phone users.
I thought that all Amazon Fire Phone users would like to know that Zimperium, the company that discovered Stagefright, published a simple app that checks if the device is exposed to any of the several vulnerabilities that make it up.
Simply install it, tap “Begin Analysis,” and the app will show which vulnerability affects your phone.
Unfortunately, the app does nothing else, so it’s up to you to look up what each code means and what you can do about it...
After installing on my two Fire Phones (with Latest FireOS 4.6.3) this "Stagefight-Detector-APP" (from the Google Play Store), fortunately I always get the following message:
Congratulations!...
Your device is not affected by vulnerabilites in Stagefright!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zimperium.stagefrightdetector
So it could be true that Amazon has totally fixed, this Stagefight problem in their latest FireOS 4.6.3 for the Fire Phone!!
Curiously, none one has mentioned on the "Android Comunity" (Latest Android News, El Android Libre, etc), that Amazon has been the first company that has corrected this annoying problem!!...
But it does not surprise me, Because Apparently all these Android News Sites, Has Always mentioned Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and other Big Brands, not the Amazon Fire Phone.
I Really do not know if this APP is reliable or not, but at least works Flawlessly with the Fire Phone and also gives us a Fast Diagnosis of the "Stagefight" problem.
Edit: Today Lookout has Released a Stagefright Detector App, that it also works with the Fire Phone, and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.stagefrightdetector

Can you turn off "auto-retrieve" in the messager settings on Fire OS? I'm on CM11 now, so I can't check.
This article show how to turn off the vulnerability: https://www.avast.com/en-us/faq.php?article=AVKB230. You can still be vulnerable afterwards if you open a malicious text message.

No, you can't switch off auto retrieve with stock sms app. I installed a different sms app because of that.

[SOLVED] Anyone get Prime Music working under 8.4.3?

Update: I figured out a solution -- see message #4 below
I'd really like to get Amazon's new Prime Music service working on my 8.9" Fire HD. However, I'm currently on 8.4.3, and I don't want to upgrade to 8.4.9 since some people have reported difficulty rooting it.
Has anyone done this? I suspect that if I could just get my hands on the new version of com.amazon.mp3 for the Fire HD, I could get it to work. However, the version at the Google Play store doesn't work with the Kindle Fire.
Before I spend hours trying to get this work, I wanted to ask if anyone has already traversed this rat hole.

I've also been wondering about this. Any luck getting it to work? Have you tried downloading the update from the Amazon website and taking the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk from there and putting it on the kindle? The update has a .bin extension but it's probably just a zip. I was able to open it in 7-zip and it looks an android update.zip file.

I did something similar: I got my hands on a Tate, updated it, and then pulled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk off of it. I uninstalled the existing system app on my Jem, verified that I couldn't go into music, and then installed the new APK.
Result: it doesn't provide Prime benefits, but does allow me to access the my non-Prime music. I don't know if that's because of some other necessary component, or because the new APK includes a check to see whether the Kindle has been rooted. I know that some of Amazon's Kindle software has incorporated such checks in the past.
I figured out a solution to get it working. I should have thought of it earlier.
I uninstalled the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk system app using ES File Explorer. I then used Google Play to install the new com.amazon.mp3 APK as a user app. Somehow I had gotten it stuck in my head that it would need to be a system app to work with the rest of the Kindle software. Duh.
It seems to work perfectly. I can access Prime music just fine, and it seamlessly connects to my Amazon account. The only downside is that the app from the Play store is designed for phones and locks the app into portrait mode, whereas the native Kindle version supports landscape. But, hey, that's a small price to pay.
Amazon is clearly checking to see if the tablet is still an unmodified Kindle Fire.
I tried loading Kindle Reader on a CM-upgraded KF, with no luck. Then, I used Build-Prop Editor to change the property 'name' to Asus, and the 'model' to Nexus 7. That's all it took for Kindle Reader (and my book account) to work properly.
Try that next time something 'Amazon' doesn't work as it should.
When you install using google play does that automatically install as a user app? I'm assuming so, but the fix isn't working for me. I am using 8.1.4 however.

Yes, the Play store will only install user apps. You uninstalled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk first?
Is the app not working at all, or not giving you access to Prime Music? I wonder if enough changed from 8.1.x to 8.4.x that the services for Amazon account authentication don't work.

Yeah, the first thing I did was just update the app using google play before I even read this thread. Weird thing is it opens and acts just like it should untampered. Landscape mode, automatically logged me in and all. But as soons as I try to access the library it shuts down. So I uninstalled back to stock amazon music using google play, uninstalled that system app using ES, and then installed fresh using google play. And it does the exact same thing. Landscape mode enabled, auto sign in. Acting like an amazon app.

I'd recommend that you uninstall again, and verify that the app is really uninstalled. I was able to get my tablet to a point where I had no MP3 player installed at all, and going to the Music tab from the Kindle launcher would result in an error. If you uninstall and still see this app, then there must still be a copy of the APK installed somewhere you're not seeing it.
I wish I could help with more details, but I no longer have the stock OS installed, and am now using Cyanogenmod. Prime Instant Video was the main reason I was keeping the stock OS, and now that's available for Android generally.
Yeah, after I uninstalled the app using ES but before installing a fresh copy, hitting music resulted in an error. ..and I didn't back up the original file. Lol. Not that I had any music there anyway. But yeah, I hear you on CM. I would be using that too, but it's my wife's main tablet and she likes the kindle lending library. Now if they put that on android, there would be essentially no reason to ever use the FireOs again.

[Q] Registration issues

I've recently just fired up my AFTV after about 4 months sitting to one side. It looks as though it's been auto-updated to the new version automatically (I never put in place any of the update blocks).
I went to start Netflix, and it says it needs to be updated. I then tried to update and it said that pricing was unavailable and there is no way to install it that I can see from the built-in app store. Assuming this is some type of enhanced geo blocking on Netflix's behalf, I found another user that mentioned deregistering and re-registering the device allows the new Netflix version to download and work. However, once I de-registered, it now won't let me register with my Amazon email address and password. I've confirmed that the credentials are definitely still working fine on Amazon web and 3 different device running Kindle, so I know it's not an account problem.
Has anybody else had issues not being able to re-register their device?

Thanks for letting us know what's new in this update!
I am the owner of 2 Fire Phones (Unlocked), that currently have FireOS 4.6.3 (463001620)...
But, I have noticed that although amazon has released yesterday this Newer version 4.6.5, I can not find it to manually download, and install on my Fire Phones:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201607550*
Does anyone knows and have the download link where I can get this latest 4 6.5 update ?
That's how every update gets rolled out. First wave OTA, if nothing happens in the first ~ 48h and everybody is happy, they will publish the official download link soon after that.
A thoughtful person could have uploaded the file before installing the update, but it's not that urgent.
Does it mess with root?
I tried to update manually to 4.6.5 but I got a msg "Your system is up to date!"
What should I do to get the update?
That's what I was saying before...
That although amazon has released this Newer version several days ago, if I try to update to 4.6.5, I always get the same message:
"Your system is up to date!"*
And unfortunately I can not find where manually download this 4.6.5 file, because at the Amazon help site the only version available is still 4.6.3 !
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...eId=201607550
Does anyone have the download link where I can get this latest 4.6.5 update file ?
I'm stuck at 4.6.3 LOL.
Only new apps update from Amazon.
Anyone got the new update yet ? will it effect Google Store ?

This is the question of 2015
Unfortunately, every time I and other users of Fire Phones, we've asked to Amazon Customer Service, simply say they do not know anything about it !!
So, Amazon does not deny, but neither confirms, if there will be or not FireOS-5 for the Fire Phone...
However, since amazon has already released the FireOS-5 to their FireTV Today and also to their Newest Fire Tablets, I think and also hope that they are also going to release it to all their Fire Phones Soon !
To tell you the truth , I am pretty happy with the current OS and I would think of few things to be fixed in it
1. Quick action screen needs to have more options (Auto-rotate on/off is a must) instead of going to settings to do every time.
2. I am ok with carousel, but it would be nice to have the option to turn it on and off and to actually control my home screen a bit more.
3. Contacts, Dialer and SMS apps needs to be updated to something better as they are from the stone age.
4. Mail app should have (select all) option
5. Lock screen to have pattern option !
6. Having the ability assign a song as a ringtone
7. Built in play to (Chromecast or Apple TV) would be a plus specially for the Prime video apps
8. Give us Android underground !
9. Enhance the cloud apps ( look at Apple photos for inspiration) , the Apple photo app is almost flawless and the sync between devices is out standing.
10. Give me the ability to sync my itunes music library and playlists to my Fire Phone
I sincerely love my Fire phone (even a bit more) than what I loved my iPhone 5s, I will do my best to hang in there for 1 year and if we don't get things done then ill put it in the outdated gadgets drawer and get an iPhone 7 when its out.
I think there may be a v5 and maybe sooner than we think as two games I have called xenowerk and space marshals have updates which say fire os 5 compatibility. Make of that what you will.

SlingPlayer (Slingbox app) stopped working?

SlingPlayer stopped working on all three of my FireTVs. Two have very old firmware. One has the newer one rbox released. They are all version 1 fire TVs. Anyone else having problems?
My dad just called and said he has the same issue on two of his Fire TV's. Something going on there for sure
I found this thread on their forums: https://community.slingbox.com/message/150715
If you google "slingplayer fire tv" you will get the link to the app on Amazon, but if you click that link, it says it's invalid. I have the feeling it got pulled from their appstore! I hope this gets fixed, because I NEED that app to work.
EDIT: Here's the response from Slingbox on their twitter site: https://twitter.com/Slingbox/status/746057507462733824
I saw an update from someone in the thread that this is Amazon's fault. It makes sense since the app page is gone from the Amazon website. You can still get to it if you google it and get the app details page.
I think what's causing it to not work is some kind of license verification in the app. I think it's checking to make sure it's valid, but it's failing because it's no longer in the Amazon app store. I tried experimenting with a "patcher" to get it to work, but it still closes right after launch. Anyone have any recommendations to patch the license check? BTW, this is not a paid app. Nobody is stealing it. We can't get it to run on the hardware it's supposed to run on.
Just spoke to Amazon. The tech support team indicated they have officially dropped support for the Slingplayer app. Fortunately I purchased my M1 and Fire TV stick 29 days ago so they are both on their way back to Amazon. Very, very disappointed. Amazon used to be a great company. Now they seem to no longer give a damn about thir customers. Sorry for the bad news. First Boxee, now Amazon. I'm done with Slingbox for good after this.
This is insane. Is there anything similar to a slingbox? There's gotta be some live streaming hardware I could leverage.
New post from Slingbox on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Slingbox/status/747472537190170624
FireTV/Slingplayer: we plan to release an updated, working app for Slingplayer/FireTV tomorrow at the earliest. Thank you for your patience!
Just downloaded 3.0.9 and it works on my older OS Fire TV. Should work for them all.
EDIT: You may need to uninstall 3.0.8 from the Manage Installed Applications screen under settings. The regular uninstall doesn't get rid of the old version sometimes. I think it may be due to me attempting to sideload 3.0.8 after it was pulled from the appstore.

Registering to Amazon is broken

I know lots of people (or probably most) still using Fire Phones probably flashed a newer custom OS to it, but I am still using the last Fire OS which I kind of like. Today, without me doing anything, the system seems to have "broken." The phone became de-registered from my Amazon account, and I learned how much the system was dependent on that registration (that's kind of like registering any Echo or Kindle device, etc). Now all my GUI settings are gone (the way I arrange my > 100 apps into folders) and worse, none of the apps that I got from Amazon's app store work.
And the settings for registering my device do not allow me to register to my existing Amazon account. I get an error message when I try to do it.
The only maybe-unique situation for me is, a few months ago I changed my Amazon password. Maybe for some reason the system needed that and it no longer matched. But a new registration is blocked. So others may not notice any issue if they have been using the same Amazon account including same password, since they first set up the device years ago.
The only fix I can think of is flashing a new OS on it, but in my mind that kind of defeats the purpose of having a Fire Phone. You can have the flashed OS on many devices, but only the Fire Phone can have this weird but kind of nice OS. I mean, making use of the bizarre extra cameras and all. It is a relic of a brief moment in time when Amazon sold its own phone....
This is not my primary phone. I just liked it for reading with the Kindle and other apps, and calling, texting, checking email, twitter (using the Talon app from GP store). Which reminds me, I should mention, only Amazon Store apps are not working. The apps I got from GP and F-Droid are fine.
One thing I'm thinking of doing is disabling the Amazon App Store and installing a side-loaded version that is meant for other androids. Then maybe when I sign into that, my Amazon apps (some of which I paid for....) will work again.
Just curious if anyone else had this issue, and if there is a way to salvage Fire OS on the phone, or if I should flash (and make use of all the hard work of people who worked out how to do that, etc). I'm not tossing this phone. It is very nice hardware that should work perfectly fine for basic things.
